Requested a large chips but got given what appeared to be a medium sized portion and get this - they charged me £3.50 for it! I couldn't believe it. This is LOWESTOFT! Not LONDON! Stop ripping off your customers and overcharging! I won't be coming back.

I had cod and chip's and to say the fish was fantastic is an understatement it was cooked to perfection skin removed cod was moist batter crispy but not to thick chip's were like real chunky chip's could not fault this place will definitely be going back there again

Had a home delivery x2 haddock large chips mushy peas was piping hot and so scrummy nicest i have had in a long time 😋😋 thank you Mermaid

Waited an hour for the stated 30 minute delivery, then called shop told food on way, 30 minutes later food still not arrived, call shop who state wrong address printed on ticket and they will sort it out, 30 minutes later... now 2 hours in, 2 stone cold cod and a luke warm tray of chips turn up, driver says "don't know how they got that wrong ticket has right address, phone and complain if the foods not ok". she knew she just delivered fish n chips that had been round the houses 30+ minutes earlier. Simply not good enough!

Had to wait 25 minutes for a basic fish and chip order for four people. The food was absolutely delicious but not worth the wait. Inside, everything lacked hygiene measures with kids loitering inside and delivery drivers taking up seating spaces whilst patiently waiting customers stayed outside in the rain to be Covid compliant. Overall, the focus seemed to be far more on delivering rather than taking care of the regulars and visitors who bothered to step foot inside the premises. Customer service poor - no apology for the wait.

So looking forward to having fish and chips,last visit perfect.This time ordered 1 hour before we came and picked it up.Waited 20 minutes as more interested in doing home deliveries The fish had thick greasy batter chips thick and soggy and as for curry sauce yuk Will not be returning

This popular chippy has been under new management for almost a year and the quality is amazing - best chips ever!

We fouund this chippy and wow am i glad it was loverly the fish was skinned and boned the fish was loverly and white fresh fish ang great chips not greasy at all loverly staff great price really enjoyed well done

Have had previous meals from the Mermaid but tonight it was awful with partially cooked, near raw food. They were busy but that is no excuse, near raw, inedible fish is just not acceptable. For their own sake, I hope that this is a one-off.

Best fish and chips in the area (fish is skinless and boneless with a light batter and served with lemon wedges)

Wow ! very tasty fish and chips . All cooked fresh , piping hot ! recommended . been from the midlands most fish we get don't reach the ends of the batter !

Not making a drama.... I asked for the chips to be wrapped in paper because the polystyrene is unrecyclable. After waiting for it to be ready for five minutes we come back in the shop and they have wrapped the polystyrene in paper...DUH! or just trying to be funny, the young man who did not speak great english blamed the girl on the till for being funny. We returned 2 nights later for 8 people to buy fish and chips. They watched us come up the hill and closed the door on us.... 9pm we are now closed. Overall I found that with Bridge street as a whole.... 8.30pm is closed???? tourists not welcome!!

This fish and chip shop has changed hands a few times lately , this evening we ordered cod and chips and it was delivered. Friends had recommended these fish and chips and they did not disappoint !! The cod was flaky and fresh and the batter was thin and crispy . No grease in site . We really enjoyed our fish and chips this evening and will most definitely be using them again .

Great friendly atmosphere, food was amazing! The shop is fresh in decor, all staff wearing PPE, highly recommend.

Used this takeaway on a whim, have to say despite appearances the food was freshly cooked, the fish was huge, I struggled to finish it. Not at all greasy either. Would use again.

I'd heard the place was under new management and thought I'd ive it a go as it was about to rain and I was a little way from home.The place itself is a little tatty but I decided to try a sit in fish and chip lunch that the proprietor told me would be very good. It was cooked fresh and served with lemon and complimentary tartare sauce it was excellent and now I have a dilemma which chippie to use in Oulton Broad as the two there I use are both very good.....nice problem to have.

I am surprised by the reviews on here. We have just visited here this evening and couldn’t fault anything.Fish portions were huge; ordered 2x regular fish and large chips for me and two children. Plenty to go round. Fish was really meaty, cooked to perfection and the batter was lovely. Hubby had cheeseburger & chips and once tried he ordered another portion of chips on top as they were so good!!Homemade tartare sauce was complimentary and really tasty.Very good value for money and friendly service.

Awfully small portion of "large" chips for £2 I was robbed. Will not go back again. Too many good fish and chip shops in Lowestoft.

Food is okay for what you pay not my first choice ever but its food proberly better if there kids ect as its a cheap pub not really my kind of taste.. Abit to standard for me as food is clearly processed and brought in... No thought into the food or its prep.

Very disappointed this evening, thought I would try this fish and chip takeaway as not been there since it was taken over. 3 Portions of Cod and chips. There was nothing ready, so they started the oil up and it didn't smell great. When I got home, and unboxed the food, it was a bit anaemic , could have been left for a few more minutes. The batter was floury and the chips were white (but soft, so edible). But then I found a black hair in the batter and my Daughter found worms in hers. We chucked it out, I didn't want to go back to the shop. So portioned my fish for the cats, even the cats wouldn't eat it. People have told me today, that it sounds like they are buying cheap fish.

We have used this chip shop for a number of years now whilst on holiday so we're really disappointed last year when it was closed down.It was back open this year however but we were a bit dubious as it was under new management and some of the reviews weren't great.We decided just to have chips to see what it was like and I would have to say they were excellent.They were crispy and tasty and the portion size was large with one bag enough for both if us.The only slight negative was the owners ability to understand what I was asking for, he didn't seem to be familiar with the term 'scraps' when I asked for them and there was a big of confusion around wrapped and open.All said I would definitely return however.

A pesar de ser gestionado por la nueva administración estaba decepcionado por la porción de patatas fritas que recibí eran muy blancos y poco hecha. El personal podría hacerles ir por otra de 5 o 10 minutos, hasta que fuimos doradas. Podría haber sido mejor. Sin duda no volver aquí de nuevo.

Después de leer los comentarios que estábamos bastante preocupados, pero la comida era excelente y no un poco como los comentarios anteriores. El pescado estaba en una buena empanada crujiente y las patatas fritas eran correctas. Ambos aclararon los platos, sabroso. A través de la página Web sólo conseguimos comer.

En primer lugar el término "Lost in Translation" vienen a la mente.

Entrega recibida esta noche - debo decir la peor "fish and chips" que he tenido. Aparte de silencio sobre el inodoro durante la última media hora debido a varias fishbones en mi cod ser atrapado en mi garganta. Las patatas fritas eran blancas y unediable anemicly. Nunca comer aquí. Oído críticas muy bueno también! Pérdida de tiempo.

Greasy fish, greasy chips wish I'd taken notice of the reviews. Just terrible find somewhere else to eat

Visitamos en un día frío de diciembre y recibió una señora amable. La comida es preparada a la orden así es bien caliente. También sirven en cajas y luego tiras envueltas que asegura que se mantiene caliente en el viaje de regreso a casa. Pescado y pasta estaban muy bien, pero las patatas fritas eran un poco cruda y grasienta.

Nos alojamos en Oulton Broad durante el período de Navidad y fue inicialmente decepcionado como habíamos planeado un plato de cena de Nochebuena y tienda anuncia que estaban abiertas a las 8 de la tarde. Llegamos a las 7:30 pm para encontrarlo cerrado y todas las luces.

Nueva menagment, FOID44 siempre caliente y fresco, pescado y patatas fritas, tamaño goid u pueden disfrutar de té o café, gran encantador menú de postres, tnx a todos xx

The other reviews weren't very favourable but as I was in the area I thought I would give it a try. After a cold morning on the water it was nice to get some hot food. The food was cooked to order which made me thing the place wasn't very busy. Anyway it didn't take long to cook my large battered sausage and medium chips. The portion filled the takeaway container and was good.The lady taking the orders was polite and business like.

Wouldn't bother.....Pouring down with rain and owner wouldn't even let myself and three little ones sit in with our chips 'because we hadn't ordered fish'.....no one else was in the place. Will never return.

The welcome was warm and the order was executed exactly but I'm afraid that's where the positives end. The food itself was not good. The haddock was dry , the savaloys were quite probably the worst tasting savaloys I have ever tasted. The chips were ok and the large portion was large. I think that,because we were so looking forward to fish and chips, and being spoiled with our own local one, that is sublime, it made the disappointment worse. I would recommend that they buy the savaloys from another supplier and perhaps not leave fish sitting in the hot cabinet for long periods. Sorry guys but you could do better.

Quite possibly one of the worst chip shops I've ever been to, the man who works there very badly needs an assistant or co-worker to help prepare and cook the food but that's not even the worst bit: he is incredibly stingy with his chips and you don't even get enough for a portion and I found myself having to wait about 20 minutes before I even got what I wanted, only to be disappointed to find that the so-called large portion of chips I asked for was a very small portion, only enough to feed a baby! The only reason this guy does well is because of the number of holidaymakers that pass by it, who have absolutely no idea that they're about to be ripped off. Avoid at all costs!
