Food was not all that hot, small portions, very little communication with staff,no drinks served at table other than water, only one staff member seemed prepared to go out of his way to help us.Most of the hotel staff were gathered together chatting rather than clearing things away when required. It felt like they didn't want to be there - which, being New Years Eve was probably true.

Had corporate meal. Room was a sweatbox with no apparent air conditioning. Food was overcooked.. seemed like it had been kept warm for too long. Room itself was quite spectacular.

The food served at the New Year was very good and plentiful. If I had to be critical it was served a little too quickly with no time between courses but I guess they wanted to get dinner finished before the excellent live band came on. Breakfast was also very good with a great selection.

Tried to book this restaurant as an alternative to the noisy hotel restaurant, understanding it was in the old building. Phoned to book, and was told there was a corporate booking so we would be in the bar. Just as well we checked it out earlier, as we found ‘the bar’ meant back over in the noisy hotel!!! Gave it a miss!

Yet another restaurant that cannot come up with interesting vegetarian meals, watercress risotto (rule out as I am vegan) or vegi burger and chips.... come on chef, vegi meals are cheap to make and there are enough people out there who would chose to eat vegi either because they do not eat animal products or want to make a healthy choice.

Visited this restaurant while in the area for work. Thought the food was very good with the steak cooked exactly how I asked for it. Service with a smile, all staff were very friendly. Great for couples on your own or with big groups. Very reasonable prices aswell. Highly recommend to anyone visiting.

After booking a weekend away staying in a suite at the Walton Hall Hotel, my partner and I looked forward to a nice meal at the most "exclusive" restaurant on site. The food was tasty and cooked well, but what let the evening down was the service. One waiter in particular was very moody, we hardly got a please or thank you and when we ordered a particular wine which was no longer in stock, he proceeded to bring out other wines without explaining that the one we ordered wasn't available. "Which one?" was all he said, holding two random bottles in his hands. After bringing our chosen wine to the table, not once did any of the waiters top up our glasses although every other table with a wine bottle was being served as such. When dining at a restaurant the service is just as important as the meal, you get better service at a McDonalds than here. Poor.

We have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions but this was our first visit since it has changed over to Mercure, therefore there is a certain amount of comparing it to our previous visits last year. Service was a little patchy overall. Some staff discord was also observed in the restaurant. This should be kept out of view of the customers. One table had ice spilled near them and it was just left on the floor to melt and an apology was not heard but the table seemed to just take it in their stead. We received red wine that was cool and the lid was put back on once the glasses had been poured. We had no butter on our table for rolls and had to ask for it and one table had to ask for salt and pepper. Our order was taken efficiently and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Our starters, Goat cheese and beetroot salad and Salmon mousse, were very nice, well presented and tasty though the cheese did out weigh the amount of beetroot . Our mains arrived in good time, Blade of beef and Hake with bubble and squeak. Both dishes were well cooked and had plenty of flavour. Our pudding arrived and were a little disappointing. My wife had ordered the Creme Brulee but it had no crack on the top, it was just sugar sprinkled on and only touched with heat, it was also a mixture of temperatures. My Baileys & Coffee cheesecake had no real flavour to it and the cream had been overbeaten. They were edible but not to the standard of the rest of the meal. A disappointing meal in places but that can be easily rectified to make this restaurant back to the very high standard that i have eaten here before.

We had a terribly disappointing meal for our family of 4 at the restaurant last night - chicken main only included 3 cubes of overlooked chicken swimming in the bland sauce; both daughter ate less than 1/4 of their meals due to poor taste.

I took a family party of 8 to Walton Hall for a special meal. We were not disappointed! Unsurprisingly with such high standards, the restaurant was busy on Saturday night.Nevertheless the Maitre D took the time to describe the intricacies of the menu, each item of which was worth a page to itself. The food was sumptuous and the service impeccable. Do not rush such an enjoyable experience, it is all the better given time to digest.

Our second dining experience wasn't as good as the first. The positive first. We all thought that the quality of ingredients was excellent. The food was well cooked and apart from the sea bass very tasty. The problem was that the hot starters were not hot. We mentioned that to the manager really only to ensure that our mains came out hot. The result was that the plates were piping hot but the food wasn't except the beef cheek. There was some comment regarding drafts in the kitchen. Breakfast was really slow and being critical the poached egg slightly overcooked and the bacon just not right. We loved the hotel but I am afraid would not return on a package again unless the reviews improve dramatically. There is something not quite right regarding the organisation of the restaurant staff and the way the food is prepared in the kitchen. The senior company management really need to look into this as the whole site is superb.

We had a family gathering at the restaurant before our daughter's wedding. It was nice to have everyone together. The food was really tasty, however it took 3 attempts to get the staff to take our drinks order and then that was after the starters had arrived! I wouldn't mind if they were busy but there was only 1 other table occupied!Good food bad service!

Excellent food and staff. Really enjoyed the lamb. The room which was the function room of the old hall and still lit by 3 enormous chandeliers is quite formal, though not overly so. Restaurant tables do fill up quickly so it is advisable to book when checking in.

I completely agree with a previous review which claimed that the restaurant seems to have been designed on a pretence of "Fine Dining 101". The staff are friendly but mostly foreign which was a disappointment as we struggled to understand them somewhat. It must be said that the waiters suits' were very poorly fitting, something I would pick up on if I was manger. The décor in the dining room is fine and one is made to feel quite comfortable. The food itself was not to my pleasing. The servings are interminably small and boring, with little choice. If you are looking to eat and be full afterwards go somewhere else! We left feeling hungry and a little cheated. We ordered a bottle of wine and we were displeased that our glasses were not refilled as I would have expected this in a restaurant which claims to offer a fine dining experience. Overall, the restaurant itself is attractive but the food is a major let-down.

My wife and I recently stayed at Walton Hall for our 10th wedding anniversary, with a package that included a 3-course evening meal in the Moncrieffe Restaurant.Overall this restaurant felt like it had been put together from a manual - "fine dining 101" - but only after a quick skim-read by the manager of a Happy Eater. A very superficial look around the door might have you think it was delivering a great fine dining experience, but look a bit closer and it was far off the mark.In no particular order:Our wine glasses were filled almost to the brim, which gave our (very good) white time to warm up. Then our glasses were never re-filled, which in a restaurant at this level I would automatically assume. My starter - a rather good terrine - came with the smallest corner of toast I have ever seen, resulting in my asking the waiter for an extra bread roll. This then tripped off a comedy sketch where every five minutes he would return and try to press more rolls onto me.My main - a nicely cooked sea bream - was absolutely tiny - I finished it in 4 small bites. It was like a pastiche of nouvelle cuisine from the late 80's. I do not believe "more is better" in meals, but I do like to have enough food to make the dining experience last, and feel the chef isn't trying to save money. My dessert - artisan cheeses which were otherwise pretty good - had the slices of cheese piled on top of each other, so the blue cheese flavour impregnated all the others. Finally, when we finished and asked for a bill to sign, the waiter completely forgot and we were left sitting around. We also had breakfast in this restaurant the next day, which to our dismay was an average quality buffet which was continuously running out of the cooked breakfast items, and when they did arrive there was a scrum of diners going for the last egg. The waiters were also harassed and the minute you got in front of one they would impatiently excuse themselves and push past. These points may sound fussy to some, and to be fair the food was good quality and the dining room lovely, but when you pay the best part of £300 for one night, you expect the dining experience to be flawless and polished - both the service and the food. This felt more like somebody's hazy idea of what fine dining should be, and they need to fine-tune the service and realise that tiny portions are not in fashion any more.

We booked this for a special occasion but this was a terrible mistake - the prices are expensive - very expensive which is fine when you order as you expect food to be of high quality - They market it is high quality the staff don't understand basic restaurant etiquette and you have to pour your own wine which when you pay £25 for a very small cold piece of beef with two squirts of mash potato is not good - we had to send all the food back as they were all cold - only positive was the friendly manager - I would suggest that you give this place a miss as it is one of the worst restaurants I gave ever been to

Recently booked into this hotel to be reasonably close to a conference centre the folowing day.decided to use the restaurant in the main Old hotel part. al la carte looked nice shellfish bisque and fillet of beef on offer. prices were above what I would pay in a southern reasonable class restaurant. the bisque arrived on one of these large plates with a small well in the middle with the best part of three good soup spoon of soup.Fillet was sliced so difficult to see really what had got my guess was fillett end. no vegetables so to speak and none offered. cost for two courses around 37 / 38 pounds. satisfaction around £10.00Lovely hotel, beautiful grounds. but go out to eat and feel like you have had a meal.

We have visited this hotel in its many incarnations over the years but to see it in such a sorry state was very sad. We simply wanted afternoon tea. There were two other customers in the bar and conservatory. Our first waiter went to look for a menu, he never returned, 15 mins later We hadn't been able to find a waiter so went to reception, no response but the receptionist did make a call, I assumed to the floor staff??? Then a waiter appeared, we asked if we could make an order (nearly 30 mins in) but a fourth customer had arrived and asked for service at the same time, she chose to ignore us. It won't surprise you to learn we went elsewhere! For our review of the place we enjoyed tea look at Charingworth Manor.

Just awful, new owners have taken over, let’s be honest this is a takeaway with seats. The atmosphere is as about exciting as the heat in the building, ie none, I went to the gents and thought I have started vaping before I realised it was just my breath misting up. First dinner I have eaten with my jacket on, obviously being run on the remains of a shoe string…..The one waiter lacked both personality and professionalism in equal measure, he mumbled something about being on his own, I didn’t listen because I genuinely stopped caring. On the upside the new owners won’t be there for long at this rate so the experince will be short lived. It’s times like this that you miss Cam and No72 in bidford, now that is how you run a good restaurant. If you have the choice of going here or M&S for a ready meal, you stand a better chance of getting more engagement and customer experince out of an inanimate chiller in M&S than you do in this place…. PS bring you our heater for heat and layer up!!!

Amazing place for takeaway. Food is always delicious, hot when it arrives and generous portions. Staff are friendly and always helpful with any issues if they arise. We use them as our only takeaway now as they are the best in Stratford. The delivery guy is amazing as well.. Always friendly and polite so thank you very much. Sorry don't know your name lol

Absolute clart on. Went in for breakfast and waited 20 minutes from putting in the order to getting the food. Several staff were stood around watching orders where the food had already been cooked, whilst the staff member doing drinks seemed to be on top of things, except it meant my cappuccino sat there for the full 20 minutes, meaning it was both lukewarm and froth free. The wrap looked like it had been put together by a dyspraxic five year old and fell apart as soon as it came out of the box.

Staff go through the motions (although no one checked our meal was ok) but no more. Chicken a bit dry and the chips tasted stale. Garlic bread good though. Very quiet.
