The food was definitely average, I was expecting much more delight. The service was poor, no checking the table, no checking for drinks, servers next to impossible to flag down. It's a loud and busy environment and much more attention is needed to the customers. Overall not what it should be, actually disappointed

I have been to this restaurant many times but tonight I was very disappointed. Maybe I miss ordered but I found the Khizi parotta with chicken -bland, tasteless and very unsatisfying. I will not be ordering that again.

Authentic Indian cuisine rarely tastes this good outside of India, but can be found in Tauntons' station road . Don't be fooled by the exterior you will have a meal that you will not forget.

Best place to have the most authentic South Indian delicacies in Taunton with family and friends. I personally love their Masala Dosa, Palak Patta Chaat, Idli-Sambar, Meduvada-Sambar, Grandma's Chicken Curry. Good service and professional staff.

Elevated Indian cuisine with additional dishes influenced by neighbouring Asian cultures. We visited on a Monday evening and were surprised to see that most tables were occupied. We had good prompt service, and the waiter enlightened us as to the special dishes that are original to their menu. My meal abridged was thus: Poppadoms: light crisp, moreish, and obviously homemade as per the condiments Starter: Fried fish in East Asian spices; incredible depth of flavour. The fish was slightly overcooked but delicious nonetheless. Main: Pondicherry Lamb; a lively Franco-Tamil-esque dish, which I assume is made with a sambar spice blend, It was the best gravy I have had outside of London award winning restaurants (where I would have to pay three times the price). Absolutely outstanding curry dish, no frills, just waves of flavour and heat that hugs long after the last bite. A curry so good I didn't want to brush my teeth before bed and ruin the lingering flavours! Our meal for 2 with starters and 3 rounds of drinks and service came to £75ish which I think was damn good value considering the quality.

Went tonight 25-07-24 for the tasting menu. Oh my god. Loved every mouthful. It was nice to have something that is different. Something that feels authentic. Not your normal "curry house" Highly recommended

This is my 3rd time visiting the restaurant and have been here with my friends and family earlier. I am from Kerala and I can say they provide some of the best Kerala foods I have had in UK. Normally the Indian cuisine restaurant change the taste of the food to suite British customers but Mattancherry provides curries and biryani and other dishes how it's serverd in Kerala. The service is also very friendly and warm. I would recommend anyone wanting to try Indian cuisine to give it a try.

I recently visited Mattancherry Taunton, a restaurant that comfortably seats around 50 patrons. While parking is not immediately adjacent to the venue, a short walk of a few minutes is required. The restaurant also features a banquet hall upstairs, likely used to accommodate overflow crowds. The ambiance is very pleasant and clean. Our meal began with paneer tikka and chicken lollipop. As a vegetarian, I can vouch for the paneer tikka—it was quite good. My companions had similar praise for the chicken lollipop. One standout dish was the muscle dosa, which exceeded my expectations. It was served with sambar and chutney, though the chutney could have used a bit more salt. We also ordered kadai paneer and garlic naan. The naan was freshly made and delicious, while the kadai paneer, although a bit spicy for me, was deemed perfectly seasoned by my friend. One order of kadai paneer is ample for two people, and we complemented it with some plain rice for the leftovers. My friend also tried the Mattancherry fish curry and found it excellent. The service was prompt and friendly, with two waiters efficiently managing the kitchen and dining area. There is also a bar with a good selection of wines and a few branded beers. I opted for a salt lemon soda, which was refreshing and aided my appetite. For those in Taunton looking for quality Indian cuisine, I highly recommend Mattancherry. It is one of the few places where both South Indian and North Indian dishes are equally delightful. Overall, I would rate the food, ambiance, and service at 4.5 stars.

Last night, we had the pleasure of dining at Mattancherry Taunton for their Kerala Food Festival evening, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. Mattancherry is literally the best place in the south. The food is beyond amazing, traditional, flavoursome, perfectly priced. It's the best place you will eat!

The food is amazing, the staff are so friendly and helpful. We don’t get to go as often as we’d like due to finding childcare but when we do we are always wowed by the hospitality and array of flavours.

What a VIBE! The interior of this place is so quirky, you wouldn't think you are in Taunton. I loved the unique twist on traditional Indian food, and it was all totally delicious. The lemon chutney with the poppadoms was 👌 Only sidenote; don't order dessert. Portions are teenyyyyy, and not worth the price.

Frankly the best Indian takeaway I've ever had. Utterly delicious, I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. My little girls loved the dal tadka and lamb saag. Naan breads are also next level!

Anniversary. Big one. Vingt. Mattancherry. Superb curry. Professional, friendly staff. Chefs are as good as it gets. Starters were Bombay chaat and Onion, Kale and Spinach Pakora. Superb. My wife had Alleppey Mango Vegetable Curry with coconut rice, I had Kerala Chicken Biryani. Glass of a really good white wine, Sauvignon blanc. We were very happy.

Excellent experience. Had the Taster Meat Menu, far too much food for us to finish but was enjoyed with the wine matching which may have not helped! The music and hospitality throughout the evening was again excellent and without fault, truly recommend this as a destination to enjoy Indian food whether or not you have a spicy requirement. One of our top two Indian restaurants in Taunton. Delicious and freshly cooked tandoori chicken and Syrian beef curry. They also do amazing dosas which are great but too big for a starter unless you share, in my view. The lassi was delicious.

The food is just incredible. The masala dosa is easily the best I have had from anywhere in the UK. Hands down the best sambar and chutney to go with it. The Beef Dry Fry is another winner. It the right amount of crispy on the outside and succulent meat on the inside. After moving to Taunton from Brighton, this place has become my go to Kerala food place. Please also try their Erachi choru which is an alternative option if you are looking to tune one notch up from Biryani. Reasonable prices for the honest and authentic food and service. Gopi was super nice and very helpful and took us to show the upstairs and shared some great recommendations. Certainly coming back here (a lot) from now on. We had a really lovely meal here at the weekend. The staff we interacted with were all so polite and friendly, and seemed genuinely thrilled to have us there. The restaurant itself is really nicely decorated and has a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. I cannot eat gluten, and the member of staff who served us was very knowledgeable about each dish and what did and didn’t contain gluten. Additionally, the allergens in each dish are clearly listed against every option on the menu, so I felt 100% confident ordering something that I could safely eat, which was such a luxury. The pappadums were gorgeous and came with a lovely selection of dips. We shared the BDF to start, and it was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Our mains consisted of Alleppey Prawn Curry, Coconut Rice, Grandma’s Chicken Curry and Pulao Rice, all of which was delicious and cooked well. My husband also had a cheese and garlic naan which he really enjoyed, and although I couldn’t try any for myself, it looked and smelt incredible. This was our first visit to Mattancherry Taunton, but it definitely will not be our last!

Disappointed with this place after reading some decent reviews. Never felt relaxed as someone always pressing us to order from the moment we sat down. Food whilst flavoursome was paltry in terms of portions for what we were charged and what's happened to the big round poppadoms and four condiment choice? Mini poppadoms and three very small pots of non descript condiments was again disappointing. The staff were polite but not the dining experience hoped for.

This was our second visit to this restaurant and wont be the last. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food was fantastic. My friend, who loves Indian food, was very impressed by the Syrian Beef Curry. The Tandoori Salmon and Angamaly Pork are also delicious and highly recommended. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Mattancherry to anyone

I am really disappointed with the dining experience. Highly priced and low quantity. My friend ordered the kizhi paratha in which she was searching for beef. We really had a disappointing experience with them . We will not recommend this restaurant to any of our friends.

My recent visit to this restaurant left me dissatisfied on mutiple fronts. The high prices were accompanied by disappointingly small portions sizes making it feel like a less than adequate value for the money spent. To exacerbate matters, the waiting time was excessively long, testing my patience.

Worst experience ever. Foods served were said to be authentic Kerala which in fact lacked the Kerala taste. All foods were raw and lame in taste, was too oily. And way too expensive for the taste. Can’t even recommend anyone who wants taste the real taste of Kerala as everything is customised to low quality taste. Had to wait too long for the food to be served.
