Visiting Monelli’s is like being on holiday in Italy. We’ve been coming to this fabulous pizza restaurant for five years, since it opened in our home town. The pizzas are delicious; made with sourdough and love, while the atmosphere is as friendly and welcoming on a mad-busy summer evening as it is on a gloomy winter lunchtime. Vegetarians as those who might be driving are well catered for. My favourite is the Crodino Spritz with a chilli in it. The coffee is specially blended and don’t forget to leave room for the delicious home-made ice-cream.

Be prepared to spend more here than the higher-end pizza resturants you'll find in most cities now (Rudy', Pizza Punks etc), but the pizza at Monellis is superb and beats the likes of Rudy's all round. Also, a great atmosphere within the little resturant, the owners and staff are very friendly. On the point of price and some of the less positive comments, particularly the drinks, in my mind you have to consider that the owners need to make most of their income during the spring and summer months, so for us it was a matter of buying into what is a unqiue experience and a holiday treat, which you are unlikely to find in many resturants in the area.

My time here started ok as it was clearly communicated there would be a wait of 40-45 minutes. We was happy to wait given the reviews on here which are typically very accurate. We had been waiting 35 minutes, the starter came which was ok at best, following this there was some tables which became vacant inside. It was still 45 minutes until closing time, as they had stopped accepting new guests due to the wait time for pizza. So we politely requested if we could move inside (given there was no reservations for these tables) it was becoming chilly outside with a coat and we wanted to enjoy the pizza in some relative warmth. We were declined by the young girl attending us, she pretty lacked a basic level of customer service levels. Her colleague (an older lady) sadly didn't help us sadly, as she was looking after other tables, that was a shame as it likely she may have turned the overall experience around. The pizza was average at best! The overall lack of emotional empathy from the people taking £50+ out of your hands for something so average really means this is a place i’d highly recommend avoiding. I don’t mind waiting if I know the food and/or the service is great but when it’s like this…!

An amazing piece of South-east Italy in East Sussex!

Absolutely love this place. Best pizza I have had in I don't know how long, and the garlic bread... jheeeeeeze, it is incredible. Staff were lovely, we had 3 young children with us and 3 adults, we sat outside and they couldn't accommodate us enough. We're in Hastings regularly so will definitely be going back. Thanks guys!!

Monellis. THE best thing to come out of Italy since da Vinci. No. Better than that. Exceptional. Unbelievable. It makes me sad that I cannot eat the whole menu in one evening.

Probably the best pizza I ever had in my entire life. It was like a symphony in my mouth; the toppings - which are of premium quality - contrasted or supplemented each other beautifully, and the (sour)dough - my goodness, the dough! - was incredible. All I can say is I left a clean plate (should you forgo to eat the golden brown, crispy yet tender crust of a pizza at Monellis, well... I'm sure there is a special place in hell for such crimes against such fine cuisine). It was so, so good that we went back two days later. The owner (and chef!) of the restaurant is also a very pleasurable host; talking about his love for great food with much gusto. Suffice to say this place comes highly recommended!

Coming from our holiday in Sicily last week o can't believe we had even better pizza in Hastings Uk!! Absolutely authentic and REAL TASTE sourdough- I could only eat the dough with olive oil! Totally recommend and staff are lovely

My first time visiting. Fantastic pizza, the best around! One of the best coffees I’ve had around Hastings, and I drink a lot of coffee! Friendly staff and great service. Leuk klein restaurantje. We zaten buiten op het terrasje, zodat we alle piraten konden zien langskomen in George Street. Nadat ik binnen besteld had, kwamen de drankjes al voordat ik binnen klaar was met bestellen. De pizza’s kwamen een ruim kwartier later. We hadden de volgende pizza’s besteld: Margherita Margherita met een extra topping (spicy sausage) Tartufata Carnazza Mijn zoontje van 8 was als eerste klaar met zijn pizza en verklaarde dat het de beste pizza ooit was. Zijn zusje van 6 kon haar pizza niet op krijgen, maar mijn zoontje wilde wel helpen en samen ging ook die pizza op. De speciale manier van deeg bereiden, maakte de pizza bijzonder smaakvol. Het enige minpuntje was dat de pizza’s misschien te groot waren. Dit kleine restaurant heeft geen toilet, houdt daar rekening mee!

This 5 star rating is long overdue. We travel miles just to eat here it’s amazing. The best pizzeria we have ever been to and we have eaten a lot of pizzas throughout the years. The food is sublime. It’s a lovely authentic family run restaurant.The owners are so passionate and the quality of food is amazing. The Mama Salad is a must. Can’t wait for our next visit

I'd like to start my review of my visit by saying the pizza at Monellis was sublime and you could tell it had the highest quality ingredients. A lot of love and care goes into it, especially the sourdough which was one of the best I've ever had. We had decided to visit Monellis before visiting due to the promise of quality ingredients and the positive reviews, even if it was on the pricier end of the spectrum. Beyond this, our visit was soured by the odd policies and frosty reception from who I assume is the owner. Once seated and taking our order, we requested some tap water to which we were told if we just want tap water, they'd rather us just get a pizza to take away. It was a very hot day and we just wanted water. To end the awkwardness of this interaction I ordered a glass of wine. This is not the first impression you want of a restaurant. As I say, we were aware of the quality of the ingredients and cooking and the owner was using this point to justify the tap water point. We had always planned to eat in - we didn't want a take away. I therefore take exception to essentially being told they don't want our custom as a sit in customer if we're just having some water. Considering the cost of the pizzas we ordered was £60 + a service charge, I feel the argument being made by the owner could not justify this point. As I say, this three star review is purely based on my experience - fantastic food, odd service and policies. After leaving the restaurant, I noticed that any reviews which aren't five stars and glowing are met with, questionable, feedback from the owner. It appears the restaurant has a number of different policies - inside/outside seating, buggies etc. as well as ones I noticed on the menu about minimum food costs for purchasing a drink. Nothing on there about a minimum spend for tap water... The restaurant has a fantastic story about its authenticity and ingredients but appears to have more policies than the House of Commons. Forgive me for eavesdropping too but in a discussion with another guest the owner was talking about the importance of reviews and his interest in consumer behaviour. On the former, reviews are incredibly important, the positive, the 'constructive', and the negative. Most of the reviews that I've seen that received the snarky feedback I would put in the 'constructive' category - highlighting similar issues to what I experienced. For a business to be sustainable you have to be open to critique and should definitely not belittle those who provide feedback. On the latter - I work in advertising so am too interested in it. One of the things that consumers are though is irrational and unpredictable. You cannot expect someone to notice a number of notices and notes when visiting. Visiting a restaurant is welcoming someone into your kitchen and your house, in this case a very impressive one. I get the feeling that owner has all of these policies as they want to control the experience visitors have. You can't expect patrons to notice terms and conditions which seem unjustified and then not to have their visit soured, as we did. To conclude, I cannot fault Monellis on the food. The food is outstanding and if you visit you will receive fantastic, high quality Pugliese pizza. Nevertheless, I can't help but feel like our experience was tainted by the odd response to our tap water request. After subsequently realising that others have had similar experiences and that the owner is not receptive to critique it would not make me want to return. I anticipate that the owner will respond to my review, given its comprehensive nature and I hope that they will be able to acknowledge the critique I have provided and not descend into belittling or being told we are wrong. This restaurant deserves to do well given the quality of the food but to be sustainable you have to listen and acknowledge ALL feedback. The customer most definitely isn't always right but they can often provide insight on how to chase the perfection that owner clearly desires.

Having travelled quite a lot through Italy this simply is the best Pizza I've ever tasted. The crust is incredible, and the ingredients and seasoning are fantastic. This is truly a gem and I hope they can expand to get bigger premises as they need to share these incredible pizzas and wonderful deserts. Friendly, accommodating, and wonderful service. I will be returning.

Amazing little gem in Hastings. A very friendly and warm welcome from the hostess/owner. Cosy and yet light and airy establishment. They have a good selection of pizza, calzone, salads, and desserts to suit all budgets and appetites. THE BEST PIZZA AND BEST SOURDOUGH I HAVE EVER EATEN! I'm not exaggerating!! Attention to detail was second to none. Everyone in the area needs to experience the food here. We loved it. We came for my wife's birthday. It was special!

Best pizza I’ve ever had outside of Italy 🇮🇹

I am local and it's always nice to eat somewhere new . This place had a buzz around it all my friends have eaten here so I was excited to dine here I do like pizza and have sampled many mostly in Italy 🇮🇹 OK so the pizza is not cheap which is not an issue but what followed was for me . My friend was visiting from London so we went here on the off chance . The lady who works there was very welcoming engaging and polite . We sat outside we made our choice of pizza each and ordered in a bottle of house red wine for £28.00 This is lunchtime sunshine beautiful day in George Street. Out came the wine with two glasses and a little white paperbag . Inside was a serviette and a silly wooden knife and fork ? I mean come on you serve expensive pizza and expect me to eat it with these utensils ? I resorted to using my hands so hardly fine dining . I went inside to ask for some tap water as it was very hot out . The waitress brought out a prepared bottle of tap water and two paper cups . The water was not cold so I went in and asked for some ice , the male chef brought a cup of ice out put it on the table and told me we do not normally give ice with tap water ? I ask where is the service your also not allowed to have any sauces with your food . As a customer who dines around the world in some of the finest places , I will have what I want when I dine out therefor you will be pleased to know I will not be returning . As an adult I like to eat with proper cutlery. Wooden knives and forks are for 5 year old eating nuggets and chips . UPDATE I can see from your response to any feedback that your ego is more important than your customer service , very rude . My review is not mean it is honest and I would like to inform you I'm happy with all the choices I make in my life may it be good or bad restaurant wise or other. As a buisness owner it's important to listen to customer feedback . I've never dined at domino's so I can't tell you what it taste like or how good the service is , but of course I've eaten fish and chips I live by the sea ! And I do like a bit of salt, vinegar and ketchup on my chips I only like heinz though 🙂.

I absolutely loved my experience here and would come again! I was happy they had vegan options, and the food was beyond delicious. You can tell the owners were very passionate and knowledgeable about the food they served. I had the Contadina with vegan mozzarella, which was absolutely delicious, and my husband very much enjoyed the Sei Formaggi! We also enjoyed the sourdough garlic bread as a starter, it smelled (and tasted) amazing, served with really good quality olive oil 👌

If you are around, you shall not miss this small Italian restaurant, where the super-friendly owners: Frankie and Francesca make you the most welcome and serve you the most delicious pizza… They use fantastic ingredients, homemade desserts and they give you a little piece of their heart as well. Great pizza good vibes, real Italians

This is the best pizza I have ever had. Even in Italy. The sauce is incredible. Made From Puglian tomatoes. The base is proper sourdough. Lovely staff and chef is really passionate. Very thankful to have this on my doorstep. Highly recommend. *Returned recently an hour before closing and we were turned away. The place was empty but the owners said they always close an hour earlier than advertised. Very annoying as you can’t book. For a place that only opens at the weekends it’s a tough call but I found this quite unreasonable and disappointing. I’m not sure how you are supposed to know this rule.

My family (wife and 2 kids) and I visited for dinner during a day trip to Hastings. Frankie and Francesca and their team looked after us so well, the ambience of the place was truly special (it left us wanting to visit Italy asap) and the pizza was absolutely outstanding. Super friendly little spot in Hastings olds town. The pizza was delicious with a generous amount of toppings, they managed to accommodate 7 of us kindly reshuffling some tables to do so. The pizza was really good, as mentioned already a generous amount of toppings and cooked beautifully, I usually leave my crusts but they were polished off too. We chatted with the staff and they were attentive and helpful. Will definitely be back next time we are in Hastings.

Monelli’s is a rare gem of a restaurant and a personal favourite! My family and I can’t stop coming back and have been visiting regularly since 2021 when we first stumbled upon it. The owners Frankie and Francesca have truly created a special place that feels so welcoming, cosy and relaxed - and hands down serves the best pizza I’ve ever had! Nothing beats authentic sourdough and it’s hard not to feel the love, passion and attention to detail that’s poured into this place and the incredible food they make. A lovingly nurtured 100 year old mother dough proves this no less! This is a culinary experience not to be missed if you appreciate exceptional pizza made with quality ingredients, tradition and soul. You’ll find a pizza menu like you’ve probably never seen it before and enjoy a little slice of authentic Italy with the wonderful atmosphere and friendliest people at Monelli's. I wanted to like this so much! Monelli’s is great and was so keen to try their new delivery offering. However the sandwich was not worth the price. I wouldn’t order again for the outrageous pricing and incorrect ingredient used. The meat in the sandwich was not porchetta but instead prosciutto/ Parma ham which I did not want, so it was a Gorgonzola sandwich for me, which wasn’t the best. Great ingredients for sure, but sadly can’t agree for nearly 20£ per torta :( Cannoli was small for 5£. I know

What a treat! The most delicious pizzas served by really friendly people who are passionate about what they do. This lovely restaurant is a real asset to Hastings old town. We felt really looked after, food came quickly and was amazing.

This was 100% the best pizza I had in the UK if not ever. We have been recommended to visit this place by a lot of people so today we decided to walked in (as they don’t do bookings) and were immediately seated. I honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough. Beautiful rustic and really on brand decor, intimate atmosphere with great subtle music choice, really friendly staff especially the owners - Frankie and Francesca and of course outstanding food! We had a garlic bread starter to share and that was THE BEST GARLIC BREAD I have ever had. Presentation was amazing as I never had it served in such a unique shape, perfect amount of garlic and the dough was unreal. Same sourdough was used for our pizza - just incredible. I added toppings on mine and Parma ham portion was delicious but also huge for what you pay. Definitely on a high end of prices for pizza but 100% worth every penny. Ingredients were fresh, tasty and of great value plus drinks were really fairly priced so at the end not too expensive at all. You can tell immediately how much Frankie loves his place and how much effort goes in. This was our first date night since we moved to Hastings and I’m so incredibly happy we visited Monellis. This place is truly Hasting’s Gem !

Monellis pizza is not to be missed when in Hastings. We found it simply by googling some local restaurants as we were looking to eat somewhere. What a gem with authentic Puglia's flavours. Pizza is one of the best we ate in the UK. The varieties of flavours and toppings are so different.with ingredients from Puglia. The dessers were equally delicious, home made ice creams and delicious ricotta cream coffee. Frankie and Francesca are the nicest owners and super friendly hosts. Everything they do you can feel passion for their business and pride of serving high quality food. We will definitely be back when visiting the seaside, you just made it to my favourite places to go back to. We thank you for a wonderful experience we had today at your restaurant.

The owners were so welcoming when you enter and gave the best recommendation. You can really tell they love what they do and are well versed in the craft of pizza making alongside hospitality. The pizza they recommended to me had truffle, artichoke, mushrooms and rocket perfectly placed by the chef with tweezers and was delicious. Any time I come to Hastings I will be visiting and cannot wait till they open up in London hopefully!

TERRIBLE SERVICE! BEWARE. We went there in the late afternoon, hoping to eat some snacks as we are not very hungry. However, we were refused a seat as we order a pizza to share. They claimed that the space is tight while in fact they are only 2 other tables in the whole restaurant which total around 8 tables. At the time we went, it was obviously off-peak. What an amazing service. Definitely the WORST I’ve seen in a while.

I rarely write reviews in Italian, but I feel at home here and therefore I have to speak my language! If I could give 10 out of 5 stars I would! I have been an Italian in London for 5 years, there are many restaurants that proclaim themselves "authentic Italians", but few can truly say it and I Monelli's are 100% Italian excellence! Mother yeast handed down for more than 100 years, natural and genuine ingredients, hospitality exactly as if you were in Italy, a coffee so good that it is truly a joy to enjoy... Not to mention the coffee affogato (absolutely to try). What can I say, it's always a joy to come back to them, they always have a smile on their faces and a happiness that transmits joy to everyone, they are always full of people (people know where the good stuff is!). Now all you have to do is take the first train to Hastings (among other things, a wonderful place to visit) and go and try the REAL Italian experience! Went to get a pizza to go with my husband and by far it is the best the pizza I have ever had. The only complaint I have is that they don’t have branches in other cities. The pizza base was flavourful, well topped, every ingredient was thought about and the combination of the toppings beautifully married together to create the most excellent mouth-watering flavours. We visited Monellis during our weekend away to Hastings after being recommended to visit by locals. The vegan pizza was incredible and the best we have ever tried! It was lovely to see how passionate the owners were about their food and the effort they made to ensure that the vegan pizzas were as amazing as their non-vegan pizzas. The staff were so attentive. 10/10 and would recommend to any vegan pizza lovers!!

Frankie & Francesca are absolute legends who fill you with warmth, comfort and of course delicious, mouthwatering pizza! We drive one and a half hours just to come to Monellis for their delicious focaccia, pizza & affogato! If you’re visiting the south east coast, you can’t leave without coming here! The pizza is the best pizza I've ever had. And Frankee our waitress was so wonderful! I dropped some cutlery and she was over in a flash to replace the set. So thoughtful!

Dough was lovely, don't get me wrong, sauce was nice but way too much of it and cheese non existent. Toppings are very limited on options. Essentially, it was very overpriced tomato sauce on a pizza base, which was all you could taste. Wouldn't go back

I have been coming here for many years with my young nephew George and Mother. My young nephew can be fussy but he is always greeted in a friendly manner and now feels comfortable here and eats very well. The staff are very friendly. The ingredients that are used are very high quality. Over all the years we have come here we have been warmly welcomed and had the very best food and we have never had a bad experience in any way. This is pizza perfection. The atmosphere is comfortable. Everything is done in a good order. The best pizza. Cannot recommend enough.

Myself and my partner visited Hastings for a little holiday, little did we know we would stumble across this amazing restaurant 😍 we didn’t eat in as we had somewhere to be however we couldn’t resist the look of the focaccia in the window! We ordered 2 slices and it was the best thing I have ever tasted. Very authentic Italian and freshly made, I’m just sad it’s so far away from where we live as I would eat here everyday if I could! The pizzas looked amazing and I would definitely revisit Hastings just to go back here :) the staff were super friendly and the service was brilliant 🤩

Amazing food and service! The pistachio ice cream is actually made from pistachio and not artificial flavouring. Everything is made with love. A much cheaper option instead of going all the way to Italy for this quality of food. It will now be sacrilege to eat anywhere else when I’m in Hastings!

We visited Monellis after seeing all the great reviews - it is highly recommended. Staff were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We went for a Margherita and a Calabrese - and we were not disappointed. Freshly made with quality ingredients, both pizzas were stunning. They were large pizzas, I believe this is as standard. Thank you for such a wonderful lunch, we will be back!

Went back to Monelli’s last night for a Carnazza pizza as I love meat . It was outstanding. Being Italian myself, I can only appreciate the top quality of ingredients they use, mostly imported from Italy , makes such a difference to the taste and make their pizzas so unique . Yes it is more expensive, but considering the quality , it is worth the extra cost . Love it ❤️😋 will be back sooner !

Good food but very expensive for Hastings… or actually anywhere

Amazing!!! The pizzas here are the best we've ever had in the UK. We came to Hastings Old Town in February, as a couple, and came to Monellis then for the first time. We loved the pizza, the owners and the experience so much that when we came back in August as a family it was at the top of our list. This time we had a party of 5 with our Labrador and the experience was just as good. I had the calabrese pizza which was superb! We also had a margarita pizza with Italian sausage, an artichoke calzone and a roasted pepper pizza followed by cannoli which were divine and made in house. The owners are fantastic; so friendly and personable without being overbearing. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and the pizza dough is made in house and is out of this world. I read a review saying that the pizzas were expensive and the toilet was outside; however I've paid a similar price for pizza at chain restaurants in the past and had the blandest of experiences, in soulless establishments with robotic staff only there for a pay check. At Monellis the staff radiate passion and enthusiasm for their craft which only adds to the experience. The fact that the toilet was outside, tucked around a corner hidden away added to the appeal as my daughter and I played a game finding it. As far as toilets go, this was clean and even had a potted plant in it so no complaints from me. Finally, Monellis is set in the perfect location, just behind the main drag of the sea front, surrounded by quaint and quirky shops. Not a chain store in sight! They don't take bookings but it's so worth hanging around until there is space. Whenever we are next in Hastings Old Town, we will certainly be back. If only there was a Monellis in Milton Keynes!

Seriously the best pizza in the UK. Its not like going out for a pizza it's having a special meal with an atmosphere to match .we absolutely love this place . The food is exceptional .

We visited here Cuz the google review was great. 👍 the owner was very friendly and staff are helpful and kind too. The lady said it’s like homemade pizza. I really like sourdough pizza.I can say this pizza was my favorite and the best ever. Dough was absolutely great. I ordered spicy 🌶️ pizza and Gorgonzola pizza. My husband and I really enjoyed and we don’t want to eat pizza for awhile to remember this pizza tasty 😋 lol 😂 will visit again.

The food is as authentic as the couple who serve it - there is absolutely no compromise on quality! Hands down the best pizza and pistachio gelato the UK has to offer. Monellis is passion personified - one cannot fabricate all the love & craftmanship that so obviously fuels what Frankie and Francesca do. Prepare to step into a space that encapsulates the epitome of hospitality, you'll leave with your stomach and heart equally full.

Perfect!! The staff is absolutely amazing and they make you feel so taken care of. The pizzas are fantastic and crafted with love. Definitely coming back

The best pizza's one can get and great cappuccino (picolo as requested).

This is a great restaurant, small and family run, you can feel the enthusiasm for what they do here as soon as you open the door. The pizzas and breads are delicious, the salad we had a great addition. You might think at 1st glance that it's expensive, It really isn't. You don't need a pizza to yourself at all. We're a family of 5, we had two pizzas, garlic bread and a salad, with a glass of wine and some water lunch was about £65 and we were full. I was happy to tip on top of this, it's a lovely place.
