great dinner great presentation could do with nibbles like prawn crackers while waiting for first course due to the fact its all made fresh which takes time .so nice to have with drinks.

One chef to another, can I say that I have only once or twice in many years, Sat down and made sound FX while eating food that is so enjoyable. I had the seabass starter and it was beautifully prepared and plated, as well as tasting absolutely incredible. Paired with a very very good bottle of white vino, this was a triumph. Main, I ordered the house special. It looked incredible, tasted just as good as it looked. I was so impressed with the sauce that accompanied the sea bass, I asked for the sauce with the main as well. I certainly chose well that evening, and my hat is off to the very pleasant chef that could even make the time and effort to come and talk with me after a busy service. I highly recommend this restaurant. The skill that is needed to produce excellence with raw ingredients that is on offer in this restaurant, doesn't always get recognised the way that it should. The chef has absolutely mastered his skill and everyone in the area should try this restaurant and relish the absolute brilliance that is on offer. I certainly will visit as much as I can. Top job.

Went there with a group of friends, wasn’t too busy. Ordered rather quick. Waited for like half an hour and one of my 3 friends got their food. Noted, it was only a few pieces of sushi. About ten minutes later, my other two friends got their food (one of which consisted of rice, edimame and miso soup). For the next half an hour plus, I watched as people, who came way later than us, got their food. I ordered a salmon set, which I would assume wouldn’t take long, and it took over an hour. The food itself was mediocre, but some things that were stated on the menu weren’t given. Then the payment, they couldn’t take card payment below £40. And as a group of friends, we’d want to split it, which we couldn’t because of this. Overall, was not worth the money or time.

Dreadful inappropiate loud music throughout completey at odds with any pleasant dining experience. Never again and service was slow

We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful food that we were served at Mi Ya. Each dish was beautifully presented with fresh, wholesome ingredients. The salmon with black bean sauce was divine! I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

The aesthetic of the restaurant is beautiful. The cherry blossom is beautiful! It's well situated in the lovely area of Westbourne. Walking distance from a pay and display car park! Unfortunately, these would be the only positives about tonight's experience that I can share. Whilst the interior was extremely photogenic, I wasn't there for 'food or selfies for the gram' I was there for a lovely evening which I most definitely DID NOT HAVE As an avid fan of eating out and Japanese food, I was excited to share some traditional Japanese experiences with a friend and our children. Arriving at 18.15, I raved about the Japanese customer service being exceptional and was horrified of what we received! Never in my life have I been sworn at by a member of staff until tonight (The Chef) but I'll explain more about that later. Please read on.. Firstly let's talk about food; Presentation - beautiful! Taste - flavoursome Temperature - Cold! Starters Crispy Duck Gyoza £7.95 each There was absolutely nothing crispy about these slimy over steamed soggy dumplings. They emulated the consultancy of a bad chest infection. Annoyingly we had ordered two portions and both arrived a slimy wet sloppy state! These delights were served with our main course side dishes - an unusual concept we thought! However, they arrived which is more than I can say about one of the mains. Now whilst I'm talking about side dishes the Chef had refused to add plain chicken to Udon Noodles for the children who are under 5! We even offered to pay extra so our children could eat but we're told the Chef refused. The menus is wonderful but definitely not child friendly! Main Course (Big Dishes) According to the menu all served with rice Chicken Terraki £15.95 Miya Steak £17.95 Aubergine & Beef Ribeye Steak £17.95 The first main (Chicken Terraki) arrived cold and 20 minutes before the second of the three mains arrived. Bizarre as we had all asked to eat together! This was unedible. Due to the temperature and punk chicken! Ahhhh. The rice has solidified into a congealed lump. I personally love Thai sticky rice but this was in a league of its own and could of been used as a weapon even I turned my nose up. The Miya Steak was ordered well done but a number of pieces looked blue. Dripping in blood it was sent back to the chef asking if it could be cooked futher. It arrived back moments later still bleeding and only one slice had been cooked to well done. The rice again was a brick and cold. The small salad garnish was eaten and the mushrooms were soft but the bulk of the main was untouched. Aubergine & Beef Ribeye Steak Well, I can't comment on this as it never arrived! What did arrive however, was foie gras and some sort of meat. I certainly didn't order or eat it! (Offal and I are not friends!) The presentation was beautiful but again rice had glued itself to the bowl and was cold! If you ever never need gorilla glue and dont have any, head to this restaurant and order rice! Chips with Garlic Mayo £3.90 These Never turned up either for our children! When we asked to speak to a manager quietly, we were told she wasn't available. The chef stomped past us muttering staring at our uneaten food. Finally about about 30 minutes later, we were handed an iPhone where the manager offered to take 10% off the bill. Obviously this had to be a joke! It was completely unacceptable and we weren't willing to settle for that. Whilst we took our selves away from other customers to try and not make it obvious their was an issue the chef proceeded to state at us making very loud comments about both my friend and I. Whilst we tried to resolve our issue with a manger on the phone, our children plus one adult had already left to go elsewhere as it was 20.30 by this point. 2 hours in and barely anything had been eaten and if your parent of small child or children you know hanger is real! If that wasn't enough, upon leaving the chef left his station, forcibly slamming the door behind us and swearing at us. I'm furious I even paid for the drinks to be honest, which I offered to do as I felt like hat we'd consumed those and it was only right. Whilst I appreciate the restaurant was busy and staff are new, this whole evening was unacceptable. The manager was polite on the phone agreeing we shouldn't of had to wait so long forcing us to buy pringles from a local shop to give the children. Although, I don't agree with management be littling and blaming the waitress giving us her name and her personal opinion of her. Completely unprofessional. The staff looked terrified of the Chef, being visibly told off infront of the customers due to where they had placed a high chair! In all honesty the high chair wasn't in the way and was at an end of a table. If you don't want children in your restaurant don't cater for them by having high chairs! The waitress was kind and quiet, obviously not knowing what to do in our situation. However I don't feel in any way the fault of her! She was new but certainly not rude! If I could rate this venue half a star for its interior and it's food presentation I would. It has absolutely nothing else going for it. Forget Karen's dinner, just go here to be abused by their chef. I think he's watched far too many Gordon Ramsey hells kitchen episodes. I urge you to think twice before going here! If you want Japanese food - head to Charminster and go to their Japanese restaurant. it's exceptional and the senior staff and chef are phenomenal! I will never return and urge others not too either!

Miya Japanese restaurant is good. The food is really nice and high quality. Only thing to consider is the service was a uninventive.

Great interior atmosphere and food! The sushi set came in a really sweet and nice presentation. The food was quick and lovely and you see food getting made fresh by the chef there. Staff was nice and don't feel awkward going in alone too.

We have visited in the past but the last two visits we were so cold in the restaurant as no heating. The background music was like sitting in a nightclub with rave music playing, we asked for alternative music but was ignored. The service was an absolute shambles with no one having any knowledge of the menu. Lastly the payment terminals not working due to an Wi-Fi connection however the couple who left prior to is had no problem! The request was for cash or bank transfer to an private account !,,,

My husband and I were lucky to get a table at the last minute yesterday evening. The atmosphere was perfect. It’s a cozy restaurant but no one is on top of each other. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and excellently presented. So beautiful. Delicious I wish we were local as I’d definitely visit again. We had tempura prawns, Caribbean squid, mackerel sashimi and a salmon and soft shell crab Miya Rolls. Superb dining experience.

We are not used to any Japanese food apart from sushi and so we were trying something new really. The waiter’s advice on the sake (warm) was key to a simple but tasty meal; three appetisers of which the seaweed salad was amazing and the duck gyoko different. Beautiful presentation of the plates, and outstanding flavours. Small but welcoming restaurant.

This is a wonderful Japanese restaurant! My husband and I enjoyed every dish we tried. The sushi, tempura and appetisers were all delicious. We thought the wine was really good value for money too. The service was friendly and very efficient. We will definitely be back and have already recommended to friends

I am very disappointed I booked using their web page booking for a birthday lunch for my wife, but I did not receive any confirmation email, The day before the lunch I thought I had better ring to check only to be told that even though they advertise lunches during the week that is no longer the case, What I am angry about is they had my booking that stated that this was a birthday treat for my wife they could not be bothered to contact me to say that they were not open, can you imagine turning up for a birthday lunch and finding them closed. disgraceful was to run a business.

We have been to Miya many times and each time we've had fantastic meals. The food is delicious and so fresh, great to see the chefs there cooking it for you. Highly recommend the duck gyoza, scallops, crispy prawns and miso aubergine. All so tasty and staff are great.

I don't typically leave TripAdvisor reviews, but felt the need to highlight how superb this restaurant is. We've been a number of times as we live locally and it has never failed to impress with our most recent visit being particularly enjoyable. The food is nothing short of sensational - flavour, presentation, variety and quality are all of the highest standard. The service is warm, friendly and engaging. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Baffled by the positive reviews. Not only was the service awful, as others have mentioned (we waited 40 mins for a drink and 1.45hours for our food), the food is not very nice. The quality of the fish is average at best, rice was warm and claggy, tempura dishes extremely oily. Would definitely not visit again nor recommend.

This restaurant isn’t really a Japanese restaurant. There is not much ‘authentic’ food on the menu and the prices are extremely exaggerated for the size of the plates. It had quite a pretentious feel to it. Staff were friendly though.

I was excited to visit Mi Ya as I have read good reviews about it on TripAdvisor, as well as it being awarded the 'Certificate of Excellence 2018-2019' . Being new to the area and a fan of Japanese cuisine, we decided to try this restaurant. Sadly the whole experience was not up to standard.First of all, the restaurant itself was cold as there is a fan in the back of the restaurant which was blowing hot air, but this was cooling off and creating a draft where we were sat. We ordered our food and it arrived at odd times. The meat rolls that were ordered were good and presented well, however the portion sizes were seemed slightly less than other restaurants for the price you are paying. (6 pieces, normally 12).There were two in our party who are vegetarian, and had ordered the vegetable selection. This did not come at the same time as the other dishes as the meat eaters had already finished when this had arrived. This selection had an item that was not stocked that day but we were not informed. Upon asking the staff about missing items, we were told to 'try to enjoy your meal'. The shiitake mushroom sushi was burnt and inedible, the avocado sushi was unripe and it was missing what was said on the menu. We were not pleased with this dish - but were charged full price and with no apologies either from the managers. The waiters could do with more training as I found them to be quite rude.We aren't unreasonable customers - we are in the restaurant industry so we understand that not everything can be perfect. However the lack of customer service and quality of the whole restaurant was just not reflective of the reviews and Certificate of Excellence on TripAdvisor. Sadly I will not be returning.

We visited with friends - by accident as were just looking for somewhere good to eat. This was a great find. There is a wide selection of intesresting food and we all loved our choices. My sushi was brilliant. The staff were excellent too.

Tomaron nuestra reserva, no somos comedores lentos, no hay explicación para esta grosería inusual. Lástima.

Visité con un grupo de amigos un sábado por la noche. El restaurante estaba lleno, lo que muestra lo popular que es. Pedimos principalmente sushi mixto y sashimi, con un acompañamiento de tempura mixta. Todo estaba delicioso y muy bien y cuidadosamente presentado. Toda la comida, especialmente el pescado, era súper fresca. Todo el personal era muy educado, encantador y servicial, y obviamente orgulloso de los altos estándares del restaurante. I have been twice now and both times been amazed by the food and the way in which is it served. All of the dishes both tasted and looked incredible. It is also very reasonably priced I think for what you get. All the food comes out when it is ready which I loved as you got a chance to enjoy each dish for what it was. I will defiantly be returning.

Was told by friends about this place who said it was really good. We were not disappointed! The food is excellent and I mean excellent. Sushi was delicious and the tempura incredible, it’s the lightest & freshest tempura better I’ve tasted and we loved it. We will be back!

A long time fan of the restaurant after multiple visits. HOWEVER , on my last and final visit I was dismayed and quickly angered by the service and the subsequent poor attitude of the staff as well the manager when I brought it to their attention. Bringing my partners food out and then delaying bringing mine out for 15 minutes after somewhat ruined the night, I dont know many couples that enjoy watching their partner eat and nearly finish their meal before the others is even brought out. The manager simply said, next time tell us you want it at the same time.Poor service, poor reaction to it being highlighted

Excellent food, we tried the teriyaki chicken, and the sushi and sashimi really delicious. the service was good too very efficient and friendly. Its only a small restaurant so I would recommend booking ahead particularly at weekends.

Walked in with no booking and although busy they found us a table outside in the garden. A beautiful place to eat some very tasty sushi. Highly recommend any of the mixed sushi platters.

Had been let down by the restaurant originally booked for that night so had to search for an alternative quickly. Fortunately we came across this place, with a menu that is part traditional Japanese, part less predictable.

Ate here for lunch from the reasonably priced lunch menu. Lovely small intimate restaurant, well decorated and friendly service. Had the tempura vegetable to start which was plentiful and well presented. Then I had the salmon teriyaki which was delicious and again well presented, with rice, lovely fresh salad and miso soup. Drinks excellent. All in all would highly recommend and return. Taxi rank right outside.

Our first visit to Miya and it won't be our last. The atmosphere is welcoming and there is a cool vibe about the place. The serving staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The food is really nice with a range of options. The crispy prawn starter was excellent as was the sashimi plate.

Delicious! Ordered a selection of dishes like a Japanese tapas 👌 Very friendly attentive service. Miya is in Westbourne area of Bournemouth which has plenty of bars, pubs and coffee houses for a good night out.

We had a really enjoyable evening at Miya . It was reassuringly busy, even on a Wednesday evening, and we took the last free table at around 8pm. Having looked at some of the reviews and photos on Tripadvisor we had high expectations and were not disappointed; we enjoyed some beautifully presented, delicious food. Our starters were the seared yellow fin tuna and the tuna sashimi with avocado and quail egg, both were so tasty. We followed this with tempura prawns and then a mixed seafood sushi and sashimi special, again all excellent.This is set to become one of our favourite local restaurants.

A little Gem. Every dish was just delicious- especially the soft shell crab tempura. As the evening's customers thinned out a bit, the owner, Yuki ( hope that's spelled correctly?!), reseated my friend and me, and another couple, so that we had a bit more privacy- I thought that was very smart & considerate of her. The service was very good, and we had a lovely evening. Thanks MiYa!!!

Love this restaurant so much! It is a real treat and the staff and food are perfect. It’s not Japan standard sushi but it’s by far the best in the area.

This is the best Japanese food I have ever eaten. Went on Monday eve, the place was packed. All the food was freshly prepared and of a high quality. The staff were friendly throughout the night and at the end of the evening we met the owners who came to talk to us to ask if we enjoyed our evening. This restaurant is definitely going to become a regular for us.

Came for lunch with 2 teenagers. Food excellent. My daughter who had never tried seafood ate a wide selection of seafood plus raw fish and loved all of it.

Had takeaway sushi from here tonight. It was a 100 x better than Nippon Inn. I took away 1 point from the crispy salmon skin roll as the skin tasted burnt. But everything else was really flavourful and expertly rolled. The miso soup was one of the best I’ve tasted. The tempura soft shell crab was also really tasty. I want to dine in next time as the garnished plates look wonderful.

We visited burnemouth from London and really fancied some sushi. We stumbled across Miya on trip advisor as it was our first visit to the coast so had no idea what restuarants were good and which were not. We are so glad we chose this restuarant because the food was amazing, some of the best sushi we've had!! We have been to many different sushi restaurants in London and can truly say that Miya is well up there! If I go back to Bournemouth again I will definitely be coming back for more sushi!!

Visited Bournemouth for the first time with my fiancé last weekend, and fancied some sushi, we ended up going here, and we are so glad that we did. We have been to many sushi restaurants in London, but can honestly say that this is the best sushi we’ve had, absolutely amazing! So impressed!

Went for our daughter's birthday as have been twice before and enjoyed meal. Unfortunately we really feel that more staff are desperately needed in both kitchen and restaurant areas as meal was tediously slow with mistakes being made. I made booking twice on phone as the person taking my booking put the phone down on me the first time before I had the chance to give my name and telephone reference. Should have known it was a bad omen as we arrived at 7pm and were still waiting for the main by 9.30pm. We tried to pay for half an hour before a member of staff finally acknowledged our presence- could've easily left without paying the £150 bill. Didn't want to leave a tip. Quite frankly, if Mi Ya can't be bothered then neither can we. If you do go to this restaurant, then maybe you should have a snack beforehand so you don't wilt away whilst waiting for a meal.

We love Japanese food and were delighted with the starters. However, the steak which had been ordered rare, was well done. No pink at all. I was concerned about hygiene as one of the chefs returned from "through the door" with a dirty bowl in his hands and proceeded to make sushi. I saw no evidence of hands being washed on returning to the kitchen. I was happy I wasn't having this. I wouldn't visit here again. The service was slow although friendly. I was disappointed because I had high hopes.

Absolutely first class Japanese Restaurant.The food is delicious and the staff extremely helpful.This was our first visit and it will take a few more to fully appreciate all the different choices.By far the best Japanese experience I have had and cannot wait to go back.

Returned here for dinner with one of my daughters, and we loved it. The food and the presentation are both terrific. The sushi is lovely and worth making a detour to eat here - the restaurant is a bit away from the centre of town, but walkable (or an easy bus/taxi ride). Happily I live only about half a mile away. My only reservation would be that the wine list could be more exciting, but that's only a small thing!

We've eaten here a few times now. The presentation of the food is an art form and it tastes good too. Quite reasonably priced and very attentive service. I'm not a fan of sushi bars but this place is on a much higher level.

My second visit to Bournemouth and my 2nd visit to Miya....

Having eaten alot of japanese food, i cant say i was over keen on this place. In fact i left quite hungry and let down. Selection of food is quite small. atmosphere was nice, and it was quiet busy the evening we went. Dont think i will be going back to be honest.

We visited here for the second time on Wednesday evening and found it even better than the first time. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food beautifully presented, freshly cooked and so tasty. The crispy chicken skin yakatori was wickedly good, as was the chicken teriyaki. My friends tasted my steamed rice with teriyaki sauce and wished they'd ordered it. I tried my husband's Caribbean squid and loved it. It's the first time I've tasted squid that hasn't been chewy. The wine was good and reasonably priced. Our friends, who had never eaten in a Japanese restaurant, will definitely visit here again. This is possibly going to be our favourite restaurant in Westbourne. Give it a try, even if you think you don't like Japanese food!

I like Japanese food. All kinds of Japanese food and I longed for a local Japanese that was more than a conveyer with under whelming sushi. Recently, a Japanese restaurant opened in Westbourne so I gave it a try. Four of us went.

We went on a Wednesday evening for a birthday. the restaurant was not busy at all when we sat down about 6.30pm. We ordered by 6.45pm then the food came out VERY staggered. 4 main courses turned up first (without their side dishes). then sporadically a dish every now and again. I had finished my main for ages before my husband's meal and our side dishes arrived at 8.10pm. the side dishes were just noodles in a soup or sauce so absolutely no idea why this took so long. We had our toddler with us too who was exhausted when we finally left.

This restaurant blows any competition away for a 100 mile radius.The specials in particular are amazing.Staff are attentive ,knowledgeable and amiable.over all a great experience.

We loved Miya. A tiny little Japanese restaurant tucked away in Westbourne. The sushi is excellent, staff lovely and prices reasonable. Can’t wait to go back and try some more of the menu!

Good sushi and sashimi was fresh out of the kitchen service is also excellent I was really hungry so I was looking forward to this meal I ate quite a lot of sushi Well worth a visit

First time in this area we were recommended this restaurant by our hotel in Poole.

I visited this restaurant, solo, for lunch about 2 months ago and was impressed - so much so that today I returned with a friend. We ordered tempura prawns to share, as a starter, followed by a beef curry for my friend and a pork curry for me. With the curries came a salad and small soup.

Wonderful food beautifully presented and prepared.We were a fairly large group which probably made it hard to prepare & serve quickly.My food arrived after everyone else had about finished but I would definitely go back as the quality was excellent

Good sushi, good saké and lovely service. A bit too 'trendy' and I don't like being 'pushed' into deserts etc but not bad.

I've been in several Japanese restaurants but I can definitely say that this is superlative!!! Sushi is delicious and plates are wonderfully presented. All the staff is friendly and the price is honest. I might say ... the best Japanese restaurant in Bournemouth!

Wonderful place to eat and socialise. Amazing food, beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. Tuna and avocado starter looked and tasted wonderful. Soft shell crab was so delicious. We also had a selection of sushi and sashimi , which were brilliant. Also Great service.

Had bits of Japanese food before, never a full meal. Mi Ya is very good but if you are squeamish about raw fish you’d miss out on half the menu. Specials last night included some large raw prawns which took a bit of courage! Everything is beautifully presented, the service is very friendly and even the chefs are out front and chatty. Will go again for certain.

Have eaten at Miya three times and finally had to get on TripAdvisor and write a review. Absolutely love this restaurant! It is family owned and run with friendly waiting staff and a great, very busy, little team of chefs preparing the food fresh to order.

This is a great resteraunt. It combines excellent service, quality food and wine at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

The restaurant has a calm atmosphere reflected in the décor and attentive staff. We have eaten here on two occasions and the second visit lived up to our first experience. The food has an authentic feel both in the way it is served and the taste of the dishes. I am writing this as someone who has never visited Japan!

Hidden up the wrong end of the high street, behind a tiny, unassuming facade, you could be forgiven for not having a clue this place existed.

Nice, small place with a few cute tables outside in the back. I visited for lunch and had a couple excellent quality sushi rolls. One roll was entirely tempura and fried on the outside. It was super filling and very well done. The service was also great. Everyone was very timely, professional and friendly. I would love to return for dinner!
