Mattoni Italian Food in Peterborough

I was more than disappointed with the food here. I had the Sunday roast and it was the worst I’ve ever had. The beef was so tough I couldn’t cut it, it was all curled around the edges too. The chef offered to replace it but I declined. The vegetables didn’t seem fresh and I guessed they had been cooked much earlier that day and reheated. The cauliflower was swimming in a very watery cheese kinda sauce. My Partners pizza was like a soup it was so soggy. The starters of ravioli and garlic bread however was good. The restaurant itself is lovely and the Staff friendly but I certainly won’t be In a hurry to go back and I certainly wouldn’t recommend the roast dinner. What a complete waste of money and night out.

Really disappointing and left infuriated as even we had booked online for 2pm on Sunday, we were not served, as on arrival, the waiter told us that there was a Christening party held and the restaurant was closed. When I said we have a booking, she kept saying that it says on all the social media that they are closed that afternoon. Well, I do not follow them, we just booked through the website that was running as normal. I was waiting there at the counter for my husband who was parking and the front person kept saying that it's closed. I said I need to clarify because we do have a booking made so clearly something went wrong. When my husband came, she said "well again it says everywhere on social media we are closed". I understand the glitch, but the way we were treated was below any standard and actually it was the restaurant that was at fault, but no liability taken. Shocking! Customer service and marketing at the lowest level possible.

I have heard good things about this restaurant but have never been before because it is on the opposite side of the town to us. But we had a lunchtime reunion with old friends who live in that direction so it seemed the perfect opportunity to see for myself. We all chose the chicken with mushrooms in white sauce, and sauté potatoes. It was not good. The potatoes were dry inside and greasy outside , more like deep fried than sauté. The chicken was even worse. It was like the pieces of cooked chicken that supermarkets sell for sandwiches, reheated so it was tough and weirdly tasting. The sauce was ok, but not good enough to hide the taste of the chicken. It was rather embarrassing to have taken our friends out to such a low standard of cuisine. We will not be returning.

10 of us booked an early table for birthday celebration. Food very disappointing, more quantity over quality and incredibly bland. We had to ask for parmesan, pepper and olive oil, service was slightly lacking. I wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t bother going again.

Family meal to celebrate my husbands Birthday. My daughter dropped off balloons and a cake prior to our arrival Our waitress was outstanding , service was excellent, food amazing . We had asked for the cake to be brought out after the mains, this arrived along with plates cake forks etc with no prompting . A really lovely afternoon made special by wonderful food & staff staff

8 of us went for dinner on a Friday night. Drinks and food were great. Recommend garlic prawns and cannelloni!;-). Service was timely and friendly. We had plenty of beer (good choice) and wine. Overall bill ended up around £80 per couple. Not too bad for a weekend night out

We held a Charity Pasta & Pizza Supper here last week for charity and it was great. The staff are ultra organised and very efficient. The food and service was very good and there was a great atmosphere in the room. We had a singer (Simon Lee) who entertained us during the evening which attributed to the jolly atmosphere. Vic and his team do an amazing job here at Mattoni Eye and I highly recommend this restaurant for a private event as well as dining out there.

Booked for 7:30 not seated til 7:50 First was told setting table then was told a little later waiting for people to leave. Massive wait for food when we asked how long was told you can see we are busy. Manager was rude and was waving his arms in one of our faces when we asked to see him about the rude staff. He also told us we should have pre-ordered but when booked online and then called to add people no mention of pre booking was made. Food was brilliant. Service was extremely lacking. Our server Gabby was amazing and can not fault her she was fantastic. The rest of them need customer service training. Wouldn’t return unfortunately as food was good. But service is important to me as well as good food.

Went for a birthday meal. Food was pre ordered and came out promptly. The pizza was delicious and generously topped! Staff were really attentive and friendly. It has a nice outside area too.

Came across this restaurant by chance whilst staying down the road at the Travelodge. From the outside it doesn’t look much and we originally thought it was closed! However once inside it was very busy but we managed to get a table. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious, with a great wine menu too. You will definitely not go hungry as the portion sizes are big! What I also liked about the restaurant was when we asked for the bill our waiter said there was a 10% service charge already added (clearly stated on the bill) and were we happy to pay it. I cannot remember the last time I was actually asked if I was happy to pay a service charge, and that was a nice touch. It’s a little gem of a place and if I lived nearby I would definitely make it one of my go to places to eat.

We stopped here purely by chance and so glad we did. The staff were very friendly and helpful and managed to fit us in on a busy Saturday night. Couldn't fault the service and the food was absolutely fantastic - one of the best Italian restaurants we have been to. If you haven't been I'd recommend it - we will definitely be going back.

Frequented restaurant at Hampton a number of time and never disappointed. Visited the Eye resturant Saturday evening which equally impressed. Great staff, great service. Fabulous food and atmosphere....and can recommend the English Champers 👌. We live in Eye now so will be a regular watering hole on our evening dog walks on a summers evening xx

Went here for my wife’s birthday. We had a lovely meal. Food was fresh and full of flavour. My wife had to bring the remainder of her pizza home!! Staff were really lovely. Couldn’t do enough for you. Will be back for sure!

As always was a lovely visit with my family. After talking highly of them they was all so pleased with the lovely food we had. Lots of compliments from us for the wonderful roast dinner! Super atmosphere and super welcoming and attentive staff members too! Would recommend it to all.

What a great surprise. To find this quality Italian restaurant in a village off the A47 is unbelievable. My prawn pasta was as good as anywhere I've been in Italy. Simple as that. You must go.

A large number of the family attended for a celebration and we were certainly not disappointed. The food, staff and customer service was simply fantastic! We visit the restaurant on a regular basis and the team never disappoint. Highly recommended!

I have been 3 times now, and have reserved a review until I could get a proper feel for the place. In my opinion the best way to put it was average. I was expecting amazing things and each time returning thinking it must have been an off day last time, but no.. same quality each time and it seems average, limited menu and quite bland food? The waiting staff were very good I must say and very attentive. Atmosphere and decoration was great. The food was okay, nothing special at all, edible is a good way to describe it, same quality I would expect from a generic chain restaurant. Slight over prices for what you get in my opinion. Probably won’t return, as there are quite a few other places in the area which provide better, more unique food for the same or lower prices.

Just had a family meal here and all I can say is totally tasteless, the lasagne may just as well been a slab of melted bland cheese

We held a reunion of five of us here and I must say the staff were very attentive and polite. All had different dishes and they were all cooked to a good standard. We all enjoyed the ambience and will definitely return in the future.

Lovely little set up Mattoni has using there gazebo on the car park but was well aired out, staff was amazing as always couldn’t ask for better service! Mattoni is always my first choice to dine out currently only outdoor eating chilly but the food more than made up for. Both my husband and I always choose fish/seafood and It was the best we have had at Mattoni the Chef has combined excellent flavours. Great friendly staff we will be back soon

After seeing the advertised pastries new to Mattoni, we was eager to try them! We visited for some lunch which was faultless as always, piping hot and full of flavour! Staff go above and beyond to ensure you have all you need. The pastries add such a lovely touch to Mattoni and was very delicious. Can’t wait to return soon!

Lovely family get together for Madison's 18th birthday.Good atmosphere and Staff were attentive.Food is good.Would give it 8 out of 10 and menu is varied to suit most.Masks had to be worn except when at the table.So we could not all move around to chat.But that is the way til this Covid is gone.We did a lot of shouting to each other so it was quite noisy...but had a laugh and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Facilitated all our requests for mum’s 70th - everything and more was delivered, from the table set up to the celiac diet and beyond. Every phone call patiently handled and reassurance given. Staff took the time to arrange and light the birthday cake. Service and food impressive and really enjoyed the special Moretti beers. Thank you all so much - everyone worked so hard

Visited here a few weeks ago, when I walked in I was a little surprised.......and then I felt a bit worried as the place was packed. My friend said she thought one or two tables had been removed but I can’t be sure, I just felt a little uncomfortable and it was also very warm in there. However we sat down and ordered. I have been to Mattoni’s a few times and I ordered the same thing that I did last time. When I started to eat it I remembered why I should have chose something different. It was the vegetable lasagne and again the vegetables were hard, not all of them but especially the carrots, I couldn’t eat them. It was also quite ‘juicy’ and the cheese was tasteless. We also ordered a garlic bread to share, this had no flavour whatsoever, I took some home for husband to try, he said straight away, oh even the dough is tasteless. My friends had no problems with their food although one ordered chilly one said no to chilly but they were served wrong way round by then one had added cheese and pepper to hers. My two friends ordered soft drinks which came in bottles, these were warm and we had to ask for ice. The menu for desserts has not changed in a few years, there is a amaretto cheesecake, this is the only thing I like but to be honest I’m all amaretto’d out and can’t face it anymore, please make some changes. If I do go back I will make sure I try something else from the main menu and avoid the garlic bread.

We ordered 2 pizzas and a pasta dish for takeaway as this was the first time weve tried delivery from Mattoni.Wow....wow....wow....not only was our order delivered promptly and hot !! But the pizzas were delicious ( and I'm fussy as I've stuck to the same pizza company but I'm now converted !!)Thank you Mattoni...what a touch having a great meal to go with a lovely weekend xx

Not recommending as a take-away...they took 5 mins to "make" my pizza and it was awful.I quickly realised it was just re-heated after someone who ordered it before,the edges were hard as a rock and very dry...The middle was soggy,every thing was spilling off the pizza,tone of soggy cheese...just gross.I ordered from them because I thought restaurants make better job at making food than take-aways but I see ,no chance...extremely dissappinted as I was very hungry.

We visit regularly and are always impressed with the friendly attentive service, quality of food, range of drinks and general atmo6.

I can’t recommend Mattoni enough to all, it is a hidden gem within Eye but such a credit to have! With beautiful Italian food and wonderful and friendly service. From sitting down we was waited on by wonderful staff and wasn’t long wait on food. We couldn’t fault our food, it was piping hot when we received it. Would highly recommend the Mozzerella Mattoni (starter) and if you have room all the desserts are wonderful! We even received a complimentary glass of champagne as it was our anniversary. :)

I have visited Mattoni in Eye many times with friends and family and have always been impressed with the food and service.The menu is varied and has vegetarian and vegan options as well as being reasonably priced. The cocktail menu is extensive and everything I have tried has been great.The service is really what sets this restaurant apart and why I return frequently. Staff are always happy to answer any questions about the menu to help you decide and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant also felt very safe – tables are spaced out well, surfaces were being cleaned down regularly and all members of staff were wearing masks. I would really recommend a visit if you haven’t been!

Table of four booked early doors meal 5.15 pm & good to see restaurant was busy / getting busier as we left. Very covid compliant & well staffed. Good service, food was delivered quickly. Good choices & food was lovely.

Thankfully we are local to Mattonis and love nothing more than having a family meal together. Fathers day was slightly different this year, whilst we wasn’t able to visit. We did purchase a special treat box. This was absolutely delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff are absolutely brilliant and through these challenging times have adapted well to customer needs. I have loved Mattoni’s restaurant ever since it’s first restaurant opened in Hampton.The food is always amazing however I had to share a review tonight as the meal I just had was just insane!! Due to caronavirus, this lovely restaurant is delivery or collection only at the moment so the menu has changed a bit to accommodate. We abosultely love their quality Pizzas but tonight we also tried the mattoni burger and loaded fries which turned up piping hot and absolutely mouth watering!! You could tell all the ingredients were so fresh and there was a lot of effort put into the burger including some yummy Salami! I haven’t had a burger this good in a long time! Thank you and Well done Mattoni for such a fantastic dinner! Top quality and worth every single penny! Would recommend you to everyone :)

We went here on a Friday night and it was very busy but despite this we got our great food and the young waitresses and waiters were very helpful. There just seemed to be no one "in charge" as the waitresses were giving tables the wrong food, happened to us twice, which they were very apologetic about and clearly wasn't their fault there was just no one organising them! Also the bar area is where people can stand and drink and be generally very very loud and it put a dampener on the evening as we couldn't here our conversations. I would return here as the food was superb but perhaps not on a Friday night !!

We organised a work social event at Mattoni's Eye. The team were polite and easy to book a large group with, very accommodating. For the visit service was outstanding and the food was amazing. The whole group praised what a great restaurant Mattoni's is. Thank you again for making the team feel so welcome. We look forward to visiting again.

Having visited a few times, this time was no different in that I wasn’t disappointed. The ambience, service and staff were second to none as usual, however I would like to see some changes to the menu. My favourite is spinach and ricotta cheese but I did not see anything on the menu....unless I missed it of course. I chose the vegetarian lasagne and have to say some of the vegetables needed a little more cooking. The other thing is the dessert menu, I have to have the amaretto cheesecake because I don’t like any of the other options, I wouldn’t chose ice cream because I can have that at home. I would like to see profiteroles and maybe another flavour of cheesecake.....please!

I live in Eye and I am so happy to have two great great restaurants on our doorstep! We just love great authentic Italian food at Mattonis, nothing is too much hassle here - staff are lovely and food tasty! Thank you for being part of our village.

We have been a few times and the food is always great. Service is a bit hit and miss, the waiting staff are lovely but service can be slow, particularly at busy times.The amaretto cheesecake is to die for.If going on a weekend, book in advance and expect quite a bit of noise.

Visited here many times and always had a lovely evening. I have not been on a Friday before and this was just a total different experience. The restaurant was very busy but not totally full. The things that were wrong:The service - some of our group had starters, these were brought out some 45 minutes after our arrival timeThe mains arrived 1 hour and 15 minutes after our arrival timeDrinks - I was not asked if I wanted a second drink but other members of our party wereParmesan - I was not asked if I wanted this although other members of our party wereDessert - I had pre ordered a dessert however I believe the person arranging our party did not pass this on, so was not the restaurants fault. Obviously desserts were available however I just did not want to risk another hour wait as by now it was 2 hours since we arrived. I had purposely not eaten all of my mains choice to leave room for the dessert. The food was OK, nothing special but the whole experience was a complete disappointment. I will give this restaurant another try but it won’t be on a Friday.

Nice peaceful evening in the Eye restaurant. Not too busy but staff was a little too laid back. For a starter and main only we were in there for nearly hour and half. We was in no rush but still ..... could of been a bit quicker with getting meals out

Visited Saturday evening there was a misunderstanding with the bookings but that was sorted straight away by the bar tender and Sarah one of our waitresses. Food was lovely especially the pizzas and so were the drinks! Christina and Sarah did an amazing job! Definitely coming back soon!

This is my 3rd visit, reluctantly. I was hoping that 9 months after the last time we went things would improve, sadly not. My fiance makes plain spaghetti pomodoro 10x better than the stuff I paid for tonight.

Have previously visited restaurant on Saturday evenings and enjoyed a good meal. Visited with 6 others on Sunday and it was awful. I had the Sunday lunch, the yorkshire pudding was hard and over cooked tasted like a frozen one. The potatoes appeared to have been warmed up. 2 pasta dishes were cold in the centre. 1 Pasta dish was undercooked and the fish did not taste right. The sauce on the veal appeared to have been watered down, not at all like previous standard. It all seemed as if we had warmed up or microwaved meals. Cancelled our next visit with friends Very poor.

An excellent meal - freshly cooked salmon and vegetables - a tasty, decent sized portion, well presented. Friendly efficient service.

Visited last night -for the first time. It was a family meal to celebrate our grand-daughter finishing her GCSE’s. Although very crowded(a good sign), the service was excellent, as was the food. The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. Considering the quality of the food and the service, the whole meal including wine, was very reasonable. All of us will definitely return and recommend the restaurant to others. Thank you.

I have visited this restaurant twice now and plan to visit again. I have eaten the Risotto Marinara, the Spaghetti Polpette and the Tiramisu. All were delicious. The restaurant has a very atmospheric continental style interior and its own convenient car park. One waitress in particular is remarkable. She is called Tatum and she gives everyone such a warm welcome and is just naturally very friendly. Tatum gives excellent service, really cares about her customers and is a credit to the establishment.

Have eaten here a few times now, food is amazing service exceptional and I cannot find fault with the place.

Took an hour and 10 mins for the mains to be served, the spaghetti Bol came out luke warm and it was so bland, I had to put salt on twice, by the time they brought the Parmesan over I had nearly finished.

We visited the Eye resturaunt which had been done up since our last visit and looked very nice inside and out. Sadly when we arrived we were greeted by an unpleasant smell like the floors had been cleaned with dirty water. Our meal arrived the garlic mushrooms had massive chunks of garlic in the cream sauce which was overpowering not at all like they usual are. My pasta wasn’t particularly hot just warm and the baked dish was burned on the top the bread served with the meal was dried and burnt not fresh. A very disappointing meal we shan’t be returning.

When we go to stay with Family, we always visit and have never been disappointed. We went early evening as a party of 6 adults and 2 children. The Menu is varied and everything we ordered was piping hot and tasty, Our little ones were well catered for and kept occupied with colouring. The staff can't do enough for you and really helpful if you have any questions about the menu. We can't wait for our next visit.
