Mile and a Third in Southend-on-Sea

Came here for birthday drinks, excellent selection of beers, including craft and special ales. Table serving here. Gentleman serving looked a bit burned out. Seemed apathetic.

Love little gem in westcliff. Fabulous range of local and imported beers. Service has always been top notch and other bars could take note. Knowledge and friendly. Can't fault it. Although of you're looking for a carling. Look elsewhere

Honestly unbelievable selection of beers, friendly staff and customers. I moved to Southend from London and was worried about the transition, but this place is way better than my old London haunts. Highly recommended. Great music too.

Mainly craft keg but some cask beers on too. All from quality brerwers and kept very well. There is a nice vibe in this ' not your normal bar'. Very enjoyable. Thank you

Don’t even think about it And if for some reason you do don’t get a JD and coke, I’d rather drink sea water

Not a cosy atmosphere but has a large selection of drinks. Asked for their non-alcohol drinks and if they have mocktails. Staff proceeds to list off “mocktails” and I choose one. Then I double check it’s alcohol free (I’m pregnant) and she says “no”…. I told her I’d just have a coca-cola. She brought out some organic off brand coke (nearly £5). It was not what I asked for. Turns out this bar doesn’t even serve branded coke/cola. There are cosier places nearby with better atmosphere, drinks and food for the same price.

Great place for great beer. We walked 3 1/2 miles to try some seasonal stout, well worth it. Owners and staff really know their stuff. The vinyl music is a treat and the loo is the best stocked pub loo I've been in.

Always get a good beer in The Mile and a Third, whether you like craft beer or cask ales, or both. If you like heavy rock and Southend United, this is pub has it all!.

Very nice and friendly staff gearing up for Halloween The beers on offer were well kept and reasonable price for London adjacent. Obviously popular with many returning customers Sadly I did not have long to be there, would happily spend all night

I enjoyed my visit here as the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was good; they were playing vinyl records for background music. However, I don't like that they don't accept cash. For someone who only spends in cash, this was a let down for me as I had to ask my friend to pay. I'm sure they have good reasons but I would not visit again for this reason.

If you like high quality craft beer then this is the place to come, it has THE best selection of beers you could ask for. So would definitely recommend a visit if you haven't been. My suggestion to the owners would be to extend the opening hours eg from 10pm to 11pm on Friday. Also some more customer service would be welcomed, the women serving are always courteous but to the guys: a hello and a smile costs nothing! :)

Great craft beer bar. Huge selection of beers, of all varieties, pales, IPAS, stouts, sours....whatever takes your fancy. Often metal on the vinyl being played which actually isn't bad, even as a non fan, but tons of board games to play, so on a busy evening there's always a buzz about the place.

Only one staff. Poor wine, i was sitting next to someone smoking. Not a good experience.

First visit, good friendly service comfortable seating never ate there maybe next time, food looked good.

If would you like enjoy a half. At the third can be your best choice. Beautiful beer fruit flavour.

A poor show. staff were grumpy and we couldn't get to the bar to get served as there were tables stored and piled up in front of it. behind the bar looked a total mess and unhygienic. Wont be returning.

It's a pretty awesome place with a good selection of craft beer. If you've got someone with you who is a coffee drinker - sadly they don't serve coffee but have soft drinks available. The place could use some bit of a tidy up. But if a bit of untidiness doesn't bother you, you'll probably enjoy the experience. They also have a TV for sports events.

Love it here. Favourite gin is sold which is the Ole Palma violet gin

Friendly knowledgeable owners, great rock and metal tunes, a cool range of board games, and fantastic beer that rotates regularly. The bathroom also has an array of sprays and feminine products for anyone who gets caught short which I respect. Anyone I've ever taken there loves it!

Disappointed, had high hopes on this but poorly set out, staff ignored us till we had to point out we where waiting, could be fantastic if it had some investment and a better management. Maybe a grower in future and I eat my hat, hope so

The beer selection is excellent, the music selection wonderful (played the whole of Paranoid followed by Master of Reality - both incredible albums). Who would have thought it was ever possible to have such great music in a brew pub? The place was packed on a Thursday night. The surroundings eclectic.

Small-ish place that offers a surprisingly wide range or beers, cider and ales. Staff are really nice. If you're looking for a quiet drink with some mate, they've go boardgames too. I'll be going again.

The best place for Craft beer in Westcliff. Quirky owners and great choice of music - at least for us. We enjoy classic rock and rock music in general. The volume is never too high, so as well as a good Craft, one can enjoy a conversation. Mile and a Third is our first choice for drinks in Westcliff! 👍🍻 🙂

First place I tried in a new area, very good beers with great advice on beers, responsible drinking taken into consideration. Ask for advice on flavours and tastes, you may only need a couple!!

Great place for craft ales and lagers

A revolving menu of interesting beers, ales, and ciders. Music played at conversational levels. A “no shenanigans” policy. Love it.

Quirky "shabby chic" decor, very knowledgeable barstaff (Andie & Nick) - excellent and ever-changing craft ale menu with several choices !!! VISIT!! :-)

We’ve been visiting this place on and off since it opened, every Friday after work. We could visit the Hamlet court over the road but we’re not desperate to get drunk- we like Mile and Third as it’s unique and eclectic. I’m drawn to places that aim to be different and although there are other tap rooms locally, they don’t give you the passion the brothers find in all the ales, stouts and ciders they get in. You’ll get regular changes and they know everything about each brewery and each beer!! They also play their music on a Rega turntable which coincidently is where we work and what I build thousands of each year!!!! Keep it going boys.

Warm beer not great pity as been before and had some great ales

Totally unacceptable behaviour by the rude staff, bar has potential if the get better staff. Was meeting a friend twenty feet away from the pub and they think you’re doing a runner before you’ve even ordered. The place is clearly desperate and empty on a hot Saturday night. Shame really

Great take out options available

Feels a bit cheap and very quickly thrown together. Staff seem up their up bum. Not a great atmosphere personally, outside on a pavement next to a main road with no greenery and dirty looking.

Amazing venue, great music and nice beers selections

This is as '2 guys trying a business' as you can imagine, I salute them, and hope they make it!!! What they lack in business acumen, they make up for in passion. Spend your money at this venue every chance you get!

Very nice spot to sip and sample some fine brews and listen to the owner’s record collection. This was a half pint of Mail Order Martian while listening to Tesla unplugged. A nice way to wile away an afternoon. And they have AirCon! UPDATE: they've adapted wll to COVID-19. Staff in gloves and masks, partitioned entrance, spread out tables. Iron Maiden Beer! It is always good to frequent local independent businesses. They are a part of the community as much as you are. It's a place to say a friendly hello, exchange some news and just have a chat. So much more needed in these more socially isolated days thanks to the global pandemic. This is the new normal now, so while you can order stuff online, don't forget to keep your local businesses alive. You'd really miss them when they're gone. Not just for the convenience, but for the quality and as I mentioned social aspect. The internet means you can get almost anything online, but you can't do the people watching or browse a counter and try something new. Or get the smell of something good you want to try. Let's hope these businesses survive. It is us to us fellow customers!

Nice beer, went there about 3.30pm on NYE. Guy behind counter did not have much of a personality, but would try again.

Andy and Nick are enthusiasts about quality and have all the tried and tested products.You do not get this in most outlets nowadays.It has only a single toilet which is the downside.Woody and quirky inside, l enjoy it.
