Michael Wan's Mandarin Cantonese Restaurant in Blackpool

What a find! Been to many Chinese Restaurants in The Lakes, Manchester and York but never have I eaten such delicious food! Absolutely amazing! You don't have to pay service charge, and I usually don't but Idid as the service was above and beyond!

Absolute Gem 💎. Visited this Restaurant for my birthday and my girlfriend and me spended a very lovely evening at the Mandarin. The Food overall was very good. We really enjoyed the Starter Plate, which was so delicious! Usually I don’t like to order Sate Sticks, because most Restaurants just serve you overcooked or dry chicken, but I have to admit, Mandarin completely changed my mind on that. I probably never tasted so tender Sate with such a good sauce before. The Staff overall was very lovely and caring. Everyone who worked upstairs, deserves a raise. Special shoutout to Peck! Would recommend! 5/5

Family get together great night with wonderful food and service

My wife, my daughter, and I dropped in on Good Friday, and thankfully, we were given a table which was very lucky as this is obviously a very popular restaurant. The whole experience was perfect!! The food was the best we have had in an age and the staff were nothing short of exceptional. Thank you for making our evening so special and enjoyable.

Absolutely brilliant staff are lovely. Went yesterday for my birthday with the girls. Shout out to the really lovely blonde waitress who took our photo. And the nice tall thin guy who didn’t judge us for asking for chicken nuggets for our fussy friend haha. Food absolutely brilliant, came piping hot, ordered chicken satay as a main, incredible the flavour my god I don’t know what that sauce is but I’ll be back haha. Very fast service too, restaurant was full. Saturday night. Chunky chips, yes. Friend ordered chow main, and wings on the side they are not shy with portion sizes but don’t over over do it like a lot of places. Other friend said the squid was really good. Very respectable place, always staff walking about to ask for anything. 10/10 thanks for a good night.

One word. Consistency. There's a reason this restaurant had been here 45+years. The place is clean, modern but with a hardback to the old days with traditional materials. I love the satin walls here- they scream touch me haha. The gorgeous plush blue velvet booths are extremely comfortable. Now for the food. I said consistency because the dishes have always been the same but improved with better high quality ingredients. The menu has expanded and gained a loving following. I had 'seasonal greens' with 'Coriander and schezuan pepper' fried rice. My partner had 3 starters. Pot stickers, Satay Skewers and a wonton soup. A special mention for the soup.. it's never changed in the 15years I've been attending. There's nothing like it. Hand mad wontons and pak choi, highly seasoned. Gosh, I can't convey how good that soup is. My main did lack 'greens'. But I notified the team immediately, and literally one minute later I had lots of wok fried pak choi extra on my plate lol. So even lil errors are rectified. And that highlights their humbleness to please the customer. Excellent customer service. 10/10. We well as ever, be back. Shame I only caught two pics!

Really food good with a relaxed and friendly ambience. The lady who manages it is so nice and welcomes you with warmth, she’s extremely attentive, she always ensures your looked after at your table . The other staff always work very hard, If your In Blackpool this place Is a must 👍

So pleased I found this restaurant and managed to book a table as we were visiting Blackpool for the weekend. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and lovely and warm. All the staff were polite but friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The 4 of us the combination starter, we couldn't fault a thing, everything was hot and very tasty. For mains we had special chow main, egg fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. Everything was delicious. We will definitely return when back in the area. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Every time we go they are always ready to clear our table, take our order and make sure we are situated. The food is brilliant they are happy to alter our food to our satisfaction. Wonderful staff.

Vegan menu isn't all vegan and the options that were vegan weren't very imaginative; the two starters and mains we had were bland; we've had better take-aways. Service was very good. Wouldn't go again.

Lived in Blackpool for over 20 years and this was my first visit however it won't be my last. From walking into the restaurant staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing and we didn't wait long from starters to main course. Would recommend to anyone but advisable to book.

Lovely food, so much duck and refillable pancakes, sauce and veg ! We went for a birthday and we’re given table decorations that were lovely and a slice of vienetta lovely surprise. Great and quick service with all starters drinks and mains. The chicken wings were amazing, sticky and very tasty. Thanks for a lovely birthday meal.

I can't praise this place enough. We didn't book and we where seated within 5 mins. We ordered the Mandarin Banquet and within minutes our starters arrived. The rest of the meal with amazing. The staff and service was outstanding. We will definitely be visiting the gem again.

What a gem of a place. From the moment we walked in the staff were really welcoming and friendly which continued throughout the meal. The food was amazing, with some unique dishes which I’ve personally never come across before. The quality of the food was top notch and the decor was great too. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back the next time I’m in Blackpool. I would have taken pictures of the food which was well presented, but I was too busy eating it. Thanks for an enjoyable meal.

A real disappointment. Visited for a family birthday and would not go again which is a shame as we had very high hopes from reading the reviews. Ordered 3 X Mandarin starters which came on 1 plate as a sharer which we thought was poor as we were not ordering from the buffet style section of the menu. This was £36 for the 3 of us and didn't really feel value for money . The chicken satay on the starter was the highlight and was very tasty. It was the main course that was the real let down. There was more salt and MSG in our meals than a cheap Chinese takeaway to the point that we could not eat it all. We actually left some food which is very unlike us. Keep some water to hand for the next 24hrs! 3 drinks, 3 shared starters, 3 main course with rice and chips £132. Very poor and totally underwhelmed

Absolutely Terrible !!! Simply cannot understand the Google ratings ? The restaurant is shabby to say the least ! But mostly the food was awful ! Everything tasted the same and was most definitely frozen produce ! Which at 100 pounds plus for 3 starters and one main was shocking ! Granted we had a decent bottle of wine Thank God ! which was the only saving grace of the evening ! Seriously Overrated and Overpriced living off its hey day reputation which sadly is long passed ! Would not recommend !

Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant and efficient. We had a seafood banquet with the one meat dish substituted for a delicious crispy tofu. Nice wine list, the reasonably priced house rose champagne is a bargain. The extra touches for the birthday meal were greatly appreciated

After having a poor experience at an Indian restaurant the night before we were pinning our hopes on this one being a success. It was amazing. The place is spotless, the staff are friendly and the food was just what we wanted. We had a banquet that came with soup, ribs, prawn toast, chicken satay, crab claw, spring roll and seaweed. This was followed by four different mains with rice. Every single dish was spot on, we all had our individual favourites but everyone agreed that every dish tasted nice and there was plenty of it. I will definitely be making a return trip.

Visited on a Sunday night. There was 6 of us in party. Starters main courses absolutely fabulous. All of us thought it was the best Chinese food we had ever had. Choice in menu amazing. All freshly cooked and flavoursome. All staff extremely friendly. First class service. Thank you for a wonderful meal! You made our stay in Blackpool just awesome!

Excellent service and would not expect anything else. The food was awsome and served by friendly staff and was hot when it came to table. The restaurant was very clean and Pauline made sure she spent time with every guest whilst making sure everything ran smoothly. So glad to be back! Three of us went after a few drinks elsewhere, ready to eat again at this excellent restaurant. It was very busy of course but having pre booked (essential) we were shown to our table opposite the booths (they are always popular). Pauline the owner was hovering around directing and of course chatting, making sure everyone was ok. Plenty of staff on to make sure all needs were attended to. We ordered the Mandarin mixed starters for three, Singapore vermicelli, chicken Szechuan, gon sui (crispy spicy beef) and two egg fried rice. With a bottle of white wine we were ready to go! Food was excellent, we just sat and enjoyed. Service was very attentive as well of course. We have booked again for July, cannot wait! Highly recommend.

After eating here on a number of occasions when visiting Blackpool, my family and I were keen to return for another amazing meal, and it didn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived we were looked after by the extremely attentive staff.The food, yet again, was delicious and fresh which was served to our table as and when we were ready for each course. If you like your food with a touch/more spice try the Szechuan beef, it is one of the best I have tasted.

Absolutely fantastic experience, great service, delicious food, beautifully decorated restaurant, can’t wait to visit again. One thing we didn’t like but wasn’t a game changer for the 5* ... they put an ‘optional’ service charge at 10% BUT don’t ask when they hand you the card machine if you want to pay it, and we’re two awkward people so couldn’t ask for them to take it off.

6 of us came for dinner last Saturday and from the moment we arrived it was amazing. The atmosphere was electric. Great buzz around as the restaurant was full ( social distance in operation). Service was prompt friendly & professional. Drinks arrived very quickly. We all have the Mandarin banquet and oh my God, there was so much food. The mixed starter was amazing. The crispy aromatic duck was superb and the mains were fantastic. Would have no hesitation in recommending The Mandarin to anyone looking for amazing food in a beautiful restaurant with great service.

Eating at Michael Wan's Mandarin is our long-time Blackpool tradition! I'll only be repeating what so many other reviewers have already said... but this place is exceptional. Fantastic ambience, friendly and funny staff, and the best Chinese food on offer in the north of England. We can't wait to come back!

This is the most expensive meal we have because it’s a 220 mile round trip & a hotel for the night but the experience makes it worth while. The ambiance, staff & the quality of the food at this restaurant is the reason we visit Blackpool at least once a year.

Been several times and when I had my hotel I send dozens of guests and all loved it, some regular guests would go every time they visited and I can understand why as the whole experience is excellent

This is probably the best restaurant in Blackpool. Lovely decor, professional staff, delicious drinks, excellent food-- and almost everything on the menu can be adjusted to accommodate a gluten intolerance. Bring a date here for a really atmospheric evening out.

It was our first visit to Michael Wan's Mandarin, it was safe to say we weren't disappointed. After reading so many positive reviews on Trip Advisor, my partner and I decided to visit. The food was very fresh, delicious with generous portions! My partner and I ordered the Mandarin Banquet to share. Staff were attentive, friendly and we felt very welcome. We had pleasant conversations with the waiting staff and they were delighted to know it was our first visit, despite living locally. We would absolutely visit again, looking forward to returning post-lockdown!

We had a meal here and as always the food is very special it is fresh and delicious, I can't fault the food and it will always be my favourite. However, to charge over £3 for a dash of cordial with soda water is excessive and to be honest a real cheek given the service charge however this is optional but the look I got when I ask for it to be removed wasn't good. If I want to give me tip I'd like to decide what I give. I have on many occasions paid the service charge when service was good. But we were not asked if we enjoyed the meal which I feel is part of the service. Overall I love the mandarin and our experience was positive I just hope they review the soda water charges. If you want top noch food you won't go wrong.

We ate here on a Friday night in October. We had booked in advance and the table was ready on arrival. The restaurant was busy, but social distancing was being adhered to. We ordered salt and pepper chicken chow mein along with a bottle of wine. The food was excellent and the service was fine to that point. Our table was for 7:30pm and we were getting close to finishing around 8:30, and asked for the bill whilst we were on our last glass of wine. We settled the bill, then were promptly told that the people who were next in line for our table were waiting...after barely an hour! To be fair when I brought this up on the way out, one of the waiters apologised and said we shouldn’t have been told someone was waiting to take our table. Unfortunately that tainted our experience and isn’t really acceptable to be honest after spending over £60 in an hour. Disappointing end to what had been a good experience.

We have visited Blackpool many times and this is the second time we have dined at The Mandarin, we chose their set menu and we felt is was good value for money, well presented and most importantly absolutely delicious.Our waiting staff Peck and Josh were friendly and attentive to our needs, the restaurant is beautifully decorated which makes for a pleasant dining experience. Covid-safe and secure measures are in place. We will return, thanks for a lovely meal Pauline and your entire team.

We saw the good reviews so wanted to visit, unfortunately closed on a Monday so waited a few more days, well worth the wait!The food was beautiful, a different feel to a regular Chinese restaurant, definitely the next level food standards wise.The service was excellent and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Another great meal in Blackpool and would definitely go back.

The booths are lovely, we went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The table had anniversary decorations which we really appreciated. The service was excellent and the food outstanding. We have the menu with the mixed starters and half a crispy duck. We were so full that we couldn't finish our meal. Would definitely visit again.

We come back to this restaurant every 4-5 years when revisiting the illuminations. Has never failed to meet our expectations as one of the greatest Chinese restaurants in the UK (have eaten in many across London, Birmingham, Manchester and other cities and towns across the UK). Came here with hubby on a long awaited mini break. We remembered it from a previous visit roughly 10 yrs ago. Pleased to say it hasn't changed. We had the mandarin banquet, absolutely fantastic from start to finish.staff were amazing and place is very covid safe.

Incredible food in an amazing ambience with excellent service. Very Covid secure with visors, gloves, sanitiser and screens. The menu was extensive and exciting, the food was incredible and the service excellent. We will definitely be back!

Visited August as a couple & September as a family, both times seated upstairs, had Mandarin special starter which we absolutely love, little uns had the childrens menu, and we all had different mains which were all delicious, brilliant service & helpful service, never expect anything less, we love it here

We always have a lovely dinner at the Mandarin, Pauline and her team are lovely. The food is awesome! Starters are my favourites so always enjoy the mixed starter, lettuce wraps and crispy duck! Love that they are dog friendly. And billy enjoyed his takeaway prawn crackers at home!

After a long day in Pleasure Land...decided to look for a nice place to eat rather than the usual seaside fish'n'chips.Thank goodness for google and trip adviser. Found this restuarant and we had a lovely meal...in pleasant surroundings with friendly and attentive staff..they managed to fit us in without booking. It was well worth the walk to the opposite end from Pleasure Land and i would recommend this place to anyone paying a visit to Blackpool.

This food has got to be the nicest Chinese food myself and family has ever eaten. We ordered The Mandarin Banquet, all I can say is wow. We picked this restaurant for my 30th Birthday and it never disappointed. Everything that was brought to our table was full of flavour. Special mention to Peq who was a fantastic waiter and couldn’t do enough for us, his warm and friendly way made it that bit more special, highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again soon.Thank you x

We always try and eat here when we come to Blackpool. Food is amazing and service is very special. We were served by Peq who was a trainee and he was so attentive and even sang our 1 year old happy birthday, it made it very special.

Beautifully decorated, and lovely ambience here, and the food is amazing. We were greeted with a warm welcome, and taken upstairs to be seated. The seating is well spaced out, and is spotlessly clean, and appeared to be very popular with a good few folks in. The menu has a good selection of starters and mains, and two beers on tap. The satay skewers according to my wife, were the best she has ever tasted, she is a connoisseur of these lol, I had ribs in sauce, my word, they were stacked high, and were excellent. Next up, mains, another fabulous dish each, pork belly and rice for me, and sizzling chicken for the good lady, both were amazing. The server Peq, was always on hand, but not overbearing, always willing to please, so big thanks to him. Most definitely be back here, a treat from start to finish, thanks for a lovely evening in a wonderful setting.

Visited here on a Friday evening whilst visiting Blackpool after reading the reviews on it. And it definitely did not disappoint! The restaurant is a lovely setting inside and tables are pretty well spaced out. Staff were very friendly and swiftly brought over the pint of Sunlik i ordered which was lovely. I went for the Chicken Satay Skewers to start with and wow the flavour was incredible! So tasty. I then went for the Duck in Szechuan sauce for main and this was also just as good! Tender pieces of duck in a really spicy sauce. Couldn't have asked for more from a chinese meal.. 100% recommend to anyone!

Oh my days. I have never tasted such goodness before in my life. Those chicken satay skewers were the greatest thing I've ever had in my life! Four of us opted for the starter including satay skewers, prawns, prawn toast, spring rolls seaweed etc and I'm so glad we were recommended it because it was amazing. I had Singapore vermicelli for main and again was really good!! I even bought a set of the chopsticks to remind me of the place everytime I eat Chinese food. I will be back!!! We boxed up what we didn't eat and had it the next day, amazing. Can't wait to try those skewers again!

fantastic meal for 2 prawn crackers to start with really tasty dipping sauces. Salt and chilli ribs were spot on and the best hot and sour soup ever had. Main meals were Cantonese fillet steak and schezuan chicken, salt and chilli chips and soft noodles. Really lovely meal with great service and we can't wait to come back!

We visited Michael Wan's for a recent family get togther when visiting Lytham St Anne's and seeing the fab Illuminations. COVID measures in place were good & everyone felt safe. The restaurant was warm & welcoming and we were seated in a booth which comfortably accommodated the 6 of us. The menu is fab, lots of traditional favourites you'd expect but also a number of different house specials offering something alternative. We enjoyed a couple of house sharing platters to start everything was tasty & the platters definitely went back empty! For mains we chose a variety of different dishes including duck, a sizzling plate, sweet & sour and a beautiful house special of crispy beef all served with fried rice. Service was good, the house beer tasty & everyone really enjoyed the food. An excellent choice & somewhere we'd happily recommend if your visiting Blackpool and want to enjoy good Chinese food in a warm & welcoming environment.

An excellent chinese meal. Quite large portions for our starters, spare ribs & satay skewers. I eat a lot of chinese & particularly like Szechaun, the menu said it would knock your socks off & it certainly did , opted for the Szechaun duck & it was a really spicy one, how i like it. Service was friendly, but not the fastest, not always a bad thing though, a meals not to be rushed. would certainly recommend.

We visited this restaurant twice during our stay in Blackpool. We were so impressed with the food and service that we just had to return. It is very popular so it is advisable to book a table. The food we had on both occasions was excellent and the service was first class. The covid checks were good and the overall cleanliness was excellent.

Honestly the best Chinese ever. 5 of us came tonight and we had the best service from Peq, he was honestly amazing and made our meal so much more enjoyable! My fiancé and I have always lived in Blackpool but had never visited this restaurant before! We decided to try it, since it was so highly rated and we were not disappointed!It’s a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for! The portions are big (the rice portion looks small but it fed two of us easily)! Plus we could not fault the quality and/or quantity at all. Everything was delicious!The staff were lovely, our waiter was a trainee but again couldn’t fault him, he was brilliant.We’ll definitely be back for our next special occasion!

Not our first visit so we realised that booking was pretty much essential due to its popularity.Standards have not dropped with even a simple gin and tonic having strawberries and blueberries added to add that extra touch.As usual staff were excellent and there are good schemes in place due to COVID restrictions.

No visit to Blackpool complete without a visit to the Mandarin. Excellent service , food is consistently excellent the quality of food is first class. Can recommend the 'Mandarin Banquet' fabulous selction of courses, delicious. Go hungry:)
