Moshan Island Grill in Swindon

Popped into the Moshan Island grill with my family on Thursday as I had heard wonderful things things about it from both my friends and customers. I was interested to find out just what they were all ranting and raving about... We were greeted warmly...

Our first time of being able to finally order a delivery from here, after 5 months of dying to try!!! Unfortunately only have sundays off occasionally and they are shut for delivery then so we’ve never made it yet, however food/taste wise I wasn’t disappointed...

Absolutely fantastic food and the service was first class. A really great friendly restaurant with a fabulous menu and amazing Caribbean flavours. Thoroughly recommend it and would give more than five stars if I could.

Thank you Moshan for a superb takeaway during lockdown. The meal arrived piping hot (to North Swindon so well done!) And it was so yummy we ordered again the weekend after!! This was our first experience of Moshan and we can not wait to visit...

Ordered a takeaway on 18th April, Jerk Chicken with a side of Mac N Cheese, very good meal, tasted great and a good portion. Would definitely order again.

Amazing food, all freshly cooked! The staff were superb, so hospitable! The cocktails were incredible! This restaurant is a pure gem, can’t wait to revisit! My family and I would totally recommend coming , for a real Caribbean experience! Also the desserts were to die...

Finally got round to arranging a date night for myself and my husband, we have been wanting to book the restaurant for quite some time! The food, in short, was delicious! My husband had the goat curry which he LOVED, I had the macaroni cheese...

Back again to Moshan but in its new location above its takeaway shop. The menu had a few new items and all the food was just as tasty as ever. The curried goat is legendary. Great place, great service and excellent value.

I’d give it 3.5 stars if I could! It’s good to see this has re-opened with the same menu. The service is, as before, ok, and there was a steady stream of customers on the night we visited. The pork belly starter was excellent but...

By far the best food in Swindon! Great service, great restaurant and atmosphere and most importantly the most tasty food around. Very varied menu with options for everyone, spoilt for choice! You will not be disappointed!!!!!

Lovely atmosphere lovely friendly staff and food spot on as usual, was given a game of connect 4 to enjoy with our cocktails whilst out food was prepared!

I have been to this restaurant many of times - each time you get a warm, friendly welcome from the staff who always enjoy having a chat! The food is on point from portions size to price! Always left a very satisfied customer! You must check this place out! Keep up the good work Moshan!

Tried the chicken jerk and Trinidad roti. Both were full of flavour, tasted fresh and delicious. Would recommend and will be visiting again.

By no means posh or pretentious this place consistently serves good food in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

Having tried and loved the takeaway service thought we would try the more extensive menu in the restaurant. The food was fantastic . we both had different starters and mains and all four dishes were superb. Belly pork with honey was heaven for me and my rum gravy steak was also a taste sensation. The good lady wife enjoyed the codfish patties and her main of Mac n cheese caribbean style. The waitress was excellent and our only regret was we forgot to leave a tip as we had leave in a bit of a hurry for the babysitter. So sorry if you read this as you really deserved something for the smile and service. we will make sure next visit. As visit again we surely will.

Visited a week before Christmas, fairly quiet, midweek day, just us and a party of work colleagues on their Xmas do. I had the pork for starters and the fish curry with coconut rice for main, had heard great things about the dumplings and so ordered as a side dish, not disappointed as they were amazing and the highlight of the dinner. Rice and fish also good, washed down with a jug of the rum punch which did pack a punch. Would recommend and visit again

Were very accommodating in fitting us in (4 adults and a child) for a last minute Saturday booking.Have been a couple of times, but not in quite a while and happy to say it’s still great.My son was looked after and made a fuss of straight away and the service was fast and friendly. Food was delicious with us having jerk chicken, mac and cheese and the jerk lamb.Look forward to going again

Loved this place. Service was excellent, food was delicious. We had starters and frankly, we did not leave enough room for our main course! Starters were really tasty especially the Jamaican patties - we tried the lamb and the saltfish. Both were really tasty. We also tried Plantain which again, was delicious.For mains we had Jerk chicken and the only tiny little wobble to our evening was that we wanted to try the Caribbean curry and the chef hadn't made it yet. We get that the foods needs to be as fresh as possible but we were a little disappointed. However the Jerk chicken was amazing and so were the jugs of Rum punch!We liked the informality of this restaurant (and the music) and will definitely go back. It's proximity to the Gin bar was definitely an added bonus.

Booked a table for 9 people. A family member from Australia ordered steak - his words “cooked to perfection and tasted delicious” - every plate went back to the kitchen practically licked clean! Portion sizes very generous and service was excellent. Superb! We’ll be back!!!!

The service, interior and price was very good. This was my first visit, my two friend fourth, they love it.For me it was a disappointment I was expecting more authentic flavours, I had jerk chicken, I will try it again, and choose something different. Had we really enjoyed it, we were going to book for New Years Eve, being early visitors due to dog commitments who suffer the fireworks.I said we should go back to Fabio's, if we can still book.My next visit will be the Himalayan Restaurant in Devizes Road, might try a sneaky takeaway first though.

I was always a bit unsure about eating here. The colourful outset of the building made me think it was 'cheap eats'. However shouldn't have judged. Service was excellent and so was the food. To the point planning to just have one dish turned into a 3 course meal. Highly recommend. Will be coming back to try other things on the menu!

I come here alot due to work commitments , and the food never disappointing .I always get the lamb , which is very tasty , excellent gravy and sweet mash potato.My boyfriend got the mixed meat main and it was also great.Portion sizes are very big so make sure you come with an empty stomach, and try to leave room for the white chocolate cheesecake as its delicious.Owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming, and accommodating.

Me and my family had a wonderful evening. We were so welcomed by all the staff.Our waitress (lady with red hair) was so friendly and helped my children choose their drinks amongst other things, but nothing was ever too much.The food was out of this world. So much flavour we had a starters, main course and a dessert and polished off the lot!Special mention about the lamb patties for starter, Goat Curry and authentic Caribbean rice (sorry I forgot the name - has spinach in it) then their cake of the day which was malteaser tart! This is one restaurant not to miss if you live in or are visiting Swindon. The starters, pork belly with honey and the chicken skewers were fantastic, very tasty and just the right amount! The mains, Goat Curry and Fish Curry probably the nicest we have ever tasted and plentiful not to mention the lovely dumplings! The drinks are great and the prices are realistic, We can recommend the punch and the Cubanisto beer!The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere was lively, the staff were brilliant, friendly, chatty with great sense of humour and made the experience even better, as the drinks were never low and the service was fantastic. We will definitely be back to enjoy the food and experience again!

This was our second visit to Misham. The first time impressed us so much we agreed to go again before we stopped living in Swindon. Our second visit was every bit as pleasing as the first. The vegetarian options are minimal but exquisite in flavour and presentation. However, the fish curry is leagues beyond anything I’m able to create. I highly recommend a visit. Oh yeah forgot to mention the sounds (music)! Great, great tunes

I originally booked for 17 and pre-ordered. Two more people turned up for the leaving do. The staff were absolutely brilliant and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were all comfortable.

I visited while in the area on a course. I saw this place on google maps and liked the look of it. I turned up and the accommodated me. I ordered a mixed grill of beef & lamb steak and jerk chicken. The food was absolutely delicious and the lady serving me was very kind and polite. There was so much food I had to pause a while so I could finish it all. I would highly recommend you visit if you are in the area. Top quality service.

Went with some friends and had the pattie for starter then the chicken curry for main with coconut rice. Both were delicious, the cocktails are great too and so was the service too. We will be back and would recommended it here.

Another amazing evening at this fantastic restaurant!! The food is always delicious, and the staff are so friendly and attentive. This time I had the fish curry with calaloo rice and my friend had the jerk steak, both were cooked to perfection! I would highly recommend trying both dishes and look forward to my next visit!

Jerk chicken with a side of dumplings. Chicken was excellent in a lovely marinade. The dumplings are perfect. So tasty. I had a bottle of cubanisto too. Not many places sell it so I was very happy. The waitress was very pleasant too and had a laugh with us.

I booked a table for 1930. We had driven from Gloucester and arrived 30 minutes early and were pleasantly surprised to be given a table almost immediately.

I had to try this restaurant during my week in Swindon on a business trip. I had lived in Jamaica many decades ago and I wanted to have that carribean flavor again. The only other time I had Jamaican dishes was, of all places, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Love the food and fun vibe in this restaurant. The festivals (Caribbean dumplings) are amazing, I could literally eat them for breakfast lunch and dinner. Definitely one of Swindon’s best.

I have visited several times since my last review, and as I feared in my last review it has become a victim of its own success and lost its way.

Very disappointing after a previous great visit. Family birthday meal, six of us looking forward to a nice evening, most of the food was good, but one of our party ordered a vegetable curry, which consisted of two small pieces of Yam and four large lumps of Potato, and that was supposed to be a Vegetable Curry no carrot, no onion, no beans, in fact it was a Potato Curry, terrible. When this was pointed out the waitress said they were short of vegetables, strange for a restaurant. Her attitude left a lot to be desired, very condescending and patronising, she is in need of an emergency course in public relations. The meal was exchanged and not charged for but the Birthday meal was spoilt by the attitude of this one employee. Will not be visiting the Moshen Island again.

We went to Moshan on recomendation of Swindon born friend of mine. My friend and I are not from area but mostly have experienced friendly service and kind receptions in Swindon while we have been here. We walked into Moshan, I immediately felt an atmosphere when greeted by waitress (with red hair). I said nothing to my friend, and after 10 minute deliberation we ordered both starters and mains. Our drinks arrived, my friends was wrong as was supposed to be normal coke and was diet. We waited.. and waited. 30 minutes later my friend said 'shall I ask where our starters are?'. When we caught waitress eye she asked. She said 'they're on their way' - no apology or updates before this. We were very confused as we are both friendly people we couldn't understand why it was like this. After 43ish minutes I said, why don't we go? We got up to leave, paid for drinks by leaving money on table. The waitress looked blankly at us, and still didn't apologise. So my friend said we are going as it's now over 40 minutes. I hasten to add the restaurant wasn't busy, around 8 people in, and 3 more arrived and my friend noticed they get starters and mains before us, so also concluded there was a problem. If waitress had given us updates of lateness, or apologised for the nearly 50 minute delay (with still no food on horizon) and we hadn't seen others after us being fed, we would have happily stayed. We didn't even redress the coke issue so not to make a fuss. What a shame, about a meal I was looking forward to.

We have visited Moshan many times since it opened. On a few of these occasions we had found 1 waitress to be rude and unfriendly .

We arrived early so was very quiet. The service was faultless, the staff very helpful. The menu is quite small but this just makes sure that what the do they do well. The food was excellent with just the right amount of heat, all too often I have had a Caribbean meal which is too hot to eat. We can highly recommend Moshan Island Grill for a good quality casual Caribbean meal at a decent price.

We were recommended this restaurant by a local taxi driver and it didn't disappoint - the mixed grill was excellent. Good service and lively atmosphere.

Me and my partner visited here last week for the first time and had a wonderful evening.

We got married in St Lucia 17 years ago and seemed fitting to go to a Caribbean restaurant to celebrate. When we arrived it was quiet with only another couple but did get busier by the time we left at 8pm, but not noisy. The service was friendly and helpful and it felt very homely and relaxed throughout. Cannot fault the food, we had 3 courses and enjoyed every mouthful (my wife had a steak and l had the chefs special - jerk chicken, macaroni and garlic bread main) and for desert we had lemon sponge cake and chocolate cheesecake, lovely. Very reasonably priced too, recommended and don’t think you would be disappointed in a visit.

I go here all the time with my mates, the fried chicken on the lunch menu is the best🍗 and great value for money . Staff are friendly and great atmosphere.

We arrived early for our table, Greeted by a friendly waitress who told us we could have our table early if we wanted. I was recommended the Havana beach cocktails, they were delicious. The waitress explained the menu and recommended the goat! I opted for this, which I was so pleased about because it was by far the best curry I’ve ever had! Don’t be put off the fact that it is goat- I would highly recommend it! Meat falling off the bone! My partner had the Jerk chicken and the flavours were delicious too. I would definitely come back! Myself and my partner visited Moshan Island Grill on a Saturday night, the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming and the back ground music was a nice added touch. With it being a Saturday night it was busy but the staff were attentive with out being to pushy.

Came with some colleagues from work. The starters were good all round, the jerk belly pork was the favourite across the board although the Stamp & Go, cod fritters were tasty too.

What wonderful food. The goat curry is outstanding as is the Chilli fish stew (chef's special). Fish curry... Also excellent.

Had a very pleasant meal here with my wife. We were greeted and seated immediately and provided with menus. My wife was interested in the specials and on the recommendation of (I think the owner) decided to try the spiced soup which she found delicious. I had an enjoyable trinidad roti. For mains I chose the jerk chicken my wife the grilled lamb. I found the jerk chicken very tasty but not quite spicy enough for my tastes. Along with chips and rice and peas all very enjoyable. My wife really liked her zinfandel and I enjoyed the red stripe. Too full for desert but a very nice evening with good food.

After reading raving reviews on here, we decided to have a girls night out to this place. It was a usual Friday night and the restaurant was full. I had high expectation of the food and recommended to friends some of the mentioned dishes such as goat curry (small portion and more bones than meat) and fish curry. While the flavour was okay if not a tad salty, the portion size was small. If we girls found the portion size being small, I am not sure how other male customers would be satisfied. It would seem that really depended on what you order as some seem bigger than others. We tried a number of starters to share and they were delicious. Overall, a bit disappointed and not sure if this was just a one off or just that my expectation was set too high after reading others raving reviews? Perhaps it is a good place if you are out to have a good time drinking and talking but for a foodie like me, a disappointment sadly.

How anyone could enjoy this restaurant is beyond me! The food was definitely mediocre & way too salty! The wine choice, if you can call it a choice, is appalling.

I wasn't keen on the look of the place inside or out but I have no hesitation in recommending the food. The 'look' has grown on me and I enjoy the feel of the place and the great food.

My husband and I have been meaning to eat here for sometime and we weren't disappointed. The food was lovely, we both had belly pork to start which was crispy and tasty. My husband had curry goat with rice and peas for main which he enjoyed and I had brown stew chicken with sweet potato mash, although the chicken dish wasn't spicy it was flavourful and the chicken was falling off the bones. My husband had the bun and cheese for pudding which was an interesting combination but not for me, I had a Pina Colada as was too full for pudding and it was the best one I have ever had. The staff was also all very friendly and attentive. It may have taken us a while to get here but we will be back.

Very good and efficient service. All dishes were judged as very good and authentically tasty in the Caribbean style. Very nice ambience and good choice of beer and wine. Not first time and never been disappointed.

I'd booked a table for 11 for my partner's birthday. Great food - tapas menu was fab - good service, loved the Cuban theme (especially the live band). Cocktails were excellent, only disappointment was there was no room in the upstairs bar for us to continue after we'd finished eating. Can definitely recommend. Thanks for a great night!

Don't let it pass. This page is really good. Atmosphere is relaxed even when it's busy. Staff are nice and food are cooked nicely.

Lovely meal for a large group of 12. Excellent staff were very helpful giving advice on the different dishes. We ordered all the starters so we could all taste them. Good decor gives a real dining experience. Would recommend to get away from the same old dining experience.

Service was excellent they couldn't be more helpful and prompt, this really made our visit worth it, food was ok - tasty.I love a bit of back ground music but it was too loud, we were sat not to far from the speaker, plus with a busy restaurant we couldn't hear each other talking across the table there was 6 of us. So felt like we were competing for conversation against other tables. But I could have mentioned this to them on the night I'm sure they would have turned it down. This is a great example of good independent restaurant in swindon, please keep supporting them, they are a lovely bunch!

This is the most friendly restaurant in Swindon. The food is consistently good. The service is great. Red Stripe at a very good price. This seems to be a family run place but the serving staff always seem to be changing. Toilet is an odd arrangement like a poor DIY project. The vibe is mainstream reggae music (lovers rock but no dub). Cool and attentive staff and a straightforward menu that works.

Went to this restaurant this evening having read good reviews on their website and because my son wanted to give it a try.I don't understand the good reviews at all, as it was very average food and extortionately expensive. My starter of Belly Pork was ridiculous. There was hardly any meat at all and a small dish of honey in the middle with a minute amount of salad and coleslaw which cost £5.95, probably the worst starter I have ever experienced. The goat Curry was averagely ok, but by the time you had any kind of side with it, this also cost more than it was worth at over £10 for an extremely average dish which needed more cooking so that the meat (which I think was mutton) would fall off the bone.My 2 eldest sons had the Moshan mixed grill which they both thought was ok, but definitely not worth £21 each. The meats were reasonably well flavoured although the chicken was dry from being over cooked and it was just a pile of meat with some chips on the side and no sauce or dips etc,which it was crying out for.For anyone that knows their food, it is definitely not worth visiting unless you want to throw your money away. Don't bother.

I booked about 4 weeks ago for my birthday meal. When I phoned today to check the booking, they claimed to have no record. I now have 2 days to find a restaurant for 15 people on a Saturday night!!! Shocking.

My mum and I went to Moshan on Thursday night without a booking. The restaurant is lovely with a really nice atmosphere. On recommendation we had a jug of rum lunch which was delicious, definitely a new favourite! We ordered the Trinidad roti and belly pork to start and both were amazing, all the flavours were great! We shared the Caribbean chicken curry with coconut rice for our main, the portion was huge - we didn't even finish it and we definitely tried as it's the nicest curry I've had in any restaurant, I'm sometimes not keen on ordering chicken when I'm out as it can be tough/dry but the chicken in this curry was brilliant - it was cooked to perfection. The staff were all lovely and helpful, I couldn't recommend Moshan Island Grill enough!! We will definitely be going back!
