Great food and perfect atmosphere coming from the kitchen as you can see chefs cooking live, We had beef chilli which was outstanding good less chilli for my pallet, my wife ordered kung pow chicken which she liked so much, nice Korean chicken starter, my only 1 star dish was Lamb which is not flavored as you would expect, like the energy from the dreadlocked Jamaican looking chef running and expediting, only my poor rating will be on waiters very less knowledge on the menu , drinks came late and could see fingerprints on my glass, great restaurant and food , just let down by the service team, it was our 1st time as we did not prebook but we love it and we coming back

Great experience for our wedding anniversary. We had a sharing platter to start and then the ramen and gyozas and chilli beef for mains. The place feels very upmarket and quite posh. The food arrived very quickly and tasted great. The service was excellent. Quite pricey for just two people and two drinks. We would return.

An exceptionally nice restaurant with very good food and attentive waiting staff. I would highly recommend. As vegetarian options, it is a very good place but I note that the main meals are much larger than you'd expect. The sushi were so fresh and delicious plus the desserts are particularly good. It seemed difficult to be able to find parking as it didn't seem as though you're allowed to park at the hotel, we has to find a bay just down the road.

Words can't express how good the food and drinks are at this restaurant. It's our 2nd visit, last time was a few years ago, and we think it's got better. Honestly the most delicious taste and quality for both food and cocktails which were every bit as exquisite as the food. Well done Mizu, top notch experience!

Booked a table for 1.30pm for my wife’s birthday to be told on arrival that the kitchen closes at 2pm, so we were rushed from the get go. The service was a bit poor and I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t do something small for my wife’s birthday given that I placed a note in the special requests in the booking. Food was very well presented and good for the Lakes, but a fair stretch from what you might expect in Japan or any comparable 5-star pan Asian restaurant. Will definitely give it another try as it’s probably the best Asian option in Cumbria, but definitely felt underwhelmed by the experience given that it’s positioned as a top tier restaurant.

Love Mizu, ambience, drinks and food amazing! Can be pricey if you over order so bear in mind. The only negative would be if wanting pre dinner drinks in hotel bar it took forever as wedding guests were queued up ordering cocktails. It would be better if a separate bar was available for wedding guests but you can get pre dinner drinks in Mizu itself just havent got the views.

We recently dined at Mizu Restaurant during our spa weekend, marking our second visit to this establishment. On our first visit, we enjoyed the tasting menu, which they were kind enough to make vegan for us. This time, we opted for the à la carte menu and ordered a vegan sharing platter along with a vegetable katsu each. The food was excellent, and our server provided great service throughout our meal. Although there were two sorbet options available for dessert, we decided not to have them. The menu also featured other appealing options like ramen and stir-fried tofu, along with various smaller plates. One minor issue was a bit of noise pollution when the restaurant door opened due to a nearby wedding. However, the staff were quick to address the situation, ensuring our dining experience was pleasant. We plan to visit Mizu again during our next stay at the spa, as the food and service continue to impress us.

The restaurant was laid out in a nice way with lots of room between tables around us, although some tables looked quite close together. Our first interaction was the head of house, she didn’t seem very welcoming and was a bit cold towards us. Not a great start. However the rest of the staff luckily didn’t follow in her footsteps and were brilliant, happy to help explain the menu and recommend some dishes. Service was quick even though it was quite a busy Friday night, however for dessert they gave us new cutlery, but just dumped it on the table and didn’t distribute it, we had to do this. Not the end of the world but it would have been nice as there was on,y two of us so it wouldn’t have been a long task. The food was tasty but was cold for the most part, this could have been because we ordered a sharing platter so only got to certain dishes later on. However the first dishes we had were also on the cooler side and our individual starters were cool. This was the only complaint with the food and it wasn’t bad enough to send it back. It is pretty good value for money all in all and if you are staying in the hotel it’s probably worth the visit but I wouldn’t rush back or go out of my way to visit again even if I was in the area.

Very overpriced food, nothing tasted overly fresh. Took ~20 minutes to receive drinks (both rounds) - asked for the bill which never arrived so had to go up and pay after 15 minutes, staff all appeared as though they could not be bothered to be at work. When spending close to £150 for 2 people for dinner you expect a much better service and meal.

Up market place to eat on special occasions. Set inside the Lodor Falls Hotel. Serves quality foods with good portions. Service was great, attentively staff kept checking if everything was OK just as we had a mouthful of food! Managed to be seated quickly, booking is advisable unless you attend just when they are open in the evening at 5pm. The mocktails were nice, but there was too much ice considering the price. The Sticks Platter 1 of each was delicious and well worth it. It definitely recommended this. The deep-fried seabass presented on top of rice and sauces was also very tasty and full filling, so there was no need to pop into the chippy on the way home. The lamb shank rogan josh was good. The meat was tender, but the sauce was too spicy for my own taste buds. Will go back on another special occasion.

We've been a few times and finding ourselves free of kids / commitments, decided to have lunch out. With the ongoing building works, it took a few minutes to work out where to go as there are no signs to help (head to spa then cross bridge). As always, stunning location and we had a lovely view of the waterfall. Then it went downhill..... ordering was easy and we had a selection of sticks, sushi, ramen & sides. When the waiter was serving my sticks platter, one of the prawn sticks fell onto the table - the waiter just picked it up and put it back on the platter. He did clean the table but I wasn't asked did I want it replaced or anything else. All the food was luke warm and by the time I got through my 6th stick, it was stone cold. The flavours were OK but TBH, tasted like they came from a jar as lacked freshness or depth of flavour. The ramen was OK but lacked depth of flavour. Overall, disappointing and becoming very expensive. Lunch of a platter, ramen bowl, 3 sides and 2 drinks was £105 Would we recommend - probably, but not as first choice Would we go back - unlikely for quite a while

There's no reason why a Pan Asian restaurant located in a fairly remote Cumbrian valley shouldn't work. But everything at Mizu proved me wrong. I'm no expert with this cuisine, but I can recognise taste or, in this case, the lack of, therein. I have to say, the restaurant is beautiful, and in a stunning location so hopes were high. 15 minutes after ordering our 2 drinks there was still no sign of them. I counted only 13 diners in, with at least as many staff, but the girl behind the bar mixing my wife's cocktail was moving as a glacier does. The gloom descended. Finally they arrived. A mediocre margarita (£9) and a pint of Kirin Ichiban (£6) which tasted more like alka-selzer than lager. The Classic Californian Maki (£16) we'd ordered was bereft of any taste with the rice cold and undercooked. It had "previously frozen" written all over it. The Grilled Sticky Pork Belly (£10) wasn't bad but at £2 a bite wasn't worth it. The Grilled Salmon on a Stick (£10) was the same. It bascially flaked away to nothingness. 50 odd quid, still hungry, still thirsty. I can honestly say that similar stuff at Tescos has this beat. Very disappointing for a restaurant, especially one that looks so classy. Oh yeah, they don't accept cash. Grrrr. Sticking to cumberland sausage sarnies from now on.

Would not recommend. Very rude waitress with dark hair. Wasn't pleasant when showing us to our seat. Had to ask on three separate occasions for chopsticks, a spoon for ramen, and soya sauce for sashimi. We were sat at a cosy end of the restaurant by a Christmas tree when a very bright light turned on above our table half way through the meal, we asked the waitress if could be turned off and she recommended we just turned chairs around. Food was already overpriced and she was the cherry the cake. Very happily didn't leave a tip.

Both myself and my friend booked the spa day with mizu lunch. We throughly enjoyed our sp day and I was really looking forward to trying the restaurant as I had high expectations. I had the chicken balls - they looked like chicken meatballs with around 10% chicken in them. They were not what I was expecting, nor did they give much flavour. Before ordering I asked the server how the pork belly comes (crispy/fatty) she said it’s more fatty and I asked if this could please be more crispy which she did no problem. When the food arrived the waiter said - crispy pork belly. There was not a single brown tinge of crispiness on the pork belly and I asked if this could be re done. What they did do was pick out the pork belly, deep fry it and reheat my vegetables and placed the pork belly on top. Now normally this meal would be £28, it was a joke. The sauce had no flavour and was watery and oily. The only good thing was the staff and the cocktails. You are charging extremely high prices for very bland, low quality food and i’m amazed you have so many good reviews . Photo of the stir fry before they cremated it.

We ordered 3 starters: tuna, chicken skewer and steak skewer, all which were delicious. We went on a spa day and paid extra for the mizu, another 40 per person I think! Customer service was OK, my friend and I was discussing bringing partners as the ambience was nice and the location. The food: she had chicken with garlic and something else, the chicken was overcooked, dry with no flavour at all, myself I had the mixed skewers, all overcooked, very chewy, chicken balls tasted like bought from b&m, prawn skewer was a disaster as well as the steak, whatever they were. Staff asked is everything OK, we told her nicely no, everything is dry, overcooked and tasteless and did not want the dessert. She either didn't understand or didn't listen, she brought the spoon for the dessert, and politely let her know again. She then let the manager know our complaints, we were offered a complimentary dessert or a complimentary drink. No thank you. What you should of asked is, could I offer a properly cooked menu for the price you paid. Waiting for a comment back please

We had the large “stick” plate for starters and whilst the taste was good, the food was at best warm and made us wonder if they had been precooked and kept warm. Daughters 18th. Wanted to do something special. Went to Mizu. Arrived with daughter sporting a posh dress and wearing an 18th badge. Manager intervened and told us she wasn’t allowed a cocktail as she had forgotten her ID even though she was with her parents who had ordered it for her. Not only did this dampen the spirits on this special day and also under minded their parents who are in their 50’s. Mizu could have made this a special occasion. They chose not to. Waitresses tried their best and the food was nice. Drinks overpriced. Won’t be returning. No doubt policy rules at this place just a shame they couldn’t have thought about their customers more.

My only negative would be for starters I ordered the salmon teriyaki sticks which did not look the same as the image on the menu. Worst Asian restaurant I’ve ever been to and very overpriced for what it was. Definitely not authentic. Could possibly just be the chef that was on the night but the Gyoza was extremely watery and soggy as was the rice that was used for the sushi and poke bowl. For £16 for 6 pieces you would expect something of a better standard. Everything was just slimey tasteless and oversaturated in water. There was also a fly mashed into the gyoza which I understand is a freak occurrence and wouldn’t routinely happen but just all in all a disappointing meal for what we paid. I never leave trip adviser reviews but really felt the need to for this.

We tried to get a table here several times during the 10 days we were in the Lakes and went round the houses being transferred from person to person on the phone each time trying to make a booking, but were told their tables were being kept for preferential hotel guests and as we weren't staying there we'd be unable to dine there. On our last day we tried again and were told we could come in for an early dinner slot as they were totally full. On arrival, we were surprised to see that over half the tables were empty and wondered why we'd been lied to. As has been mentioned in several other reviews, it seems most of the issues stem from the rude lead server, who rudely kept reminding us how we'd only be allowed a very limited time to eat because only hotel guests could stay as long as they wanted. Seemed unecessary, particularly as so many tables were empty, right through from when we arrived to when we left. During our meal she was glaring menacingly at our table and our kids, which hardly added to the ambience of the experience. Just to give some perspective, our family (with the kids) dined at some of the top restaurants in the area and the kids are very used to top quality London restaurants, so its not as if they misbehaved or were in any way loud etc. Sadly just the bad attitude of the lead server. 2 of the other waiting staff even complimented the kids on how well they behaved. Food was mediocre and very overpriced for what it was, with some reheated frozen dim sum and poor quality cuts of sashimi bringing down the tone. A couple of dishes were nice (including the cod, although the fish itself was ultra salty), but overall generally the meal was below par and some of the recommendations by the male waiter left a lot to be desired (very dry meat in the Rendang for example, which wasn't in any way authentically Indonesian / Malaysian and was fairly lacklustre). The male waiter when asked to advise on portion sizes and how much to order, led us to put an order together that was far too much food for us to eat, which was disappointing as we trusted his advice. Cocktails were mainly nice, although a couple were a bit too watery. The saving grace was the young female waitress, who was super friendly, polite and kind throughout. When we expressed our fear of ordering a dessert due to the threats from the lead server and her ongoing scowling, the young waitress put our minds at ease and said we of course had time to order desserts and to try not to worry "because less than half the tables are in use, so no rush whatsoever" ! If we'd been able to tip her specifically, we would've loved to, but decided that as generally all the rest of the service was so unsatisfactory, it'd send the wrong message. I'm sure she'll soon find a much nicer restaurant to work for, who'll appreciate her talents, which are probably scorned by her line manager here who couldn't hope to be so nice to diners. Such a shame the experience got soured and the pricing was so high for average food, as the location is lovely. As this is a restaurant that exists alongside the hotel, they really should prioritise all restaurant guests, not just those staying at the hotel. Also stop lying to potential customers about how busy the place is when clearly there is lots of space available for all.

This would have been a lovely experience if the lead hostess had not ruined it. Incredibly rude from the start, trying her best to push us to order and eat as quickly as possible which made for a horrible dining experience. The food is presented well, but unfortunately it's all a little mediocre with few options for dietary needs such as gluten free (one gf option for the main) I had the "Sticks" platter, which came warm rather than hot (maybe because it was pre-ordered) with some weird additions such as a pig in blanket, with overcooked bacon and a mini chicken skewer drowned in BBQ sauce. Overall, everything was overcooked and dried out. The skewers were something that felt like they were precooked out of a box and heated under the grill for a few minutes and drowned in sauce before serving. Desert was a poached pear that I'm 99% sure came in ready cooked and frozen from somewhere like Brakes. Except for the overpowering taste of cloves, the pear lacked any flavour of a real freshly poached pear and was stuffed with berries out of a can. It surprises me that they couldn't make a dish like this with fresh ingredients as it's just fruit.

Food was ok but I wasn't blown away by it. Lamb overcooked, noodles undercooked. Service was great. There was a large party of 30ish guests, didn't bother me but found it odd they accept large bookings as there are many couples trying to enjoy a nice quiet evening together.

We've eaten at Mizu on 3 occasions now and I have to say the first two times were out of this world, the food was incredible. When we returned (albeit last august), the food quality was good although not quite the same as our first experiences. The staff and chefs are charming and the service is excellent. It is well worth a visit if you're in the area or better still staying within the L'odore Falls hotel itself. Location wise it doesn't get much better, the restaurant sits next to the falls so in the summer with the door open, the sound of the waterfall provides a lovely back-drop.

Third and last visit and each has got worse. Service is decent and attentive, restaurant interior and location is lovely, but the food is very questionable. I can hardly believe that any of the chefs has cooked in Asia, as the food bears little resemblance to the many iconic dishes that is typical of the region. The only dish we have found that is close to authentic is the sashimi which is decent ( but then it’s not cooked so little to screw up). The skewered dishes are all immersed in a horrible sweet syrupy sauce which is vomit inducing. No where in Asia except perhaps the Philippines is food served in this way. It’s quite disgusting, but it also disguises the food taste - which may be the objective. When you scrape off the sauce which covers the meat entirely ( the kitchen obviously dip the cooked skewered food into a bucket of this slop before plating) instead of revealing a slightly charred juicy morsel, you are met with grey uninspiring meat which all looks the same no matter it’s beef, lamb or whatever. What’s worse, it arrives at the table lukewarm not piping hot and appetising ( dipping into cold sauce??) the salmon skewer is like cardboard slathered in this sickly sweet sauce and so overcooked I doubt the cat would even lick it. The rice is inedible, disgusting was the popular word used in our group. The tempura was probably the best of the cooked dishes, but even this has batter slightly underdone inside but still with a crispy outer, ( batter mix most likely too thick). Quite frankly I feel for the guests who have little exposure to genuine Asian food and are going to think that this sad but expensive offering is the peak of Asian inspired gastronomy. Should we ever have to eat at this establishment again, it will be the sashimi and only sashimi!

I had expected a lot based on their claim to be the best restaurant in England. Perhaps a chef has changed since then! We were sat next to the kitchen but the atmosphere was strange so we asked to move to the other end of the restaurant. This was a bit better, but a lack of people in the restaurant despite it being half term was weird. We chose the platter but in hindsight wish we had gone for the tasting menu. The best items (tempura prawns and tuna sushimi) were okay but lacked seasoning. I had to query one item (squares of crunchy carrot covered in thin lamb), as it wasn't obvious what this was, and it didn't taste very good either! We also didn't eat the rolls of grated carrot wrapped in iceberg lettuce. They had sold out of the potato croquettes and the dumplings so we were offered alternatives. These were adequate. The sauces lacked a lot of taste. Chilli oil had absolutely no kick (and I don't particularly like spicy food!). The salmon was dry and flavourless. I actually thought it was dry chicken at first! The sticky rice was one of the best dishes we tried here! Would I recommend it? No. It's far too overpriced. If I had paid £30 total I might not be so sad about the quality of food. Instead we paid £90 for 2 people. A bit of a rip off.

Mizu has been my favourite restaurant in West Cumbria since it opened. Sadly today it didn’t live up to expectations. The main issue was the soggy tempura batter on all the fried starters. Very very disappointing. I did point this out. It’s just not good...

Having been a year ago and loved it I was really looking forward to going back this year. However, this time I was really disappointed. The food just seemed really bland. The pad thai I had for my main was particularly tastless to the point that I actually prefer Tescos microwave version. This is a really shame because I was wanting to make it my birthday meal of choice every year, but after this visit I'm probably not going to come back 😥

The food was tasty, we enjoyed the drunken noodles here a few years back. The recipe seems to have changed but they were still good if you enjoy really hot food. We also enjoyed the Massaman curry and Pineapple curry and Pad Thai which are more mild and delicious. I would recommend eating here.

We visited here at the end of our last trip to Keswick and vowed to return. In fact, we returned twice in the same week! The hotel and restaurant were refurbished in the last few years and it has been completed tastefully. However, that needs to be backed by high quality food and service and no need to worry there. On visiting last time we both had the seabass and it was so good, we had it again on our return. It always seems mean to only get one fillet but no such worries here. These are backed up by really tasty new potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables together with a tomato sauce. Every element of the dish tastes fantastic and also complement each other. Forcing ourselves to try something else we had fish pie on our second visit. This can often sound interesting but be bland. Not here, we big chucks of salmon and haddock swum in a tasty cream sauce. Supporting Summer greens complimented the pie well. A final word on the service. As excellent as the food, with special mention to Lanie who is a hard worker and knows the right blend between being professional and friendly. A credit to the restaurant. We look forward our next visit to Keswick and Brasserie 31.

Lovely hotel, reception staff member was curt when asked for a table and simply pointed to the restaurant doors. Maitre'd was efficient. Food was just passable. The 2 curries we had were far to salty, one being nearly inedible. Started of prawn was good. Won't go back
