An excellent meal. I note there have been one or two negative recent reviews for the Mildmay. All I will say is that our meal was excellent in every way. Excellent service and excellent food. A very enjoyable evening

Visited here on a whim trying to find a nearby place to eat and I can't say I'll return. Ordered the spicy chicken burger... The burger was a butterflied breast with a hint of red flavour (but didn't taste of anything) it/the salad was weirdly wet with water/oil and the bun disintegrated. The slaw was gloupy. The only nice thing were the chips which were classic pub fayre and nice and crispy.

We were in Yeovil for a family wedding and stayed two nights at the Mildmay Arms - The staff were extremely welcoming, polite and helpful. The manager was on hand at our chosen breakfast time to make teas, coffee and toast. The Rooms were clean and spacious and comfortable. The food we ordered off the menu was really delicious and we sat outside in the seating area in the sun which was lovely. All in all it was a great place to stay and I would definitely stay again or recommend.

This was a very disappointing Sunday lunch, of a much lower standard than previously experienced at the Mildmay. The meat portions were generous, but the vegetables were very over cooked, and some of the ingredients looked and tasted as though they were from packets. There was no real atmosphere and we were glad to leave as soon as our meal was finished.

I have been eating at the Mildmay with friends pretty much every week for the past 6 months. We have been so impressed with not only the food and beer but also the amazing hospitality afforded to us by Gavin and Rachael. The atmosphere is exactly what you look for from a local pub, always has local characters in the bar and others catching up over a meal and a few drinks. We massively appreciate your efforts in ensuring we enjoy our evenings with you 🙏🙏

A reasonable stopover. Nice to spend time in a pub where locals were welcoming. Having read some of the reviews, thought we were prepared for the church bells but the quarterly striking of the church clock inevitably impacted on the quality of our sleep!

Friendly accomodating pub. Very clean. I needed a quiet place to prepare for a job interview whilst on a camping holiday. We stumbled on mildmay by chance. Explained my predicament and that i would be there for a few hours and was welcomed warmly while my son and husband went off to explore some local museums while i studied. I was able to use the wifi and order cappucinos at my leisure and ate some amazing garlic toast and mushrooms for lunch. Super english pub. I know the industry is struggling so please support this one if you are passing.

Absolutely the best Sunday roast at the best price you could find. Had 2 x soup broccoli and Stilton which were rich and velvety. 2 x prawn cocktail which were the biggest ever, so tasty with lots of sauce for me but the kindly left it off for my grandson. We then had 3 roast beef and one chicken. There must have been 5 slices of the best beef ever, with no fat. Rich gravy, roasties, a huge Yorkshire pud, then selection of veg, leeks, peas, carrots, cauliflower cheese, parsnips and another I can't remember. Kids managed a pudding too, a sticky toffee pudding with custard and chocolate brownie and ice cream. The dinner wasn't rushed which was great so we got to spend a lovely afternoon with yhe grandkids chatting and eating, needed a lie down afterwards so full. But that's what Sundays are for. Can't wait for our next visit.

Called in for a Saturday lunch time meal, was advised to book but as we're expecting a couple of large parties, there was no more than 8 people in the pub when we arrived, or the duration, including us. Friendly on arrival, but no offer of desert, bar man was more interested in chatting to a local customer, and waitress did not hang around to ask, she actually was not seen at all after food was placed on our table. Dirty cloudy vinegar bottles questions the overall cleanliness, although appeared clean to the eye.

We all had something to eat and I had the brie wedges, loved it. I'll be going back and I'll be taking my other half for a meal and evening out. They also have a nice and spacious garden that you can sit out in and relax. We were only going in for one and a bite to eat but ended up staying for a lot longer than we had planned. Booked to meet friends here as the outside blackboard advertised 'Pie and Sausage night', indeed when phoned to book were told that it was pie night and yes they had vegetarian meals too. When we sat down and asked about the specials, it was all a bit of a confusion. The waitress said she hadn't been working there long, but eventually we were told there were two pies on the menu and we could have them at the premonition price because we'd seen it advertised! Made to feel like we were wrong.(No sign of sausages!) Just as well we enjoyed our company as after our good starters the mains were SO not good! Two of the pies were black on the rims and had obviously been cooked as sliced pie, (possibly microwaved before going in a very hot oven) one was so burnt all down one side too! They were very salty and the meat tasted of nothing else. The vegetable curry was only half eaten as it was dreadful too, new potatoes and carrots that tasted like they been frozen , reheated and chucked in just to bulk it out. On the plus side .. it was fresh, not frozen veg! On leaving..... the blackboard was still out advertising pie and sausage night! We won't be going again.

We had high hopes having read several positive reviews but the reality was hugely disappointing. The roast pork was very poor, tough and fatty, and came absolutely swimming in half a pint of gravy. There’s nothing worse than not having enough gravy but this was the polar opposite, to the point that we couldn’t even see our meat beneath it, which also resulted in soggy potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The menu stated crackling and apple sauce but neither were present. There were already multiple vegetables on the plate but we were brought an additional two side dishes, which was very generous but frankly overwhelming. Ours weren’t the only plates that went back to the kitchen half finished so the food wastage must be shocking. These are all simple things to rectify but until they are we will definitely not be returning or recommending the Mildmay I’m afraid.

A friend and I were passing through the village when we noticed the 2 for 1 offer on steaks advertised on the chalkboard outside. This was enough to entice us in. The pub itself is a beautiful old coaching inn. We ordered drinks and steaks, no problem. The food came out quickly and looked and tasted very nice. However, it became apparent that there were rather a lot of hairs in both of our dishes. We ate around the majority of them, not wanting to cause a fuss. We did, however, mention them to the waitress, who was very polite, when she came to collect our plates. She was visibly surprised and disgusted. She took our plates and said she would speak to the boss. After around 15 minutes she reappeared and offered us free dessert, we politely declined the offer. This is where things went downhill. The manager/landlord then came over to our table and asked if there was something wrong with our meals, we duly explained the preceedings. He remarked 'well you dont want to pay, so we will leave it at that'. He was getting rather flustered and slightly agitated at this point, which was bewildering as we had been very polite throughout. A discount would have sufficed but he made it very clear that we did not have to pay. We got up and made our way out, thinking that would be the end of the matter. To my surprise as I pulled out of the car park the manager/landlord was stood out the front of the building and he appeared to be taking down my registration number in his notepad. God only knows what he is planning on doing with these details. This pub has such potential and we were confident it would live up to it's past reviews, if only they were slightly more professional regarding complaints it would have.

We have driven by many times but never called in. From the outside, you'd expect a warm welcoming old country pub. Quite the opposite: the entrance from the road takes you into the bar with a large TV on the wall, several leather sofas etc and two locals at the bar. Went in with a group of friends for a catch up, as it's in a good location for a mutual meeting place for us all. However we were very disappointed. The beer was sour and smelt of egg. Having worked in a bar previously, I am aware that this is usually due to dirty beer lines (through not having been cleaned). The board outside said their Sunday roast was Best in the West and that it was £8.95 but if this is the Best in the West then I would not want to see the worst and it is actually £9.95 when you come to pay. On the plus side the staff are friendly and accommodating and the place is warm with a real log fire. We chose the 'slow cooked' pork which we thought should be lovely and tender - wrong! Parts of it were tough and we didn't think it was freshly cooked. The best thing about the meal was the roast potatoes and they weren't that great, the rest of it all seemed to have been pre-cooked and then reheated. Sadly it was all a bit mediocre on this occasion.

We were given a different table because we had our baby with us which was really accommodating. Atmosphere was lovely. Great decor and lots of diners coming and going. Food was spot on. Roast beef was tasty and cooked well and so was the belly pork. All the sides and vegetables that accompanied the dishes made for a lovely traditional roast. Deserts were lovely too, although didn't last long!Downside: the knives were pretty useless and we had to ask for steak knives to cut the beef. May sound petty but every member of the family who had beef struggled with the knives. We would go back for roast here again. Only confusion with the roast is it states £8.95 on the board outside and on the menus inside £9.95. We didn't grumble as the food was great. But maybe something to alter or make clear to customers.

Upon driving past this pub it looked lovely from the outside, and especially seeing the board outside saying 'Best in the West'. So I entered the pub and a small bar was on the right so I went in there. I waited at the bar then was told to go through to the restaurant. This was back out of the bar and up some steps. The lady looked at me as if to say 'what are you doing here', but nothing was sign posted or labelled, and even the entrance is questionable as there is a wall in front of you when you walk on. I felt as if I had walked into somebody's living room uninvited to be honest. I went to the restaurant and was seated with my friends. The bar tender lady was very grumpy and didn't smile once, I felt very uncomfortable, but obliged to stay as we were already seated. We ordered food, portions were too small, very bland, but waitress was attentive. I can honestly say this was NOT anywhere near the Best in the West. Very strange place, layout is awkward and decor is very very dated and a grubby. The signage and exterior is very misleading. Would not return.

Just had dinner with my 3 year old son and it was a delight. The menu is refreshingly uncomplicated, freshly cooked produce with a focus on locally sourced! An absolute gem on the menu today, is Devilled lambs kidneys on a thick slice of toast. Perfectly cooked and 'devilled', a wonderful treat that is hard to find these days - be a 'devil' and try it, you won't be sorry! The Spiced Creedy Carver duck dish was suptuous. Lovely, tasty, and tender duck breast, with a confit leg wrapped in pastilla, (pastilla is originally a Moroccan small pastry pie, often a starter - in the Mildmay example, think filo pastry spring roll but so much better when filled with the confit leg!) The accompanying veg were a joy to the pallette - perfectly cooked and lightly charred cauliflower with roasted squash and a baked onion which was halved and scalloped, and used to contain the beautifully rich jus accompanying the dish. All in all top notch. The hosts are attentive without being sycophantic, and friendly without trying to be your long lost friends. The character and rustic charm of the building has been refreshed with a nod to its original feel and the overall atmosphere is cosy warm and inviting.I'm infamously picky my friends advise me, but this time I can find no fault!

Four of us went for a meal last Friday which had been booked,,and we do live local. The menu is limited, and had a problem getting the waitress to understand a very simple order from the menu,in fact took 2 visits from her to get it correct, even the drinks order was simple but still came wrong. We eat out a lot and all of us are retired. We did get reminded of fawlty towers. The steak meal was very very expensive and the chips said to be triple fried were certainly not.

lacking any warmth, personality or charm found the food uninspiring and lacking flavour, we were not welcomed and it felt like we were unimportant, so will not be returning, such a shame that customers feel that way.

I have to say, the owners have transformed the prior dump into a great pub. You can dine in the restaurant and have peace and quiet or you can sit in the bat have fine ales, great cider and horse racing on the large TV.Great idea, they should be applauded for what they have done for Queen Camel, I could issue a couple of niggles, however how can I, they have transformed the place. On a final note the locals are looked after, free food in the bar, it's made fresh and served to the punters. Spot on.

Not sure if this pub has had a change of ownership since our last visit app 6 month ago, however this visit ( Thurs 25th August) was most disappointing.Firstly the "welcome" was distinctly lacking in warmth. and then we found the lovely varied menu had been changed dramatically, nowhere near the selection of meals to choose from. We settled on fish and chips, which was over priced at £12 and certainly underwhelming, especially as the fish definitely was not fresh and the salad served alongside was covered in brown slime - a distinct lack of attention to detail. We did mention this to the waitress who apologised but did not seem unduly concerned. We paid the bill and left but definitely shall not be returning.

A quite Thursday evening - not busy for the chef. Our choice was made from the main menu, we were not told of anything on the menu that was not available. Two of us ordered mussels, the other rump steak. We were then told that the mussels were not available, so had to make another choice. The chosen food arrived, which was acceptable - the small salmon dish was not served with any seasonal vegetables and the rump steak was 'rare' - but at less than 1cm in depth, hardly seemed rare. The coleslaw served with the burger was crinkling at the edges as it was so dry. The chef did his best with the food available to him - I guess that on a quiet Thursday, you get given what is left in the store cupboard. We ordered dessert, ice cream and a cheese board and a coffee: the coffee came very promptly but the ice cream and cheese board took 20 minutes after the coffee to arrive. I think the cheese came from the local shop and the ice cream must have been frozen solid to allow twenty minutes to be edible. The meals are usually great - but what a let down tonight

Self, hubby and step son booked last minute for Sunday lunch as I pass this pub twice a day on the way and back to work and always fancied popping in. I'm so pleased they could fit us in as it was the best Sunday lunch since my mum's. The meat was beautiful (beef of course), the gravy was exceptional and deep and rich and lots of it and the Yorkshire pudding was huge. There was a lovely selection of seasonal veg but I couldn't manage that although hubby and step son polished it off. We did however have space for a little dessert which again was lovely. We will certainly be going back. The outside area is really nice and big and will be lovely on warm evenings (or days). Wish it was a local as would be in all the time.

We enjoyed a meal and a few drinks at the Mildmay Arms on a recent stay in Queens Camel. The staff were friendly as were the local customers who made us feel welcome. The food was very good although we did have a few issues with a number of things being unavailable. Nevertheless, the food we had was fresh and tasty. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We stopped at the Mildmay Arms looking for a meal. It is on a fairly busy road but there was parking on both sides and a pleasant seating area at the front. It is an attractive building so we decided to take a chance. We were pleased with our decision. The present owners are fairly recent and have worked hard to create a welcoming place. Food is cooked from scratch and our meals were delicious and well worth the wait with fresh vegetables and chicken you could task. The pub does not keep food in freezers and has daily deliveries and the quality was obvious.During the wait the host indulged my interest in the history of the pub; it was early evening so perhaps he would not always have the time to spare but he took us out the back to see the walkway to the church and the houses lining the walkway two of which had tin roofs having been listed after the way when they had been damaged by a bomb. The pub seems to have been popular with jockeys and there were a number of photographs of people even I recognised!Should you wish for an excellent meal and enjoy information about history (which I asked for rather than having it imposed on me!) I am sure you would enjoy this pub. There was a television in the front bar but a much quieter atmosphere in the back and there was also a small dining room. It was possible to have bed and breakfast. One of the questions below is if the pub serves "pub food". I always think that implies a lack of quality which you will not find here.

A great place to stop for coffee, lunch, or tea which rightly seems very popular with the locals. We enjoyed lots of tea and cake after a walk up Herne Hill (recommended) and my OH particularly enjoyed a Manhattan cake which was all chocolate mousse and orange. Great, friendly service as well.

Fantastic night for dinner, we always struggle taking our child out for dinner but we felt such at ease. We were greeted with friendliness, served fast for our drinks and told to choose a table! Food was delivered fast, hot and delicious! Lots of parking space, my son was given colours and colouring paper which kept him happy. We booked in for the Christmas breakfast with Santa and can’t wait 😍

Had been looking forward to visiting here for a while but was left disappointed. Unfortunately they dont seem to be well adverse with alligies. After informing them of an alligie within our party it's seemed that panic struck and we were told they couldn't guarantee that the food was suitable as the kitchen had various things made in it. We left hungry and disappointed

My wife and I stayed for 2 night, expecting evening meals and breakfast as we were visiting Wells and Bath and Yeovil . I think it was a lovely pub at one time but not now. It did no food closed most nights , we visited other pubs for our meals very disappointing stay and would not recommend anyone to stay I think it will possibly close down very shortly.
