First off, I have to say that the young blonde lady who served us did an outstanding job in every respect. My big disappointment was the temperature of the food on my plate, it was barely warm and the poached egg was solid. There were a total of five poached eggs amongst the four of us, and all five were solid. I think the cafe has to look at how long it takes for a plate of food to travel 20 yards from the kitchen to the table. Why didn't I complain? It was a birthday celebration and I didn't want the embarrassment. I just shouldn't have to explain the concept of a runny yoke in a poached egg. :-) We just 'got on with it'. All the drinks were great, some excellent coffee served.

We have been using Marples for many years , we have e enjoyed the friendly nature of your staff and the quality of your meals . Unfortunately not only have your prices increased but the portions have also been reduced drastically! A breakfast a 2 egg omelet 2 coffees a fresh orange and marmalade with toast . £30 is to our mind too expensive .

Called in with a friend for lunch whilst enjoying an afternoon out in Cleethorpes. Ordered a steak pie which was excellent. Cafe was nice inside and staff were pleasant. Good choice on the menu, I would definitely return when next in Cleethorpes

Booked afternoon tea for four. On arrival we were informed the toilets were broken. I asked if they had an arrangement with any local pub/restaurant to use the facilities and was told “no”. We were asked to choose our sandwich, an afternoon generally consists of a selection of sandwiches and fillings, this was the first disappointment. The other savoury items included were, an espresso cup of soup with a soggy piece of toasted bread and a piece of cheese in breadcrumbs. The scone was dry, hard and unpleasant. The “cakes” were at best average. They consisted of a mini, very soggy, tasteless mint chocolate brownie, a gingerbread biscuit that was undercooked and you left finger marks in it when picking it up, a chocolate baileys torte that was so gloopy you could not pick it up. Everything had been “glued” to the top tier of the stand with chocolate syrup. Not necessarily what you want with an undercooked mince pie, or anything else on the plate. When paying we were asked if we enjoyed it, I answered it was OK, she answered the plates look empty, she did not ask why or apologise. Indeed the plates were empty but the cake stands were not as we had left food on them. Very poor food and the person at the till extremely rude.

Popped in with some friends for afternoon tea and can only describe this as an awful experience , won’t be returning anytime soon however I have learnt that it’s due to close at Christmas so that’s saved me the bother , time to find a new venue that values its customers..

Went for Christmas afternoon tea with friends. Staff were brusk to say the least. The young lady who served us came across as stern and unfriendly. We were told - and I mean told - we needed to make space for the food coming out - we cleared the middle space to be told this was wrong and we were instructed to clear space between us as the cake/sandwich stand would be placed between us. We quickly moved cups etc - no sign of a thank you, enjoy your food - nothing. One of the party was vegetarian - she had made the booking and at the time of booking was told there would be vegetarian option instead of the prawns. Afternoon tea - 4 very small prawn cocktails - my vegetarian friend explained her previous conversation - the member of staff went to ask - coming back with no nothing could be done " because the afternoon teas were already set up". No apology. We carried on - soup was tepid - neither hot nor cold - prawn cocktail - contained one lettuce leaf and 6 prawns, tiniest piece of brie - cold. 3 finger sized sandwiches - all had to be of one filling - not a selection as we thought - menu says a choice of fillings - again we were told no it's one choice. The scone was also small - and difficult to cut as crumbled into a number of bits. We had to ask for further drinks - when ours were empty - customer wise it was very quiet - 3 other tables - but it felt staff were not interested. No checking if all was ok by the staff - we did get a slightly more cheery lady - who came asking if we had finished - this was at 3.30 - made to feel uncomfortable - it was very obvious as we were the last table in - the " hint" was we should be thinking about leaving. Such a shame - have been a regular customer over many years - but my last couple of visits have been disappointing to say the least. It came across very much that we were a hindrance - especially latterly. I won't be rushing back.

I have been going to Marples on a fairly regular basis for over 20-years and up until VERY recently it has been faultless. Today my friend and I visited for brunch and I was utterly shocked at how empty it was : I have never seen it before as anything but rammed to the rafters. In fact, apart from my friend and myself, there was only one other table occupied and there were actually more waiting staff than customers. The food was excellent, as always, and actually was served VERY much quicker than usual - because of the lack of customer orders, I presume. The one thing that was immediately noticeable and has never been in evidence before, was the attitude of the serving staff. Without exception they were cheerless, unsmiling and gave the impression that customers were an extreme annoyance and irritant. This was SO profound that I actually didn't leave a tip, which is something that I would never do under normal circumstances. Having read the previous two Tripadvisor reviews, this does not bode well for Marples, which is an awful shame!

Just left our meal having barely eaten anything after overhearing an argument between what appeared to be the owner and the manager. The conversation seemed like it should have been kept in an office or anywhere other than where your paying customers are sitting trying to enjoy their breakfast. Having asked if the FOH member in question was ok after seeing her look distressed, my girlfriend was met by ‘Dave’, who I can only assume is the owner or someone in a higher capacity than everyone else with how he spoke to not only the young lady but my girlfriend also. Having hard conversations between staff and management is conducive to a well run establishment; unfortunately just not in front of customers and especially not in the tone that we heard. We will not be returning. My girlfriend now feels uncomfortable to enter an establishment that she’s been going to for many a year. £45 down the drain.

The food in here is absolutely lovely, there is a lot of choice and it is good quality. I did feel a little rushed as different waitresses kept coming over asking to take our order whilst I was trying to sort out my baby. I also think it is a shame that there is no baby changing facilities, it’s a pretty basic thing to be lacking and would put me off coming again. I would recommend but wouldn’t say it’s particularly accommodating for babies.

The best eggs Benedict ever. I really like this dish for brunch or light lunch and have had it in many places. Marples is consistently the best. Soft, grilled muffin, quality ham, perfect poached eggs - not too runny and not hard either - warm hollandaise sauce - and chives to add a splash of green. Very good.

Such a shame as used to be lovely. Service was poor and food was just terrible. So overpriced and toast was burnt. Had to ask several times for desert menu then another customer ended up getting the waitress’ attention as nobody came back to take our order. Just didn’t feel welcoming. So overpriced too for what we ordered. Would not go back. Went there because I thought it would be a nice place to take my elderly parents for afternoon tea. HUGE disappointment.

Marples is our go to place. We have been going here for 25 years. The food is excellent and the staff are welcoming and always pleased to see us. We started going with my mum and dad, who are no longer with us. They looked after them especially when they were getting older and things were harder for them. Since we lost them we have been equally well looked after. We usually book but if we don't they try their very best to accommodate us. This is our favourite place in Cleethorpes, it is our home from home. Here's to another 25 years.

I suppose it's down to the fact that (almost) every menu now has ridiculously pompous and over the top descriptions of the food that I read the menu (just simply and honestly described food) and was a bit worried about what to expect. My Haddock and chips was very obviously freshly prepared and cooked to prefection - a real treat. Service was speedy and friendly. We were very impressed overall - good food, good value and nice people - what more can one ask for?

From the outside it looks a bit dull and the interior could do with brightening up. It was very busy though which is always a good sign. The menu is fairly straightforward and standard but the food was good and the cost reasonable rather than cheap. It is a mix of simple things like sandwiches to basic full dishes. We had no problem with the staff who were friendly and helpful. If you want good standard British food then this is a find.

Recent visit for a quick cappuccino and plum bread and tea cake. Quite a good presentation eager to please but had to be prompted to bring the cutlery. But the food which arrived was hot and tasty and quick. What was missing and did show on the waitresses was a lack of proper training in table arrangement.

I have been to this cafe many times but this is the first time n about 2 years...The staff were not very friendly...we ordered two baked potatoes with prawn and seafood sauce. The potatoes were clearly microwaved, very bland and not enough filling or sauce. We had to ask for extra sauce..the salad on the plate was scarce and at £7.50 it was not good value for money. We did tell a member of staff and she stated that most people prefer their potatoes not crunchy so the potatoes were cooked like that as a result of the customer request...I really find that hard to believe....will not be visiting again which is a shame as it used to be excellent..

What a depressing morning when the sun was shining and it was nice and crispy weather outside. I missed my breakfast so I could enjoy a full wholesome breakfast. But never again in a hurry. :(the garnish was made up of few sprigs of soggy lettuce, soft pepper bits and half a cherry tomato. Panini was good but the tuna tasteless.
