Meson Le Pepa in Kirklees

Something tempted me to pop in to Meson La Pepa last Saturday lunchtime. I was the only person dining to start with but it quickly got busy. Three very good portions of tapas: tortilla, patatas bravas and tostada de queso de cabra. Fast; friendly service; excellent price - £13. Money very well spent and a great introduction to Huddersfield.

Went for a completely unexpected lunch and took advantage of the daytime offer of 3 tapas for £13. Two of us ate fantastic food, a bottle of wine for £47. Great place great value

Now this is a first I walked past this place on numerous occasions I have looked in on passing but today I thought with my pal we would try something different a bit of Spanish style food.On the outside the building looks very architectural plus on the inside a very good feel to it has we were greeted by a lovely lady who welcomed us explained about the menu plus explained about the live music on a Saturday night plus the wine tasting cheese boards that they do at the end of every month on the last Saturday which basically if you are a wine lover you will definitely be in for a great deal by the way but on my first visit the food was very tasty just about right portion for two of us finished off by a dessert which they have plenty of choice plus first impressions absolutely delicious.

Went for the wine tasting which was brilliant and extremely good value for money Tapas early bird offer and complimentary cheese board fantastic accompaniments Hope they do it again!

Great tapas restaurant with friendly, attentive service. All the dishes were lovely, the wine was great and all very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere and would love to try the wine tasting one evening!

We have been many times to this restaurant however last night was very disappointing - we sent our food back twice as it was cold, considering we were the only two people in it shouldn't have been difficult to heat up a Spanish omelette. Its a real shame as the food and service used to be very good.

Visited for the first time today, been meaning to come for a while and it was Amazing. Fantastic food, atmosphere and service. Will definitely be back.

Went with friends, one of which was running late. We were not rushed at all, just left alone until our friend arrived. Lovely food and friendly staff. Would reccomend.

It's was very quiet evening. Put that down to school being back in season. Food was great. Our server was excellent, knew about the menu and she made the tiramisu ..it was really good..I'd recommend the Catalana coffee if you don't do desert xx

Lovely tapas restaurant and always open! Went 3 times this month for fish festival. Sardines and lobster are fab and lots of other seafood available. Hurry as it ends on Saturday 31st August!

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant yesterday. I have dined here a few times now but this was my first visit with my boyfriend. Staff were really friendly and attentive and the owner took time to talk to us about wine (as my partner loves red) he also told us about the wine tasting evening at the end of each month which we plan on booking to come too. Food was lush and really tasty and we had a few different dishes even going in for a few more after our initial order. Thanks so much look forward to our next visit

Well there's one good reason to visit Huddersfield..... Meson La Pepa, a Spanish themed Tapas restaurant with a good selection of Tapas small plate meal options to pick and share or you can have a meal. Good wine list offering, desserts and coffee. Check opening and Saturday evening is very busy so might need to book then, but why not a midweek treat (check opening) or lunch walk in when it's a bit quieter. Prices are very reasonable and food standard is good.

A restaurant which is nicely decorated and looks very welcoming, but that's all I can really say in favour of this restaurant. The menu is not amazing with rubbish vegetable options, unless you want one of the salads, or potatoes. The only dish which was actually any good was the chorizo in red wine sauce. We also had fried calamari (tiny portion even for a tapas dish) which was soggy and didn't come with any sort of dip; goats cheese salad which was like a 1970's salad (mainly iceberg with half a tomato, a couple of sticks of pepper and loads of red onion) and very watery (maybe invest in a salad spinner?) with no dressing; halloumi salad which was similar to the above, but to call it a halloumi salad is a joke as there were maybe three tiny cubes of it. The other dishes were mediocre at best. Part way through our meal a guitarist arrived to play live music (using an amp), he was really good, but so loud that it was impossible to talk, so we basically rushed to finish our meal in silence. The service was ok-ish.

Lovely place, Jodie was a welcoming host and made our evening wonderful.

Always good food. My friends have the tapas, which is varied and tasty. I like the small vegetable paella plate with an artichoke heart and a portion of garlic chicken. Yum.

Disappointed. Poor menu choice, high in breadcrumb, processed ingredient and lacked culinary skill and flavour. It was expensive for what you got portion & quality wise. It’s a shame as it used to be very good both food and value .

The meal at Meson La Pepa was okay. The staff were nice and the location was convenient. The food felt more like Tesco takeaway meal deal than authentic tapas.

Stopped in for an early evening meal and the place was quiet (hence an average atmosphere score), but the food was very good as was the service. I didn't give 5 stars as it's not the most extensive menu and no draft beer, but otherwise it was excellent and reasonable value for a town centre. Will definitely return.

Went for the wine tasting session & had an amazing time. Food was amazing, wine was amazing & the staff were fantastic. 100% will be returning very soon

Although my original post was 4 years ago, we have been regularly since and my comments below still stand we had another excellent meal there on saturday eve. Excellent Food, Atmosphere and Service. Been a while since we have eaten here but nothing has changed if anything I would say the food has just got better. Packed with flavour and combinations best tapas I have tasted outside of Spain. All Dishes, Potats bravas, Spanish omelette, squid, chorizo stack, mackerel, chicken in garlic superb but my best dish was the seafood paella, next time will be having a full plate not a tapas portion.

The food here is very good, with good-sized portions and reasonably priced. We visited on a Saturday night where a gent played spanish guitar, and to be honest, I could have sat and listened all night with a bottle of wine. Well worth a visit.

Great food and reasonably priced. I'm going back for the Prawns, croquettes and meatballs as well as the rest. Went on a Saturday and they had a Spanish guitarist on which added to the vibe. Not intrusive. Attentive staff and lovely owner ready to help. Will be back

We originally planned to eat somewhere else that we really liked and it wasn’t open. Their loss is mason la pepa’s gain. The food was fantastic, service impeccable and the price £62 for 8 tapas, 2 desserts, 2 coffees and a bottle of wine I felt like I was stealing!! Did I enjoy the whole experience? Well let’s say I booked to come again in 2 weeks on the way out. Thanks guys it was like being in Spain.

My sister-in-law booked a party of 14 for her 50th, giving 2 weeks notice, she even brought the dining time forward to 7.30, we arrived, was seated they took the drinks order while we looked at the menu, we ordered the meal, then had more drinks, others were being served, at 9pm we still hadn't been brought food, my sister in law went to complain, the manager/ owner went downstairs she thought to help with the food, he didn't come up, so she told the waitress to fetch him or we would leave and not pay for the drinks we had, he didn't arrive so we left. We won't use this place again

Food quality very poor. The salad was lacking in all flavour and texture. The last time I had iceberg in a salad was in the 80s. No dressing, had to ask for one, only options were olive oil or balsamic vinegar. Tapas left a lot to be desired.

Had a great meal here with my daughter after a Town game. A great selection of tapas with specials being various types of Croquettes. We ordered 8 dishes which ranged from £4 -£7. They were all delicious, particularly the black pudding croquettes. I had the house white wine which was fabulous for the price. Our evening was enhanced when the guitarist turned up and set up playing by the bar. He was great and it really made the evening special. We had already paid the bill by this time, but we lingered with our final drinks so that we could stay and listen. All in all a great experience.

The restaurant is very nice and welcoming... I have to say that the service was acceptable... The food wasn't great and certainly very far from the typical Spanish flavors.

Went in January with the view to using a voucher for a free bottle of wine, we were told it couldn't be used even though it was in date. Food and service we great but the issue over the wine left us feeling disappointed

I discovered Meson a few years ago when it was in a smaller location nearby and loved it. I went again in November 2023 in its new home - and I love it even more. Essentially a Spanish restaurant with some Mediterranean touches, it has marvelous tapas. Very Spanish, quality ingredients cooked well in simple but delicious ways. Good wine selection. The staff are so friendly. Great value for money. Particularly recommended are the anchoas marinadas, the asadilla (roasted piquillo peppers marinaded in garlic, vinegar, lemon and olive oil) and the calamari. A little bit of Spain in Huddersfield

On a random night stay over in Huddersfield. Found this gem online. The food is absolutely fantastic. The service second to none. I had a query on one of the dishes served. This was remedied almost immediately. The front of house team are superb. The team in the kitchen conjure such wonderful tasting food. Outside of Spain the best tapas we've tasted in the UK. Overall a 5 star rating is not good enough. 5+ at least.

Good place for a tapas lunch. Great value and pleasant service. Slightly lacking in atmosphere but not surprising as we were only 1 of 3 couples dining at hge time. Piped music not the best

I've never had to go out for a meal elsewhere as soon as eating out. The food was very disappointing and overpriced. We went to the Turkish place down the road straight after eating here which was much better.

Food was ok but a bit bland and when we added up how much we had spent was a lot for not a lot Better tapas places locally but not bad, just average

Very average experience. The salad starter was like something from the 70's - iceberg lettuce, sliced tomato raw onion and a few olives. Not even a dressing or oil. Goats cheese was ok, though just on dry bread. The warm, crispy halloumi fries were anything but. I could go on, but you probably get the idea. Tapas has been done to death, and I think you need to be a bit more imaginative these days to make you want to return. Which we won't, not would we recommend it.

Really lovely Tapas and great, friendly service by the staff and chef. Quirky decor in the main restaurant, but very pleasing with all the multicoloured doors on the walls. 😁

Great restaurant. Fantastic. Being a chef am always very picky about food and the quality and value for monies spent and how much it cost to make. But can not grumble . Fantastic, great, brilliant place to eat. Staff are nice friendly. You must at some point in your life eat here.

The hole experience was terrible food cold meatballs looked of and tasteless mushrooms of hairs in food toilets dirty rude staff all on phones Pudding was stale best bit was the drink never had such bad food waste of money avoid dirty restaurant don't think been cleaned in years

Superb, it was a repeat visit as we enjoyed it so much the first time and it was just as good the second time!

It was our first time eating here and firstly the service was fantastic. Polite waitresses and front of house. What was such a shame was the food was just not great. It was hot, but many of the tapas dishes had little flavour or quality. We didn’t have the heart to complain as you can see bar staff were working hard. So unfortunately I don’t think we will return.

Well! It’s the worst experience I have ever had!! It’s a waste of money and time literally. It’s not even close to Spanish food or Tapas. The ambiance is ok but the food is awful. Price is expensive for the portion and we left hungry! The worse dish was pollo and chorizo. It was literally pieces of frozen food dipped in water no sauce no taste. Cod tasted like nothing. We ordered Ravioli but it was not close to a Ravioli. Food is definitely frozen!! It’s a shame they call it Spanish and offending Spanish people. Staff are not friendly and not welcoming! I will never go again and regret it until the moment.

Meson la pepa?? More like microwaved (from frozen) and poor... None of the food had flavour or appeared fresh, the chicken and chorizo was clearly frozen chicken and was in what I can only describe as water.. The fish was bland beyond belief, and all the other dishes ordered lacked freshness, seasoning or any flavour. Truely and honestly the worst place I have ever eaten. Aesthetics nice, that is the only plus point.

We were a mother and daughter on a day trip to Huddersfield and decided to try this restaurant. We went on a Thursday lunchtime. It wasn’t busy but it deserves to be! Tapas selection was excellent and our selection was well cooked and nicely presented. We chose three each, with one portion of bread, which was just right for lunch. The service was friendly and efficient and we felt valued as customers. If we lived locally, we would have no hesitation in going back.

It's always nice here and the service is great... But it's lost some of its atmosphere since moving to the larger space

Had a pretty good time here, having lunch with friends. Welcoming and diligent staff. Food was ok. Variety is good, some plates are better than others depending on your taste. Enjoy.

Absolutely amazing food,excellent service and great value for money

Nice atmosphere but left disappointed after waiting half an hour to order drinks, then getting forgotten about after asking if we could order food, leading to us having to go to the bar again. When the food came it was unfortunately very bland and overall subpar as well. The waitress that ended up taking our order was lovely, but when we asked for the card machine, we were forgotten about yet again and had to go back to the bar to ask for it. Our drinks were taken off the bill which we appreciated, and on a quiet day it's probably a lot better run, however I wouldn't recommend if they are busy.

It was busy but the food took an hour and we had to send some of it back (cold and solid croquettes as an example). I felt bad for the staff as it was busy but the food was really disappointing. They did knock 2 things off the bill but could have done a lot more.

It’s an ok tapas bar with friendly and attentive staff. Sangria was delicious, food was just fine.. I would like to see cheap olives and iceberg lettuce gone. Overall it would be nice for the quality of ingredients to go up. It has potential but for now it is what it is.

Went here for a birthday meal. There were 7 of us at the table so we ordered quite a lot of dishes! A few of the dishes we ordered never arrived and were replaced with ones we didn’t order. But everything looked nice so we didn’t make a fuss. The food was ok, some dishes nicer than others. The main problem was the staff. They were constantly approaching the table, interrupting conversations asking for empty cups/glasses/plates. I appreciate attentive service but this was literally every 5 minutes. Sometimes they wouldn’t even ask and would start picking up plates/glasses that weren’t even empty and we were having to ask them to put them back!! 4 people at the table ordered a bottle of peroni each and when they ordered a second round were told they had run out. They also didn’t have most of the desserts left which was a bit disappointing. It was clear by about 9.30 (table booked for 8) that they wanted us out. For our last round of drinks we were brought bottles of beer but no glasses as they had all been collected (clearly they didn’t want anymore washing up). The bill came, we paid and 10 minutes later were presented with a further bill as they had apparently forgotten to charge us for some things. All very strange, disorganised and not the relaxing meal we were hoping for.

We visited this amazing gem of a restaurant and really enjoyed a family Tapas meal. Very tasty well presented selection of food. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Certainly worth a visit.

Wen here a few years ago portions were small and very pricey in fact over priced however the food is of an very high quality cud explain sum of the prices however I'm pleased to say that its no longer a Spanish restaurant it's now a Greek restaurant called mayane and the Spanish meson le pep is just around the corner now on John Williams Street which will improve foot fall.and I know the Greek side here of these hard working brothers will be just has successfull if not better than the Spanish half on john Williams Street I can't wait to visit mayane and I wishes these young chaps every success whi g has I said I know it will b a winner .

I visited at lunch time and it was quiet. Pleasant service but food was not as good as I had hoped.

We went on Saturday night and really enjoyed the live music- the guy who was playing the guitar is a real talent and was the best part of our experience that night. I think the restaurant should make more efforts though to make a better arrangement for the musician - some kind of central stage where everyone could hear and see him. The food was very average and quite overpriced though, hence 3 star.

Came on a very quiet Tuesday night. All the food arrived at once and you could see straight away it wasn't going to be great. The meatball were cold, the cod tated of nothing, even the tomato sauces they both came in were bland. Patatas Bravas were soft and soggy. They'd clearly been sat for ages then reheated. Nothing was good other than bread and balsamic vinegar. The waitresses were lovely and apologetic but the manager avoided us, which was just poor. They reduced the bill by two dishes and we left hungry.

Dreadful. We came here after my husband had been previously and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately the experience wasn’t the same. The food was cold and completely tasteless. We spoke to the waitress who took some of the good back to be microwaved and told the chef had sprinkled some paprika on it for flavour! We were left with the remaining food cold and no suggestion of a solution. The manager avoided us. Will never return

Was so looking forward to trying Maison La Pepa after hearing and reading great things. It was just ok, but we wouldn’t rush back. Whilst the tapas were tasty, they could and should have been warmer. The service was fine though and we did leave a tip for the servers. So wanted to like this place, but it just felt bang average which is a shame.

As tapas and Spain enthusiasts we had hoped for good enough but surpassed expectations. Generous well presented anchoa and bread with tomatoes and ailoli our favourites. A Saturday visit had a special atmosphere with an outstanding live Spanish classical and flamenco guitar player Definitely going again

Food and service is always great. Live music on a weekend is a fab touch.

Went here on a Saturday night (25th March) with my wife and we loved it. Got some olives....seafood salad and chorizo pate to start as we waited for our 6 tapas dishes we shared.....the staff were attentive and quick and the food was superb. £65 for all this food plus a wine and a beer. Great value too with vibrant atmosphere and live music in background....can't wait to return

Central location within walking distance of concert in the Town Hall. Clean and pleasantly decorated with very friendly attentive young staff. Good quality tapas served hot and quite quickly. Limited specials. Desserts nicely presented and only on specials board. Sadly tiramisu sold out but a good excuse to revisit. Building seems like a former bank and it’s quite a trek to the loo but worth it to visit interesting decorations. £70 for including wine, soft drinks for 4.
