Lovely friendly staff and great atmosphere. Went in for coffee, which was lovely and saw so much good food coming out of the kitchen, decided to stay for lunch. I had the Italian Club Sandwich on granary bread and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Well worth a visit.

I had the Dulverton rarebit - really tasty and highly recommended. I hadn’t planned on going here, but stumbled across it after finding my intended cafe was shut. Despite the service and kitchen being run by one person due to unexpected staff shortage, I was served very quickly and the food was great.

Went for breakfast. Fantastic. Plenty of choice and very well presented. Wanted for nothing. The staff (who were quite young) were brilliant and could not have been more helpful and friendly. We forgot some pills and one of the young staff members chased us down the street. Very kind. Overall a brilliant experience and very good value for money. We will be back!

I wanted to treat family members to 'take away' Mortimers cakes. I paid £16.00 for 4 slices. All packages were closed and were kept perfectly still for short journey. On opening at home, 3 slices were perfect, as expected, but the 4th looked as if it had been taken out of the café's rubbish bin. All broken up and on comparison with the other slices was only about 1/2 a piece anyway! No wonder the girl had taken everything out the back to prepare out of sight.

Gone back to mortimers from Mad Hatters and absolutely shocking. Half of the jacket potato we had was hard. As for the puddings, one was inedible. Told the staff and they weren’t bothered. Was still charged for it and at £5 felt totally ripped off. The other pudding was charged £1 for a dollop of squirty cream. Waited over half an hour for someone to collect our plates and order pudding, when no one came I went to counter to order. Had to get up twice to let people in/out of table behind us, was so squashed in. We are locals and so disappointed it’s no longer Mad Hatters. Won’t be going again and certainly won’t recommend. P.S the only positive was the cappuccino was nice

What a little gem of a café! Service is excellent, friendly and personal. Dog-friendly. The burger is the best I have ever had, using local Exmoor-raised Dexter beef, with blue cheese & mushrooms. The Welsh-rarebit, cakes and cream teas are also superb and veggies are well-catered for from that respect: We’d eat here every day if we could.

Visited Dulverton on a Sunday and absolutely delighted this cafe was open. Had a warm welcome from the young lady serving. The menu is really varied with lots of choice and a great specials board. I had the soup and my husband had the South West rarebit. We both really enjoyed our meals and the staff both were very welcoming and professional. Definitely would return again as want to try other dishes on the menu! Thank you 😊

Confusing rules re entry/queuing and too many chairs and tables in the space - inside and out. The ice cream window (crammed in between tables) also made conversation a bit difficult and the queue for this was right next to the pavement tables. The staff were friendly and the coffees (caf and decaf), ice cream and chocolate cake (gf) were excellent. Normal prices. Recommend but it is all a bit squished!

What a pretty village is Dulverton - one of the prettiest I've ever seen - and the jewel in Dulverton's crown is Mortimer's at 13 High Street (a very lucky number indeed)! We were in Seventh Heaven sitting in the gorgeous cafe, surrounded by beautiful things. The owners are very friendly without being pushy! We sat there for ages just admiring everything. The tea and coffee were just right, so refreshing! There was a vast array of home-made cakes on display, too. Inside and outside seating available. Highly recommended to all visitors to Dulverton! My friend and I visited this place on a Sunday bank holiday, when all the shops were shut! We decided to have a lunch and went into this place. There was not a table available immediately as they were printing a load of menus. We sat at a table outside until they finished printing the menus. The table was then made available to us. The food was good and tasty, and the service was very good. My only critique was that the place could have done with a thorough clean. They did have hand sanitizer available. The seemed a bit disorganized. I would suggest they print a few menus and laminate them. Then just print of a contact details form for people to fill in. This would save a fortune in paper and time. As you would get 5 to 6 contact sheets per page. We would ho back if it was a bit cleaner.

Just pleased that it's reopened and it still has the same friendly atmosphere as before. We usually use another cafe in Dulverton for lunch on our monthly trip to Exmoor, but yesterday it was full right up so we decided to take a stroll down to the river and stumbled upon Mortimers - the facade of the very old building is lovely with large windows (spoilt by silly 'etchings' of badger / stag etc which appear to be a left-over from Christmas and done in spray-on snow - not cool) - we received a warm welcome from a gentleman who we assumed was the owner - the interior is very nice, clean and very 'country' - the only problem was that it was freezing in the cafe, being 4 degrees C outside and I expect about 10 degrees C inside, despite a wood burner at each end of the room - one was glowing very dimly, the other just not lit - we overheard people on the tables around us all remarking on how cold the place was - the menu is interesting including a selection of Rarebits made with a 200 year old recipe - the food we had was excellent, of good quality and reasonably priced, and the coffee exceedingly good. Just one thing I was not impressed with was the state of the toilet seat in the very clean unisex loo, the underside of which was not pleasant to the eye - definitely needs a trip to Travis Perkins up the road for a new loo seat !

Can't understand the negative reviews. This is a simple, family-run (I believe) café serving good honest home-made food. The burgers are big and taste fresh with probably locally-sourced ingredients, the treacle tart with clotted cream is unbelievably good. The coffee is pretty good. Ok, so the decor isn't as flashy as a Starbucks or a Café Nero, and there's a washing machine opposite the toilet. But so what? It all adds to the homey appeal. And you can be sure the food isn't mass-produced in some central warehouse like those big chain places. My only complaint is I'm never quite sure when it's open, because I've been there a few times only to find it closed! Other than that, it's a great café, my favourite in Dulverton by far.

Took ages to order, or get the attention of staff, and wasn’t particularly busy, service very slow ..food ok, but served with dirty cutlery and chipped crockery which puts me off completely . Eating area is stifling , with tables crammed together, public areas looks generally tired and in need of basic maintenance..nothing that a good manager couldn’t sort, it’s such a shame as it is in a good location .

We came with another family so altogether 7 people including 3 kids. We waited very long time for lunch on a Saturday. It’s a hot day and very hard to keep kids entertained in a small cafe style restaurant waiting patiently for the food. And we only ordered toasted sandwiches not full on meal! We also asked for an empty bowl for the baby twice and didn’t get anything. Eventually we walked to the till and asked for the third time and finally got it. We made our second visit in six months to these premises and once again it was excellent. The rarebit on its own is worth the visit but we made the 'mistake ' of sitting opposite the homemade cakes that looked so good and kept calling to us, so we thought it would rude not to finish up with coffee and cake. My treacle tart was everything I was hoping for but my wife said her lemon drizzle cake although a wonderful cake was missing some lemon. Arrived in Dulverton somewhat frazzled after a foggy journey across the moors and we were feeling wet, cold and miserable but that soon passed as we entered the cosy atmosphere of Mortimers. There was a big welcome and an even bigger cup of hot chocolate piled high with marshmallows soon on the table. The latte was good too. We hadn't intended to do more than warm up with a hot drink but the appetising menu persuaded us to have a cranberry and brie toasty, first class, and rarebit; not sliced cheese on toast and stuck under the grill but a proper, puffed-up saucy concoction that really hit the spot. Too full to sample the tempting cakes we will return for afternoon tea another time and try out the delights on offer. Also - a very clean loo - full marks, Mortimers.

a group or 8 of us had traveled up to go a barle safari and as we arrived with time to spare looked for an unplanned breakfast. The staff were just opening up but quickly fed us and gave us drinks with no complaints form anyone. A nice place to sit out and enjoy the sun in the morning as well

sat in the sunny window seat watching the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious slice of chocolate cake and smooth coffee. The waitress was friendly and chatty and service was speedy and smiley. The chef looked to have whipped up some delicious lunches for the table near us and the whole atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

Sat down to be served , quite busy but not too bad. Waitress didn't notice us at all and seemed totally clueless , started tasks then wandered around wondering what to do next. After people who came in well after us and went to counter to order and got served,we gave up and went elsewhere. Such a shame as this used to be very good. Now staff come and go all time, its lost its direction and continuity. Staff seem to be youngsters, who don't seem to be trained or " with it "

After one closed pub and one full one we came across this place on a chilly February lunchtime, and I'm so glad we did! Very friendly and welcoming staff, a super selection of lovely cakes and a nice lunchtime menu. I started with a very tasty hot chocolate (the drink bit itself was top notch, not just the mountain of cream and marshmallows on top), and all of our drinks and meals were fantastic. Did I mention the cakes? The impressive bakewell tart caught our eye as soon as we saw it, and we weren't disappointed when time for pud arrived.I loved the simple continental style prices on the menu too; more places should do this to save everyone the bother of faffing around trying to add up 95 and 99p all the time.I'm trying to think of something that we didn't like just for balance, but I really can't; for example, even though it's only a tiny place, they had still found space for a little baby change area, which made our visit that little bit easier. If we find ourselves in the area again we won't bother looking for a pub, we'll come straight here again (I'll be trying the rarebit next time...).

We called in for a light lunch and ended up so full that we had to cancel our evening meal! The food was delicious and plentiful and the staff very friendly.

We have been in a few times to Mortimers having walked past many times before. Very glad we went in, WE have been for tea and cake, a long Sunday brunch and a few lunches and it's always decent food fairly priced with lots of choice. Staff are nice (if a bit busy sometimes doing it all themselves) and there is lovely local art to see too!

A very good dog friendly pub with rooms. Rooms clean, food brilliant, friendly staff and dogs allowed everywhere. Only thing that could be improved is the guest entrance to the hotel, very tired and need of updating. Otherwise a brilliant stay!

Great welcome from the hosts, who gave great advice on things to do and see in the area. We had a lovely 1 night stay at the Notley Arms. Lovely clean and comfy room. Great evening meal and breakfast in the pub which had a great atmosphere. We would stay here again.
