Fortes Pizzeria in Hastings

Still by far the best pizzas in St. Leonards and Hastings. Pizza is still excellent after I discovered this place when it was much smaller. I relocated and continued to dine here for over 11 years. Atmosphere has changed since Tony handed over, but I would still recommend.

Local to where we are staying for the week...thought we'd give it a try. Family of 4 with two late teenage girls...starters, main and dessert ordered- all lovely and fresh, well presented and plentiful. Food included whitebait, calamari, prawn starters-gnocchi, grilled chicken and steak mains. Desserts delicious too. Restaurant clean, service and assistance very courteous... Reasonably priced food and drinks, definitely recommend if you're looking for something for the whole family...smart casual.

Had a meal for 2 people, no starters, a Pollo Al Funghi and a Lasagne, 2 desserts, 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees for £56. Fantasticly tasty, authentic Italian meal and excellent value. Very filling - we could hardly move when we left! The service was friendly without invading your privacy. It was early evening and so relatively quiet, but can't complain about the lovely table with a view of the sea.

Great pizza and really nice staff

We had two mains of cod marinara & sea bass with vegs and a side dish of a basket of bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil plus a bottle of house red. The fish are tired looking, soggy and taste like leftovers. There are cauliflower, broccoli and carrots coming with the fish. Carrots are undercooked, too hard for my fork to handle. The bread basket is a basket of few pieces of white baguette. The house red is a bottle of South African Shiraz named quickly bird. We are both disappointed and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone else.

Lovely Birthday treat for the hubby. We had travelled down from Surrey today and wandered along the beach. Just wanted a quick dinner. What a lovely place, staff were fabulous, food was delicious and reasonably priced. They even sang happy birthday to him as a surprise. Really thoughtful! Would highly recommend the Calzone and chocolate mousse.

I called and ordered pizza dough to make at home. Not only did they make me fresh dough, but they didn’t even charge me for it. I can’t thank you guys enough. The pizzas came out amazing! Also love the food at the restaurant. Such incredible quality

I visited this fabulous restaurant for the 1st time recently! I'm so glad, because I was very hungry and running out of places and time! Everything was ' spot on'..including service from the two very pleasant genuine waitresses! The food was gorgeous, better than a posh hotel I was staying in! Thanks to all!! See you again! Very sweet authentic Italian on the coast of St Leonard's on Sea. We went Tuesday lunchtime and it was pretty quiet. The calamari to start was perfectly cooked! We opted for 2 pizzas and shared. My way and Giandieria - both were delicious! Recommended!

Popped in to Fortes prior to a show. Wasn’t expecting much but the place was so good needed to leave a review! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. All the staff were chatty and so friendly right down to the Just east staff. Whitebait, carbonara and the nutella pizza were well worth having! Highly recommend.

Quiet meal with some friends. The calazone is IMMENSE... Really nice staff and very reasonably priced good food..

Another great lunch a Fortes. The food is always delicious. Classic home made Italian cooking, made beautifully in a traditional way. I always feel at home/on holiday at the same time when I go there. We had the arancini special, the calamari spaghetti special as well as lovely pizzas. Mario served us and he’s always so amazing and professional. It’s a very warm and welcoming environment and you can tell it’s very popular with locals. The staff are always lovely and you know the the food will always be delicious. Thank you for another lovely experience!

Have visited here three times in the last month and on all occasions we have received a warm welcome and amazing customer service. Food is outstanding our Friends and Family have eaten a wide selection of meals and they have all been perfectly cooked with outstanding flavour. Gluten free pizza is wonderful

I ordered food from here and accidentally messed up my own pizza order by clicking on anchovies instead of artichokes. I phoned them, not realising it was my mistake and when I realised, I accepted that I'd messed up and said sorry and goodbye. The restaurant then called me back and said that they'd make me my order again, free of charge, and the pizza chef called me to check exactly how I wanted my pizza. Honestly, they made my night. It was my mistake and they still replaced my pizza. They've restored my faith in human kindness and I even had a cry down the phone. My family have all enjoyed their pizzas and we'll definitely be eating here again. Thank you lovely, lovely people

Nice and clean restaurant but freezing cold. It felt like there was no heating on. The waitresses make this place. They work hard and are really helpful. The food is very good. We chose the Steak and chips, Pollo Funghi and Cod Marinara. The chef came out to our table and ensured we were ok.

Went with a group of girls friends, we shared pizzas and chatted lots. Very nice.

Overall, I really enjoyed it here. The service was good, the staff showed no surprise at our rather odd group and requirements and it is a great location. I just felt the atmosphere fell between "quiet and intimate" and "buzzing and engaging". Just my $0.02 worth.

Visited saturday night, all around great experience. Would definitely recommend. Food was lovely, service was brilliant!! Me and my partner had both a pizza and pasta to share and loved every second of our experience. Going to book for later on in the year for our anniversary dinner. The waitresses were very welcoming and gave the place a nice environment. 10/10

Have been going to fortes for several years, the owners are lovely and most welcoming, good good too. Unfortunately after our recent visit we will not be returning. None of the owners were visible instead there were 3 young waitresses, they all looked like they wished they were somewhere else. The service was bad, got the feeling they were told to slow things down so you could order more wine. The pizza was bland. Finally we were overcharged on the bill. Shan’t be going back to fortes which is a shame.

Seafood pasta, was 100% not fresh, fresh out a frozen seafood packet maybe, giggling laughing girls bored behind the service desk, just needed Gordon Ramsey to appear and a film crew from kitchen nightmares. 4/10 - never again

My son and I had a wonderful experience at Fortes. Imagine our luck that our Airbnb was one minute’s walk away from one of the best restaurants in Hastings. It is located in St Leonard’s, so away from the bustle and tourists in the Old Town. Fortes has a beautiful, clean decor. The staff are friendly and courteous. The food was perfectly cooked and the portion sizes exactly right. We chose pasta rather than pizza. The penne arabiatta was al dente and the sauce intensely flavoured. The lasagne was delicious. Only one of us had a pudding: the tiramisu was lovely. I recommend Fortes very highly and would definitely return on another visit to Hastings.

After having a lovely meal back in June this year, I have decided to book a table for my partner's birthday surprise. And what a surprise it was. I booked a table for 6 people and we were given a table for 4 people (2 single tables put together so two of us had to sit with our plates unevenly balanced on two tables. Two of us also decided to have a Diet Coca-Cola. But, there was no Coca-Cola in site. What we were given was brown, sweet and flat liquid. Because we didn't want to make a fuss, brown, sweet and flat liquid it was. Starts came: Tempura Prawns. Unfortunately, the prawns were not cleaned properly, they still had poop in them. I did complain this time but was dismissed by the chef that what I'm eating is part of the prawns (no apology). The pizza was not so good either, (Quattro Stagioni), very much lacking in flavour. It was a very warm day and the restaurant was quite hot but no air conditioning was turned on so we were totally roosting. Waitrose tried her best to promote the food and she had a large list of Italian food to memorize, and she did a great job. All in all, we walked away very disappointed and won't be returning anytime soon.

Don’t accommodate for large tables, booked a table for 6 and was squished on a 4 person table. Ordered the tempura prawn special, Prawns arrived with intestinal tract. When mentioned to waitress she said they aren’t prepared on the premise they come in frozen. Dried herbs on a spicy pizza not fresh chillis. Not good traditional Italian.

Food wasnt’t great for the price. The ‘spicy’ pizza just had a handful of dried chillies. The tempura prawns special hadnt been prepared properly, and when asked about it, was told they come in frozen. Also had the worst diet coke i have tasted. Will not be returning here unfortunately.

Food was ok, but the bread was tough. The focaccia was flat, not the typical fluffy focaccia. A bit too expensive for what it is.

Fortes is so good we make a 70 mile round trip to go there. First went in 2015 and last time July 2023. The pizzas are huge and great. Service has always been very friendly. When we first went it was quite small but has expanded into a bright and airy space next door. It's not situated in the rather busy Pelham Place area where a lot of visitors congregate but well worth the walk, or park closer by, to Fortes. You won't be disappointed.

Very good food and service. Not bad value either. I had the Carbonara and my partner had two starters to make up a main course.

I would recommend visiting Forte’s restaurant. This is a regular visit for us as we come back either for lunch or dinner, once a year. They have changed the presentation of the meals. The tempura prawns just delicious, great sweet chilli sauce freshly made! My main was the salmon again presentation wonderful and pink peppercorn sauce lovely! My husband had the steak cooked to order. The staff always attentive and friendly. Great value for money.

The food was fantastic! We ordered starters and mains…then the owner came out to talk with us asking if everything was good, he even gave us a complimentary limoncello!

Always have good food and service here. A reliable good value place to eat.

Went to this restaurant to try the italian food and have definitely had much better italian food. In Hastings for a couple of days and would not recommend this!

Great quality food and really friendly attentive service. The chef clearly enjoys making more than pizza and there were a number of lovely specials on the night we were there. The pizza was excellent too. And whilst the main restaurant isn’t dog friendly they had a more casual area where the mutt was welcome. Strongly recommend a visit

Our first visit here since they expanded, and we were not disappointed! Lovely friendly service. A very tempting specials board. For starters, we went for the deep fried whitebait, plus pasta and cheesy bechamel-filled arancini. These were both great. The pizza mains were wonderful. Great fresh ingredients, beautifully cooked. Possibly the best pizza I’ve had in St Leonards (and I’ve had lots). Glad to see they were very popular with the takeaway and delivery business, but we really enjoyed the warm dining-in welcome. It was a more casual and less expensive experience than a certain other Italian restaurant (which we also love) further west along the prom. We barely had enough room for a dessert, but I valiantly battled on and ordered the ice cream which was a heartwarmingly retro bowl of Neapolitan ice cream. The other, less mainstream puds also looked delicious.

Very mediocre everything. From service to the pizza. The only thing this place has going for them is their seafront location. Shrimp cocktail, pizza and tiramisu were just barely okay. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend.

We ordered a delivery of pizza quatro stagione and a pasta carbonara. The delivery arrived promptly. However, the pizza was a real let down. The dough wasn't thin and the ingredients didn't feel fresh. I expected separate part for each season but everything was mixed and the tuna used was clearly from a tin which hadn't been rinsed very well. The pasta was OK but not the greatest. This was the second time we tried this eatery (we were there last summer) and again we were disappointed.

Cold in temperature. Pizza okay. Poor show by management who wanted to charge me £10 corkage as I needed to bring my own organic red wine as I'm allergic to sulphates/sulphites and they did not sell any.

Most of the food was nice. But from a person who works in the hospitality industry its very unprofessional for a chef to leave his kitchen to try to 'educate a customer' on what a rump steak is. And definitely not to say your rump steak quality is poor and you want to take it off your menu. No check back from waiting staff either.

This is based on one evenings experience. We really enjoyed the meal and service. Was going to go back as they have sausage and chip pizza - which I have a thing about but our short visit in Hastings did allow it. Would go again. I marked a star down on atmosphere as I think lower lighting levels and Italian music would give it a moodier feel.

Excellent authentic Italian restaurant in a great location overlooking the seafront and Warrior Square Gardens. Lots of indoor seating. Good choice of options on the menu. Prices are reasonable and portions good. Staff were also attentive and friendly. Really enjoyed my visit here. Will definitely be back.

The best salmon tagliatelle I've ever had. Staff were so friendly and despite being very busy found us a table will def be back. Price was also amazing x

On Saturday 27th August we booked a table for 6:30pm. A male waiter bent over backwards to help my partner with a special pasta dish (especially for her, it was not on the menu) he was so helpful and polite and the other two waitresses were equally enjoying their jobs and providing exquisite service. The food was just amazing! My pizza was better than prezzos or anyone else. The garlic mushrooms were outstanding and the most delicious I've ever had in my 57 years! The ambience and complete experience I would recommend and go back again. I cannot stress highly enough in these words what a lovely time we both had, thank you, Leigh & Michelle :)

Well, shame of us that not ordering pizza in a pizzeria, but the seabass and pasta are still well prepared and delicious. Their dessert is also worth trying, I personally enjoy their apple pie with ice cream a lot. The apple pie tasted very similar to McDonalds (it's a compliment as McDonalds apple pie is my childhood favourite). Service is friendly as well. Has listed this place as one of my favourite place after the 1st visit. Hopefully to come back again soon to try their pizza!
