Mon Korea in Birmingham

Went today. Place doesn't look brilliant on the inside but it is super clean and food was delicious. Portion sizes were good value for money. Will be back!

Mon-Korea is the definition of a hidden gem. The food is unbelievably good. The lunch special is also ridiculously good value.

Mon Korea is a gem of a find. Quaint little place making fresh and authentic Korean food. Portion sizes are very generous and the food comes out within 10 minutes! Perfect for a weekday lunchtime take out too. Always packed which is a good sign.

Update on this family run fantastic restaurant and take-away. Prices have risen everywhere but not as much as you would expect here. Quality food, prepared mastefully and served with a smile.

It’s the second time eating not fresh stuff from this restaurant. Last time was beef and this time was chicken… obviously not fresh and smell bad… won’t order again.

Generous portions, all foods were served quickly and piping hot. The sauce goes very well with the seafood pancake and shrimp tempura. The takoyaki balls were also decent, was expecting teriyaki sauce but the mayo also works. Only downside is that it was only accepting cash when we visited.

Food was still hot when delivered. Excellent Korean Fried Chicken. Bok sum was delicious too Heamul Pa Jeon was tasty!

Randomly stumbled across this place and was totally blown away by the food. The hotpots were absolutely delicious and the service was very fast and efficient. Will definitely be coming back here if I’m in the area

Absolutely amazing food, we went 3 or 4 times before they closed for their holidays. Very affordable and delicious. They have vegetarian and vegan friendly options, which are great.

It's the second time we're going to eat lunch and we can say is the best Korean restaurant in Birmingham. We're been in all Korean restaurants in the city centre and there's no comparison. The sizes for price are really good. If you can give it a go you will repeat in the future.

The stone pot rice is actually on the plate, and the rice is warm, not spicy at all, which is very unappetizing. The food tastes average, I won't be going back.

The food is good and the price is reasonable.

Okay so we love trying new places and thought why not. Starter came out banging Lovely wings and the other half had king prawns. Main came out while we was still eating like it was a rushed thing and mains was just standard maybe even a step under which is sad. Us and another couple in the place so basically empty and still it was hard to get service. And after all that and trying to get noticed the bill was very expensive for what we got. So sorry guys but not good enough in my books with how many places there is to choose from these days.

First time ive eaten Korean food and it was nice. Recommended and will be visiting again.

The most authentic Korean yet in Birmingham, and rhis is coming from a Korean living near Birmingham. Kudos to the chef and rhe service lady, both were spot on.

This has become our favourite restaurant in Kings Heath. The sizzling bibimbap (pictured) and ramen are favourites but we’ve tried a number of dishes - all very nice. Well priced £11-14 for most main dishes, and food is served quickly, nice people. Great takeaway option too (if local)

First time eating here after being recommended by a family member, and I will definitely be back! The food was very well priced for how much you get, and tasted amazing. I cook Korean dishes at home often and my spicy seafood ramen was so rich in flavour, well balanced and packed with seafood. The chicken wings were also delicious. I love honey butter garlic chicken, and this one is probably the best I've tasted yet! Flavourful, crispy and piping hot! Overall loved the food and will be back soon to try more 😊

We have eaten here twice in the past few weeks, we love the food so much! The restaurant is relaxed and the hosts are very friendly and accommodating. the food is authentic, full of flavour and the portions are generous. 10/10 can't wait to come back!

The food here packs a punch, very delicious and fresh tasting. The menu is great and has something for everyone .The prices are affordable as well. I can’t wait to go back

Their meal price is quite resonable. However the female shop owner is really BAD service and RUDE. They won't welcome you when you enter the shop and not wiling to provide you a seat at all. She felt unhappy when you use credit card to pay the meal. Won't go there again!

We've eaten here many times, and had takeaways too. Every single time the food and service have been wonderful. It's our favourite place to eat. Brilliant variety, and quality of food.

Don’t bother. Unfriendly, unwelcoming and unprofessional, I didn’t even get as far as ordering food. I was told that I would have to pay cash, because the card machine was broken, for some reason; I guess because of the unwelcoming atmosphere on entering the restaurant and the unfriendly demeanour of the person behind the till when I went to place my order; I was not convinced it was true. Having looked through some of the other reviews it’s seems my instinct was correct and who gets to pay with their card and who they demand only cash payments from depends on whim or whatever dodgy criteria they have. Just an all round disappointing and unpleasant experience.

My partner loved his beef ramen, but I was sadly disappointed in my spicy chicken ramen. The pieces of chicken were hard and rubbery, and the majority of it were gristly offcuts. The spice level was perfect, but I just couldn't eat the chicken. The buttered honey wings and breast pieces were nice though, if swamped by a bit too much soy. So much so it had flooded the carrier bag and leaked everywhere. I doubt I will order again from here, which is a shame.

Everything I've ever eaten here has been delicious and great value for money, though I've only ever eaten the vegetarian options. The place is popular, but so far, we've always been able to get a table. Most of the clientele look Korean or otherwise of East Asian ethnic origin, so if they choose to eat here, it must be good and authentic!

Apparently they cannot swap the 'cola' drink on the set menu to diet cola (daughter is diabetic) and will only take cash for the lunch menu despite having a swipe card machine near the till. Not good.

Great casual dining or lunch option. Food is amazing and comes quickly. The portion sizes are generous and well priced. It’s well located just off the Kings Heath high street. At lunchtimes there’s a meal deal special which is especially good value.

The food is good, we ordered a lunch set, kid's meal and other courses like spicy chicken ramen and a mochi is dessert for 5 people, and we only spent 52.95 which is really cheap, definitely recommended.

Terrible service. Ordered food worth £30. Didn’t get the right food, restaurant were not helpful at all and very rude. Refused to offer any solutions to resolve the situation.

We went there on Saturday afternoon. Restaurant was almost full. A kind lady moved to another table for accommodating us to sit together, she even collected dirty plates for us, we thought that she may work there but it is not, she is just a random customer. Food was yummy, big portion and authentic. Even tho a lot of orders during our visit, food were served without a long wait. Prices are reasonable too. We parked at Institute Road Car Park, as shop is located in Kings Heath high street. When we get the bill, we were told "cash only". Funny that the previous customer who was a local family paid their bill by card.

I've tried many Korean restaurants in Birmingham but this has to be my number one! The food is absolutely divine, the portions are generous and the hospitality is top tier. I have dined in when near the area but I mainly takeout as I live too far away for delivery so I just order via their website and pick up food when I fancy tasty and hearty Korean food. The chef is amazing and as long as he works there I will continue to keep coming.

Delicious food, well presented in pottery bowls. If you don't want your food too spicy, they will tell you which dishes to choose. Nearly all dishes had a tofu option so great for vegetarians.

Black list this shop, never go again 😡 The shop very smelly with cooking stink. I think the lady is the shop owner who is very rude, we have not yet finished the food and asked us to go, maybe she saw us spent some time to chitchat and not finish the food. At last, when we asked to check the bill, the lady asked us must pay by cash, but we saw the local people paid by contactless just in front of us! The lady repeatedly asked us to pay by cash! it is ridiculous!!! I told her why we must to pay cash, it is because we are Asian, the local people is white, she said YES🤬🤬🤬

Nice little Korean restaurant with excellent food (good portions too),. The only issue I felt was that it was cold in the place due to the front door leaving a lot of draft coming through.

Really impressed. Lovely food and they don't scrimp on the portions either...there was too much for me and they were fine with boxing it up to take home. Don't expect fine dining, this is a fairly basic cafe style place. An awful lot of unusual items on the menu. Don't serve alcohol which is fine by me. Oh yeah...bargain prices as well! Well done, I'll be back!

We had the bbq chicken wings to start and then the house special bimimbap. All of it was really tasty and amazing portion size. Affordable and didn't take too long to come out. Definitely reccomend

Poor quality food with extremely rude staff went with work colleagues had bibimbap rice with chicken, kimchi and soup tasted like sh1t, the chef was really rude and there was a blonde woman who was unhygienic, had dirty hands and made us feel uncomfortable never ever have I had such a unpleasant experience will not recommend

Ordered a lunch set menu at £8.5 which includes a fried rice, kimchi, misu soup and soft drink, very tasty and reasonably priced. Rcommend to everyone who interested in Korean food, and will definitely come again.

Lovely lunch experience. The staff were friendly, the food was delicious - just look at that cheese pull! Only fault could be there wasn't as many rice cakes in the Tteokbokki as I would have liked. I highly recommended the citron honey tea!

Great food, fair price, would 100% recommend

We went for early lunch on Saturday, had the bibimbap and dolsot bibimbap. Both served with miso soup which was delicious, as were the main dishes. Lovely crisped up rice at the bottom of the dolsot bibimbap, the egg was perfectly cooked and the spicy sauce was just right. The portions were very generous, the service was very quick and friendly and it was good value. Will definitely be coming again and trying more dishes.

I was so disappointed, service in seating us was poor, the server was then very rude in dealing with a complaint at the table next door which didn’t sit right with me and then after 15 mins of waiting to order, after other tables seated after us had ordered we decided instead to leave hungry and very disappointed. Food looked good at the other tables but I couldn’t get past the appalling service.

“Experience the taste of Korea” This place is as authentic as Taco Bell is to real Mexican food! The food was average at best, however most of the menu items weren’t available especially on a Friday night, fine we can let that slide but the bigger issue was the waiter / owner seemed disinterested and was quite rude when serving us, and separately when we went to pay for our food she over charged us until we questioned the amount and when we used our contactless it crashed the payment device and we were told we may have to pay for a new card machine, if a restart of the device didn’t work? Don’t think she may have understood that the issue may have been with the payment device? Anyway do not recommend, if you want decent Korean food go to Cocobab or Kimchi, better food and much better service.

We visited the Mon Korea on Thursday, we walked in and was seated straight away the service was very good, a nice selection of food on the menu to choose.After we ordered we didn't wait long for the food and it was great really tasty and fresh and quality at reasonable prices. We will certainly visit again.

So myself and my daughter are recently learning more about Korean culture/food etc and we 💙 it. We went for an evening meal. It's a small family business. The food is AMAZING. So much better than posh restaurants I've been too. Its kind of no fuss, quick service. Starters and meal came to about 18 pounds per person. The chicken is halal. So glad this has opened locally. Will be going again ☺️ 😋

Humble, happy and honest food. Mon Korea is like a silk glove, comfortable and light. The staff member was all smiles as I entered. In a much relaxed fashion, he asked me to sit anywhere I wished, which was refreshing. He guided me through the vegan menu options, prepared my dishes, chatted and smiled as he battled with the card machine. The food quality was better than expected. The pancakes had wonderful textures, crisp on the outside, doughy within. The Japache Tofu main had subtle Smokey notes. The glass noodles slid effortlessly down the throat. The price of food was good, 2 starters and a main, less than £30.

Good portion, high quality food would order a delivery again for sure.

Tasty food, not a typical Korean taste, it’s combination of Korean and Mongolian flavour. We enjoyed the pancakes and tofu soup very much!

Going into this, my partner and I were skeptical. We aren’t the biggest fans of East Asian food but we wanted to try! I personally quite enjoy authentic Chinese food, so I am not wholly adverse to the idea of let’s say “unusual” foods, from a Western perspective. Unfortunately this was bitterly disappointing bordering on disgusting. I hate to say it. I love supporting small independent restaurants. The various “meats” in the Korean BBQ were dry, leathery, tough, and tasteless, with occasional thick rinds of fat on some pieces. Small bowls of steamed rice came with the barbecue, unfortunately exacerbating the dryness of the dish. The bbq also came with some side dishes such as a bowl of lettuce leaves, two fiery tofu broths - bland, unseasoned lumps of tofu, so soggy they began to disintegrate like mush. It was disappointing to say the least. It was a basic café style restaurant, which was okay, but it was freezing cold with a door that doesn’t shut properly (so it kept blowing a gale). We sat in our coats and scarves for the meal, like hobos at a soup kitchen. They only stock a very limited range of cold drinks, are not licensed to sell alcohol (which might have helped embitter us against the cold). Overall it was disappointing. We won’t be returning and we wouldn’t recommend trying this restaurant unless you are a hardcore fan of mediocre, bordering on inedible, food.
