Great evening meal here. Excellent menu & good service. The Three Cheese Pie is very good. Definitely recommend.

Went for a birthday party with family. Food and service was excellent.

Booked a table for six on the 25th August with family to have a Sunday Lunch at 6.0pm. When we were greeted at the table we were then informed there were no Sunday roast available!!! We then had to wait there for a considerable time before someone took our order and then we were informed there were no thick cut chips available.When the meals arrived we had problems with the large fish being mainly batter and the onion rings absolutely dripping in oil !!!! No waiter staff came to enquire if our meals were satisfactory and no staff arrived to enquire if we needed any drinks. We had to go separately to the bar to get more refreshments. No staff arrived to take our desert orders and we eventually got tired of waiting and requested the bill by searching out staff in the bar area. The most appalling service ever and eating experience.

Accessibility needs improvement to many ad hoc tables and chairs making it difficult to get round to other areas within the pub, welcome table blocking on one side of bar, and a pillar on other side so it is to small for a wheelchair to get through.

Good beer selection,always seems nice and busy and will take punters as the Gardener's struggles.Food is ok,so handy to have within walking distance although not necessarily somewhere I'd go for a full night out.Bar staff tend to struggle when it gets busy

Came here for lunch a pub I used to go too a lot, we ordered food 2 x hunters chicken, the chicken tasted mushy, think this must be portioned up and sent to the pub then reheated. Complained to staff about the food, he tuck it away and came back and said well its reheated so nothing wrong with it. Well must have been if both people on same table couldn't eat it. He said well its still plated up so we can reheat it. No thank you, and he went away. Didn't come back and ask would you like anything else. Not sure if they were under pressure cos they had two funeral parties in. Will not be having food from here again, but will have a drink etc.

Love the Moss Trooper been a local of mine for years Sadly I feel the beer prices are getting too high ! A great Shame really which means we don't GO As much anymore As we use too

Great food and atmosphere at a reasonable price.

My second visit to this pub left much to be desired. Despite having the opportunity to witness a second shift change, both the baristas and waiters were miserably unfriendly, lacking any semblance of a smile and appearing visibly disgruntled to be at work. While I’m not one to harbor ill feelings, the atmosphere created by unhappy staff significantly detracted from the overall experience. In addition to the disappointing service, the food fell short of expectations. As a starter, I ordered the camembert, which was served with inexplicably small and unsuitable pieces of bread reminiscent of brown toast. Ideally, it should have been accompanied by ciabatta to complement the richness of the cheese. The portion of bread provided was so inadequate that even if it were replenished three times, it still wouldn’t have sufficed. The main course was passable but failed to excite my palate enough to warrant a return visit. Furthermore, the state of the toilets was appalling. There were smashed tiles underneath and all around the floor, indicating a need for urgent maintenance and repair. It’s a shame that the pub fails to maintain the uplifting ambiance created by cheerful and attentive staff, which is often a highlight of dining out experiences. While the food was okay, the overall lackluster experience leaves me hesitant to return anytime soon.

Dined for the first time on Sunday. Was expecting simple pub grub. However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It was delicious and a great experience.

It was just a few friends leaving work, so I went for lunch. I can't comment on the atmosphere no one was in at the time, but it was good as there were a few of us, and we had a giggle. The staff were friendly and it was nice pub food.

Ordered the chicken butter curry it was ok but for £14.95 I felt ripped off it was like a child’s portion compared to our friends meals, staff need to be more proactive we sat waiting to order a dessert but no one seemed bothered so went to the bar and asked for the bill, beans on toast when I got home, no apology manager not interested just fobbed me off. Won’t be going there again, Next time I’ll spend my money in the gardeners arms more value for money.

We had a fantastic 3 course christmas meal last night (23rd dec). The parsnip soup was one of the best soups ive ever tasted, the turkey dinner was excellent and the cheeseboard could have served all 3 of us but was only supposed to be for 1. Great quality, great portions, fabulous service, well done Moss Trouper

Ordered Lasagne, dry, massively over cooked. Garlic bread old and hard. Didnt eat it. Staff didnt think to ask why the plate was still full!!

Another "Down memory lane" pub visit with Flic. Came here a few times back in 1974 - 75 when I lived locally and maybe once about 30 years ago. A J.W. Lees pub with excellent range of their real ales. Had a pint of their autumnal bitter "Bramble". Very good. Great value pub. Beer garden and car parks. Very pleasant visit.

If I could give zero rating I would ! Honestly the worst pub food we’ve had! X2 out of a table of 7 didn’t eat as their food was so disgusting! They ordered the chicken curry after being told it was homemade! Now if that was homemade please scrap it asap as a microwave meal would do a better job! it had a vile taste to it and no curry flavour what’s so ever both got left ! The Sunday lunch came out warm not even hot! I specifically asked on ordering if the potato’s were roasted to which I was told yes they are as this was what I really wanted they came out boiled! Complained when they put the food on the table and I was told they was roasted! Laughable! They was boiled 100 percent no roast what so ever! Please invest in a new chef. Service was shocking had to keep asking for sauces from staff as we wasn’t asked upon bringing the food to the table! No one checked into see if the meals were ok! upon complaining to the oldest lady with blonde hair she couldn’t have cared less if she tried she said oh well the majority of people like it! Knowing none of the two who ordered the curry had eaten a thing! She just walked away and said she will come back to take our desert order to which we said no thank you we wouldn’t want to risk it to which she laughed and walked away! We asked for the bill to add insult to the evening the curry meals were still on the bill until I said noway are we paying for food that’s not been eaten! No apology nothing!! 100 Percent wouldn’t waste a penny in there again wouldn’t recommend will not be returning!

Poor management Manger is not customer friendly

Worst facility and food I'v ever seen in UK. Lady manager who doesn't know how to speak to a customer! Manager should always be helpful not like her who was arrogant and doesn't even know how to treat properly with customers! I'm afraid she might also treat with rude behaviour with their college's. Please take her out of her position or else kick her out from this job.

We went for my future daughter in laws afternoon tea hen party. Food was fabulous and staff were very pleasant and helpful.Thank you.

Having moved to the area two years ago I've had a chance to check out several of the local pubs and eateries. I keep coming back to Moss Trooper: the food is good (not just microwave Costco fare); the staff is good (always greeted, always helpful at table), and the decor / atmosphere is much more pleasant than some of the places that insist on having boom-box DJs and super-loud music. If you're looking for a place where you can relax with friends over good food and reasonably priced drinks - where no one will try to hustle you out quickly, but let you linger - then I recommend Moss Trooper. I will definitely be back. Often. ;-)

The barmaid/waitress was very polite and helpful. Assisted to ensure we had what we needed for a lady with us who is disabled wheelchair user

My meal was the prawn cocktail starter followed by butter chicken curry. The prawn cocktail contained approximately 12 very bland frozen prawns half a slice of cucumber, apiece of tomato, and lettuce leaf that tasted like a cabbge leaf, the best being the savoury sauce which was all served in a 10 or 12 0z ice cream glass. The butter chicken curry was in the same vein but slightly better. The chicken was again frozen and very bland. The curry sauce was more like a soup than a sauce, the pompadom was very small and turned to rubber. The rice was cooked well and the best part of the meal, I'm sorry to say the whole experience and food was underwhelming

Never had such genuinely horrible service in a pub/restaurant. Went in on Tuesday night for a drink, the service I received from a brunette woman in a blue dress (who I’m actually assuming was the manager or team leader etc.) was so unnecessarily rude and standoffish. If you are not happy in your job, get a new one and don’t take it out on customers who are being nice and are giving you their money. Disgusting. I hope things get better for the staff member, as she clearly has some deep deep issues.

Ordered tandoori sisler the chicken was just plain chicken with a few spices on it absolutely nothing like tandoori chicken.this was served with a couple of pieces of pepper and onion and a large plate with a small portion of rice on it accompanied by a tiny jug of what was supposed to be butter curry sauce actually just tasted like water because it was so watered down this "meal" cost around £16 extremely poor value for money. Will not be eating in this place again

Brilliant pub, great staff, lovely food. Enjoyed a family buffet for our sons 21st recently, pub catered for 30 guests and we cannot praise the Moss Trooper enough.

The food was just about OK. We went in on a big birthday party. The mixed grill, the chicken was so dry and the steak was tough. My partners lasagne just lacked any tase whatsoever and was really bland. The Sunday roast beef was slightly on the tough side. That put aside there was a nice atmosphere in the pub and the beer was excellent and the staff were so good, nice and friendly. I would certainly return for drinks but not food.

We met up for a family get together. We had a quiet table and the staff were very nice. They let us take our time ordering and served us efficiently. The food was ok for the price. My lasagne was a little lacking in flavour. The steak pie was a bit dry but the chips were great 👍 The beer was good real ale and there was plenty of choice. Not the Ritz but very nice all round. We'd go there again.

Based on Xmas Day meal which obviously isn't the norm. I was talked into doing Xmas Day not done before. There was 12 or 14 people, i didn't organise. Preconception ,for anywhere, was food would be just OK, staff a bit begrudged working bank holiday. But no. Staff were happy friendly and tolerant of kids. Food was good and filling. Best starter was soup. I had ham hock terrine. Best pud was brownie. I had cheesecake something. Ok minor some minor requests not fulfilled, like can we have mustard. But it was packed. Many dining. Many in bar. Kids got something from Santa sack, guess it was pre ordered. After eights and mince pies. OK Xmas day is never going to be inexpensive but Moss Trooper did a good job. I would recommend giving it a go for a normal day. I,m not that near, but would consider for a meal meeting up with friends

I went to the Moss Trooper last Tuesday. I ordered the brewery tower burger and along with a delicious meal I got a waitress (fearne) who went above and beyond she was so welcoming and made my meal truly delightful! I I can’t wait to come back!

For a chain pub the Trooper strikes a good balance. Good selection of food and beer plus friendly staff. Loads of parking and opposite a park so great for families.

Go here often but probably due to being local. The food is good but service varies. Some things bit overpriced for 'pub grub'. Had the Sunday roast last week. Nice enough but ridiculous wait for food.

Met some family for a meal here nice selection of drinks available very homely feel to the place as the fire was lit. Spacious table which was great. Browsing the menu, maybe it's just me but there used to be alot more to choose from maybe it's a sign of the times I don't know. I ordered the Lasagne, which when it first came out thought was a bit of a stingey portion as it must have come from a bigger one. Saying that though it was delicious not as good as my husband's though . Now unfortunately as the waitress brought out my husband's meal she spilt it all over the table in front of us and gravy went everywhere. He got his meal replaced quickly and apologies were accepted. He enjoyed the Chicken and Mushroom Pie. Dessert was amazing the Biscoff cakes. Would come back again

A lovely looking place with friendly staff my only complaint would be that the Sunday roast comes with cold meat which really spoils the meal even with the bottomless gravy. The mash is exquisite but comes with quite a small serving and the roast potatoes are drier than the Sahara. I regret not getting a burger! Definitely will visit again
