Maud's in Coleraine

This Mauds has always been somewhere I'd avoid, but I was in a rush and it was the closest cafe. Thinking "how badly can they mess a crepé up?", I gave it another shot. Expecting something fresh (as they used to serve here), I was horrified to see the disinterested staff member shove a pre-made crepé into a tiny air-fryer. After a lengthy wait (longer than it takes to make a fresh crepé), I was treated to a cold, hard cone of disappointment, remembering it cost £6 with each bite taken. No napkins or cutlery were provided, nor was it made clear where to get them. The layout of this place is terrible. Ice cream, crepes, churros, and some cold drinks seem to be served from the front, while hot drinks and sandwiches can be bought from a counter at the back. There's very few tables, and combined with the dirtiness and exclusive use of paper plates and plastic cutlery, you wonder why they don't operate purely as a takeaway. This "café" is an embarrassment to Mauds and customers visiting who may have been to other Cafe Mauds like those in Belfast will be bitterly disappointed. I can't stress this enough, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Please don't be tempted by its great location, walk to one of the many other great cafés in Portrush. Babushka, Follow Coast, Ocean Deli, My Pie and Ground are all amazing spots for brunch nearby. Milk Parlour and Morelli's are excellent for ice cream.

Don’t make the same mistake I did and enter the first open restaurant you see in Portrush. I mean this sincerely — I would have had a much better lunch experience if I had noticed the SPAR right next door and purchased a meal from there. Most of the items on the menu were not available, so I chose to order a toastee. When I received it, the meat was still quite cold on the inside. This was despite the fact that I did see the unfriendly server place it into an air fryer. It seemed like no one working wanted to be there and this was also shown in the cleanliness of the place. The only table available for me to eat at was dirty and sticky (see photo). I really do wish I had taken my money over to SPAR and purchased a sandwich there that I could have eaten by the beach rather than patronizing this place.

i was asked my order three times by three different people, one for my order, one to put in the amount on the card machine, and once to make my order, then once i got my order it was cold and there was no sauce nor bueno pieces on the crepe so disappointed.

Dreadful- cold tough crepes - asked if we were sitting in and said yes- not expecting to get paper plates, paper cups and wooden knife and fork which broke when trying to cut the tough crepes. Disposable goods not acceptable when sitting in and not good for environment. Not a pleasant experience- will not be back for crepes again.

I’m absolutely appalled that milk for your tea is charged at 20p extra! Since when did cafes differentiate !!!! Won’t be back here!

To the management, if you have an allergy sign on your ice cream counter, then please understand allergies and train your staff. Any other mauds I have been to happily open new ice cream for coeliacs to avoid cross contamination, your staff however say they are not allowed to. I can happily avoid your shop but for young children with coeliac disease who would not understand this is an absolute disgrace.

Terrible,rude and clueless staff. Throw your food down in front off you and give you the dirtiest look. Young girls who either don’t want to be there or just don’t like serving customers. SHAMBOLIC

Called in out of the rain, decided to try one of their special ice cream sundaes, loads of ice cream to choose from , and choice of so many toppings. Friendly polite staff Probably the best honeycomb ice cream I’ve had

My daughter has a medical diagnosis of coeliac. She was given ice cream containing biscuit having been twice reassured that it was gluten free. When we realised this was asked a different member of staff who confirmed that it did indeed contain gluten. There was no apology from the member of staff who served my daughter. Shocking ignorance and disregard of a medical condition

Staff only sprayed on table and only wiped off crumbs did not clean all off table also toilet could do with a good bleaching Needs someone to train staff in catering and how to keep place clean and tidy

A quick stop where several of us purchased an ice cream before getting back on the train. Nice ice creams, friendly and polite staff, busy and popular when we were there.

Not sure if I got them on an off day but the place was filthy and I immediately regretted my decision. The toilets looked like they’d not seen a cloth or mop in a year and the coffee was burnt and undrinkable. The prime location is clearly how they’re still open but please avoid. Portrush in general needs a coffee shop consultant to go in and sort the place out - still in the 1990s with their styles.

I've been toady different Mauds (franchises) and until today I couldn't have faulted any. Mauds Portrush was absolutely disgusting. Toilets were absolutely filthy and swarming with flies, tables not cleaned properly. Service was dreadful, slow and staff were just clueless... Nice kids but no gumption at all. I know they're kids but train them properly! Crepes were hard and inedible, brownies were the skinniest I've ever seen. I'd definitely avoid, only that Morrellis had no seating and our toddlers wanted ice-cream we would've avoided.

On visiting Portrush we fancied a coffee and some ice cream for the kids and seeing as mauds is well known and past experience a firm favourite this was a huge mistake. When asking staff about some items we were told we are not doing those so ended up settling for a crepe which was mix of crispy and raw at same time and as for the coffee I’ve had better out of a hospital vending machine as a supposed Americano was clearly a filter. So in summary avoid at all costs as this is one of the filthiest poorly managed and staffed establishment I’ve encountered and where I didn’t complain the mere fact I told others who came in to turn round and leave and advised the ice cream van outside Barry’s would be better was enough. This review is by no means a reflection on the mauds brand as this is a franchise trading under their name and is not reflective in any of the other branches I’ve visited around the province

Visited yesterday and ordered 2 poor bear milkshakes and 2 crepes. The milkshakes was pretty much just milk poured from the carton, absolutely no taste or flavour to them we just had to leave them sitting without drinking. The crepes were undercooked, and had asked for fresh strawberries but they were off and mushy. The table was dirty and rubbish on the floor, was absolutely filthy. Have visited many times before and had good experiences but will not be back after yesterdays visit, very disappointing.

This place is filthy,floors dirty and tables not cleaned after customers leave especially tables at the front near doors. Would need to close for a deep clean and employ staff and properly train them in keeping things hygienic. Ice cream may be good but the filth of the place would put me of.

Called in to get a large tub for dinner, ended up waiting over 10 minutes as about 6 staff behind counter and 1 serving!! Then to top it all my large tub consisted of a part filled tub, not pushed tight as other mauds do and no lids! Total ripoff ☹☹

Despite the many ice-cream options, I went for a coffee. Service was very prompt and the coffee was lovely. Served with a smile and the staff were very friendly. A very relaxing atmosphere and great choices!

Mauds knocks the competition out of the park. Best ice cream for miles no other comes close in terms of flavour and texture.

This place was great - free tea refill, great bagels, ice cream was the best in Portrush. If in Portrush, well worth a visit and I would return!

Both sit in and take away this is THE place in Portrush for ice cream. However the staff are all young and the service is very variable as are the portion sizes which vary from meagre to fair depending on the server.
