Miller & Carter Steakhouse in Edinburgh, City of

We always go to Glasgow city / newton means. which are always fantastic. We stood waiting to be seated for over 5 minutes. When we got seated the waiter wasn’t very polite. When our food came the butcher block the medium steak was over cooked. The chips were re heated they were very dark in colour. The lobster tail didn’t have a lot of meat. Half rack of ribs was great. Very disappointing especially in the city of Edinburgh. Definitely be sticking to Glasgow miller & carter.

The food was delicious, the service was even better. We went for our anniversary dinner and absolutely loved it. The food was 10/10, the efficiency and attentiveness of the service was 11/10. Will definitely be coming back next time we're in Edinburgh.

Warm welcome and sat promptly. Staff was pleasant, though I had to knock 1 star off as it was a bit slow at times. But overall friendly and professional. Onto the food. I had the scallops to start with which were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the steak was a let down. We had been to Miller and Carter before and have very much enjoyed it. However, this time around the steak was tough and a bit undercooked. I've had many rumps in my life but this one just didn't seem of best quality. I have asked for my steak to be medium rare but it was more on the rare side. Not a huge issue for me but if you specialise in steaks, I'd expect that it to be to my liking. The cheesecake was unavailable, so we just had coffees instead. I'm hoping this was a one off. I would probably try again but not in a rush any time soon.

We had the fixed price lunch yesterday ,plenty to choose from ,all food was delicious, our female server was very pleasant and chatty and was lovely to meet Margaret 😁would definitely go back if we had enough time in our short stay.

Served by Marika this evening and she was as AMAZING!!

Not a good experience today. Service was slow. Not enough serving staff in the restaurant I had received, by email on the 7th October a £10 voucher to be used on the A La Carte menu . I showed this QR Code to our waitress at the reception area when we arrived she scanned it with her tablet. She said it did not go through probably because we had not given her our food order yet. Half way through our meal we had to ask for a steak knife. We also had to ask for the lettuce wedge half way through our meal. One of my party asked for steak well done. Three quarters of the steak was raw. When I received our bill I once again showed our waitress the QR code and she said it had been declined as it had been used. I can only guess that the error was made when it was scanned before we ordered our meal. Manager not very helpful . Our waitress was helpful in having £5 deducted for the issue with the steak. I was very disappointed with the whole experience. I will definitely not return to Miller & Carter restaurant Frederick Street Edinburgh.

Blame them. The location of the table was at the service entrance or the service table, and this is the thing I hate most, even though the restaurant was not crowded and the employee in charge of our table provided poor and uncooperative service, but she was forced to work, and this is not my problem. I was hoping to find the orange guy who was very helpful and excellent in his dealings, and he is the reason I returned to the place. But there was no reason to prevent us from enjoying the restaurant. The quality of meat they serve with the sauces is very excellent👍

Despite arriving very late due to traffic, my partner & I were treated like stars. 1 star removed from food as a small mistake was made but the quality of food was still superb!

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with our recent dining experience at your restaurant. We had made a reservation specifically to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and we were quite excited about the occasion. Despite the initial positive interactions, including a warm birthday greeting at the entrance, the experience was marred by a significant oversight. The most crucial part of the celebration, the birthday candle on the dessert, was unfortunately missed. To make matters worse, we witnessed another table celebrating a birthday and receiving the proper dessert presentation. While our waiter was apologetic, a simple solution would have been to provide a replacement dessert with a candle. This would have rectified the situation and made our special occasion truly memorable. We hope that you will take our feedback seriously and implement measures to prevent such oversights in the future. We expect a higher level of service, especially when special occasions are involved. P.S. Given a benefit of the doubt to our waiter as he was not the one who served us our desserts he might not noticed it. So I would like to say if I remember correctly his name Mickey his service was very good. Actually the person who served us our desserts was the same guy (tall, slim with glasses) as at the entrance who greeted us and wished my husband a happy birthday. Bar service was good on arrival. Nothing else stood out as particularly good, hence the reason for me completing this survey. The restaurant is getting tired and for premium prices it should be premium surroundings.

Kateryna was lovely and make our experience very nice . It was my boyfriend’s birthday and she got a very nice plate saying happy birthday with ice cream .

We dined at Miller & Carter in Edinburgh City Centre and ordered the Butcher’s Block, which was outstanding! The selection, quality, and tenderness of the meat made it a memorable experience. The £90 price tag for two was absolutely worth it given the generous portions and top-notch quality. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an excellent steak experience in Edinburgh!

Excellent steakhouse. A large choice of meat, perfectly cooked, for an excellent meal. The desserts are delicious, but you have to save room. Fair price, choose the menu!

Absolutely fantastic place. Arrived early and asked if it was OK to be seated. They let us sit at the front and enjoy a drink, then seated us once the table was ready. Great service. Then enjoyed a beautiful 2 course meal. The food was out of this world. Beautifully presented, and the taste was just so good. I'd fully recommend giving this place a go. It's certainly on the cards for a return visit from me.

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Silvia was a true gem! So lovely and knowledgeable about the food. We opted for a sharing butchers block. Our only issue was one of the fillet steaks came out almost blue, while the other was cooked medium rare as requested. The other steaks were cooked to perfection. Sides were perfect, sauces were perfect. Drinks were great! Would definitely come back!

There is a lunch menu before 5 o'clock, but they don't let me order. I have to wait until after 5 o'clock to order at full price. It's very unscientific.

Honestly, the meat I ordered disappointed me quite a bit because of the poor quality and because it was practically a shoe sole, it is not worth the price at all and to top it all off, if it is a steak restaurant you need meat knives in good condition.

The Sunday set menu is incredibly worth it! Best deal on the market for a steakhouse. So if you are looking to visit this restaurant, definitely do it on a Sunday!

During our holiday in Edinburgh, we discovered the highly-rated Miller & Carter Steakhouse on Google Maps and were eager to give it a try. The location is very central and easily accessible, making it convenient for visitors. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and seated right away. As first-time visitors, we were initially unsure about the ordering process, but a friendly and attentive Basque waiter (unfortunately, we forgot his name) explained everything clearly, putting us at ease and allowing us to place our order without any confusion. We both ordered steaks with sides, followed by dessert. The steaks were perfectly fine—nothing extraordinary but still well-prepared, and the prices felt fair for the quality. However, the real highlight of the meal was the dessert, which was absolutely delicious and left a lasting impression. Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience, particularly thanks to the exceptional service provided by the Basque waiter. He was incredibly attentive, patient, and had a great eye for detail, making our visit even more enjoyable. We would definitely come back again. Thank you for the steak!

Ordered a burger, and my waitress definitely judged me for getting a side salad. Food was pretty good - burger was greasy to the point it was difficult to eat but I enjoyed the barbacoa Mac and cheese. Price wasn't too bad overall

It's a very good restaurant. The meat is very tender and the setting very pretty. We had several people serve us, two very nice ones and one rather rude waitress. We were surprised by the way the salad was served... We had to wait a few minutes before being seated even though we arrived right on time, but we had a great time and ate well.

Used to be my favourite restaurant, but it's really gone downhill. The seats stained my clothes, and the service was abysmal; I've never had to force a business to take a payment before, but after a 20 mins wait I had no option. In the end we managed a main and a drink each, but gave up after that.

The restaurant equivalent of a Ryanair flight to Magaluf. Dirty, poor quality and cold surroundings, mediocre and surly service, limited drinks menu and below average food. Onion loaf more solid than a diamond. Extremely poor value and beyond disappointing. Saw other people complaining and leaving unhappy. Tried to raise concerns but received a general dismissive approach. Avoid. There are many better restaurants nearby.

Always a great experience whenever I go to Miller and Carter, T-Bone steak was phenomenal and cooked to perfection, sides came out slightly late and similar service with the dessert, waiting around for too long but when it arrived it was worth it, would always recommend and will return

The service at this restaurant was great. We were seated right away and the waitstaff came by at reasonable intervals to check in. The ambiance is very casual for a steakhouse. The food was fine. Definitely edible but more in line with the quality of a Texas Roadhouse than Ruth's Chris or Capital Grille - the pricing aligns with this quality point so this makes sense. Steak was dry and underseasoned. Portions were large. The wine list is limited and I do not recommend the espresso martini - cloying sweet and sour at the same time. Overall, our experience was fine but nothing to write home about. That being said, I don't understand the super high star reviews for this place, maybe we came on an off night. With all of the other restaurant options in Edinburgh, I probably would not eat here again.

Attractive and elegant restaurant, specializing in meat. We tried the Angus beef, as it is indigenous. The dishes are very complete and the service excellent. Susan looked after us very well throughout the dinner. We will recommend you!

Had a disappointing dinner here, firstly we were told they didn't have several menu items even though we went to dinner quite early in the evening. The cuts of lamb in one of our main meals had large chunks of fat, some roughly half of the cutlet was fat. The restaurant manager responded adequately by comping this meal. The staff were very attentive and quick to respond to the issues raised.

Not been for a couple of years but hate to say it’s gone a bit downhill. Cannot fault the service as it was excellent but the food was average at best especially considering the prices. Luke warm starter, sirloin contained more gristle than you would reasonably expect, overly chewy onion dish on side of main course had clearly been left under a hot light as was not crispy which I thought the intention would be. Doubt we’ll return which is a shame as it was one of the best steak places around.

Nice place for having good meat combined with wine, great service

We were walking around the city looking for a suitable location for something to eat, by chance we came across this place and the food is fantastic. The music was very loud at the tables against the wall towards the kitchen, which detracted from the atmosphere. Also highly recommended is a local beer, although this restaurant is mainly about the wine.

My mother in law and I ate here for dinner on our last night in Edinburgh. I got the grilled salmon fillet which was a huge portion and delicious 🤤 we also split the salted caramel cookie with ice cream for dessert and it was divine! Marika was very attentive(and funny!) , and really helped make our experience 😁

The first time I visited Miller & Carter in Edinburgh was totally satisfactory. My wife had the fillet which was cooked just as she asked and came with the sauce she specified and plenty of vegetables. I had pork ribs that were perfectly prepared, falling off the bone and delicious. But, what really prompted me to post a review was the service provided to us by Marika what struck that perfect balance between attentiveness and inconspicuousness, wit and charm that makes a well-prepared meal a memorable dining experience. While it is unlikely that life’s variables will bring me back to Edinburgh, I wanted to share my memory of Miller & Carter, and Marika. Cheers!

Chips were cold & hard. Creamed spinach was just cold. Both due to the air conditioning being on at full blast, but food probably could have been warmer when leaving the kitchen. The steak was over cooked in places. Wine & cocktails were great, as was the service. However, we came for the food and that was really disappointing compared to previous visits so this will probably be our last time at M&C.

Really enjoyed our first experience at Miller and Carter we will definitely be back!

Been here two days in a row, food was amazing, had the sticky chicken for starters twice, first night the fillet steak, which was very nice in a medium-rare. Second day the chateaubriand, which was perfect aswel. Great staff, recommend booking!

Frederick Street has been the best one I've been to. Our waitress was fantastic, steak cooked perfectly and good value for money with the lunchtime set menu.
