Mezze restaurant in Redbridge

Everything about this restaurant is top notch, but above all, the quality of the food and cooking is incredible. Having been away for years living overseas, it was a joy to re-visit a place that values consistency of high quality as one of its tenets. The lamb and chicken dishes were as succulent and tasty as I remembered and the service friendly and attentive. This is Turkish food at its very best.

My family dined here in October 2024 for my stepmother's birthday. She had come before with her friends but for the rest of us it was the first time. I was impressed at how busy and vibrant the restaurant was on a Monday evening. The food was delicious - I had the lamb chops and thought it was excellent. Everyone finished their plates and agreed they were too full for pudding. However, the waiting staff (attentive all evening) surprised us with a birthday dessert for my stepmother. For drink, we started with Prosecco and then consumed several bottles of Italian red - again very good. The restaurant decor was tastefully done and the glasses were well stylised. In short, my husband and I agreed that we would definitely like to come again.

This spot is great, service is brilliant. Always yummy food & fabulous cocktails. Nice warm and cosy feel inside, so much fun.

The best food, warm welcome, superb cocktails and the new refurb makes this a great place for an evening out. Whether eating in or having a takeaway the food quality is consistent.

Been to the restaurant before and the food was better quality. The prawns, the meat was very salty. Lamb was impossible to eat because of the salt and the fat. They had much better lamb before. And the prices are too high.

Visited on Friday evening with friends. Great service. I had mushrooms to start, followed by chicken shish with rice. Unfortunately, 2 of the main courses, although hot on the outside, were cold inside. They took both meals off the bill without being asked

Visited last night without a booking. They managed to fit us in. We shared the olives and hummus to start with. That was followed by a mixed shish and a chicken shish. The chicken was delicious and very moist. Staff were very helpand friendly and the restaurant was packed when we left.

I was at Ocakbasi last night (18/3/24) with my sister and mum. What a fantastic evening. The restaurant looked beautiful, and the food was exceptional. You always feel so welcome by Nick the owner and you feel truly valued. Our gorgeous waitress Selma was so attentive, kind and couldn't do enough for us. Mezze has just reopened after a refurb which has been done beautifully. I had high expectations as love the food here and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely service and first class food. The Adana Kofte and Mixed Fish Kebab are amazing. The owner is always visible and made us very welcome.

My recent visit to Mezze Ocakbasi was, unfortunately, a disappointing experience that left me feeling undervalued as a customer. Upon arrival, we inquired about the possibility of enjoying drinks but were met with a dismissive attitude due to not having a reservation. We were grudgingly allowed to sit in a corner, provided we ordered drinks and snacks. This initial interaction set a tone of unwelcomeness that persisted throughout our visit. What followed was a 30-minute wait, during which we were not approached to place an order. This lack of attention to new guests contrasted starkly with the warm reception given to a couple who, despite also not having a reservation, were greeted with hugs from what appeared to be the owner or manager and were seated immediately. This experience highlighted a palpable 'cliquey' atmosphere in the establishment. It seems that unless you're a known regular, the likelihood of receiving equal treatment is low. As a result, we chose to leave, feeling overlooked and undervalued. I believe that every guest deserves to be treated with respect and attentiveness, regardless of their familiarity with the staff. Unfortunately, Mezze Ocakbasi fell short of these basic hospitality standards during my visit. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as the potential for a more inclusive and welcoming environment is there.

5/5…. We had been going to Hawksmore and Goodmans for steak, until we had one here. It was genuinely better, which we was pleasantly surprised about ☺️ (considering it’s a Turkish - and not a steak restaurant). It’s comes with salad and chips. We brought a bottle of sauvignon blanc which was amazing too - definitely recommend trying the steak… The staff are lovely too

Too long to order drinks, general service was lackadaisical but nothing spectacular. There are several Turkish restaurants in the locality, this does not stand out as exceptional, not does it stand out as poor.

We're local to this restaurant and despite all the choice around us we come back time and time again. The setting plus the care and attention and crucially the amazing food makes this a very good value for money restaurant comparatively to others in the area. The restaurant owner is well on top of his game, is totally present and really wants to ensure its a top experience

We have eaten here before and the food was great. We couldn't get in to eat tonight and so ordered a takeaway, which we waited for. Never again. The meat was good quality and tasty. the rice was stuck together and dry and the salad which should have made it better was dreadful. Small vaiety of lettuce, three half slices of cucumber deseeded and the rest was carrot, gherkins and red cabbage. I am hoping the food when eating in the restaurant is as good as it was, but never would I buy a takeaway from here again and it was pretty expensive.

Can’t fault this restaurant. Friendly efficient staff and good service. Reasonable prices. Tasty, fresh food. Good size portions and the best lamb chops in the Universe!

Owner - called Nihat, of this restaurant is extremely rude and obnoxious. Never going again. I went there with my husband and my daughter who is 4 years old. It was my husbands birthday and wanted to take him out for dinner. As I was passing him on my way back to the table with my daughter he tutted at my daughter as apparently he thought she was in his way and was extremely rude. my husband mentioned it to him and his reply was to ask to take my husband out for a fight…. !!! What sort of a person does this especially as he can clearly see we were a family. Horrible horrible man

Visited this restaurant with a group of 13 friends for lunch. Great choice of food on the lunchtime menu. I normally have chicken shish, which I enjoy, but was told have something different for a change. I had minced chicken wrapped in bread, which my friends recommended. Although good ,I didn't enjoy it. I will stick to Shish. It got extremely busy fir a lunch time.

Just back from Mezze. Very nervous as first meal out in such a long time. The food was amazing as always. So impressed with the staff who immediately recognised how nervous I was and offered another table in a quiter section. So glad we chose this restaurant. One step closer to our old lives! Simply delicious food with excellent service and good atmosphere. It was quite loud when we arrived but could not fault the food and the price was reasonable.

My wife and I visited with friends for a second time. The service is friendly and welcoming. We had garlic prawns and fried squid to start with and then lamb chops and moussaka. Both very good and well-presented.. Followed by baklava and cheese cake which were ok. The house wine was drinkable but not great. However the ambience is very buzzy and the whole experience is enjoyable.

Just had one of my best ever Christmas lunches at this restaurant. Avocado and prawn starter then stuffed portobello mushroom served with sweet potato mash absolutely delicious! It is clearly very popular, judging by the number of families and groups of people eating there. Thisis clearly justified as the staff are friendly, efficient and effective with excellent service and a very good choice of meals. I had the lamb kleftiko which was delicious with lamb cooked to melt-in-the-mouth perfection. We will be back!

I cannot express just how good some of the food is in this restaurant but simply put, I would allow myself to drown in the garlic butter sauce that those sweet, juicy little prawns come swimming in. Despite having plans in the evening that required me to not have a breath like a wildebeest I once again could not resist from mopping up every last drop of that sauce! I’ve decided next time I’ll save myself the embarrassment of licking the plate and just order a pint of it.

For a rainy Monday evening this place was busy which tells you it must be good! The food here is the best, the chicken was so tender and the vegetarian moussaka was delicious. All the staff are brilliant and Nick is so welcoming and friendly. Can’t wait to come back!

My husband and I have Come here regularly over the years we live locally, we have never been disappointed with the food, always, such a good standard and reasonably priced, nick goes out of his way for us, and many other customers, he’s a very well known member of our local community, this goes a long way, in woodford.

We had booked a family meal for 7 o’clock on a Saturday evening because of some very favourable reports from family and friends. The quality food and service did not disappoint. The good size portions were well presented.

Visited them for the fifth time last week and must say they have maintained standards. The spicy prawns were bread moppingly excellent, the meat is always tasty and the lamb shanks fell off the bone.

Lamb sheesh is absolutely amazing, meat just melts in your mouth. Prices have suddenly shot up but food is still worth it! If prices get higher, Mezze would have to become a rare treat, owners need to be less greedy.

My friend and I were planning to visit Pizzeria Bel-sit (also an excellent restaurant) yesterday as we hadn't been for ages, but due to the queue we decided to go to Mezze Ocakbasi instead, where we consider ourselves to be regulars. We were really pleased we did - the staff were amazing (as usual), and the food excellent (as usual!). We both went for the mixed kebabs yesterday, and they could not have been better. Got one to go this time, picked up my food and was instantly recognised and welcomed. We ordered 4 mixed grills to take away and I will not be getting my take aways from anywhere else from now on too!! The food is always perfect here and cant recommend it more!! I'd eat here everyday if my wife let me!
