I have coming to this fish and chip shop since 1977 and it's still the best fish and chips in the world. A loyal customer for 48 years.

I am very pleased. Chips are fresh, fish is delicious. Very customer friendly. I would recommend.

Great food, very polite customer service !!

I have become a regular customer here over the past year. The chips are always cooked fresh and are always top notch. I used to moan to myself going to other chip shops when the chips weren't ready and I had to wait, but time and experience have taught me that if your chips are regularly all ready to go at a chip shop, that it usually means that they've probably been in the tray for an hour or two. The top notch Service and welcoming conversation is always there at this chip shop. Staff are wonderful. Can't recommend this place enough. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed 🍟🐟

Worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life... Cod was soggy and definitely wouldn't call it battered. Chips were soggy and didn't taste any salt and vinegar even though asked. Even after going back in and complaining I was asked to pay for ketchup! Definitely would not recommend. Charging £22 for two regular cod and one chips with two drinks that taste as awful as they do. Best part was the cans of drink.

I have to say, it was a fantastic experience! The fish was perfectly battered crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. You can tell it was freshly cooked, and the portion size was generous. The chips were just as impressive—golden, crunchy, and seasoned to perfection. The staff were friendly and quick, and everything was piping hot when I got home. It's a real treat for anyone craving classic fish and chips! I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend! I wish they would tell me the secret ingredient for the fish lool

I have visited this Fish & Chip shop many times. The customer service is excellent on arrival. The staff are very welcoming and polite and have nice friendly faces 🙂. The food is lovely and fresh and the cod is delicious, very nice and fleshy inside. The batter is perfectly Crispy. The chips are nice and the potatoe inside is very moist and not dry like some fish & chip shops. The savaloy sausage is also very nice, but sometimes they can lack a bit of taste like today, but I’m not sure why. I would definitely visit this Fish & Chip shop again! 😊

Visited Melfort fish bar as I am aiming to try all the chippies. It is near Thornton heath station hidden on a residential road. Prices are affordable and they offer skate and haddock as well. As I had a train to catch I just got the cod and chips for 7 pounds because skate requires 20 mins. The cod was tasty and comes with skin which is good. Chips are crispy and soft in the middle. As I needed a box [normally wrapped] the fish was too long so had to be folded over which reminded me of some morbid news where they sawed the legs from a corpse to fit in a coffin.

Best fish I've had in a long time and lovely service. I will definitely come again next time I visit London!!

Shambolic nonsense - courier given wrong address by company - he phoned me 5 times - awful - told him to take it away - have cancelled Just Eat account and will never use Melfort again - unbelievably chaotic mess which I would not even bother to get a refund from - shameful.

Excellent fish n chips today had 2 portions of regular fish which was like large..had large chips more than enough for 2 adults...nice thin batter (edible) and nice big chips...good opening time (all day practically) no que due to 3/4's of hour before England game !! Paid £20.25 which I didn't think overly priced ....for the size and quantity of real cod ... ir costs more at seaside and much smaller...definitely will return...Thank you 👍👌 Had another fIsh n chip takeaway at weekend...EXCELLENT AGAIN👍 ITS NOW GONE STRAIGHT TO TOP OF LIST AS FAVORITE TAKEAWAY AND WONT BOTHER GOING ANYWHERE ELSE NOW...MANY THANKS AGAIN👏👏.KEEP UP EXCELLENT QUALITY..AND I WILL STAY A REGULAR CUSTOMER 👍😀

This is the 3rd time I have ordered delivery and the third time I have had old reheated chips.. it is as if they give the old chips to delivery and keep the fresh to customers who order in the shop. This is a change to how it used to be…

I'm Canadian and I first time i had this was in 2013, And now again in 2024. The fish and chips was outstanding.

i live 5 minutes from the restaurant and should have arrived at 1905. The driver went in the opposite direction and ended up arriving at 1930 with cold food. While the driver was heading in the wrong direction I contacted custoemr service who failed to tell me that he had been given another order which took him in the opposite direction. The driver agreed that it was crazy for him to be given another delivery so far away and not be able to deliver to me first. Food was cold when it arrived. I would like a refund

prep took a long time and then the courier took nearly 15 mins to do a 3 min journey. meant food was soggy and a bit cold.

1st time I tried there food would ho back again

I ordered half chicken and chips. Order time kept getting pushed back. Eventually the app said order had been delivered when it hadn't! I called the restaurant and the person I spoke to was completely unhelpful and rude. Told me at first they didn't have my order until I insisted he look again. He then 'found' it and said it had been delivered and kept talking over me, then had the nerve to call me rude! Completely dismissed me and just said I needed to get in touch with just eat. DO NOT USE.

food was delicious, for quality I cannot fault them. However, the estimated time kept changing and was 10 minutes later than the original time given. 2 bottles of drink were missing and also a jar of tartar sauce. The missing items kinda killed it for me and I'm unsure if I will order from them again.

Drivers go by satnav and always go to try and get in the back of the block I live so when the food arrives it is always cold

I had the large cod and chips tonight and it was outstandingly good: light/crispy batter, fish appropriately seasoned, chips fresh/not greasy, and a generous portion so great value for money. Oh, and friendly service too! No photograph because I gobbled it all down sharpish while it was hot 😋...

Been coming here for 40 years-never again-as soon as I opened and sampled £10.50 cod and chips it went right in the bin- absolutely disgusting!!!!

The Coca Cola is always ice cold and the chips/cod are always piping hot and crispy!

Large is not a large it’s the exact sane size as small the thing is some people order for reasons that’s not due to laziness and companies really the mic food was okay can’t really complain it’s chips

Usually love ordering. Fish was flaky and bitty. Not the chunky cod I was expecting. Maybe sent a different type of fish. Chips not golden, over fried and crispy. Not the soft fluffy chips i am used to. Very disappointed

Using the Melfort Fish Bar today the meal was very expensive and the fish was dry with too much batter and greasy. I could not finish my meal and will not be ordering from there again. Such a waste of money I should be requesting a refund.

The prices are extortionately high now, the increase is much higher than the rate of inflation in a very short space of time. The food was nice, but it used to be a little tastier.

Food was bland today. This is the second time I’ve had bad food. May have to find another chippy. Pity cause they used to be really good.

Fish was a bit rubbery this time and the batter was wet which is unusual as they are always consistent in delivering amazing food. Mushy peas were quite thick and clumpy. Will still order from them as this may have just been a one off.

Do not buy from here food is disgusting. Chips are stale taste like rubber and cooked in same oil from weeks ago. Service is even worse. The men are awfully rude. It’s been like this for a while my mum didn’t realise and went there today it the chips looked brown. They don’t give you fresh food. I’m sure this review will be removed but people need to know- don’t give them your money. If I could post a picture of the food I would!

Excellent Service - a family business that sets standards, grace and humility in equal measures...indeed...in a South London chippy!!! The locals have an absolute gem here! Competition is quite high in the area and there are some magnificent chippies (Ponds, Frydays, Donegal's) but it's the value and quality that wins here. Not what it used to be. Has clearly changed hands and doesn't taste anything like it used to. The last piece of rock I bought was dry and horrible. Such a shame as my family have been going to Melfort for over 40 years

This chip shop is by far my favourites. The chips are nice and golden with the right amount of salt and vinegar and when you bite in to them they are buttery. The cod is good portion nice and crisp. The batter has a addictive taste with that authentic fish and chip smell, good soft,flakey fish. The fish cakes are to die for. Simply the best delicate fish flavour not salty or over fishy, and again a distinct buttery taste that I don't see in other shops. The meats are also HALAL people,sausage battered or otherwise taste nice. The staff are nice and welcoming. A gem in Thornton heath
