Lovely hot food shame the old lady with long blonde permed hair serving in the cafe had such an attitude. Spoilt what otherwise would have been a lovely treat meal out for me.

The first time I have ever been disappointed with this fish restaurant. The staff were as attentive as usual, but the food was definitely not up to their usual standard, Fish was overcooked and chips were lukewarm. What a disappointment. Let's hope it was just a blip.

The best food and service I've ever had

I went to merchants fish bar with my partner last month and we did not have a good experience. The chips were stale and cold as well as the fish which has made me feel sick for 2 days after.

We live in Bewdley and our two grandchildren came on a visit from London. We walked around Bewdley and along the river reminiscing on their experiences in their younger days and decided on the spur of the moment to drop in for an early supper at the Merchant’s Fish Bar restaurant. We had an amazing experience the food was generous portion size. The fish was beautifully cooked encased in wonderfully crispy batter and the chips were also cooked to perfection too. Although we were the last customers in the restaurant the staff were so patient, kind and helpful after what I am sure had been a very hectic day for them all! We had such a fabulous experience we have vowed not to leave it too long till our next visit. Huge thanks to all at Merchant's House, we will see you again soon.

This is honestly the best chip shop I have ever had. Due to its location I was expecting it to be very expensive but it was really reasonably priced. The chips were beautiful and not a single black bit to be seen on any chip! Would defiantly go back

The beat Fish and chips in Bewdley

Really busy, queued for 20 minutes. Unfortunately it really wasn't worth the wait, really disappointing pale uncooked chips, and a tiny piece of fish in a lot of over cooked batter. Some of the order forgot and had to go back in. Staff seemed stressed and disorganised. Real shame as supposed to be a little Friday night treat with the family.

GLUTEN FREE CHIPS EVERYDAY in fact all of the chips are gluten free! There is also a gluten free menu, just order these items when you walk in, and by the time you're at the front of the queue they'll be ready or almost ready. The Gluten free Battered halloumi is to die for. Honestly this is absolutely delicious . I've never had such thick and crispy gluten free batter. Ditto for the onion rings. Dont miss these! Amazing gluten free food! Most prices are reasonable, but the peas/curry/gravy are poor value, for £1.40 you only get a small dipping sauce sized pot, smaller than a traditional small pot! Bewdley is a beautiful place with lots of spots outside along the river to sit and eat, and there is also a dine in restaurant. * Update * July 2024 ~ Still gluten free and still amazing!

Visited on a Friday lunchtime so it was very busy, the staff were super friendly and efficient, we ordered fish and chips and a gluten free fish and chips with g/f curry sauce. The lady who took our order was more than helpful and knowledgable regarding the g/f . The food was excellent , good size portions and well presented. Highly recommend , will definitely call again when next in the area.

I have been to Merchants today and the fish is exceptional it’s very white and very fresh, my health is not the best but the young lady’s did look after me very well indeed.

Not family friendly. Visited for lunch with a friend today and my 11 month baby. Food was lovely no complaints at all, however as we paid our bill I apologised that my daughter had dropped some food on the floor. The lady proceeded to make a fuss of how much of a mess my daughter had made. I was extremely embarrassed, especially with a restaurant full of customers. I would of happily cleaned it up had have been given the chance. Would of taken 30 seconds with dustpan and brush. The restaurant could do with a radio or some music to create some atmosphere

Great portion size. Easy, relaxed atmosphere and everything was just right, even the Rijo coffee in lovely glass cups! It was a fair drive from home but really worth the effort and will be going again 😋

Amazing Food, the best fish and chip shop I have ever visited! The fish falls apart in the mouth and the curry sauce is very nice. Mini cod and chips is enough for a main meal and a reasonable portion. Always nice to visit here, eat fish and chips whilst sitting by the water.

Ordered mini cod, 2 x tinned roe, regular chips plus 2 x mushy peas, just before 8pm tonight 28/2/24. £14.40 - paid by phone at 8.01pm. Got home - and I live quite locally, to find there was no roe at all, and what food there was went cold very quickly, even though put on to very hot plates. No answer to ringing them 8.20-8.35 and the phone just kept ringing out. Really cross as I spent £5 on that tinned roe!

This is simply my favourite fish and chip shop in the area by far. The food is always fresh and delicious too. It’s the reason it gets extremely busy all year round. Good prices and it’s highly recommended

Ordered specials which were cooked to order quickly. Generous portion of battered chips which were delicious. Server provided extra wrapping to keep food warm as she was aware we had a distance to travel home.

Really enjoy the food here think the chips need a little longer sometimes to my liking. Doesn't stop me returning almost every time I visit Bewdley.

Been eating in and out from Merchants for decades. Basically the best chipshop. But went in Saturday and after repeating my order several times to the lad behind the counter in a empty shop. I found myself wating in a full shop 15 minutes later questioning why every one else had been an gone with the same food as we had ordered, his attitude and body language really let's your buisness down. Apparently we disrespected him. Standard reply from today's third rate snowflakes. Unacceptable and very disappointing. The only criticism I have had from your shop in over 30 years.

The staff at the café are brilliant. Had an amazing lunch here, one of us had to go somewhere local and they were very accommodating in making sure they had fresh food to eat when they got back. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. Thank you to you all.

Really good fish and chips, I went for the Haddock which was so big it wouldn't even fit in the box. Great mushy peas and curry sauce. Everything seemed to be cooked to order and was piping hot. There is a sit down restaurant but we got a takeaway to sit by the river. Good value for money too!

On a brief visit to this beautiful place, we stumbled across Merchants Fish Bar. All we can say is you MUST call in and have something to eat there👌. Its very clean and plenty of space for you to eat in or take out. The staff are extremely friendly and more than helpful and accommodating. We had fish and chips, the fish was amazingly light, tasty and very LARGE. The battered chips were out of this world. It sounds crazy, but having never heard of them before, let alone tried them and battered mushrooms (yummy 😋) I never leave chips, but they beat me unfortunately, however, the staff offered a takeout box if we wanted to take our remaining meals home. The food was hot, nothing greasy and worth every penny spent, albeit NOT expensive at all and GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY and highly recommended!😍😊.

Amazing gluten free fish and chips as usual. Shout out to Dylan who came up with the idea of putting customer initials on the take away bags makes it so much easier to know when your order is ready.

I’ve drawn the conclusion that this establishment exists entirely for the purpose of ripping off day trippers with overpriced, small portions. As a local, I’ve experienced such a consistently awful service, delivered with such pride and attitude from the staff. Over a sustained period , I’ve seldom been able to leave with the order I’ve been in for, as they are almost always sold out of something - unless you’re happy to have it microwaved… yes, £5 for a microwaved pukka pie, with the idea suggested as though it’s perfectly normal and acceptable! They open and close when they like, mainly because of the fortunes they must make selling a handful of chips for £3-odd… criminal really, and yet they get away with it because they’re on the riverside. My advice is to go to catchems end on the way into town… more reasonable price, more of it, and better quality.

Omg !!. Do not enter the door. I arrived at 8.10pm last Wednesday. Merchant due to close at 8.30pm. I walked and ordered a lightly battered cod to be told one was already one cooked. I asked politely if I could have a freshly cooked one.Huff and puff however she agreed. I said I am about to order a taxi she said it will be ready in 5 mins. The taxi says it will be 18 mins. I also would like to point out that was absolutely pouring down outside. However told I wasn’t allowed to wait in the shop because they’re closing early. So she actually asked me to leave. I left in the pouring rain ☔️. I waited outside and then a young lad arrived. He just walked in, waited for his supper while I’m waiting outside, and I mean it the pouring rain. The lady was dressed in blue and her hair up in a bun. The young lad spilt the gravy and didn’t even apologise !!. The chips were horrible and the fish was like a small fish finger!!. I have tried to connect Merchants with a email, however no reply..

This is something I have wanted to say for quite a few and even a lot more years than you think! Merchant Fish and Chips, By the River, in Bewdley! No one will complain about your fish and chips and anything else you sell, including pies, sausages, roe and your curry sauce is legendary, because it's just Par Excellence! It's the greatest fish and chip shop in Bewdley! The staff, get it right every time. I cannot say it's inexpensive but it's still worth every penny! Fabulous Everytime. You are just the best in Worcestershire, and I should know! Went to School in Bewdley, from Far Forest, but got my meals from there when I was a younger man. Still the Greatest and always will be😍. We always have our fish and chips from here as they are always top quality. However, we thought we would try the new seafood platter box for a change. Unfortunately, the quality and quantity were nothing like the picture on the Facebook page. There was very little food in the box and certainly not worth £9.00. Will definitely not be ordering this again. VERY DISAPPOINTED 😞

Selected large cod and small chips x 2. Fish cooked to order. The fish was fantastically fresh, white and cooked to perfection, the batter was light and crispy and the chips were fabulous, tasty, non greasy and the portion was more than adequate. The staff were great, the turnover of customers and the swift service was amazing, no one had to wait more than a couple of minutes (unless cooking to order) Highly recommended

Tasty and fresh fish and chips, curry sauce has a lovely flavour. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Outdoor seating space is in high demand and may take a while to get a table!

We went on the 28th of June 23. They were the worst chips we've ever had from them. We only had 1 curry sauce in the bag we ordered and paid for 2. This has happened a few times now. I know suppose I should have checked after previous experience but there isn't anywhere you can put your bag on to check. We're very disappointed with Merchants and won't be going back for a while.

Second time here. First being in lockdown and then last week, food was fresh, tasty and good portions. I will be back again.

Very disappointed with the food today. Had a tinned roe, which was all of a quarter of an inch thick and chips with little flavour, rather like cardboard. A 6mm roe. Haven’t stopped moaning about it! Won’t be returning. Catchems End for me in the future.

For the price of £41.00 not very good. Also items missing from my order!

We rarely eat fish and chips but were starving and the shop was busy so we went for it. The service was fast and friendly. We then found a nice spot by the river and savoured some of the best fish and chips we've ever had.

Went to this chip shop after a long day on the Severn valley railway trip on the way back to our campsite, we went into the restaurant due to no benches being free by the Riverside. I found the food overpriced and average at best...

Amazing Gluten free, Coeliac safe fish, chips, battered sausage, battered mushrooms, and a piece of Southern fried chicken,... ALL GLUTEN FREE! AMAZING, and a fair price Worth every penny, the fish was beautiful and the curry sauce was delicious, fantastic service. If you're looking for a trusted chip shop, this IS the one. Portion size unbelievably small for the cost. Also found the food to be quite greasy compared to others.

Best place for fish and chips in Bewdley. A tad pricey but always consistent. Also offer battered chips at request. Not the biggest of portions. Gets very busy on a weekend, queues out of the door!

Had to wait an age in the queue and then chips were completely tasteless. Won’t be rushing back. Shame as we have been here several times and normally much tastier. Not a fan of plastic forks either.
