After hearing about this place I thought I'd give it a go. The menu board said roasted butternut squash soup so I ordered that and my friend asked about the quiche. She asked what flavour it was and was told they didn't know as someone made it that wasn't in that day, the girl proceeded to lift it up and say well I think that's onion there ..... Surely it should have been labelled clearly with an Ingredients list to hand ? When the food came my butternut squash soup was a watery grainy off white colour! When I asked what flavour it was i was told vegetable, it turned out the menu was incorrect. The soup was very bland and the texture was not nice at all. My friend complained on my behalf as I'm not the complaining type, we were then informed the soup was potato and celery (which explains the awful texture). I exchanged the soup for a Cornish pasty, which was then 'plonked' in the middle of a plate, served cold with no garnish which again I thought was rather odd. The food (and some drinks) I feel were rather overpriced for a community cafe with prices I thought matched a high end cafe. The toilet was in the cold bike shed and the door handle very loose, as the door is so stiff to open I was worried the handle would come off to be honest, my friend also found this to be the case. We were also informed by a man going up the stairs in the sofa extension room that he could hear every word we said! Hmmmmm not very private, we chose that area to be away from the main cafe so we could talk more openly, this maybe could be addressed ? All in all I don't think I would be in a rush to return and have eaten better food which is cheaper elsewhere

We were passing by on a very wet Saturday afternoon and decided to pop in for some freshly baked bread. The baker used to be in the town centre and bakes the most amazing breads. Anyway, it was nearly 2pm and we hadn't had lunch so decided to stay. I'm glad we did. Although by that time they had sold out of lots of things (because its freshly prepared) we were made a Cornish pasty, salad and coleslaw. All made on the premises. It was beautiful. Great big pieces of real meat inside the pasty and the pastry tasted of real butter too. Yummy. I would highly recommend going here.

Lovely staff & welcoming, cosy atmosphere. The bread, cakes & coffee are to die for. On top of that, all the profits go back to the local community.

can only think the negative reviews are coming from the deadwood they have got rid of as the food is amazing and plentiful.

We found the Rectory in Guide Michelin and as always the seem to deliver on their recommendations. It was a little hard to find the place, but one there we got a nice table facing the garden. Starters excellent - the lobster and the squid. The Duck as a main course also very good. The pasta with truffles needed more taste. The cheeses were served on a hot plate and melted - more raclette than selected cheeses. Attentive and friendly staff.

Usually eat here once a month and always enjoy the food. However when visiting today myself and my family all had chicken burgers and the chicken was burnt and very dry for £15 for burger and chips I’d expect better than burnt dry chicken it had no flavour at all, definitely wouldn’t order that again and the coleslaw is not nice at all just tastes like a mouth full of raw onion.
