Miller & Carter Burton in East Staffordshire

Wow! What can I say, so pleasantly surprised, couldn’t fault the place, the food was amazing and so worth the money and the staff so attentive and warm and welcoming, we had a very bad experience about 11yrs ago at the one in Sutton Coldfield, dead fly in the salad and warm champagne while celebrating our anniversary, so when my husband got a leaving gift voucher for miller and carter we were a little disappointed, as we were reluctant to go there again, we checked the reviews and it wasn’t great, so we decided to look at all of them and their reviews and burton seem to come up trumps, so we thought let’s give it a go, and I’m so glad we did, we will definitely be returning, it’s a shame it’s a bit of a drive, but it will be worth it every now and again for a little treat, I would highly recommend this place, I recommend the burrata for a starter, absolutely gorgeous 👌🏻

I was looking forward to treating my wife and my son to a meal here having personally eaten regularly at miller and carter lowton. I was disappointed, it’s not a patch on the other. My steak was awful. To be fair they cooked another, much better steak , but my wife and son and eaten theirs when mine came. Spoilt the occasion. The staff at pleasant and friendly but the service is slow. Miller and carter isn’t cheap so I expect the quality and service to come with these prices . Sadly it wasn’t there and I won’t be returning .

We love eating at Miller and Carter, Burton on Trent, and this evening we met our friends for an evening out together. We had the 3 course menu and all enjoyed our food. We all thought it was a good menu and would have been happy with a number of the choices. The food was well presented, plentiful and very tasty. We were looked after all though by Jess who was so very helpful, even when we wanted to make a few tweaks to our order. A thoroughly lovely evening!

While my overall experience was good as has many Miller and Carter visits before it, corners are being cut on some dishes and areas. The experience at the Burton venue is always consistent. Staff are pleasant and service is always at a good pace. The star of the show, the steak (Sirloin) was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I just can’t help but feel price increases are becoming more regular. While this is standard across the industry it seems to be hitting the plate too, which is a shame. The chicken piece starter came significantly smaller than our pre Christmas visit. The lobster tale was extremely small on this visit. Again ‘shrinkflation’. I’ve paid over £10 for this to be added to my steak. It was no more than 3 inches including the shell. Very underwhelming. Additionally, the points collection system or loyalty app is misleading. Every main meal/£15 spent you earn points. I only received one stamp or 100 points for spending over £120 on a single bill for two people. I stand by Miller and Carter as one of the stronger chains to get a great steak. It is our go to ‘treat’ every month or two. However, it is getting close to the line where the central management and procurement teams are pushing way too hard on the margins. It is a more premium experience than typical high street chains but the reduction in dish sizes while prices continue to rise worries me long term. How long before the steak quality is next? The service was great, hence the 4 stars and the steak held its own. The app doesn’t exactly ‘reward’ despite a more recent update. Unless improvements are made to menu specs I worry the chain will suffer long term. We certainly will be looking at other options for our bi-monthly treat unless we get some value back on the plate and quality of non steak plates.

Went on Friday 8th Nov, 3 friends! Ordered from 3 course deal, all of us ordered the cheesy mushrooms which were filling, plates were whipped away & hot on its heels was our mains, two ordered the steak sandwich - which were cold, the desserts were also extremely disappointing but the creme brûlée wasn’t even worth dirtying the dish, & was definitely not a proper brûlée with a burned sugar top! I am still awaiting a response to my customer feedback a week ago! Very disappointing visit!

Great service by Wez drinks came promptly, came as a group for my dad and husbands birthdays food was stunning from starters,mains and a great new cheese board for pudding. Keep up the good work guy’s.

The food was ok but the service was terrible mains arrived while we were eating starters also had to ask for cutlery to eat mains. Had to ask for water twice even though we asked for it on our first drinks order. Overall spoiled our dinning experience on this occasion 😡

Food was cold after sitting on the pass for 20 mins. Starters came out before our drinks although ordered before. Manager sent over a guy to deal with complaint. Clearly he did not care and his staff showed a poor attitude that obviously he sets the base line. Considering we have often gone there, it will certainly be the last time.

Gutted, we go to this restaurant a lot in 3 locations in and around Liverpool, but every time we go to this chain at another location we have bad experiences, Banbury being the worst. So Burton on Trent, we managed to book fine online for a friday evening, got there at 19.30 and was seated straight away, but it went downhill from here, waited at least 20 minutes without any interaction, luckily the manager noticed the issue and asked us what drinks we wanted, we then ordered from the waitress a starter and mains, waited another 30 mins before again the manager came over and said our order had got lost and our mains where getting done as we spoke, we then pointed out we needed our starter, this came shortly after and then another long wait for mains, people who had come same time as us and some after at this point had been had a meal and where going. The meal itself was lovely when it eventually arrived and up to Miller and Carter's usual standards, however by then I was that hungry I probably would have ate anything, they also forgot my scallops but by then I was passed caring. The manager did her best to fix things and gave us a little discount hence the better star rating however it's another bad experience outside of our home town so I think we will give this chain a miss from now on on our travels, sorry.

Service was brilliant, food didn’t quite hit the spot, cauliflower florets were burnt to a crisp, left a bad taste. Buttered greens were surprisingly chewy… Steak was a little more on the rare side than a med rare like asked, nothing too major just an off night perhaps.

Decidedly average. Welcome took a few minutes but was good. Initially the ordering was fine. Food and drinks came out promptly but after that. Downhill No check back Steak not cut cooked properly, slightly underdone, which for a ribeye ruins the experience. New potatoes obviously microwaved. Visited the restaurant this evening with my wife and must say what a thoroughly enjoyable meal we have had. Food and service exceptional, this a restaurant where the chefs know how the cook a steak whilst ensuring the taste and flavour is not compromised. Would like to thank everybody in the Burton restaurant and if you have never been, go, you’ll love both the food and service.

Usually our favourite Miller & Carter restaurant but unfortunately tonight our waitresses lack of customer service and helpfulness left us feeling a little cheated. We usually like to enjoy the service provided when we frequent this restaurant and always tip heavily for a good service and an enjoyable experience. However this evening has left a sour taste on our usual experience. The waitress was extremely abrupt and could only be likened to a strict headmaster. She was extremely unhelpful and made it as difficult as possible to use our collected stamps to redeem money off. The food was excellent as always, just the waiting on staff that let it down. This experience was not what you expect when you consider the Miller & Carter brand and reputation.

Amazing food, great restaurant and friendly staff and atmosphere. We came here for a Mother’s Day lunch - all of the food ordered looked and tasted amazing, the fillet steak was the best I have had in a long time and we will definitely be back. Came in tonight for our delayed valentines meal, the food was exceptional. We tried some lovely cocktails and the service from Wez was great, she was so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and we’ll be coming back again definitely.

Met a colleague for dinner, had a great meal but the experience was tainted by the £100 parking fine issued by Euro car Parks. Poor lighting and signage to inform of the need to register your vehicle with the restaurant, it wouyld have been useful if the restaurant staff had informed custom ers of the need to register their vehicle when they were greeted at the enterance.

Me and my partner paid £150 on new years eve for 3 courses and the whole evening was a nightmare. We booked our table for 8:30pm and when we arrived we were asked to get a drink at the bar whilst we wait for our table. We stood up waiting for over 50 minutes until we were finally showed to our table. The waiter then took our drinks order and told us that there weren't any glasses but as soon as some come available he’d bring them over. We then ordered our starters of which came out and then we were told there were no Spoons!! After a 10 minute wait we were finally given spoons, by this time the soup was cold. We had planned to be home before 12 that evening to see some fireworks so had to ask for our deserts to be boxed up as we had been in there for hours at that point. I understand new years is a very busy time but not having enough glasses and Cutlery is unacceptable. This is no reflection on the waiter as he was clearly rushed off his feet and was very apologetic. The overall management of the restaurant however was very poor!! The fact we waited 50 minutes for our pre booked table isn’t on. £150 is a lot of money to spend when you get treated like this.

Having previously visited earlier this year for Valentine’s Day and had a great experience we thought we’d return for NYE. Our table was booked at 8.45 we eventually sat down at about 9:15 after standing around in the bar area waiting, given no menus as we sat, dirty knife on table, and had to wait a further 15 minutes to order. Given our included prosecco mine was lovely and fizzy my partner clearly had the last dregs of an already open bottle as his was hardly fizzy. Our waitress was lovely, polite, sorted my dirty knife promptly, and i could see they were rushed off their feet but all working very hard. Food was amazing very enjoyable can’t fault the food at all, it did take a little longer to receive, we got our mains at 10.10pm. All in all once sat very good experience, at almost £65 a head not sure if that is justified but again it was NYE and everywhere puts prices up, will return in the future

Christmas Dinner was such a disappointment. We've had Christmas Dinner here twice before and it was great. Yesterday was not, sadly. The service was painfully slow. Booked for 12.30 and eventually got mains at 1.45. We were still there at 3.15. The gaps between the courses became uncomfortably long. The starters were good. However, the turkey mains and the seabass mains were really poor. The veg was all very hard including what my husband described as raw cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese. I had seabass but one peice was very overcooked so it was very dry. The seabass meal mainly a plate full of hard (almost raw) green beans and tenderstem brocoli. Thankfully the small amount of dauphonoise potatoe was nice. Mum and I left most of the veg as it was so undercooked. At the start of the meal the waitress asked if we would be wanting any extra pigs in blankets and roasts etc with turkey dinners, which I immediately thought was odd. Why would we need more on a Christmas dinner costing so much? Surely each plate would have enough potato, veg and pigs in blankets to start with? So I checked with the waitress that she meant additional as part of what I had already paid for not extra. She said yes. However, at the end they tried to charge us for extras!! I now realise that the items were being offered and charged because each turkey dinner was being served with a tiny single pig in blanket and 3 small roasts (no other potato). In previous years potatos, veg and trimming had been plentiful from the start. Three of us chose the cheesecake for our dessert. Unfortunately, it was clearly the type brought in frozen and they were all dry and chewy like they had partually defrosted at some point and then been frozen before serving later once thawed. The cheesecake part was flat and chewy. Mine was the worse so I gave up and asked for ice-cream from kids menu instead. I was not offered any reduction for the price of my meal. The others asked for cream to try and make the cheesecake more pallitable. We ordered drinks that didn't arrive. When we asked for them the waitress went to put the order through again (chargeable) rather than getting the ones we'd ordered before. My son wanted to ring the bell at the end, which was ironic given how bad the food was and how drawn out the meal had been. However, to keep him happy I kept quiet and let him do it and smiled politely. We also still left a tip for the waitress as the delays and poor food was not her fault. The chefs were working flat out but just couldn't keep up with the number of covers. This will explain why the veg was served almost raw (ie for speed). Overall the meal was far too much money for such a poor experience on Christmas Day. Ordinarily I would have complained there and then and asked for a partial refund on prepaid meal but obviously that approach would have felt uncomfortable for my party on Christmas Day. Interestingly, I notice on Facebook that some people have said they enjoyed their meal on Christmas Day. Maybe they had the steak with lettuce weg (no veg) and Christmas pudding for Dessert. I 2wisph I had chosen these as the chefs are more used to cooking steak and I saw some Christmas puddings coming out which looked okay. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant as a place for Christmas or a special occasion because you can't get the time back if it goes wrong.
