I was part of a group which ate at the Winter Mill restaurant in January 2024, and sadly none of us will be looking to repeat the experience. The soup starter was indifferent, but problems really began with the main courses, which in my case consisted of what was quite-obviously the starter version of the dish I’d ordered. Our waitress saw nothing wrong with the very-small portion offered, but was eventually prevailed upon to return with the full-size version of the dish. This was thankfully a bit warmer than the original offering, although the “grilled halloumi” centrepiece was actually deep-fried. We should have probably cut our losses at this point, but instead requested the dessert menu, which was duly presented after an interval of about fifteen minutes. Several of us ordered the sticky toffee pudding, which was tepid and stale to the extent that most of us abandoned our attempts to eat. Our waitress, once again, saw no reason to remark on dishes being returned three-quarters uneaten. I’ve given two stars rather than one as my dining companions fared somewhat better with their mains. The Winter Mill confidently aspires to the prices of a quality contemporary restaurant, but makes no effort to provide commensurate standards of food or service.

Sunday carvery. 9 adults and 2 children went to the hotel for Sunday lunch. The food was great but the service was terrible. After being shown to our table it took 10min to get a drinks order. Our starter plates where removed when we returned with our main but when we finished our meal half the table was cleared and after 15 min we had to ask for the rest of the table to be cleared and desert menus given out. It was not busy and there were plenty of staff but all seemed to be young and inexperienced and not very interested in working. When you’re paying over £300 for a family lunch you do expect better in a 4 star hotel.

We had a lunch for the first time here and in arrival sought out the Mill Race Restaurant. A waiter sort of grunted the direction when we asked where it was with little interest in us. On arrival for our booked table we were seated right away. There we waited for bit and eventually menus were brought. I asked for a well known non alcoholic cocktail but they hadn't the stuff to make it, so settled for orange instead. I then asked about the contents of the fish pie, but the waitress didn't know what was in it, however it was prawns, haddock, possibly salmon and something else that started with 'H'! Off she went to find out and didn't come back for a while. In the meantime we ordered scampi and chips. We were told the 'H' in the pie was colley and that there was no salmon in it! The scampi and chips were fine, but my wife's wine was missing so she had to ask again for it. The black garlic mushrooms looked not in the least black nor did they taste of garlic. The requested water never came until the meal was over Other diners were being apologised to for the lateness of their meals. One course was enough as the dessert selection looked a bit ordinary. Our bill came to the same amount as in The Boathouse a few days before despite only 2 mains, whereas we had 2 starters, 2 mains and a dessert there, albeit with an fizzy orange and a G&T this time. An apology for the poor service was made as the place was 'mental' allegedly. We are not likely to return.

Ordered a double cheese burger and it did not have cheese and sauce, just plain and dry burger buns, patty and bacon and I almost choked on it.

Hit and miss. Medium fries from here usually is less than what u get from a happy meal. UK McDonald should stop giving out those cardboard happy meal toys. You are not saving the environment, you are wasting the resources for making it.

Advertisers open until 8pm - arrived at 7:15pm and it was closed. Right beside an airport where people wait - don’t understand why it would close early.

Can’t believe it’s £8 for two bits of cheap bread and bacon. Bacon was good quality but for £8 I’d expect a bit more bacon and at least some fresh bread rather than slices from a processed loaf. Service was nice and coffee was ok
