Just had a delicious lunch here with the best bowl of soup I think I've ever had. I can't recommend this place highly enough... Friendly welcome, quirky surroundings and all home made food, the bread included. Worth a visit to the town for the food alone! Thanks for having us... If we're in the area again, we'll be back!!!

First class late lunch at Maxwells. Smoked haddock and tomato chowder was superb with a melt in the mouth cheese scone. Friendly welcome, lovely surroundings and great (jazz) music. Lovely cakes and biscuits on offer (we took blackcurrant and almond cookies home).

Visiting friends in Gavington so took a walk into Duns. Last min recommendation and really glad I tried here. Made to feel very welcome from walking into the establishment. Had the carrot and coriander soup and half sandwich to which both were spectacular! Very fresh and tasty. If I’m in the area again I’ll be sure to eat here again.

An absolutely fabulous find, all home made food and cakes, locally roasted coffee and the service was second to none. What a lovely little place. Worth a trip to Duns on its own!

Last Tuesday on a very poor weather day, we found this fantastic little cafe in Duns. We were in the little side room of the main eating area, nicely decorated with antique niks naks a little like the good sitting room for when the vicar came to visit in days gone by. Our server was excellent, friendly and remembered our order by memory, no pad and pen involved. All three of us had the soup and sandwich combo, two different sops and all sandwiches were different, plus 3 different drinks to go along with our lunch. This was impressive as was the food when delivered, homemade breads were also worth a mention. We had no room for a goody or sweet but as it was so unwelcoming outside we did manage a trio of Hot Chocolates. Not a common order even for a Scottish summer!!! Very reasonably priced as well, Duns you have a establishment to be so proud of. Certainly a must visit when we return to the Border country soon.

Visited for brunch with friends and were very impressed. Decor and general vibes really lovely and relaxed with some interesting furniture and lovely artwork. Simple menu but food and drinks both excellent. Baker eggs and sourdough was delicious! Service from Ryan was fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend if in Duns!

The menu is succinct but the food is excellent. Soup and half sandwich very good - quality of bread and combinations of filling (baked ham, gherkins etc.) The portion sizes generous without any flim flam. Filter coffee with free refills - I don’t mind mind that they only serve filter coffee because it’s rich and strong and better than a half average cappuccino/latte. Lovely atmosphere, the decor accented with vintage cutlery and crockery. Service was very smooth and friendly in spite of the cafe being one waiter down that day. After a long walk around Duns castle we stumbled upon Maxwells and were really impressed - the owners were so welcoming and even made a fuss of our dog. Definitely recommend and we will be back.

First time in Maxwell's, great food, service and very reasonable priced. Met a friend, we had drinks to start with and were there long enough to enjoy the soup/sandwich combo and finished it off with another coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful, will definitely be back and recommend to friends

Thank you Maxwell’s for a fabulous Gluten Free lunch today. All home made. The yummy homemade jam and almond tart found its way onto my plate at the end. I’ve recommend you on GF Scotland. Thank you for looking after us so well.

Maxwell's is a gem. The lunches are delicious with fine fresh local produce and, oh my, the bistro evenings are a taste sensation. If critics went out to it they'd be sure to give it a Bib Gourmand. But don't tell everyone we want to be able to get seats...

A favourite spot in Duns, the food is always delectable, with great attention to detail in presentation and service. The ambiance is refined and warm, with antique furniture and gentle jazz music playing. The monthly tapas nights are well worth attending as the team take time to create and serve beautiful small plates with quality ingredients - sometimes sourced from their recent travels!

4 of us had lunch at Maxwell and were invited to sit in the back room as we had our dog with us. The menu had some items not often found i.e sardines on toast which two friends had and both said were delicious. The sandwich’s and soup was also excellent as were the cakes we had as a dessert. The two staff that looked after us were both very friendly and very efficient. It was a fair distant to travel for us otherwise we would be frequent customers.

What a find. A warm welcome on a cold day. We had a cafetiere of the lovelist coffee and a jug of the most divine hot chocolate. we ordered sourdough sandwiches, dh had cheese and chutney and i had the egg, bacon and chives, they were the most delicious and freshest sandwiches i have had in many years, the sourdough was perfect and the fillings were plentiful. If we are ever in the lovely town of Duns we will be heading straight for Maxwells.

Just moved to Duns and many people told me about the taps night. We went for the first time last month. We had a ball. The food is outrageously good, and the staff are a joy. Of course, we did not drink - much! opps. It was mainly locals, so the atmosphere was like being out with friends, both staff and customers. We loved it! This never happened in Edinburgh. We have booked again for this Friday; it will be a regular thing.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

We were staying next door at the Crown Inn to attend a wedding in the area however commencement of their lunch service was leaving us tight for time so we popped in here instead in the knowledge we’d get a decent snack. The stairs may be a challenge for the less able however it’s worth the effort as the produce served is very good. We both ordered quiche which was served with salad, coleslaw, crisps and a Balsamic dressing (£6.50). I’m not usually too keen on Balsamic however I used some from the small pot provided separately and it turned out to be fine. The quiche itself was very good. We had coffee (£3) and tea (£2.80) which were very good too but since we were a bit pushed for time we had tray bakes as takeaway - Millionaire Shortbread for my wife and a slice of Aero Mint for myself. Both priced at £3.50 they went down well with a coffee the following day when we were back home! Service on this occasion by the two young females serving was pleasant and efficient. Overall cost for lunch was a reasonable £25.80.

My husband and I stopped by here for lunch. The train ticket we had purchased had taken us to Tweedbank, but we quickly reboarded after realizing there were many more options to be had in Galashiels. Dave's was one of the places that popped up after a Google query. Despite having just made it past the lunch rush, the person at the counter was very cordial. We told he that we were celebrating our first anniversary/latermoon and gave us a baked treat and a recommendation for a nearby park whereby to enjoy it. I'd highly recommend Dave's if you are looking for a tasty yet affordable lunch spot.
