Miller & Carter Wheathampstead in St Albans

Even though Miller & Carter is a chain, their Wheathampstead restaurant feels very personal with friendly staff serving good quality nicely cooked steaks. The traditional old building has a cosy atmosphere inside, while the riverside setting means there's a lovely garden to eat in during the summer months. It isn't the cheapest of restaurants, but the quality of food, service and atmosphere makes it good value.

Great experience as always, lovely food and staff were great, we were served by Keely and Luke. Steaks were cooked perfectly and the restaurant surprised us with a birthday desert. We had the steak night set menu so really good value.

We had the fixed price lunch menu and it was really tasty! I think it was great value for money, £16.50 for two courses. Keely was a super friendly and attentive waitress. The building itself is fabulously old and is a lovely place to eat.

Popped by for a midweek lunch, excellent value menu and Keely took great care of us. Request a table overlooking the river if you can.

We had a leisurely 2-course lunch menu. The brocoli was rather stringy, but otherwise our main courses and desserts were all excellent. Our server, Keely, made us very welcome and the restaurant had a very pleasant atmosphere.

This was our first time at this restaurant. We had heard so many good things about it that we thought we must try it. When my husband booked the table he was asked it if was for a 'special occasion'. It was, it was my birthday. So when we arrived, we were asked and re-iterated the reason for the visit. The staff were very friendly and the meal was exceptional. However, the only disappointment was that I didn't even get offered a free coffee for my birthday. Why ask if its for a special occasion if nothing is offered !! When you spend in the region of £140 for two people, come on Miller & Carter, you could at least offer a small glass of wine or coffee free ?

Food was amazing, staff very friendly and Keely our waitress is worth her waiting gold and definitely should be made manager. She went above and beyond, thank you!

The pub was nice and relaxed and the music volume was just right Our server, Belinda, was very friendly, spent the right amount of time with us and was totally professional and courteous throughout our stay

Just had a wonderful experience in Wheathampstead. On arrival was met by a lovely gentleman who seated us. We were then looked after by Gill and was not disappointed. Gill recommended food and wine choices. She was wonderful and attentive whilst also managing other tables. Nice place! Very comfortable and elegant decorated pub. The staff was nice. The food: we selected the option of three courses per 19,50£. It is good quantity and good quality. It was a pitty but the burgers were overcooked, very welldone! It was difficult to eat. The entry and the dessert was tasty and good.

Katie at the Wheathampstead branch could not have done more to make our experience brilliant if she tried. She was hard working, diligent and even spotted a minor kitchen error in our order and corrected it before we could notice it ourselves! Venue was very nice and the food was absolutely delicious. We will hope to be back soon.

A wonderful venue with a great atmosphere. We visited for our 16th wedding anniversary. The staff were excellent. The Ribeye steak was to die for, especially with the dripping sauce. Its not cheap but you get what you pay for. Well worth a visit. Will definatley go back.

Good food. Ok service up until about 10:20 when we felt like we had to leave even though it stated they shut at 11. Wedge dressings come out halfway through mains. Not all of our order come out. Had to remind server we were missing items.

Food was great, Hayley didn’t do anything was actually very polite but didn’t really like her vibe 🧢 all in all very happy with experience. Hayley how do you not like ice cream.

The food choices were great, plus there were gluten free option. A bit disappointed that the Pinada Colada cocktail I wanted was unavailable due to a lack of ingredients. But the alternative Mango Daiquiri was very delicious.

I had the best experience! I had originally come for a dinner date with my boyfriend for his birthday. As he was looking forward to a high quality cooked steak and lettuce wedge with his favourite blue cheese topping on. We have visited many times before and have always had such lovely experiences. This particular time however you all did amazing. My boyfriend took over his own birthday meal to propose to me! Your staff were phenomenal in helping him bring it altogether without me suspecting a thing! (I did say yes!) I apologise for forgetting our waitresses name but she was so very lovely to us and my children and did everything to help it all go smoothly and calm his nerves. Everything was so special and I can’t thank you enough for the great food, brilliant atmosphere and lovely team! We will be returning very soon!

Service great waitress lovely food steaks were lovely burgers delicious. The only negative was scallops on pea puree was a disappointment, far to much puree, didn't tast of fresh pea,it was so claggy and heavy , 4 small scallops 3 pieces of chorizo and a mountain of puree!!!! Was quite disappointed in the banoffee pie we took to go. Was not as advertised, banana was not caramelised as mentioned in the menu. Food from the kids menu was inedible, plates hardly touched. Service impeccable as always though!

Food and service were great, however the table we were seated at near the pass ruined or meal because of the noise of staff collecting meals but mainly the sorting of cutlery was so continuous and and really intrusive on what was our anniversary meal. Came in on a reservation last night (14/2/24) for a valentines meal with my fiance. Greeted by a gentleman, checked in and due to being early we was offered to sit by the bar and have a drink whilst we waited for our slot. Atmosphere was warm and relaxing. We were seated at 8.45pm in a lovely section of the steakhouse. Our waitress Keely was punctual and did everything to make our experience great. She checked in several times which was really nice, making sure we had everything we needed. Considering it was so busy due to the date, everyone I saw done an amazing job turning over tables and serving in a timely manner. I know this is not the restaurants fault but the only thing that spoiled the night a little was the couple sat opposite us, swearing and arguing the whole time we was seated. It made us a little uncomfortable. Other than that we had a lovely night. Thank you
