A very nice themed restaurant, friendly staff and good food also family friendly, will definitely go back to try the burgers

We visited as a group of 10 for the first time ever and will definitely be back. A great meal and excellent service an a really cute venue too. Everyone went home happy and with a full tummy. If you are thinking of coming for a visit don't hesitate.

Family lunch today - three generations for our granddaughter’s 11th Birthday. It was actually our first visit and we couldn’t believe we had never found this little hidden gem before. Fantastic experience from the moment we arrived. The place is small (it really is an old chapel) and it is therefore essential you book to ensure you get a table. Service was attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The portions are extremely generous - We had burgers, chicken, and ribs and everyone thought their food was good quality and well presented. The decor is amazing - and the music well suited to the diner. We will definitely be returning - Next time to try out the breakfast!

Since discovering Max's Diner about 18 months ago i have eaten there on several occasions and the quality of service and food has always been excellent. Visited recently with my wife and son, who was visiting us, for lunch and as per usual it was a great experience. We all had different burgers and they were all extremely yummy. The portions are generous too. If you enjoy good quality burgers/hot dogs and milk shakes Max's Diner is well worth a visit. However, make sure that you book a place in advance (as requested on their web site) to avoid disappointment.

I arrived at 12h30 . One table was occupied . They said they couldn’t serve me . Then said they could make pancakes and only pancakes. It was totally disappointing and I left without ordering anything . Shocking attitude and service

Great food but not the best service. Waitress constantly complained to us about having to make additional drinks we ordered, wouldn’t accept changes or slight alterations to dishes ordered, no dairy alternatives on milk (then moaned about previously buying oat milk and it got wasted and expensive! all of this complaining certainly spoiled the experience…. Sadly I wouldn’t return. She’s certainly in the wrong job and completely lacks customer service!

Don’t waste your time. Checked online, it said it’s open until 4pm. So took a walk there with our dogs and was told when we arrived that they were fully booked! This was at 1.30pm and there were tables empty and outside table free.

What a great find!! Wonderful food and service in a lovely environment. The chilli dog was the best my husband had eaten since leaving his native Canada. We can’t wait to go back

The staff at Max’s diner were able to cater for about 25 of us that arrived for a biker do one Saturday. Really friendly staff who went out of their way to try and accommodate the large group. Generous portion sizes, good variety of food on the menu. We were able to sit outside which was great as not too many tables in doors. Thank you and good luck with your business.

I have been to this place twice in 3 weeks. First time on my own, today with a friend. We ordered a burger and sat outside in the grassed area. I have a biggish appetite but I could not eat all the burger and my friend struggled to finish his because there was so much.

*read the whole thing* The food is good here, which being one of the only places in the area that serves this kind of breakfast it could be a real winner. Unfortunately I went to order 3 times over the past couple of weeks. They open late for a breakfast place anyway (would recommend they open earlier). 1st time we went to order at 10am (their opening time) and the lady called us at 11am saying she was in late due to traffic works. 2nd time managed to order no issues and food was good. 3rd time was on Sunday, when I called through an order after church. Again they stop serving breakfast at 12pm which is strange considering they open at 10am, anyway it was 11.50am, I nicely asked if they wouldn’t mind doing breakfast for us, I wanted 1 full English for my partner and pancakes for me. The lady said that they had no pancakes left, to which I replied no worries I will go elsewhere. Well I then receive a call back to say she had found some. At this point she said she found 2, which I assumed was two pancakes (not two portions), so proceeded with the order and went to collect 20 mins later. That’s when the issues began. I paid immediately (she hadn’t confirmed amount) but I just assumed was all ok. Then began to pass me food. I quickly realised there was a lot of food. As I questioned this she said yes 4 x full English and 2 x pancakes. Obviously this is what I had ordered. Well the response was unbelievable. The lady became very rude and aggressive towards me. I explained that there’s obviously been a mistake but she was furious. She went back inside, and came back out with another lady who continued to argue with me that I was lying and she had heard the order. Not sure what I would achieve over ordering breakfast, but clearly a misunderstanding. More shouting occurred inside, someone shouting fck off at the top of their voice. Anyway after 5 mins the lady agreed to refund me for 3 x full Englishs and I agreed in turn as a gesture to at least pay for the extra pancakes. The whole experience I have to say is so baffling and strange. They were so rude it’s unbelievable and just no need for the attitude on a pleasant Sunday. As I said we had simply just left church and hoping to grab a nice breakfast, I didn’t expect to be shouted out and excused of lying. Worse still I’m 7 months pregnant. Honestly such a shame, as I said the food is good but their business attitude and customer service just isn’t there. We won’t be coming back.

Nice little place. Visited several times now and food is always good. Today due to covid restrictions we ordered click and collect. A little misunderstanding with the menu that states Breakfast menu until 11:45 Lunch menu mentioned no time limits. We wanted to order a burger at 11:15 but lunch menu starts at 12:00 they accommodated our request and served with a smile.

I can’t get my head around these very negative reviews below, and seriously wonder how anyone could be so unkind! My birthday last year was during lockdown (May 19th) and I happened to mention it when placing our order over the phone: when we arrived to collect the meals, I was surprised & really happy to receive a complimentary strawberry milkshake (which was absolutely delicious) ........ I can’t help but wonder if all the Covid stop/start of life has affected the views below? Or maybe the lady mentioned was just having a bad day herself: we all have them!We have since been back (during the summer months for a breakfast, and the little seated area was busy, with clearly very happy customers & the staff were working like trojans to provide a good service at a very busy time! I have no hesitation in RECOMMENDing this little hidden gem, lovely people, great food & good value plus its setting is blissfully tranquil!

Our son took us there for an impromptu breakfast and boy, were we glad he did. I make pancakes for family breakfasts but these were the BEST I have ever tasted, light, fluffy and a good size. The bacon was lovely and crispy and you get a decent amount of maple syrup. My husband and son both had the English breakfast and these looked lovely....the most important thing to me on the plate is how the fried egg looks, there is nothing worse than that clear film over the yolk...and this didn't have it. PERFECT. Every element on the plate was piping hot.Service was welcoming, warm, fast, efficient and friendly.Had a good sanitizing station, the entrance is roped off and you cannot enter the restaurant without the owner/manager letting you in, so you feel safe regarding the covid situation we are all in at the moment.Looking forward to going there again very soon as well as we all want to try the burgers!!Thank you Max Diner, a gem.

Woman who owns it is extremely moody and makes you feel you’re a hindrance for being there! We all try to abide by covid rules but to moan at a child for standing to pull their chair in a bit is ridiculous and really set the tone for our meal.My mum ordered a coffee and food for all of us but was told she had to eat. She said she had already eaten and had special dietary requirements and there was nothing she could have but the lady still said she had to order food as she booked for 5. My mum asked to just have some toast and she said no it had to be a meal off the menu. Food is extremely average and massively over priced anyway. Awful customer service will not be returning.

Me and my family ate here this morning and were very disappointed by our experience. Firstly we were greeted by the rudest woman who couldn’t have been any less accommodating of our needs. I ordered 2 pancakes and a breakfast for my children and my adult daughter ordered a full English. I however didn’t want to eat as I’m on a strict diet and just wanted to treat my children this half term. I was told I HAD to eat as I had booked for 2 adults and that meant I couldn’t just have a drink, I explained my situation and asked for just toast if I had to eat and that wasn’t allowed. £7 I had to spend on pancakes that I nibbled at! It was awful value for money as milkshakes were tiny for an extortionate £4 and the pancakes were definitely shop brought. It was such a shame as we used to love this place and now definitely will not be returning.

Staff are extremely rude. We had to call and cancel our booking and the lady we spoke to had been aggressive and rude. We would plan to return another day but judging from the phone call and the many poor reviews we will not be going. There is no cancellation policy on their website or when we called to book and so there’s no need to get shirty when at least we had a decently to cancel as we understand they may wish to fill the space. We were left feeling very intimidated and extremely shocked with this level of service!

Was really excited to eat at Max's diner to be greeted by the rudest woman ever! Who refused to let us share a meal, wouldn't let me bring my pram in, and told me if I wasn't eating I had to get out, we said not to worry and we will go elsewhere, to then be told how they turned people away for this. Also spoken to like children about the track and trace app. I don't expect to go to a diner where I will be paying to be spoken to so rudely. Never will I return! Was totally gutted, but the blonde lady needs to go!

As we were passing through this area we decided to pop-in for breakfast. What a mistake this was! There were five of us and so we stopped at Max’s Diner after seeing it on the internet. The inside looked very impressive even though it was very tiny and closed off. As soon as we got to the front this woman started barking at us. ‘Have you pre-booked’? we replied no as we did not realise we had to book on a weekday and besides there were plenty of spaces available with outside sitting areas. Also this place is off the beaten track. As there were six to seven benches outside with only two occupied and one had just I guy sitting at a six seater bench. She said that we will have to wait until he is finished. We then asked if we could use the toilet while we were waiting as we had travelled from London to that again very aggressively she replied only if you are eating breakfast.Two of us decided to order full English and the rest of us asked for something simpler like bean-on-toast. Again her reply was very abrupt there is just two of us and we can’t make anything accept for five or six option on the menu. Then we said how about drinks for three of us to that she replied you will have to take your drinks outside the premises opposite on the green even though we were purchasing from her. She then barked those who ordered drinks must go and wait over on the green right now even before our drinks had arrived. We could not tolerate here rudeness any longer so we cancelled our order and left. Clearly this woman needs to learn manners and go on some kind of customer relation course. Please, please, please do not visit this place unless you want to ruin your day. We certainly will never go back there. She was even bad mouthing us as we were leaving to the other customers. In this climate of covid-19 you would think business would be looking to promote their business.

Very authentic, had heard lots of things some positives and some negatives. Menu has a variety for breakfast and lunch no issues with the food. Unfortunately where the positives end as could be an absolute little gem if was run/ had members of staff with passion and who actually wanted to be there.A blonde lady not particularly very welcoming, huffing and puffing, everything seemed to much effort. Unfortunately would put me off visiting again as just didn't enjoy the overall experience from the customer service. Also opening hours of 10AM on a weekend surely doesn't make good business sense as 8AM would probably attract more cliential to the diner.

Had a bad experience here. We were not allowed to sit inside or outside unless we ordered a full meal - fries + drink or pancakes + drink was not enough. We ended up with a takeaway coffee sitting on a nearby bench off premises. Very poor customer relations. Won't be visiting again.

Our first outing since lock down. 12 of us all enjoyed a good range of the breakfasts on offer. Julie and her helpers served us quickly and with humour. We will definitely go again.

Having been previously some time ago and really enjoyed it. When we saw Max's was open for drive through take away we had to try it. So easy call your order through, it is literally delivered 2 your car. Food was fabulous, some of the best burgers we have had. A real hit with the whole family. Will def be back

Last came here a couple of years ago with friends. 10 of us spent a lot of money but were made to feel very unwelcome by the owner who huffed and puffed at everything. Decided to give it another go in lockdown to support a local business. Wish I hadn’t bothered! How this place stays in business with such poor customer service is beyond me - must be due to the over priced food and workers who use it for convenience during the working week on the industrial estate it is on. Such a shame as I won’t be going back or recommending it. I’ll take my business to kaya in Horsham park who couldn’t be more welcoming.

We were staying in the area for the weekend, and did a little research on possible places to have breakfast on Saturday morning. This place is a little hidden off the main road, and not where you would expect to find a place for breakfast, but the sat nav took us straight there. What an unusual and pleasant little gem. Very small so you should trust it's website when they recommend you book a table, I think I counted 6-7 tables. We were lucky enough that a couple of people were just leaving when we arrived. Had a traditional English fry up, and the American breakfast, complete with a tiny little USA flag. Together with some very delicious Caramel Latte's. The prices weren't cheap by any means, but we came more for the experience of trying somewhere new & unusual. Elvis and the likes playing in the background, and very nice service from the staff who were clearly very busy. Would recommend a trip here for something a little different.

The lady owner is rude and rather horrid, no customer service skills whatsoever. It’s like your putting her out by being there I’d say she’s most unfriendly! She makes comments that are rude and seems like a very arrogant women......what a shame she owns and runs such a quirky little place!This was our second visit, she was horrible the first time a year or so ago and I swore to never return but convinced myself she must be having an off day but definitely not she’s just a horrible women and that’s that.Most uncomfortable lunch for the second time and I won’t make the same mistake again she can be the nasty lady all she likes but it’s no way to attract customers or make them wish to return! Good luck to anyone that goes there.

Popped in for brunch before flying out of Gatwick airport. I had a chilli dog and my partner had a cheese burger. Both dishes were tasty and good value for money. The service was really friendly and quick. The decor is great and there is a cool american style diner vibe. I would highly recommend just make sure you are really hungry as the portions are massive.

It's the first time my family had visited this diner. It is a very friendly place, great service and the food was amazing. We have breakfast out alot and we found this great value for money. We will certainly be back.

Visited today with my dad who had been to breakfast there before and highly rated it so thought we would try lunch, I am coeliac so extremely gluten intolerant and when I called to book the table (which I recommend doing if you want to go) made sure everything was okay for me to eat there, extremely helpful and friendly over the phone which gave me a lot of confidence as other places haven’t been so trust worthy. Was welcomed by big smiles and seated, the lovely lady stood by and went through everything I could and couldn’t have in great detail and made me feel feel welcome and not a burden on there business as making my food is more effort for them and other places make me feel horrible about it... not here! Ordered food and adapted what I could and couldn’t have always being so lovely!Milkshakes are out of this world and the food oh my god it’s outstanding! So much flavour and portion sizes are incredible! It’s a hidden gem and I can not wait to take my other friends and family there as I’ve now found my new favourite place to eat! The price was so reasonable and honestly not to be charged extra for the hassle of gluten free made me so appreciative! Avoid this place how it’s still open i don’t know food ok although expensive for what it is, but the service well absolutely awful, how it’ still has customers I don’t know, I’m guessing mainly new customers who see it on Facebook or Instagram like we did,l they can’t have many people returning, worst experience ever, felt like walking out and now thinking about It wish I had, lady who served us made us feel very unwelcome from the start everything seemed to much bother plenty of huffing and rolling of the eyes everything we asked for seems like to much trouble will not be going back and would recommend you go to the cabin up the road who are so friendly and food amazing

Food was ok, but we were forced to move in the middle of our meal to a different table, despite booking. Owner miserable. Unfortunately this business may have shot itself in the foot with its tacky objectification of a woman in a recent photo shoot/advertising campaign. Disappointing in 2019, nearly 2020, especially when the business employs so many young women. Great concept, poorly executed and unethical. Not outstanding enough for us all to return.

We visited for lunch and we ordered burgers with chips and onion rings. They were heavenly! Everything was perfectly cooked and very fresh! Julie, the owner, was very pleasant and the service was friendly. We intend to go back again very soon.

My wife and I decided at the last minute to pop in for lunch. The diner was busy but we were greeted with a friendly waitress ( maybe she is the owner). What an amazing start to a Sunday morning. We sat outside the diner in the sunshine enjoying the most delicious full English breakfast. It arrived promptly, was piping hot, and served with a smile.

Wanted to try something different and this was it. First impressions; didn't even know the place was there, second impressions WOW!, third impressions definitely coming back. Ordered from the specials board and was immensely impressed with the amount of food, taste was superb. OK maybe you have to wait a while for your food but it's definitely worth the wait. My coffee milkshake was to die for and tipped quite over the top because of the whole experience. Loved, loved, loved it!!!

I've walked up from Sussex Campervans to this hidden gem of an American diner on the Graylands Estate. Both times the lady was great. She single-handedly cooked our burgers and fries and hotdogs at lightning speed, and was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the music and the American memorabilia.

Visited the Diner again on my motorcycle with my friend. Plenty of place to park on solid ground. Decor inside is great. Food is quality. Price is right. Will visit many more times. And I have visited again.

The customer service was terrible, considering you have to make a special effort to get there in the first place you would expect a warm welcome, not what was receive at all, the manager was clearly having a bad day, but that shouldn't be reflected onto the customers, attitude was rude, dismissive, arrogant.

This diner is a joke.. where do I start... after waiting to be seated we were handed menus and left for over 30 mins before anyone came over and took our order, they hadn’t even asked us if we wanted a drink. We were so close to getting up and walking out! I wish we had of now!! We noticed that people who had arrived quite a while after us and already had their orders taken and even had their breakfasts before anyone even bothered to take our order. They didn’t even acknowledge the fact or apologise that we had been waiting so long. After we had ordered the food came out fairly quick.. I guess it doesn’t take that long to reheat sausages and undercook an egg... just terrible poor quality food. They claimed they were serving Lincolnshire sausages... well they were not... I don’t even think there was any meat even in them! , very very poor quality... The tomato ketchup had sooo much vinegar added to it .. it was disgusting.. I mean realistcally how much money are you saving adding vinegar to the ketchup!! The breakfasts were expensive too for what they were serving, £7.95 to £10,95 for a breakfast.. that would be fine if it was a good breakfast but it was the worst breakfast ever!! I will definitely not go here again... overall it was a terrible experience ... terrible food & terrible service!!

First time I have been here and it really is a hidden gem that so many people living in the area do not know about. The American breakfast with pancakes and veggie sausages was fantastic and the decor and music really set the scene. Absolutely no complaints about the food at all. Great banana milkshake as well. Kids would love it here. The only comment is that the lady serving could have been a bit more friendly and happy to be at work otherwise a great place and worth googling to find it. Only open from 11 to 4 and you have to book at weekends - the lunch menu looked good too and great for vegetarians like myself.

Loved this diner! It’s quite small but the decorations are really cool and the place has a nice vibe. We came here for breakfast and it was amazing. The portions were huge, and everything was delicious! The only thing I’d change is with the pancake and waffle dishes, I think it’d be nicer if the maple syrup came on the side rather than already in. I wouldn’t have put so much on myself personally and some bites felt a bit too sugary but that’s just personal preference.

This diner is appalling. Appalling service from a manager who has a face like a wet weekend and treats you like a massive inconvenience whenever you ask for something. I reviewed them on Facebook after a terrible visit and she sent me an aggressive and threatening message on Facebook. Horrible management. Is a shame as could be a great place, just needs a manager who has actual customer service or just general people skills!

I took my young daughters to Max’s for breakfast, having stumbled across them on the web. It’s a forty minute drive from where we live, so it was a pretty risky play but turned out to be totally worth it.

This place has the worst customer service. Our waitress was the most rude and unfriendly woman . I would not recommend this place to anyone. Our food came out cold coffees cold . We as a party off 6 would not go there again .......

Took my Brother-in-Law, who had just had a foot operation and had a 'boot' on. We booked for breakfast - and what a treat. All freshly cooked, excellently presented and delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient. We will return - without the boot!

We had a family member staying with us from Birmingham this weekend and thought this would be a good spot to indulge in a big breakfast before the guys went off to play golf. It's so close to home for us and we'd never been but were recommended to do so by a friend.o

We always call before we visit as we are a family of 8 and this place is always busy busy busy! And that's because it's awesome! Breakfasts are simply the best and it's a real treat to have staff that know their stuff and are quick and ready to get your drinks ready whilst your still food shopping off the menu! Best breakfast in out of town area ..... haven't made it yet for a burger but it's on our to do list!

After doing a long walk through the nearby hillside and woodside, for a bit of exercise, I stopped in here for a breakfast. I had a "large breakfast" (£7.50) and an Americano coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will recommend it. The restaurant is a unique themed American diner, and you sholud take some time to look at all the different items on display. Recommended.

Booked a table at Max's Diner. We wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Thought we would try this for the first time and after driving into the ground you got a sense that it was going to be something different. Guinea Fowl and Pheasants running around, then into a quaint industrial units area and then across this little convert church like building (old chicken coop I imagine). That was the diner. After hearing some decent reviews online and via friends for the diner, we took a visit to see what all the fuss was about. It was a quiet Sunday am, plenty of tables inside and out, but the time it took to serve us was painfully slow, then when we had breakfast it was far from meeting my early expectations. Will give it another go to see if it was just a one off bad day, but the experience was disappointing and did not come away from the diner overly impressed.

My partner and I visited for lunch, i had the special bbq ribs which were delcicous and perfectly cooked and he had the New Yorker burger which he said was the best burger he had had. Service and atmosphere were outstanding. We will definately be returning and are looking forward to trying the breakfasts!

bright, cheerful and very clean. We had jumbo hot dogs with fried onion and served with fries and onion rings. More like sausages than genuine hot dogs but tasty. Strawberry milkshake and coke came to just under £20. We didn't have dessert but they looked delicious and the burgers come to suit anyone. children under 12 eat for £4:50. Only about 24 seats so book ahead if you can. There is outside seating too. The only thing missing that is always in an American diner is the always brewing free refill coffee pot. Closes at 4 pm.

Came here for lunch today and was very impressed! The food tasted fantastic, the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend Max's Diner to everyone - we'll certainly be back!

Treated the family to lunch here today and it was brilliant! The food was gorgeous and very generous portions too!

I just had brunch with a friend, she had waffles and pancakes and I had a regular English breakfast. Both breakfasts were perfectly cooked, the plates were hot so our breakfasts stayed hot, the milkshakes were scrummy and the coffee was strong and hot.

I brought my children here yesterday for an Easter Holiday's treat.

I have visited this place twice in recent weeks with a friend. It’s a very tucked away little place and quite a small building. it’s a very well kept and well decorated place. On our first visit we had the breakfasts which were great. Couldn’t fault the visit at all.

Without a reservation we were lucky to get in for Sunday breakfast. Owner obviously doing something right as such a demand and telephone didn't stop ringing . Breakfast was enormous and a pot of tea latest ages ! Worth a visit for sure as quirky , especially with children. Will eat again for sure !
