Molen's sandwich bar in Epping Forest

Eggs were sent back as not soft but completely undercooked. I explained I liked them medium and they cooked them again and one was fine but the other one was undercooked again. I explained that I was in a rush and did not want them cooked a 3rd time. They said the eggs were poached soft, I explained I did not request this. They still insisted on charging me full price for a half eaten undercooked breakfast. Moles used to be so nice I will not be returning.

I recently ordered 60 rounds of sandwiches for my father’s funeral. They were delivered on time and were all absolutely delicious. Everyone was asking where they had come from. They were streets ahead of supermarket sandwiches. Thank you very much indeed.

Love love love Molens, staff are fantastic, food is always delicious. They also have a takeaway service, the seafood and salad bap with mayo is my favourite and made huge and so fresh. A must visit.

I visited here with my husband and 2 young children 3&5. I had a large breakfast which was titled “the hangover” £17 and comes with a single sausage. If ordering a large breakfast 2 sausages should be standard. I ordered my kids 2 sausages each & some mushrooms and scrambled egg to share since they won’t eat much else. My husband had eggs Benedict, only drinks were an orange juice, the bill was £60. When I took a closer look the sausages where £3 a piece! So that was £12 just on 2 sausages for each of my two children. I mentioned to my sibling who also said she was stung here a few weeks prior and would not be returning. Sadly greed will be your downfall.

Have been here a couple of times for brunch, it was busy but the staff do seem to have good systems in place to serve you quickly, once you are seated. As a change I tried the vegetarian breakfast and I was impressed as well as being full. Yes there is a service charge but this is becoming the norm in the south east. We will be back when next in the area,

I love this place The staff are friendly and very efficient and if you happen to go on the days that Joseph is working you will get an extremely warm welcome he's so friendly and great to chat to

First time here! Greeted at the door and shown to our seats. The menu was great, lots of choice. We ordered a bacon and egg sandwich and it was one of the best we’ve ever had. Coffee was great and the staff were all very friendly. Great value for money 👍🏻 Definitely worth visiting.

Very overpriced. A standard breakfast with 1 egg, 2 bacon (cheap not cooked properly) 1 tiny sausauge and not both but only a choice between beans or tomatoe you will be set back £8.50 and each extra will cost you in the region of £1.50 to £2, you do not get a drink with the breakfast which you think you would at that price. Drinks range from £3 - £5 so in all a crappy breakfast with will cost you £15 and you won't enjoy it because the staff aren't friendly they don't even want to hand out sugar for tea and only give out 1 packet of ketchup at a time. Then to top it all they will add service charge to your bill. Not happy at all with this place they only get away with it because there is no other cafe in Loughton high roadYou do get toast though isn't that lovely. Toast with barely anything else to eat it with. And a nice bowl to tip your beans out of. That's what you're paying for. Fancy plates

Visited on Saturday lunch time. Good choice of food and drinks. Service and food was good but found it expensive for we actually ordered. They now automatically add on service charge.

Me and my family visited for the first time and was really impressed with the service we received we haven’t eaten out because of the covid situation but we all felt completely relaxed. We saw the staff cleaning properly the tables and chairs and was all wearing masks. And to top it off the food was amazing and the service I think we have found our new regular business to support in this current pandemic

Not much social distancing going on in here... same as it ever was and very busy. Table next to us was just wiped over with a cloth that had been taken from nearby sideboard - no spray used, and seats not wiped... cloth tossed back into sideboard too - not rinsed out etcetera. Very hot inside & had to ask waitress to switch aircon on. No NHS COVID app to check in & no tel. Nos. Taken either... Breakfast nice enough but due to matters highlighted I shall avoid for the time being.. unless you can sort this out Molens?

We went here for brunch today. They are set up so that as they type your orders into a tablet, the food is immediately being prepped in the kitchen. This means that you have hardly sat down when your food arrives. I am sure this is advantageous if you are in a rush but means you are also in and out very quickly so they keep turning tables. This was my second visit, I was not overly impressed the first time as our food was luke warm but gave them a second chance (there wont be a third). My wife had mushrooms on toast which she said was nice (lucky her). I paid £5.90 for 4 eggs scrambled on toast. What arrived was tasteless, overcooked, unseasoned eggs that had clearly been made in a microwave. They must have been very small eggs if there were really 4 of them and were not even hot (how can that be considering how fast they arrive at the table). I couldn’t be bothered to complain just made a mental note not to come back. There are plenty of alternatives in the high st.

Molens appeared to be a nice change for us to take a pleasant lunch on the last day of the Eat out to help deal. We realised that it would be a little busy but were showed to the rear of the suprisingly large restaurant to a table for two. This area is within a large conservatory style extension with nice views of the rear garden. We noted that the menu was pretty comprehensive and a good choice offered. However time went by and not one member of staff came to our table to take our drinks order and indeed no food order either. It was particularly annoying that there were a reasonable amount of staff serving customers . After twenty minutes without any service we decided to leave ...............not good enough Molens

We Normally like it there. On this occasion it was Monday so eat out to help out. Unfortunately they decided to give us a service charge on top of £5.32. The original bill for two wraps two colas and two coffees was over £35. We ended up paying £17.50 because of the deal. I’ve not noticed a service charge Before and in a sandwich bar

Went here with my parents for brunch. Prior to Covid pandemic, this had been one of their favourite eateries and they were keen to revisit. Place was popular with all the outside tables occupied and several occupied inside. Food was good with a decent range of breakfast and brunch items.

After reopening, I’m delighted to sat that the food and service remain at the excellent high standard.

Great wee spot for lunch, good portions aswell, and its not often you can say this in London but i didn’t feel like i was overpaying for anything! Will definitely be back, quick service too!

I had to review again as first time we have eaten out since lock down restrictions have eased. Molens you got this spot on, hand sanitised on entry and name and phone number taken. Sensible spaced tables and a wonderful greeting back.All the staff were calm and friendly, and as usual with Molens food was spot on.well done to you Molens, you've got it just right for the current climate and you deserve every success.

The food is really expensive for what you’re getting. The service was slow and wasn’t the friendliest or staff. However the food is delicious but not worth the money you are paying. The picture uploaded is the Molens breakfast and costs £8.50 what a rip off! Certainly will not be returning...

You can’t have a ‘bad Molens’ experience. We’ve only been living locally for 5 months, and each time (breakfast, brunch or late lunch) has been great. Really good coffee and fresh teas, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the kitchen work incredibly hard to turn orders round quickly - never had a mess up with an order. And if we do, I’m confident the team would sort out quickly.

Popped in here for lunch. Fabulous , quick and friendly service. Good varied menu. We had the chicken shish kebab, chicken Rella and bangers and mash. All our food was delicious and the portions were generous. Would definitely return if we were in the area.

Popped in for brunch with a party of 6. I can't praise this eatery enough; the decor is fresh, the service is excellent and the food is in a league of its own. It's just a shame that we live at the other end of the country. Superb

This is my family's favourite place to eat. The food is delicious, service is quick and our children are always fussed over - which they love. The breakfast is tasty but my favourite is their caesar salad as the chicken is really tasty! A normal white coffee is creamy and smooth and is one of the best in the area! The place is often busy and staff are always honest about any wait times. It is a real shame that they cannot get the permission sorted for the rear garden as I bet it would be lovely out there in the Summer!

Popped in for a breakfast with family. Everything was as expected - perfectly formed breakfast. Coffee was a little on the weak side. But soy was fab. Staff were very friendly and prices were ok.

Love it here but it can get very busy! The staff are always keen to accommodate you though. I love the wraps and fresh juices and the food is always good value.

Rude staff spent more time posing than serving, incorrect charging - do check your bill, average quality food delivered cold.

For £14 you would at least expect real meat. Spam is not salt beef - don’t waste your time. Staff are very friendly - clean Smoothies ok - wouldn’t get again Food is average.

I always love going to Molen's Brasserie, and my last visit was no exception.

A good menu for brunch or lunch. Plenty of options for smoothies and hot drinks too. Hearty portions, especially on the main menu. The salads are immense. The service is very attentive, from the moment you arrive. Nothing is spectacular but everything is as good as it can be. My girlfriend and I are there at least monthly.

I must be one of the only people in Loughton who is not a fan of Molens, judging by the queues. Food is very average, much better eating establishments in the High road at similar prices. Maybe they should cut down the menu and concentrate on serving better food, they haven't just thrown onto a plate.

An order was declined because they did not want us using just eat! Instead of calling us to inform us of this, they waited until we realised and called them. On the phone they were extremely rude and said we have told you not to use Justeat before. They were incredibly slow, the food was average, and somes people was missing items.would not use again.

We had planned an impulsive Sunday lunch but our usual destination was closed. We continued along the High Road and almost stumbled upon Molen's. What a happy discovery for us, but not the many other diners. A pleasant, if noisy, atmosphere, delightful food, freshly crushed fruit juice, and good, unobtrusive service. Definitely worth visiting and, for us, returning. More than a cafe but it is possible to dine there from the extensive menu without exceeding moderate cost.

This is probably the best cafe/ bistro in the area with a wide range of snack and meals their salt beef sandwich with all the trimmings is superb and their cappuccino is truly wonderful excellent service and a fast turnaround well worth going

I visited Molens with my sister this weekend. she has mobility problems. She is in a wheel chair. Each time i have been there, the guy on the door has gone out of his way to sit us down without fuss. He's a real gent and delivers great service. The rest of the team and also really good. We really enjoyed the food. - Mediterranean breakfast is great. i can really recommend this place.

First time at this cafe/restaurant and very much enjoyed our morning here! It was Sunday and packed, always a good sign! We were looking to have a nice breakfast somewhere. Lovely, immaculately clean place with great decor and at the rear of restaurant, a nice view over a lawn. Menu choice is vast, so this place looks just as good for brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails! Great choice of milkshakes too! My daughter and I had poached eggs on sourdough toast with avocado and chilli flakes (wasn’t hot spicy at all, but if you’re worried I’m sure you could leave them out). My eldest daughter had a full English, looked delicious. My grand-daughter has a bacon and egg baguette, which was plentiful! Everything was delicious, and all the dishes I watched being served looked very appetising too! It’s not cheap eats but not too expensive either. I’d say approx £10-12 per person including a drink eg tea/coffee/milkshake. Our bill was £46 for 4 . Overall I would definitely return!

My friends and I visited Molens for Brunch yesterday and for a large party of 14, Joseph the guy at the door managed to seat us together . Food and service was great as ever. Joseph is very attentive and charms his customers, making them feel right at home!

I was seated right away to a beautiful table by Joseph and he was so kind and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for him! All staff emerge great too. Food was delicious and I would recommend to everyone fantastic family atmosphere and kind staff

Visited with three other adults and three babies (two or under). Shown promptly to a table and our pushchairs suitably stowed. The order was taken in good time and we made it clear that two of the kids were sharing a pasta meal. This was fine for the waiter. Unfortunately that meal was forgotten and then the wrong pasta delivered. By this time, the kids were starving, so they ate the adults meals. By the time the correct pasta was delivered, it was too late.

My first visit but it definitely won't be the last. Generous portions, friendly service and resonable prices too.

My Daughter and Grandchildren came here for the children to have a dinner after a lovely time at Loughton park, after School. We have been many times for Lunch and is always so lovely, food is freshly cooked and always yummy. So it was a nice surprise that it was after the busy time ... and was so relaxing. Staff friendly helpful and professional. And it’s a perfect for families as you get a lovely feeling of welcome as you walk in.. so happy it’s the same as it’s been since opening.. high standard. The owner or owners must be so proud of their Restaurant and Staff.

Visited this morning, had to wait 30 minutes to be served even though place was empty, not the first time this has happened. Ended up walking out, the staff are snooty and rude, you get the impression they’re doing you a favour by serving you, I would not recommend

This is my third time here, always received great service and food. On leaving one of the staff even came to say goodbye as we were getting into our car. Looking forward to our next visit.

Foods alright but staff have a bit of an attitude, it is a privilege to have customers spend money in your establishment not a right. The waitress demeanour made us feel unwanted.

Visited Zest Salad Bar which is owned by Molens I believe and across the road. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Rude staff. Asked for chilli flakes on my salad - waitress put too much on. I asked if I could take another salad as I couldn’t eat that amount of chilli and was told NO sorry “you watched me put it on”. Lots of other people complaining about their food while I sat watching my husband eat his.

Far better than The Standard in Loughton! Molens is always welcoming, service is fast and the food is always lovely. They welcome kids too which is nice. Defo worth a visit

We used to come here years ago and always enjoyed it but since the change in ownership we feel it has gone downhill unfortunately. The attitude is not what you would hope for, especially for people with prams/buggies.

Visited Molens yesterday evening and enjoyed a lovely meal. My friend and I both had the grilled chicken shish and we both thoroughly enjoyed it and will return. Staff very helpful and friendly.

I got a call at work today from my two children insisting I did a review as they had a great time having breakfast at Molens, they said the sausages and bacon were the best, not fatty at all and very tasty, and they loved the OJ. They will certainly be going back and taking mummy with them!

Laid back cafe with a superb selection on their menu. Piri Piri chicken wrap is a must. Waiters are friendly and obliging and more than willing to tweak the menu to suit you. This is my favourite lunch spot in Loughton!

Molen's have been in Loughton for as long as we can remember. It has always been known for good food and service. Our last visit with friends did not disappoint! We were met at the door as usual and welcomed inside and shown to a table. Service was exactly what we have come to expect, well-timed and pleasant.. Our food was excellent, the atmosphere lively. A very good experience for Sunday morning brunch with friends. We would recommend for breakfast and lunch having tried both.

To be honest I have eaten better in my local greasy cafe for a lot less money. Food is way overpriced for what you get wont be returning

today I went with friend to molens have been before and ued to dinning out most of the time.if it was not for joseph the front of house manager(I presume) I would have walked out lucky you have someonelike this waiter came over ordered 2 salt beef sandwiches and 2 portions of fries etc and drinks and told him salad on side etc he then went to the 2 youngboys took there order and walked away ther fries had come b4 ours when food came just sandwiches mine with salad in still waiting for fries etc and mayo etc joseph saw me take ot all salad etc and replaced my order he was quick off the mark. then when my order came back they put salt beef on the plate bread and salad seperates I hadto make it my self. MOLEENS get your staff in order not 3 or 4 serving our table who don't no what each other is doing it was very quite there this afternoon then another bowl of chips arrived which we did not order as I said the staff just talk amongst thereselves get more staff like jOSEPH I wont be returning

Given table quickly but then waited 10 mins for order to be taken even though not busy. Staff seemed to be more interested in huddling together chatting. Took order while staring out window - so rude. So e of the staff had no idea at all. First and last visit.

It is the first time I have come to this cafe and as soon as I walked in the door I was not impressed. When we was choosing our food they kept coming up to us asking what we wanted and when we said we are not ready yet and they walked off and started shaking their heard in a very rude manner and started to gossip with other staff. When the food arrived I was also not impressed the tuna wrap didn’t taste right and was different temperatures throughout, when we asked if it was possible to change our food they said no we need to pay for that then we can buy another meal, they didn’t even acknowledge what we was saying and said that we make hundreds a day and no one else seems to complain, this came across very rude and disrespectful. As we were looking to choose another meal all staff members kept and staring and grinning at us and continued to make sly comments to each other.

I came in and they kept on bugging me about what I wanted and when I told them for the 3rd time I’m the space of 10 mins that I didn’t know all waiters started having a social meeting about me. When I finally did want to order they took forever and I then ask to change my food as it was hot on the outside but freezing cold on the inside they got in my face and said “I don’t know why your complaining I sell 100s of these a day and no one complains so I am making you pay full price and I can now order something else for wasting my time” they then carried on to give me dirty looks and sniggers whilst I was sitting in there making me feel very awkward and wanting to leave. This was my first visit and last!

I went their on a Sunday and i ordered Spaghetti with Salmon it was nice and a generous amount and with Parmerson cheese it was nice. I had pancake with banana and i did not want chocolate Nuttela on it and they allow me not to have it but i wanted cream on it they were good they accommadate it for me.It was also a good amount thanks .

I’ve been in here many times but not lately as I had a bad experience with a chicken burger ,so I thought I’d give them another shout ...wish I hadn’t bothered,I had a cheese omelette with a cheap sausage and 2 bits of over cooked bacon and two black coffees and it came to £13.47 well overpriced and very mediocre ,I asked for mustard and the server failed to bring it to me,I won’t bother ever again ,poor effort

Become more of a restaurant. We know things have to change for a business to survive, Food is great. and choose to not pay a fortune for a soft drink on top. Used to use this place everyday. Do not use now.

This is my second visit here, food is very good, but the service is dire, plenty of staff visible, they do not give any eye contact to customers, no smiles, long delay waiting to order. And again long delay trying to get their eye contact for the bill.

My husband & I popped in for lunch, we hadn’t been in since it had expanded but we thought we’d give it a try, we were really pleased that we did, the service was quick, the waiter was polite & friendly & it was a buzzing with people coming & goigoing, the menu was quite varied & being a veggie I had a few options , when the food arrived it was plentiful in fact my husbands plate was enormous, sausage mash onions & a good selection of veg, we didn’t have desert as we were full but my husband is determined to go back to have his apple pie & custard, really worth a visit.

When the with my daughter an wife I had lentil soup it was so hot it burnt my mouth it was microwave it was as hot as a volcano when I complained he said that's how customers like it he was very rude avoid at all costs and there are getting there bagels Frome Sainsbury's very cheap and nasty

Been reading other reviews here and I don't know why people are saying bad things . Been coming here for a while and feel it's a great meeting place, whether it's family, girlfriends or coffee with a colleague. The menu is large and varied and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Large food portions and always hot and freshly cooked

We had heard a lot of good things about the breakfast menu so we decided to give it a try. Ended up being disappointed. The prices are decent though the food is very basic. Nothing exciting or worth of praise.

If ever you're in Loughton & fancy a cuppa & eats pop in to Molens for lunch. Waiters are attentive & nothing to much bother. Myself & my hubby ordered a jacket potatoe with filling. I kid you not they were the size of my shoes! Cooked to perfection. Be prepared for it being busy, we went in Saturday at 13:30, customers were hanging out of the door waiting to be seated.

Went in for lunch staff uninterested in our order more concerned about missing out any gossip with other staff members. It has the feel of a private social club unfriendly uninterested staff.the food was basic and not worth the price .will never return far better places to dine close by

Discovered this little gem thanks to a friend, who invited me to a breakfast meet up. Clean, tidy, lovely little place. Very welcoming, helpful & professional staff. The menu is very diverse and can easily accommodate all tastes. The omelette was lovely and fluffy, just cooked to perfection with the right amount of cheese and vegetables. The brioche french toast withSyrup was lovely, gooey and soft with a perfect sized helping of fruit. Reasonably priced. One of the few small local Resturant that seem to have bothered to spend money on good quality crockery or most places have the cheap white porcelain stuff. Staff couldn't be nicer and more helpful....! Will definitely come back.

Very disappointed with my lunch. The meat had such a cheap texture so processed, tasted more like spam. Not sure how they think serving this is acceptable. The chips are frozen. My coffee was white! I had to send back. That's practically everything we ordered!

Popped into molen at lunchtime for a sandwich which I had pre ordered a few minutes before. It wasn't done when we got there, so we waited and watched it being prepared.They were preparing a prawn baguette for someone before us, wearing a disposable glove which you would expect but after touching the prawns with the glove, then proceeded to make my ham roll without changing it, whoa........ was a bit shocked to,say the least. I have an intolerance to prawns and when the we told him he needs to change his glove , he proceeded to tell me that we should have told him first and he doesn't have time to change the glove after making every sandwich....... should he need to be told? What happens if the prawns are off and he infects a dozen other people after, I would have expected more,,,,,,, I won't be using them again that's for sure, this must be down to rules about basic food handling mustn't it,,,,,,!!!!!!!!

Molens have always been the affordable go-to for sandwiches and they're still as strong as ever, and serving full lunches/dinners at a reasonable price.The fresh juices are incredible, as a slightly more expensive option.

I have always wanted to try this place, since it was completely refurbished approx.12 months ago and so many of my friends who live in Loughton say how much it has improved. Well I have now. The refurbishment to this eatery is absolutely superb, no expense spared. it is beautiful a real pleasure to be seated in. The front of the premises offers bi folding doors that are able to open the shop front right up, giving a very cosmopolitan feel to the establishment. There is outdoor seating to the front of the premises to.The staff are neatly turned out (smart looking). Even though the restaurant was busy, the staff served us very promptly. Staff here are relaxed and efficient. Our questions where answered.The food we had here was severed how you would want it, stylish and filling. I would like to see the salt beef carved from a joint of beef next time rather than using pre cut factory packed beef but the beef was still a good quality beef with flavour but just left me feeling very thirsty for hours after my meal. My daughter had an Halloumi Burger, which she told me was delicious. It did look amazing.There is such a good range of drinks here to, with some being very different, like bubble teas and smoothies, which we had, again delicious.Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are served here so next time your peckish, give it ago.

We have been coming here for a while now. The food is always good. They have a lovely outside space to enjoy lunch on a sunny day ... Staff are very helpful and friendly. And I've noticed that it doesn't change with time, like a lot of good eating places that start very good then start to go down hill.... so lovely ..... please don't change ....owners have good staff and the restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere.....

Thought I'd try this place as always looks busy but after visiting I have no idea why ?..The food is made from cheap ingredients frozen fries and what tasted and looked like plastic processed salt beef watery with no taste. Weak coffee which I had to ask for some coffee to actually be put in it.Lazy and expensive for food that belongs on a roadside burger bar load of toot !!

I'm really not bothered by this place. I've been a few times now and that's only because it's one of the few places doing anything resembling brunch. I actually resent going into this place as the staff are incompetent and borderline rude and dismissive. Only gets a 3 out of 5 rather than a 2 as the food is pretty good.
