MONELLIS Sourdough Pizza in Hastings

Went for lunch on Saturday. This is literally a tiny place with seating for no more than 20 people. If you go and it’s packed, roam the seafront or the High Street and return. It is that good. They greet their regulars like family. The pizza is delicious. I had the sei formaggi - perfect and my friend had the tartufata - also perfect and delicious. If you are in Hastings, this is must visit restaurant. It is the best pizza I’ve had since I’ve been in the UK.

We were blown away by the amazing pizzas (we shared a Contadina and a Sei Formaggi) and had such a good conversation about soughdough fermentation and their ingredients with Francesca (they are passionate about their sourdough culture and giving plenty of time for the dough to ferment, and sourcing their ingredients). Next time we visit, we will be more strategic to allow us to try a salad and ice cream too. Very highly recommended.

Monelli’s is the best pizza place around. You can eat in or take away. There are only a few tables inside & you can’t book. The range & quality of pizzas are incredible. We live the other end of Kent so it’s a distance to travel so we can’t come here often but we will try to eat here whenever we’re in Hastings. Highly recommend.

A strict no reservations policy but definitely worth waiting for a table. A real mix of families and couples catered for on a busy early Saturday evening. Frankie and Francesca make quite the team; welcoming, engaging and attentive. A large and beautifully cooked sour dough pizza and a (huge) fresh salad made for a great pre-theatre meal

I can’t rate this place enough. It’s a must eat when visiting Hastings. Not only is the pizza (and everything else) exceptional, the people working there are incredibly friendly and passionate about their food. Honestly, I loved it when I lived in Hastings and make sure I go back every single time I visit. You’ll be thinking about this pizza long after you leave I promise.

My mum and I shared a margarita pizza, the tomato sauce in it was amazing. Then we shared a tiramisu which was good too. The staff were nice there. We would definitely come back.

Some of the best pizza I have ever had - delicious base with a wide range of toppings, and you can see the care that has gone into creating the menu. The staff are all incredibly friendly, are happy to have a conversation about their food, and are flawless in their craft. The atmosphere is really chill and intimate, with a beautifully decorated restaurant.

We had a fantastic experience at MONELLIS Sourdough Gourmet Pizza! Frankie, the owner, welcomed us warmly and shared the story behind their sourdough pizzas-naturally fermented for 7 days, resulting in a flavourful, slightly milky crust. We tried CARNAZZA (tomato base) and SPETTACOLARE (white base), both were incredible! The crust was perfectly baked, and the toppings were generous and high quality. Though we love tomato-based pizzas, the white base was a pleasant surprise. Frankie's passion was evident-he even demonstrated baking and flipping techniques with his friends! We also had their homemade tiramisu, which was beautifully layered and refreshing. To top it off, when we left a package behind, Frankie kindly offered to mail it back. Such a great place with amazing food and warm hospitality-highly recommended if you're in Hastings!

I’m not exaggerating when I say Monelli’s is probably the nicest pizza I’ve ever had - this includes visits to Italy! Had a wonderful meal there today, and Frankie was so friendly and accommodating to us all! I cannot wait to return!

My family and I had the pleasure of re-visiting Monelli's after a while, and we couldn't be happier to taste their delicious food again. Francesca and Francesco are a force of nature, together with their sourdough! The calzone and the pizza calabrese were amazing... we will definitely not wait too much to go to Monelli's again.

Lived here in Hastings for a short while and finally got to visit Monellis. The hosts were lovely, talkative and engaging. It's a small but lively atmosphere and the pizzas are amazing. Probably the best pizzas in town (sorry Brewing Brothers)

Had a brilliant meal here with my family, and dog! Dog friendly, kid friendly. Brilliant value, big pizzas and everything tasted very fresh. The atmosphere was cool, great music playing. we had a delicious glass of wine for £5.50. I ate my pizza too quickly to take a pic but the desert menu is not to be missed! You have to try the Cannoli. We will be back again.

This was a great experience, not only was it one of the best pizzas we have tasted. The owner and his wife are such a lovely host, and we loved the educational explanation of how they prepare their food! Absolutely worth a visit!

Very good pizza. Sour dough over 100 years old. We were very please with the gorgonzola, artichoke, mushroom, parma ham and meat pizzas. The service and owners were also lovely.

On a cold day we were welcomed in for some delicious pizza at Monellis at lunchtime. We had two small dogs but they weren't a problem kept under the table (even given some doggo biscuits :) The pizza dough was incredibly tasty and toppings were high quality ingredients. Clearly these people care about the food they are creating. We will definitely come back for dinner sometime!

Pizzas are nice but very overpriced - I came from London and was expecting the prices to be similiar or lower but this was the most expensive pizza I’ve bought. How can a standard veggie topping cost £3.50.

Undoubtedly the best Pizza I have ever tasted and I can assure you I've had plenty of pizzas. A true artisan and perfectionist makes traditional pizzas with unrivalled passion. This is NOT your high street fast-food pizza restaurant, this is NOT another run of the mill pizza place, this is where other pizza restaurants don't want you to know about. Come here once and you'll never go back to anywhere else for pizza. Be warned! Once you've tried the best you can forget the rest. An excellent dish through in and throughout. Authentic to the sourdough name (100 years sourdough)! As a gluten in tolerant individual, the Margarita Pizza has left me leaving fulfilled, satisfied and most importantly not feeling ‘glutened’. Would highly recommend anyone visiting Hastings :)

MONELLIS Sourdough Gourmet Pizza Review from 21/12024, 13:30, table for two by a window for me and my partner. Where to begin, it's a small family owned restaurant so you know it's good unlike all these big chains, there's no reservations it is walk in, first come first served. Staff: They were super friendly and had a beautiful smile on their faces the moment i opened the door up to the moment I left, we felt like we was at home. Food: Let me tell you something folks this is family that perfected how to to make the perfect pizza over one hundred years ago. Firstly I'd like to point out I've been to almost every Italian and pizza place in the south east of England. I've spent loads of time all over Italy and tried hundreds of different pizza places over there. Until today a little restaurant in Florence had ranked first on my list for best pizza I've ever tried, today that changed and became the second. The best pizza I've ever tried and I didn't even have to leave my home town. Base: sourdough 5 day old fermentation for that extra rich flavour and blend, it was crisp and had a nice chew to it which was so good my jaw wasn't aching after. Sauce: PERFECTION PEOPLE, if you go here and tell me you didn't like the sauce I would assume you have no taste in anything and should stick to beans on toast. The sauce was good not sweet like most places that ruin it with sugar and not acidic either it was perfect and with the mix of mozzarella just fit like a glove. The topping to go with mine was parma ham, it was perfectly cured and it was put on my pizza after it came out the oven, unlike so many places that put it in the oven with the pizza and burn it. Portions: the size was a big pizza but the filling of it was perfect i was walking back to the car satisfied that I wasn't hungry but not full up to the point I want to unbutton my trousers. Price: The price for it was reasonable you pay for quality and quality is what was served. Location is right up George Street, this is a perfect location as its within walking distance of town and in the old town where there are loads of beautiful shops to visit along your travels, it's always nice a lively with a peaceful presence up Goerge Street and perfect place to stop for a quick bite or dinner if you are along Goerge street visiting or as a tourist. 100/10 will definitely be going back.

This is one of those places where I've had the pleasure of trying everything on the menu, and everytime I order, even if it's something I've had before, a wave of excitement overcomes me. This place has opened my eyes to such a variety of foods, which I would have never tried, furthermore the combinations of ingredients create such palatable harmony, this is evident in every pizza, particularly in each of the "specials". These Gourmet Sourdough pizzas and their ingredients aren't just thrown together, they are meticulously crafted, You can Watch as Frankie operates, he composes the finishing touches with surgical precision. Monellis is my favorite place in Hastings, not only is the food great but even the atmosphere, a very welcoming environment, a most enjoyable place to dine and make friends.

Loved the meal and experience we had here. The pizzas were delicious, with fresh delicious ingredients, some from the region of Puglia where the owner is from. Frankie, the owner, is passionate about the pizza combinations that he creates. The sourdough base was lovely too, we had been looking for a sourdough pizza in the area and were not disappointed. Visited last night, and it’s always our go-to spot when we’re in Hastings. The food is incredible, the staff are super friendly, and the kids absolutely love it. They even joked they’d ditch Domino’s if we had a Monellis closer to home!

Great pizza! Better than the pizzas in Italy. Their dough (an old family recipe) is really great. All the flavors are so pure. Also the salad. They only use the best ingredients, and you can taste it. Thank you for this delicious food.

Me and my boyfriend first came here on a trip to Hastings 3 years ago (we had dinner here 3 times in 1 week!). This year we spent halloween by the coast so had to make a stop to come back for the amazing sourdough pizza😁 The owners are so friendly and lovely we definitely would recommend the food and service here❤️

Lovely little place. Friday night visiting Hastings for the theatre. About 2/3 full with people coming and going. Nice welcome. I think the waitress and head chef were the owners. I was on my own and ordered the Calabrese. The head chef came over and explained the Sour Dough - I am a bit of pizza hobbyist and he was very patient with my questions. The pizza was full of flavour - very spicy but a glass of an excellent Primivito red wine matched very well. The service was excellent. You can tell the owners care about what they do both in the food prep as the oven and prep area are behind the counter and also the interaction with customers. When not serving, the owners would be chatting away to each other in Italian which also added to the overall bonhomie. I wish I hadn't had to rush - it was one of those places you wanted starter, main and desert plus a bottle of wine or two then be tipped into a taxi for home...

The hospitality of frankie and francesca is legendary. The fact they make the best pizza in the whole wide world to boot, is a phenomenal bonus. (Go for the tartufata...*chefs kiss)

Quite simply the best place to eat in the area and the best pizza we have EVER had!

The pizza is delicious, the prices are about 40-60% higher than usual. Friendly atmosphere and good service. I did not like the coffee - it is not tasty for an Italian cafe, the quality is very low and the price is overpriced for such coffee. And also a very small room.

After seeing so many rave reviews of Monelli’s online, we knew that we had to check it out on our trip to Hastings - and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The owner’s passion for his craft was evident in the food: the Principessa had a spot-on ratio of ingredients and was perfectly indulgent without being overbearing, and the Moka special’s unique and delicious blend of coffee, walnuts and goat’s cheese will be a flavour experience that we remember for a long time to come! Despite being incredibly full after these pizzas, we also tried the cannarotto desserts and were SO glad that we did. The freshness of Monelli’s ingredients really shines through in their creative and well-thought-out menu, and this combined with the restaurant’s warm, cosy atmosphere makes it an absolute winner - a must-visit when in Hastings!

One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had, including in Italy! Lovely friendly couple who are completely dedicated to producing the best pizza’s possible. Went once with my sister and then had to bring my wife cos she saw the photos and was so jealous. Love it that well behaved dogs are welcome. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and for me, it was more than worth it.

The staff were lovely, so friendly. Our dog was with us and she was welcomed too. We had the Monelli House Special Pizza to share. It was the tastiest pizza we've ever had. The house wine, a nice dry white went well with the mixed olives. We finished with coffee. We are definitely going back.

Most incredible restaurant! I have been here many times now and always have the most amazing experience. When you walk in you will be greeted by lovely owners, Frankie and Francesca who are clearly both so passionate about what they do. Frankie can even educate you on all things sourdough! The service is amazing, the staff so attentive and kind, and the pizza… the best pizza I have ever had. The quality is incredible and consistent every time I go, and with the wide variety of unique pizzas, all created by Frankie, you’re spoilt for choice. I will be coming back ever week! Seriously a must visit when in Hastings, you won’t be disappointed!

Been coming here since they opened. Simply the freshest, tastiest, best pizza ever. Me and my family love the place

Really exceptional pizza. The dough is made several days in advance, allowing it to mature with a bold flavour and reduce the gluten content. I often feel bad after a pizza due to a mild gluten intolerance, but this pizza gave me great pleasure when eating it and none of the dis-pleasure afterwards. Their cooking methods are not “traditional” - electric oven and blowtorch to finish (this helps to better control the cooking temperatures) but the result is exceptional. Maturing dough for so long reduces gluten content, making it very hard to stretch without tearing, so they have to very very gently stretch the pizza. None of that spinning it about your head nonsense! Expect to pay more than what you usually do for a pizza, but this is no ordinary pizza. Would it be Neapolitan sacrilege to say this is the best pizza I’ve ever had? Well, it is. And I’ve tried all the most famous places in Naples.

My Zia Ciccia puccia was incredibly delicious. The flavour of the cheese and meat was beautiful, clearly high quality ingredients. All in a wonderful sourdough with some basil for just the right amount of freshness. An extra special lunch.
