Had a hot chocolate & a fruit scone today. The scone was nice but the hot chocolate was the worst I’ve ever had. It was watery I think it was made with water not milk. For the price I would have expected better.

Arrived when it was fairly quiet but waited some time for someone to take our order. Very expensive for what we got a small child’s soup with bread was around £5.00 or and very salty. Chilli beef nachos were ok but small portion and again quite salty no salsa etc just nachos cheddar cheese and small amount of beef for £9.00 .

I've been buying from the farm shop regularly for quite some time as well as visiting the cafe on a number of occasions. Frankly would be lost without it....a completely stress free shopping experience ( that means so much). I am able to park easily, buy fresh, loose veg ( local when available) and other foody items many of which are made on the premises or sourced locally. And I can buy small quantities to suit my particular needs and avoid waste without feeling like I'm wasting folks time...in fact the exact opposite. I am always welcomed in a friendly manner as is (VERY IMPORTANTLY!) my little dog. Everyone is so so helpful, going above and beyond serivce-wise consistently. They even exchange ideas for cooking the veg with me and its always exciting to try new stuff when it appears. I know all the staff must work really hard in a stressful environment....but I can honestly say I've never had a negative experience in all the many many times I've been there.... far from it. Exactly the same goes for the restaurant side too...all the staff give it their all to produce yummy fresh food in a welcoming and cosy atmosphere

We were in the area a fortnight ago and stumbled on this place looking for morning coffee and bite to eat. The food was excellently cooked and the homebaking peerless. I’m a sucker for a scone with jam and wasn’t disappointed, good sized fresh scone and jam made by the farm shop. Some of the scone flavours were a bit challenging but there was plenty for the old school. My wife’s roll on sausage was just as good. A bloke (maybe the owner) came over for a chat and advised that we could buy the conserves in the shop which we duly did together with a superb chilli jam. We visited a couple of times before going home. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I stayed for lunch after a craft workshop held in one of the gorgeous yurts. I had the sausage and chilli jam toastie it came on lovely fresh bread with salad and coleslaw…….absolutely delicious 😋 The waiting staff were great even though it was very busy, very friendly and helpful with questions about about ingredients. I couldn’t make my mind up which amazing looking cake to take home for a treat, so got two. One for today, the spiced apple……..oh my, it was delicious. I’ve got the Caramac to look forward to tomorrow. Looking forward to my next visit already.

We took a visit into the this coffee shop after a walk around the local park. We ordered two bowls of home made soup with a juice and a coffee. The soup was absolutely delicious, we didn't order any of the cakes this time as we were full from the soup. However, when we have visited before, the cakes have always been top notch quality and taste. The Corn Kist really is a hidden gem of a place to visit. The food is always delicious and the staff have always been friendly and welcoming.

We went out of our way to call in here on the way home from our holiday as you can usually rely on farm shop cafes being better than your average eating place. My husband and I ordered 2 filter coffee and 2 minestrone soup and ham rolls. The coffee was only lukewarm so I left mine, the soup was nice as was the ham but I was expecting a white roll and it came on brown. When I went to pay the girl asked if everything had been OK and I told her the coffee was almost cold, she said 'oh' and that was it! No apology, no offer to reduce the bill, nothing, very disappointing. Someone also needs to spell check the menu boards, Minestronie and sandwhich were 2 errors I can remember, it shows a lack of care.

Waited around 10 minutes to be given a table even though one was free but had not been cleared yet. Then waited a further 15 minutes for the waiter to come and take our order. We ordered soup and coffee both were cold. Waiter was not welcoming at all and looked as if she was bothered by us coming. At the end we were given an eye watering bill. Very overpriced for what it is. We have been here before and they were great then but this time they have let us down. Won’t be back.

Last time we visited, the service was also terrible, but we let it go. Today, the service was appalling. We waited over 10 minutes just to get a menu. We then waited a further 20 mins to be served with soup and a sandwich. When it eventually arrived the soup was cold. The girl who served us was not welcoming or friendly in the slightest. Quite the opposite. Bordering on hostile. It was much the same on the last visit. We will not be returning; there are plenty of other places where the service is warm and friendly, and a lot quicker as well.

Excellent little restaurant offering lots of home cooked and local produce. I had the soup and sandwich option which was thoroughly delicious. Up visiting family in Carmyllie, and fancied a cuppa and something sweet. Phoned to book and found they do a 50/50 split between bookable tables and "just turn up". Great idea, as it's one of those places that you'll probably drive past, pop in and want to come back! Though they were booked out, we rocked up and got one of the other tables. They do takeaway too, so it's all good!Service was great, and all COVID precautions taken. Lots of hand gel, clear signage, lots of space between tables and all staff masked and observing guidelines. Felt really clean and safe.Coffee was great but the cakes, the CAKES were amazing! Looks wonderful on Facebook so planned a little lunch, with friends. Very little choice on blackboard and not the choice of cakes / scones we were expecting ( no scones at 1:30 on a Wednesday). Covid rules said everything had to be ordered and paid for before sitting down which I expect is the New Normal. We did feel like an inconvenience to the staff although she did warm up towards the end. Food was OK. Nothing more. Don't be fooled by the lovely pictures online. Congratulations to Elizabeth and everyone at the Cornkist, an outstanding traditional family eaterie. It never lets you down. We usually start off stocking up on our veg then picking up a few things in the shop- sausages, lemon curd, even top quality dates! Everything is reasonably priced. Can't resist a visit to the cafe. If it's early we go for the delicious scones made by Elizabeth who was happy to share her scone making secrets with us and endless coffee and a nice pot of tea. If it is lunch time the soup and sandwich deal is a must. You choose what goes on your freshly made sandwich, amazing portions and value. Decided to go here for coffee and cake this afternoon for a catch up with my parents, despite my parents having experienced poor service the last time they'd been. As they had been ignored the last time when they'd just sat down at an empty table, this time we waited to be seated. No one was working "front of house" or keeping an eye on the numerous very young staff. The waitress who was working the till invited us to sit at an uncleared table and told us someone would be sent to clear our table for us. The couple behind us were also seated at the same time. 10 minutes later our table had still not been cleared but we noticed the couple who came in behind us had not only had their order taken but had been served their drinks. We waited a bit longer when eventually a waitress went to clear another empty table, and another table where the customers were still sitting. My father went over and politely asked if she could prioritise our table as we were new customers and had been asked to sit at that table and told it would be cleared. The waitress was clearly annoyed by this and told my father she does not take orders. She reluctantly came over and cleared the table, along with another waitress who appeared. She was extremely rude in her manner. A few minutes later another waitress came over to take our order - the previous one was nowhere to be seen, and things improved from then on, as this waitress was pleasant and seemed to know what she was doing. The café was busy but far from full and there were plenty staff so service shouldn't have been a problem but the waitresses were clearly poorly trained and had no defined duties, everything was a bit haphazard with no apparent direction. This is the second time my family have received poor service here. Surely it makes sense to clear a table for actual customers first rather than flit about clearing tables with no one sitting at them? Such a shame as the farm shop is lovely but we definitely won't be going back to the café.

Whilst I agree some of the waiting staff could do better, they could speed up for sure. However I've never found Elizabeth the Manager anything but pleasant and chatty. Have had the afternoon tea quite a few times, and they are far superior to any others I've found. Always need a box to take the leftovers home. I can also recommend the toasties, nachos and especially traybakes, The wee shop attached is fab for fresh fruit and veg, in fact all sorts of goodies. I went up at the end to pay for my stuff when I was greeted with who I assume was the boss (a lady in her 30s maybe, with dark hair?) she seemed uninterested to be there and was quite blunt towards me. I also observed the boss lady speaking to the young staff like absolute rubbish and I think this was quite unacceptable.

This lovely little restaurant serves a fairly limited but scrumptious meals. It can also cater for lactose intolerance! I just wish I could eat the cakes. Fairly large car park and a play area for kids. The shop is a wonder with fresh veg, local gin and vodka, Cartmel sticky toffee pudding and antiques! Well worth a visit.

We went for afternoon tea. The service was extremely slow, though the girls who served us were very nice. There was an overwhelming array of food. Sandwiches with bread that was stale, and some savouries that were burned. No really good savouries. Generally, quite disappointing. The scones were cinnamon and Apple - yuck. I would appreciate not getting all the rubbish scones they couldn't sell. And really, only 2 tiny cream cakes for an afternoon tea? Baffling. Not good. Not good at all.

My wife and I were on holiday visiting family. And the cornkist was suggested for lunch. I’m so glad it was, what a great find. Service in the cafe was a bit slow, even though the girls had time to chat. But the food was exceptional. And made up for anything else. We don’t normally have a sweet treat. But the cakes looked so good and they didn’t disappoint. So much so, we got some extras to take away. We then went in to visit the little farm shop. Which had some lovely fresh produce. The girl who served us was very cheerful and had us laughing. All in all we had a great visit and we will be back. When we visit angus again.

Visited as a party of 3 for a quick bite to eat. Despite the restaurant being half empty we had over half an hour to wait on 2 paninis and a sandwich. We were on the brink of leaving when the food eventually arrived. The food was however thankfully tasty and the waitress was very apologetic. We decided to follow with some cakes as there was a nice selection so we went to the counter to order these hoping that we could just get them there and then but we were told to take a seat and someone would come and take the order this unfortunately led to another 10 minute delay.

We have been as a family for a number of afternoon teas at the Corn Kist. They are highly recommended, great quality and lots of cakes and sanwiches both sweet and savory. Unlike many other high teas it is impossible not to leave full up and you get to take home all the leftover cakes.

The restaurant offers a good choice of meals and snacks, waitress service, free parking and an adjacent farm shop, makes it well worth visiting.

My husband and I love coming here for lunch. Everything is tasty and fresh, unfortunately by the time we have had soup and a sandwich ( my husband recommends the the steak baguette) we never have space for the sweet goodies on offer but that will be remedied soon ...... The Afternoon Tea is next on the agenda. Take away a homemade chicken pie for tea you won’t be disappointed. Excellent friendly service

Had just been to Stracathro Hospital and my husband and I were ready for a coffee break but didn't fancy the usual hospital offering. Had spotted an advert for Korn Kist on our drive to hospital. Soo glad we detoured!! What a little gem! And my luck was in- being coeliac, which is NOT a life style choice, gluten free is a must and the Korn Kist delivered. Lovely soup, gluten free toast, lovely smiling staff. My husband enjoyed his great big hog bacon roll and coffee. Enquired about the afternoon tea, which a Gran and granddaughter were enjoying on the next table, and, guess what? they do a gluten free version ?!!. I am now in G/F heaven. One wee tip - it was very busy today (Friday) so maybe arriving after 1.00/1.30. Also the afternoon tea has to be pre booked but looked well worth waiting for. Yum Yum

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea for two recently. The sandwiches were very fresh although the fillings could have included some salad options. Plenty tasty cakes and sweet treats although one or two seemed like they were leftovers (pastry chewy) but maybe that was a consequence of going on a Sunday. Overall lovely experience with a doggy bag for going home! Will be back!

Attached to the Forfar Golf Driving Range, this cafe/restaurant is always busy and, for some reason, despite it being carpeted, is usually quite noisy! The menu is fairly standard with filled rolls, sandwiches, paninis, soup, baked potatoes etc. Prices are reasonable and the service is usually very good. It is light and airy due to the large windows at one end. I like it in part, as I can see the rural house I grew up in from it in the distance.

Splendid Asian food and friendly staff! There's also a place to sit outside. I'll be back again soon!

Gorgeous battered chicken fillets and a fresh fillet of fish. The service was superb and the quality of the food was second to none. We even managed to get a portion of scraps. Best fish and chips we’ve both had in a long time and reasonably priced in comparison to Aberdeen.

We both had a very pleasant full breakfast on 29/10/24 in Purdy’s & were served by two ladies who were very welcoming. Good value. Good vibe. We will definitely go back Thank you!

I was served by a very rude young man named ryanm99, he was very immature and at one point stood on one of the tables and done something he called “cube mouth”, the food was also awful and gave me the skitters.
