Small place with a great food! I like the decor of the place. The staff is friendly and helpful. I like the idea of when food is ready it’s on the table in random order. Small place but selection of different dishes is great so definitely we’ll be back to try more of it. If you’re a fan of Asian food this place is a must visit on your culinary journey.

Came for dinner and loved it. Small, intimate venue with good chat from the team working. Maybe a sign on the door saying no tables available would be useful as literally every 5 minutes someone came in only to be turned away - but that can only be a good sign right!? 100% worth a visit.

Good service and extremely good food. One of the best in Edinburgh and super creative. I can't give 5 starts as some plates are ridiculously small for the prize. Eg. a small 3-bite monkfish & guanciale skewer for £14.

Really hate to leave such a negative review. Third time here, delicious food but the service (and reservation system on previous visits) is baffling. Heard two tables in our proximity also had issues. Our inital course of dumplings we were given the wrong ones. We should have complained however it was clear the female member of staff was under pressure/ unwilling to assist. To add to it we ordered an Orange wine (the only one on the menu- as stated by the waitress) to be given white with no explanation. Really hope things improve. An extremely rushed and negative experience. It does not mirror the efforts of the kitchen.

Mirin in Edinburgh - A Delightful Culinary Adventure! Our visit to Mirin in Edinburgh was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for the evening. The food was nothing short of spectacular; each dish felt like a mini adventure, bursting with unique and vibrant flavours. The sake selection complemented our meal perfectly, adding an authentic touch to the dining experience. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who made sure we were well looked after throughout our meal. We found that two dishes per person were just right for a light to normal meal, but if you arrive with a hearty appetite, three dishes will certainly satisfy. Overall, our experience at Mirin was top-notch. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy exceptional food and great service in Edinburgh. Highly recommended!

Food will be familiar to anyone who has ever been to a David Chang place. It's 2010s east Asian fusion, but everything is just too extreme - umami plus, plus. There's no balance. Almost every dish was too salty - good bar snack food with a beer, but a whole meal? It's overwhelming, like eating the bottom of a pack of crisps. The only dish I really enjoyed was the venison. Meat was top quality, but it's literally a bowl of meat under a foam. Am I a bodybuilder? I also find the portions and sizes weird. Are they for sharing? Some physically can't be shared, like the soups and the slider, which was so tall you had to break it all apart, which sort of defeats the purpose of a hamburger. Japanese and Korean food is very balanced. This restaurant should take some notes from the source.

Food was decent, but not enough to justify the prices (£60 total, 4 dishes between us, 2 soft drinks). The portions are tiny, I understand it's a small plates place but you end up paying the price of a full-size main for each plate. Not including VAT was a kick in the teeth too. It's a shame, I visited when this was Gulp Ramen- even though it was a bit expensive then, it was justifiable as the ramen was so good. It feels like now they're just charging more for much less (beyond the inflation other restaurants have also faced).

What a fantastic experience at Mirin. This may be my new favourite restaurant in Edinburgh! My partner and I came in to this unassuming wee restaurant with high expectations, a lot of people had recommended I try the food here, and they were spot on. Standout dishes were the roe deer dumplings, the hand pulled noodles with hogget curry and the tonkatsu slider which was a sublime combination of flavours and textures. One of the best things I've ever eaten I think. The lady who served us gave us a great rundown of the menu and some good advice, and after ordering I think 5 or 6 dishes to share, we were off. We left with our souls and stomachs nourished and smiles on our faces and I loved it so much I'm headed back with a friend less than a week later. Thank you Mirin!

As someone familiar with Asian cuisine, I would not advise to visit this restaurant. The restaurant wants to blend Eastern and Western flavors, but it turns out the dishes are lack of the authentic taste expected. The ramen, for example, was surprisingly sour and excessively salty, and is different from the traditional Japanese ramen. Overall, my dining experience left much to be desired, and I believe there are better dining options available that offer both a more authentic Asian food and better value.

Very nice place! Good food, had a variety of dishes which all tasted nicely and quite delicious. We ordered around 6 dishes, as they are on a smaller size, and we wanted to try a bit of everything. Liked the internal decor of the place as well. The downside to the experience was that 2 of the dishes took quite a long time to be made, and we had to ask for them at least 3 times. Given that the other 4 dishes were made quite quickly, it was an expectation of all dishes to be served quickly, but it wasn't the case. If Broccoli and Hot Chicken take a while to be served, it would be nice to have a disclaimer on the menu or be told so in person. Felt like maybe there was miscommunication during order stage, but it also felt like we were given lies to when we asked about the dishes and when they would be done, instead of saying that they forgot, or unless it quite literally took some time to make. P.S. Michael was very nice and respectful. Wonderful person!

Situated in Leith walk, Gulp Ramen, now called Mirin, offers the warmness and coziness with the food. Their noodle is quite firm compared to other ramen shop giving the new sensation. It’s chewable but harder. Tonkatsu is their signature dish which is very creamy but can be salty. The pork is good. The prices can be a little bit pricey. Booking the table in advance is a better choice as the shop is pretty small otherwise you might not get in. Also Its a Dog friendly restaurant , many customers bring their dogs here.

Now MiRiN - Nice food & cool vibes. Really friendly but slow service - made to wait outside for some reason even though we arrived at the exact time of our booking and there were empty seats inside - we had to stand on the pavement until one table had finished eating... good thing it wasn't raining yet. Later there was a walkin that got those same empty seats right away. Maybe they have a system but we were confused. Didn't get water until all the other tables that had arrived after us did. I'm not really one to be too fussed about service but was left feeling quite uncomfortable. The crispy duck with cherry and black pudding was amazing. The katsu slider was small but pretty tasty. Chicken yakitoti was decent even though it was £5 for a single stick but was actually quite large. The charred cabbage with curried butternut squash was better than expected but the flavor was quite overpowering. Rice was incredibly small (possibly the tiniest serving I have seen in a restaurant) and wasn't brought to the table until all the other dishes almost got cold despite having asked for it a couple of times. Perhaps they thought some people eat plain white sushi rice on its own. I don't know - maybe they were busy but it really could've been better 🙃. There were seats for 14-16 and 2 waitresses - one's a social butterfly who immediately forgets what you've asked for after enthusiastically nodding, leaving you waiting until you ask the other one for the same thing again.

The starters were lovely! We had shrimp dumplings and beef with asparagus, both super tasty. For our main course; the tonkatsu ramen. It was my first time trying ramen and it was definitely not my cup of tea. I'm guessing that's on me rather than Gulp though, based off of how delicious the starters were! I found the taste very plain and overbearing at the same time: sweetcorn and slimey slivers of mushroom in thick, foamy chicken broth (that just tasted like forever cooked chicken, no spices) topped with pork meat cooked to mush. The meat reminded me of the Swedish dish 'kalops' without flavour. Like I said; not my cup of tea. But that's probably how ramen is supposed to be? The staff will make it a big deal if you leave food on your plate, so I felt pretty ashamed of myself for not finishing. Perhaps not the best place to try ramen for the first time. They will add 10% serving fee on top of everything so It was rather pricey, but I'd gladly pay for (and eat) the starters again!

This is a small restaurant off Leith Walk. We’ve noticed it before and been meaning to try it for a while. Yesterday we finally booked a table for dinner (you will have to book in advance on weekends as I heard the service turn down some walk-ins). The atmosphere was great, not too loud so you could chat calmly and comfortably. Me and my partner did not fancy ramen as it was a warm day outside so we opted for small plates: the highlights were the dirty rice and the slider. We would have liked to order a cured egg yolk on the side to dip the small plates in (especially the yakitori). Our friend had spicy chicken ramen and he said it was lovely. Will definitely come back!

One of the best bowls of ramen I've ever had, and certainly the best in Edinburgh. Not the cheapest, but honestly, not unreasonable, and the quality is excellent. Staff are lovely too!

What to say about this place... Best ramen in Edinburgh and is one of these places where you can "taste" the passion chefs put into their dishes. Staff are also very passionate about the business which makes me come back every now and then.

Absolutely amazing. The pistachio crusted pigeon breast with black pudding and daikon might be the best thing I've ever eaten. Everything else was merely brilliant. Go here, you won't regret it.

For the price of £16 I was expecting a really solid ramen but have to admit it was very over complicated and over priced. The broth was solid but was drowned out by the amount of other ingredients and that's excluding the mushrooms. I wouldn't recommend it to other Ramen lovers

Went to this wee place twice and both times I had the shoyu ramen. I loved the cooking point of the noodles, the crispy and flavoursome chicken and the perfect cooked egg. Even the pak choi is incredibly good, not the usual boiled veggie thrown in the broth. I found the broth too salty and I couldn’t finish it because of this, but that’s the only downside. Service is lovely too! Can’t wait to be back ☺️

We've been past this restaurant literally 100's of times, always meaning to have a meal there, but never found the time. Well last week we decided to give it a try. Phoned on the Friday evening to see if we could book a table at short notice and were delighted we were able to. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table by a very pleasant, helpful guy. We ordered a starter and main meal each plus some Cobra beer. The staff were absolutely excellent and served us promptly. Now the important bit ..... the food was awesome, I mean absolutely awesome! The starters are big, you could easily share 1 between 2. The main meals were brilliant and again plentiful. It's a shame we wasted so many years walking past this restaurant. We can't praise them enough, absolutely loved it.

+10 points for the option of the enormous jug of lassi. The Puri Yoghurt Bombs were delicious and a must eat delectable morsel. The service was prompt and friendly - a fresh take on Indian street food (a mix of the new and the traditional). The butter chicken was also delicious!

I phoned to ask about gluten in the dishes and they didn't really know what gluten was. I appreciate that they tried to tell me ingredients of the dishes but I felt uncomfortable ordering from there without clearer information on which items were gluten free. I hope they improve their training and knowledge on this in future and I would be happy to order from there. The guy was very polite and made an effort which was good, but I unfortunately need to feel I can trust a place that they understand the allergens and can give me this information easily.
