Ordered king prawn curry ,chips and prawn crackers . Very nice indeed, fast service, food was hot .. Will be ordering again.

Our usual Chinese was closed, so thought we would try this one. We ordered prawn toast, which was lovely, special foo young with fried rice for my partner, he really enjoyed it. I ordered king prawn in oyster sauce with boiled rice. I was really disappointed with the sauce as it just tasted like gravy, it had a ton of onions and Carrot and a decent amount of prawns but that was it. The full tub was mainly gravy and onions.

An absolute farce. Ordered a takeaway on Christmas Eve we was told to collect within an hour. Walked in and asked for payment straight away. Two hours later still stood in the Chinese waiting on food to be prepared. Wouldn’t refund when asked, said they do offer refunds would knock amount of bill next time. Food eventually came no apologies, food wasn’t great cold and greasy. If you’re inundated with orders, which I can appreciate you were with it being Christmas Eve stop taking them. You clearly struggled to fulfil the orders you had and compromised the quality of food & and customer service. I’d of rather had the order cancelled or not accepted then pay for poor quality food and even poorer service.

Waited 45 minutes for meal. Then they gave me cold food. Been using for years. Never Again, Will try chopstick house.

The food here is pretty good we prefer it to some of the other Chinese takeaways in the area.

Lovely delicious food at a good price

Being going to this take away for years at least once a week as it was the best chinese take away in hull but past couple of times the food has been declining but i thought it was one off. But no!! Ive just got a take away from them and it was absolutely shocking, the chicken tasted off, it had a horrible taste to it, I tried to tell them only to be met with hostility and nastiness.. I won't ever be going back there again and certainly DONT recommend it, choose a different one

Asked for a orange Duck and she said sorry we don't do it. She said how about lemon duck and i asked for sauce separately she said no problem. Got it home and they had given me duck curry. I don't like curry at all. The guy on phone said we don't do lemon duck only curry duck. The girl offered me lemon duck sk j must be a liar. Not happy didn't listen to my order

We have been using this takeaway for many years and all the meals have been of a very good standard especially the special fried rice

Worst place to eat ordered a family meal it was disgusting no taste and the noodles was bland no flaver at all not one of us enjoyed the meal been using this Chinese for years but will define not ever again

Use to be brilliant but really gone downhill DONT listen to orders properly I ask for mild ((I have really bad stomach issues)) for them to make it extra spicy now it’s in the bin, ask for gravy and chips they make curry and chips, ask for boiled rice I got fried (hate fried) going backwards and forwards costing me time & fuel as they don’t deliver Going somewhere else from now on

Horrendous. Had to foo yung back as it was raw and leaked all over my car. And all they could say was sorry. So had to clean my car out. Never use these again

The Curry feels like jelly and tastes dry the chips aren’t even cooked properly and the rice tastes like bum. Don’t know how people can rate this 5 star! It’s awful. Needs closing down

By far one of my top Chinese takeaway places. Their Chicken Fried Rice is the standard that I hold others to. Can't recommend them enough.

The food is very good and plenty full

The starter was a disappointment. The spare ribs were awful, the prawn toast was soggy and the spring rolls were medioca at best. The special fried rice was lovely to be fair, best I've had for a long time and I enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken too. Shame the starter was so poor, otherwise I would have given a glowing review

Utterly terrible. £30 of dreadful cooking. An embarrassment to the Chinese community. There is no way some of these reviews are real.. Do yourself a favour, and find somewhere else to buy food.

2nd time we have used merit and 2nd time order was wrong. When i went back to collect the correct order the chef came out and said nothing wrong. His attitude was awful. Dont use

Sorry to say used this Chinese takeaway for years. Started to go downhill in terms of putting prices up, reducing portion sizes and taste. Decided to give them another go after lockdown on 16th May 2020 and wished we hadn’t. Taste was awful both Chow Mein and Special Curry. Chips were awful too. No taste at all. It all tasted like it had been reheated. Total waste of money and majority went in the bin. Sorry but will not be returning.

Gorgeous food, really nice staff, only downfall is they don't offer delivery.

Specifically popped in just to see if this takeaway sold cheesy chips before going elsewhere.( being a Chinese we were unsure but family members had different preferences) The answer was yes so we paid, popped elswhere then came back & ordered some more food for other family members.1 request being chips & gravy. We got home & had been given 2 portions of salt & peper chips instead! ( so cheesy chips AND chips & gravy ordered at separate times both sound like salt & pepper chips) Which no one likes. On going back while other family ate there food while hot it was claimed that was what was ordered as it was on their own receipt! ( we was not given a copy) They were the ones using the till to order our food & had obviously misheard!! They supplied us with the chips & gravy but didn't do cheesy chips...which is why we asked in the first place so we still had to go elsewhere! Untie the bags & check you have the correct order before leaving or ask for & check your receipt. As for the chips & gravy, the chips were quite hard & bland.

After being recommended we gave merit Chinese takeaway ago. All I can say is my friend must have something wrong with his taste buds. The food was bland and tasteless. After ringing to get a refund (yes it was that bad) the manager said that they didnt use chemicals like other takeaways do that's why it was tasteless and they had other complaints earlier that week. Personally I thought herbs and spices with a passion for food made a good meal. Well wont be going back there and definitely would not recommend

Just been to merit Chinese again, house chowmein & curry sauce absolute beaut! More meat on my plate than a farmers stock :) AMAZING FOOD

Popped in yesterday, reasonably priced food. Food wasnt great, egg fried rice was overcooked and stogey, chow mein was a soggy mess, beef and tomatoes were bland as was the chop suey... We shall avoid this place in future, threw most of it in the bin!!

We ordered chicken chow mein, ribs, egg fried rice and a duck dish! Cost £17 + all I can say, it all was unrecognisable! The rice was a clump of tasteless stodge! As for the ribs, fatty bones! And the so called duck had freezer burn, obviously they have a job-lot in the freezer! It was disgusting! We feel robbed! DO NOT GO HERE FOR CHINESE FOOD. They don't know what Chinese food is!

I used to go out to restaurants on some jelly occasions. But now I just get a fantastic take away from merit. And just relax at home with a much better meal. The chap who serves in there is so pleasant. And the food is great

We have visited this take away for nearly 25 or so years but just recently the food seems to have fallen in standard. Chips scrappy and like they are from previous night. Curry sauce was a bit tasteless.

I use merit quite often I would say once a fortnight and I have tried most of the meals on the menu over time and have always enjoyed the majority of them you are always made welcome by Craig and his family

I've ordered a number of times from Merit. Food is always of a good quality and the service is polite and efficient. Well worth a visit if you enjoy Chinese food as they have an extensive menu.

This has to be one of the best Chinese Take Aways in Hull and it has been for years. Everything I've had from this place has always been amazing. Would highly recommend! You know it's good, when they don't have a delivery service, because people are willing to collect their orders! ;)

Visited to collect a telephone order that we had made before hand. This takeaway does not deliver which can be a hassle having to collect however it is well worth it. Arrived within ten minutes or ordering via telephone and food was available immediately despite the takeaway being really busy. Ordered a special foo Young with rice and beef in black bean sauce, also with rice. Came to around £11 which was cheaper than our usual Chinese takeaway! Food was brilliant and nicest we have tried in Hull by far. Will be returning.

This take away possible looks not the most up to date and be aware they don't accept cards, however the newsagent has a cash machine. Always sampling our favourite dishes when we try somewhere new- we were very impressed with the quality of the food. Will be going again

I've been eating from this Chinese for years and being honest I have never had a bad meal.The food is always cooked to a high standard and it is well worth the 6-7 mile round trip.I can't find any faults atall and the service is always very professional.One little gripe for me and maybe hundreds of other people is they don't deliver!Overall well worth a visit.

We used to use this place a lot, but a couple of years ago we had about 4 or 5 really bad meals from there on the trot, so we stopped going. Tried it again last night and was pleasantly surprised. It seems to have returned to its former glory. Only downside to them is that they don't deliver and they're closed one night during the week
