Excellent food though lighting was not cosy ! Most of clientele were ethically Chinese which we took as a good sign. We were not disappointed. Took one of the simple menu options. Excellent contrasting flavours and textures.

Found Mei Dim by accident and a little gem. Welcomed by very pleasant staff and whilst the place was rammed ( Chinese new year) space was made for us. Food was excellent and plenty of it at a great price. Try it you’ll like it

We have a great evening meal celebrating our dear friend's birthday. The service is excellent and the food is fantastic. We have a very enjoyable evening. Thanks the chefs, the service staff there. Will definitely going again.

Service is shocking… greeted well, and quick to seat us… however, took ages to order or ask if we wanted any drinks… once ordered plates were basically thrown at us as well as cutlery, not one conversation made with us. Once finished asked for the bill and they were quick to give this to us and take our money. Wouldn’t waste your money here… food was nice but the service brings it down a lot.

Worst tasting Chinese tea couple with chaotic service which was simply the worst I’ve ever experienced. Asking for things 3-4 times observing them taking no notice (request dishes, and not writing order down and walking off, obviously Just ignoring the request). The low quality food compounded by poor service eg bringing out dim sum 30 min after initial dim sum dishes spoiled the whole experience. It’s like serving soup whilst consuming the sweet. Why? Very disappointed. We use to frequent this restaurant before the make over as it was a more traditional dim sum restaurant. I doubt very much we do this again given the plethora of choice within a 100m.

We went to celebrate a family member birthday and they provided great food and service. It was a lovely dinner and have lots of laughs．

Decided to try this with my other half and two kids. Very disappointed indeed. The food was very bland and communication from staff was poor!! Three meats with rice was on special offier for £9.80 yet upon checking the bill, we were charged £13.80!! I asked why we had been overcharged and the grumpy cashier lady said as we were paying by card (she didn’t even bother to ask and we had every intention of paying cash). We were charged 4 person Chinese tea (despite my children not drinking a single drop) and my other half having a pint of coke! We were charged £1 for a tiny dip of chilli oil and one of our dishes didn’t even turn up! None of these charges were explained. Staff did not crack a single smile whilst we were there the whole time! MAKE SURE YOU DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILL FOR HIDDEN CHARGES!!! Definitely won’t be back anytime soon!!! £55 bill and we all left still hungry and unsatisfied!!

I stumbled across this. Headed for a famous local restaurant but I was too early for the kitchen. So I took a chance. It was as expected. Wide variety of familiar authentic dishes at reasonable prices. I have been served a lot less for a lot more money. Clientele was mostly Cantonese speaking, whilst the staff are a mixture of mainland Chinese and old hongkongers. I felt re assured. Service was polite by Chinese standard. Don’t expect Michelin attitude. It was fast and furious, and re assuringly efficient. Cash only for <£15 transaction. I have arrived home.

My new go to place when I want a dim sum feast. They serve all of your favourites and some you’ve yet to discover Food is always piping hot and freshly made.

We was in Manchester City centre for 2 nights so on the Saturday night which was our second night we went into china town. We went downstairs in this traditional old type Chinese restaurant where we was not sure what to eat so we went for the Mei dim banquet at £30.50 each which included, hot and sour soup with prawn crackers, salt and pepper ribs, prawn on toast, chicken skewers with satay sauce, chicken spring roll and crispy seaweed, aromatic crispy duck with pancake’s, king prawn with ginger and spring onion, beef fillet in satay sauce, fried mixed vegetable, yeung chow fried rice, sliced duck in a lemon & honey sauce. What a feast, delicious and very plentiful with the staff being very friendly.

Having lived in Manchester three years ago, we couldn’t wait to return back to our favorite dim sum restaurant. It looks like it has changed hands but the food is still impeccable. We probably ordered way too much food but it makes for good leftovers lol. Can’t wait to visit Manchester again. The service was again top notch And the food was awesome. I would definitely recommend.

Came for dim sum and loved it! The service is fast & efficient - don't expect waiters and waitresses with big smiles and sweet welcomes - but this doesn't detract from a great meal. Just relax into it and accept that you are in a traditional Chinese restaurant. Order your pot of tea (green tea served as standard or jasmine) when you sit down and ask for the dim sum menu and any specials. We started with steamed dim sum, went onto tripe with ginger & spring onion, chicken feet in black bean, fried dim sum & rice dishes. We were filled to the brim with yum cha (to drink tea) and the dim sum (touch your heart) certainly we did!. We will definitely be back.

I ordered special chow Mein and when it arrived it looked horrible the veg meat and seafood assortment were just plonked onto the top of noodles with a bland sauce on top. The sauce was bland as was the meat and seafood I’ve had much better chow mein from my local take away . I do not recommend the food restaurant

Came here fairly late after a couple of hours in the pub. We were “greeted” by a miserable woman who didn’t say hello and just said “you can eat if you don’t have a starter, we close at 10pm”. Fair enough we arrived just before 9.30pm but she could have been polite. We were hungry and decided to stay. There were a few small groups of people in there but there was no atmosphere. The room was cold and uninviting and more like a canteen than a restaurant. Staff kept walking passed our table but I had to ask for someone to take a drinks order. When the food arrived it was pleasant enough but definitely overpriced. We left at 10pm and even though we’d only been there 30mins, couldn’t have a starter and had “ok” service, we were still asked if we wanted to pay a tip of £9.75 before we paid for the meal! The friendliest staff was the lady who served our food and the gentleman who cleared our table. I don’t recommend this restaurant unless nothing else is open.

Hot and sour soup was gorgeous but the rest was a huge greasy letdown! The table next to us left eating next to nothing ! Wouldn't return. Popped in for tea after shopping in Manchester. Although they were busy they did manage to find us a table. The service was very chaotic & the food was served in stages and took a while to arrive. It was lukewarm & I can say I’ve had far better, quite pricey too. The bar area of the restaurant was being used as a store room for unused chairs, hoover and generally very untidy & off putting. We certainly won’t be rushing back.

The food is lovely when it eventually arrives. Drinks didn’t arrive until we’d chased them. People seated after us got their food first, it appeared that wait staff actually avoided making eye contact. The young man who took our order ignored us for the rest of the evening. It didn’t seem like wait staff were assigned specific tables leading to chaos. Starters didn’t all come together, neither did the main courses. We took ages to pay and go as staff ignored us when we tried to get the bill.

Absouloutley brilliant, we had the banquet and the food kept coming it was excellent quality and extremely tasty very good value cant wait to return .

Me and my husband went for a meal after shopping. The service was very poor. I was given a very chipped plate and asked for it to be replaced...it was replaced with another chipped plate. The food was cold. The mixed dim sum starter was tasteless. We complained, but they didn't seem to care. We noticed Chinese people getting their food, which looked a better quality and was piping hot. We asked for the bill, which was slammed on the table! We were made to feel that it was our fault. Terrible service but the food is good. 90% of those serving are miserable. I know they are busy but not 15 minutes into service. The last 3 times I have been served incorrectly. The staff do not listen, and when you send something back you get the feeling it is your fault. Extremely popular with chinese community so you can tell the food has to be good. As the title says, the service here is the worst and it definitely is not busy enough to justify this. Absolutely none of the staff here smile at all and they are extremely reluctant to even talk to you, let alone serve you. One of us has accidentally spilled water and we have asked three times for tissues. But alas, we still are sat here with a puddle of water on our table and they have served the food around it. Whenever we have asked for anything we have had to ask 2-3 times. The food is served in intermittent periods, our roast duck was cold by the time that our rice came. We have just received the bill and it is indecipherable, but it is definitely overpriced for what we have received. To conclude, we will not be coming back.

I can understand why people could rate this place terrible and why they could rate it excellent. The truth is, it's somewhere inbetween.

Comemos aquí cada pocos meses más o menos, pero no he tenido tiempo de publicar una reseña, y la única razón por la que lo estoy haciendo ahora es porque he notado que ha tenido algunas críticas negativas últimamente, obviamente todas las personas tienen sus propios gustos, pero la comida aquí es excelente y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Algunos miembros del personal pueden estar un poco fríos, pero nunca te ignoran y la comida siempre sale rápidamente. De todos modos, creo que este es uno de los mejores restaurantes chinos en Manchester, y lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Conocí a nuestro Phil (mi hermano de Brighton) en Manchester el día de hoy (13, 9, 19) y después de una discusión decidimos que este seguía siendo el mejor lugar en Chinatown para un buen dim sum. Pedimos Fun Cheung de gambas, Har Gow, Sui Mai, Torta de nabo, Chipirones al vapor en salsa de curry, Bola de masa de ternera con jengibre y cebolleta y croqueta de carne mixta. Uno de los chicos que trabajaban en Yang Sing cuando Gerry Yeung dirigía el comedor parece estar a cargo aquí. Después de la comida, todavía era de la opinión de que no hay un lugar mejor en Chinatown para una buena relación calidad-precio. Hay algunos lugares más en el mercado, pero lo que gana en un ambiente refinado lo pierde en autenticidad y sabor.

Apart from the fact that the dim sum menu seems to be available until well after six in the evening this visit was a disappointment after previous visits. Dishes which had been excellent on previous visits seemed ordinary by comparison. The food no longer stood out and I am likely to go elsewhere in future.

We had dinner here a little earlier this evening, 26th of May, the play gives the impression of being a bit chaotic, we ordered some green tea, the waiter said, it’s Chinese tea, my friend asked but is it green tea? He said green, yellow it’s all the same to me, my friend said, well it’s usually green or jasmine tea, he said, ah, it’s jasmine, so we had a pot, I ordered the Peking hot sweet & sour soup to start, this arrived in minutes and was very tasty, for my main I had pork with pickled ginger and pineapple, now this was very very nice, I friend ordered a large bowl of bean curd and noodle soup, I tried a bit but found it a bit tasteless, but the prices were very reasonable, all this came to £24.10, the restaurant can be found on Faulkner St, I would definitely go back the next time I’m in Manchester.

Supposed to go to the Grill on New York St but it was closed due to a bomb scare in Piccadilly Gardens, so we strolled down to China Town and found this place, the food and service was very good and reasonably priced, never seen my daughter eat so much, my wife had a good go as well, we will be going back.

I thought the food was very good- especially the crispy chow mein (there was a lot of duck, seafood and vegetables)! The three treasures dish was a generous portion size with fresh tofu, aubergines and peppers. Overall, I thought the meal was lovely but I would not recommend the pork cheung fan. It was cold and also it was very thick and rough rather than smooth, thin and glossy as cheung fan should be. Also, there was barely any pork inside the cheung fan! Overall, the food at Mei Dim is authentic and dim sum is 20% off 12-5pm- I would definitely visit again. To improve, I would have liked to see a bill rather than just being told- I had to ensure the bill was calculated correctly and had to check what everything cost at the end.

We tried this restaurant for the first time last week. Really welcoming waitress suggested dishes based on what we were ordering. Huge range of dim sum of excellent quality. Very attentive to our needs. Has become our favourite Chinese restaurant in Manchester now. Very reasonable price too.

I am eating out in Chinatown (Manchester) more & more, and I must say that this is one of my favourite places so far. It was not only that the food was delicious, but we very much appreciated the personable & friendly approach while being served. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience, I arrived at 10pm with a friend on a Saturday night and got turned away by the lady at the counter because she said the kitchen was closed. It clearly states that the restaurant is OPEN UNTIL 12AM. As we were walking up the stairs, a group of three entered the restaurant and spoke to the same lady. She immediately seated them! I was so shocked and angry, I turned back and spoke to her about it. She looked extremely put off but offered us a table, which we of course declined and left. DO NOT GO!
