We visited this restaurant on a sunny day to enjoy some wine with a beautiful view, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The atmosphere was delightful, and the overall experience was truly enjoyable. I would highly recommend it for a relaxing time with great scenery and wine.

September 2024 The star of this show is the view! Great experience if you're fortunate enough to get a table at the window. I had this experience with work colleagues and wanted to treat my family to the same experience, so booked a table for the following weekend. If you are seated towards the rear of the restaurant, you are treated to a mind boggling, over extensive, cluttered menu and average, standard quality Chinese/Asian style food when it arrives. When we arrived, there were free tables at the window, when I asked if we could be seated there, I was told they were reserved, even though I had made a reservation three days earlier. When another table became available a little later, I asked if we could sit there and was told no, because it was a table for four; there were three of us! The management seemed determined not to allow us to sit at the window! They had an opportunity to make an average experience really special, it was an easy fix and well within their power, but they chose not to. I did pay the 10% service that they conveniently added to my bill(!), because I thought that the serving staff were good and very attentive. This restaurant got the hospitality totally wrong, I won't be going back nor will I recommend it.

I made a last minute booking for a party of 7, a 91st Birthday celebration. We found disabled parking right opposite the plaza so a short walk to the ferry building and an adequate sized lift ( which can take wheelchairs). Absolutely blown away by the decor, the layout (huge round table for our small group) and the best views of the Mersey and the three graces I've ever had. Service was perfect, attentive, allowing time to decide (almost and hour in our case😆), yet there to answer any questions about the menu. Portion sizes ranged from average to huge depending on the dishes ordered, my tempura vegetables were amongst the best I've had and the wok fried crispy coated sea bass was a revelation for me. Everyone commented on how much they'd enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I just can't understand why people think the food is expensive, have they been living under a rock? Every Sunday roast/home cooked pub meal/decent chinese/Indian I've had recently has been £15-£20. Exactly the price range here, but this is freshly prepared food and enough that you struggle to finish it. No hurrying to get you out either, a big plus! Allow £35/ head including drinks for 2 courses..

10 of us booked in on a Saturday afternoon. Everyone loved their food. Some highlights were the Prawn Penang curry and Singapore Vermicelli noodles with Prawns and Char Sui. The location overlooks the Mersey. Lovely outside terrace. Great place.

Not great, something has changed, been going to this restaurant for many years and always had a very good experience. However this time the food was very disappointing and the floor of the restaurant was actually sticky? Had two of the sharing platers, chicken was dry and over cooked, rest of the food was not great. Staff were a mix some were engaging and chatty while other were indifferent. The setting is fantastic but will not be returning.

Impressive views and deep curiosity have had wondering what the rooftop bar was above the ferry loading building. I finally found the door on the side of the building and up we went. The view is as glorious as I anticipated. I also thought we would not get a table as there was a concert going on at the pier head itself. But we were welcomed in smiling faces and all....and considering we were dining quite late, that was a pleasant surprise. This is upscale dining. And the ambience is reflected in the price. But, oh my, food was delicious! The pan Asian menu means a large variety of choices. We started with hot and sour soup. For any Asian place this is my barometer the rest of the menu. It was gorgeous. Thick and fresh and just the right amount of heat. Just lovely. My friend chise ho fun which is essentially a beef noodle dish with dark soy for his mains . And for one who said he wasn't hungry ... He devoured it. So I say that was a winner. I had a 16 ounce T-bone that was well seasoned and prepared just the way I asked. It was juicy and full of flavour. It was served with thick cut chips and some asparagus. So yummy Desert was a tasty chocolate spring roll and I had a cheesecake.... Very happy plates by the end. Absolutely delighted with our experience.

The Matou is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the ferry dock in Liverpool. Based on the 2nd floor of the dock building it has a spectacular view of the river and harbor. The atmosphere is good and the food is also good. They have 2 menus. One the fixed lunch menu featuring one starter and one main menu for 16 pounds and the ala carte one. Ordered the chicken sweet corn ( just about ok) the mixed veg fried rice which was good and the chicken in black bean which was also good. A good meal.

First time visit here, ordered two sharing platters between us. Food was so overcooked, dry, harder than should have been. Didn’t like cause if a scene so waited for staff to ask how food was, not one person came to us. Stupidly ate most between us, very disappointing. When staff cleared plates we complained so kitchen staff was aware, management stated we ate it so there’s no complaint to be made. Was disgusted and will never go back and strongly urge this buisiness to sort its kitchen staff and management out!

Absolutely awful experience - was not impressed with the food. The chicken in the chow main and chicken peanut stir fry was boiled and had zero flavour to the point we had to send the chow main dish back. Hot and sour soup was thick and gluggy, and not enjoyable at all. For a restaurant that claims to be fine dining, it was most definitely not and I left feeling both hungry as I barely ate my food, and robbed due to the extortionately high price we paid. The manager was of little help and despite our complaints and barely eaten food, still required us to pay the full bill. I have never felt more disappointed and hungry after leaving a restaurant. Do not recommend at all.

We had a lovely family meal to celebrate a graduation. The lady who served us was exceptional, knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious. Esp the lamb shank, and the prawn toast..

This is my favourite Asian restaurant in Liverpool and it never disappoints. Big thank you to Jing for always going above and beyond to make our experience amazing.

Very nice place, great views when sitting outside but needs more choice of food on the menu, also for the expensive prices on food and drink they should give proper table service instead of asking you to order at the bar

The 360 view is amazing for river Mersey and the city. The atmosphere is casual with cool vibes. We tried the ice cream and the mango cheese cake and they were both tasty. The service was good and the staff was friendly.

Went on Monday 3rd June for the first time, especially to see the launching of the Queen Anne. Food was amazing. Staff were superb especially the three at the front door. Great atmosphere on the day and fabulous time was had by all.

Amazing 360 degrees views from the restaurant of the Liverpool city centre and river Mersey! Food was nice and staff is nice and friendly! They have outdoor seating - which is great for a nice summers sunny day! Went for a 40th birthday party! We had moo ping (pork skewers) , chicken sweetcorn soup with some prawn crackers , Korean style duck fillet and lamb shank ! Everything was tasty ! For dessert tried their mango and passion fruit cheesecake which was tasty as well!

Sorry, my dog does not allow me to spend money where she's not admitted, even when the terrace is empty 🙄

Staff couldn't do enough for us,looked after my dietary needs,cooked freshly and omitted ingredients I could not have with no fuss.

Great Asian restaurant food is on a pricey side but the food is delicious. Fairly large serving sizes but still on the steeper side of pricing atmosphere is nice good views from inside. Service could use a freshen up some staff aren’t the friendliest, but other then that I can fault the restaurant

Absolutely disgusted as they would not accept my reservation made 3 weeks prior to today when we arrived,they offered us the same table but £10 per person cos the booking hadn’t gone through on system although it was on my phone. They had the table available but wanted another £30 for us to eat there,booked especially for daughters birthday, disgusting attitude on the staff at the door entrance

The view from the Resturant is pretty special. The pineapple seafood fried rice was good, apart from that every other dish was mediocre, the worst was the soup. Some of the dishes have wine so make sure you check if you don’t consume alcohol. I’d say that it’s on the expensive side. Even though the staff says the chicken is halal it isn’t. Stick to seafood.

The way up to this restaurant by stairs does not set a good first impression - there are stored chairs on the landings, and a gereral scruffy feeling. We were seated quickly at a square table for two. One of the chairs had it's back to the lovely view, so we moved it round to the side after checking that was ok with the couple next to us. We were quickly told in a very rude way by a waiter that we weren't allowed to do that. When we explained we'd checked with the couple next to us, he said in an unpleasant manner that it was the managers decision and we would have to move it back. We were moved to a table away from the window but which still had a bit of a view that we could both face. The pressure is on to order quickly. We kept getting asked, despite wishing to enjoy a drink first, and saying wed let the waitress, Maria, know when we were ready to order. The menu is good and extensive. We chose Nasi Goreng, prawn crackers and hoi sin duck salad. It was all delicious and the waitress laughed when she saw we'd absolutely cleared our plates. It would have been five stars with better customer service.

We booked a party of 20+ for my cousin's birthday. Really nice venue, overlooking the river. Nice decor, good cocktail bar and food and service were great. We'll definitely be back.

The location and design of the building promise so much, but as you ascend the stairs, past two landings of haphazardly stored spare furniture, doubts start to creep in. We weren’t eating, so I can’t review the food. However, at the bar, the service was unenthusiastic and non-committal. Call me old fashioned, but when I’m being charged £8.50 for a glass of red wine, I like some acknowledgement of this ludicrous exchange with perhaps a “thank you”, some eye contact, and - I know I’m asking a lot here - a smile. None were forthcoming. We sat outside to enjoy the last weak rays of April sunshine. But again, what promised to be a great terrace was littered with uncleared tables, and, worst of all, two filthy wheelie bins and assorted rubbish. Feels weird even typing that, but I’m not kidding. These aren’t just wheelie bins, they look like cast offs from a drugs amnesty. As it was getting proper chilly on the terrace, we went back inside. To the side of the bar there was a pile of cardboard rubbish (see photo). This sort of thing you might expect in Lidl on a busy Saturday, but in a prime location asking premium prices? No. I needed the loo and asked the ‘meet and greet’ person at the entrance where I might find them. The grunt I received by way of direction got my back up. If a member of my family communicated like that to me I’d wonder what I did to offend them. The toilets were fine. For the men. The women’s was occupied by half a dozen workmen trying to sort them out. That meant there was a line of women queuing up to use the disabled toilet (ironic term when you consider how incapable the ‘abled’ toilet was. In summary, what struck me was how piss poor this place is managed. Attitude comes from the top down in hospitality, and the attitude here spoke of profit over people. No one here is seeing this place through the eyes of the customer. If they did, they would not be impressed.

Nice rooftop terrace, only had a drink so cannot comment on food but restaurant looked very nice and overlooks the Mersey.

Had a set meal. We could not fault the food or the service. The views were fab too.

Beautiful place, lovely views, nice staff, very quick service, food cooked very quick, almost too quick which felt slightly concerning. However we picked the fine dining meal for 2 and each paid 35£ for the tasting menu. There was a lot of food in there However it was TERRIBLE. As soon as the first platter came I was shocked by the quality of food, it should be named "fried dining" rather than fine dining. 2 spring rolls, 2 fish cakes, a few chicken skewers and 2 fish cakes. If you want a really poor poor quality meal that is fried and extremellllyyy salty this is the place to be!!!! It is shocking and I was worried about my health and thought I might get food poisoning. Then we had the crispy duck pancake thing which was kind of okay but the duck tastes so crisp and oily. Then we had the last bit of a dish with beef, rice with some crispy bits on top and prawns, a vegetable dish and a thai green curry. Everything was terrible and just did not taste nice. So salty, very oily, the meat tasted slightly off and the veg tasted bitter and salty. Could not eat much of it. We felt our tongues and mouths tingling and still tasted salt hours later.... it was so expensive as well i thought great a place to have a bit of a tasting menu with a lovely view. What a mistake!!! However I would definitely recommend for drinks and view but not the food!! Be careful.

Had a great experience here. The view was amazing and the staff were lovely. Our waitress especially was so kind and helpful. The food was delicious, i only wish the portions were slightly bigger. It’s also quite expensive so keep that in mind. But If you can afford it, I would say that it is worth it.

Very nice and friendly staff. Excellent food. Atmosphere would have been 5 but for the trio of drunken, foul mouthed blaring morons present. Fortunately these decanted about 20 minutes after my wife arrived. Great views over the Mersey and nice rooftop terrace. Will be very happy to visit again.

The food is lovely, egg fried rice is weird though. Luminous yellow with onions. My issue was with being shooed out because they had another booking for our table. Bearing in mind our party was for a child's 16th birthday dinner.

Came here for a meal with my girlfriend last weekend. Amazing food, great service. Well worth the price. Will definitely be returning here even if only coming to Liverpool to go here

We just finished the river mersey cruise and we saw this resto from the river. It’s overlooking the river. We decided to celebrate vday lunch here. Me and my 11 and 13 yr old kids. We enjoyed the food! It was a bit expensive but the portions are big (i was expecting them to be small) and ambiance is truly nice, we sat by the window overlooking the river. The spareribs were huge and we loved the taste! Crunchy but tender and so flavorful. Duck salad and the Salmon with noodle are good too! Highly recommended.

Food lovely special house chow mein but too many vegetables on it , spring rolls very nice and filling with sweet chilli sauce but not cheap for meal as they charge you 10% service charge also I would personally refuse to pay as it is discretion but otherwise very nice restaurant

Friendly treatment, cheap and competitive prices

We went there last summer for a late lunch and drinks on a sunny day. The view was great and the food was delicious. However the music was a bit too loud and the floor was sticky. Someone before us spilled a drink and the it dried on the floor. PS: If you're having food at terrace, be careful about the seagulls.

Had a very bad experience with this restaurant. They will ask you for a holding deposit if you want a table reservation so I had my card details given. I asked for a reservation for 10 pax which was confirmed thru email but when we arrived at the location we were only provided with 9 chairs and when we told that we have a reservation for 10 they just squeezed us to a very small table where we can’t even fit and can’t have our food properly. They gave us a reason that they have a lot of customer. So what’s the point of having a reservation!! One more thing, we were given 2 hours sitting as per policy but we were asked to leave the table 15 minutes earlier despite having our order served late! Such a disgusting service!!!

Wonderful situation with views across the river. Food and service were both incredible. Prawn toast and panang curry were highlights for us. Some of the finer details are a little tired (menus, tableware, cutlery), which detracts slightly from the 'fine dining' vibe that they were possibly going for when it first opened. Still - that's a pretty minor point, and I'd definitely return for the food, the service, and the views.

My first visit there and I was enjoying my food but when I nearly finished my plate I had found a long black hair in my food, when I alerted the waiter he called someone over to apologise and gave me a new dish which I couldn't finish another and still had to pay for my meal which I don't think should have happened. I think they could of dealt with the situation better as they tried to keep it quiet whilst there boss was sitting across the restaurant.

Saturday night birthday party for 30, was brilliant. Our host Merry and the staff wwre fantastic and a credit to the company. Everyone said the food was hot, tasty and went down a treat. First time vist but not won't be the last.

Megan was so nice and a great server. Service was excellent as was the food.

We visited the place as part of a large group and every year we do this and spend a lot of money. This year the manager in charge was really rude and unprofessional. We as a group probably spend twice as more money then the regular people attending. With this we would not cause any inconvenience. But this time I was forced to put this complaint as I do not tolerate disrespect to any customers. I felt I was judged and I think this is un fair.

I went with a group of people, the staff were lovely but they missed my order and I had to ask where my order was. My food arrived after everyone else had finished eating but not one person apologised for the inconvenience not even the manager who was aware of the situation. You pay before you eat and I was charged a service charge which should have been refunded. The food was good but very overpriced for the amount you get. The atmosphere was really good but overall I wouldn't return again.

The food was horrible. We was 6 people in total, and 3 of them vomit few hours later!!! I’ve order a seafood platter for 2 people and it was only for one to be honest! The prawns was not cooked properly, they was fresh, horrible taste! I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! The most worst restaurant in Liverpool I ever been!!!

Another great meal in this lovely pan Asian restaurant! We visit Matou each time we are in Liverpool and love the food, the atmosphere and the beautiful views out over the Mersey. It doesn’t matter if you like your food spicy or plain, there’s lots to choose from in the extensive menu.

Brilliant atmosphere here. Service is great and all staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is just ok. Nothing wrong with it but just doesn’t reach the standard that some other Asian restaurants offer in Liverpool.

Lovely views of the estuary - good service - even if it's a "get it yourself from the bar." Nice atmosphere. Didn't have any food.

Generally very good- descriptions on menu could be more precise when offering a unique variation on a theme eg oyster sauce is generally dark not light and gelatinous - if this is different it should be explained -also better explanation of what the vegetables with lamb chops which more resembled shredded salad. Service very polite and courteous, view great , value good considering the location. Will come again

We booked the restaurant for our daughters post graduation meal. Food was amazing. Waitress clear didn't want to be there, music to loud. Our table did have a lovely view but would have been nice to have a choice of table.

Overall a lovely restaurant in an amazing location, perfect for a date night or celebratory dinner! The view from the main dining area is great, looking out at the water; on the other side the drinks terrace has a lovely backdrop for photos and having a few drinks in the sun. The only reason for the 4* rating was due to the vegetarian options offered, these weren’t great but I do understand that pan Asian cuisine is not largely vegetarian so this is a minor issue. I would return again for another visit!

The restaurant is not very clean. The food and service is not match with price. The management need improve.

Worst experience with the staff members

Not sure what happened to this lovely place , food quality , presentation way below usual standards, I understand its summer , you want to utilise the outdoor area but you can make that restaurant as a pub with same typo of service and then add service charge !!! Waited to order our drinks and food for 15 minutes , serve myself and pay to someone else £12 🙃 I guess place became one of those where revenue its only important and at the moment it runs on previous results Maybe new owners ?

Just spent there 25£ Biggest mistake in my life!!!! The food was average same taste like in any cheap local takeaway no sauces was provided nothing!!! But the main happened when I left the table for 3 minutes to speak on the phone. I turn my head an dsee how they are taking away all the food and full glasses with beer AWAY!!!! LITERALLY ROBBED ME FOR 25£!!! WHEN I CAME TO MANAGER HE SAYS BIRDS STARTED TO EAT YOUR FOOD SO WE TOOK IT AWAY!!! HOW CAN YOU TOUCH MY FOOD WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW??????? MB I Wanted THEM TO EAT THAT SHITY RICE AND BARELY COOKED BEEF FULL GLASS OF BEER WAS ALSO TAKEN AWAY BIRDS DODNT DRINK BEER !!! I WASTED MY. MONEY TIME I GOT NO REFUND ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!!

What a great find. We had a Nasi Goreng which took me back to my childhood in Kuala Lumpur. Absolutely delicious. And the icing on the cake was the barman Sam who knew how to make a proper Old Fashioned! Brilliant evening and if I'm ever back in Liverpool I'll be back at Matou!

I popped in for some desserts and drinks. We chose the outside or rooftop area where you can see a good view of the waterfront building and the Beatles statue. I ordered cheesecake, and the fried banana was well-tasted, but the Coke tasted weird- it tasted like tap water or more chlorine 😅

Food was salty as, we sat down around 5pm waited half an hour for drinks after ordering twice. Again waiting another 20/30 mins for drinks for 2nd AND 3rd round. Again food just Salty just go your local chippy

After a little walk along the front we decided to pop in here for some food! Appalling service and food! The girl on the desk was lovely however everyone else working there didn’t even look at you when serving. I ordered a platter which wasn’t that bad and then chicken black bean and fried rice which was absolutely disgusting & uneditable. My mouth is still tingling of the salt from one spoonful! After asking for a refund and being told there was nothing wrong with so they can’t offer me one… I strongly advise you not to order this dish as it must be horrendously salty all the time. Really overpriced as the food very poor quality & you can tell!

I give this place a very generous 4 star review. It doesn’t deserve a 4 star but 3 star would be too harsh Restaurant setting 10/10, food 5/10, had salt pepper ribs 6/10, green Thai curry 5/10 chicken was rubbery, crispy aromatic duck 4/10 one of the most tasteless crispy ducks I’ve had in my life and was cold when they served it. Mixed feeling about this place when the venue is so posh, the food is mediocre and the menus are ripped like a greasy spoon cafe. 🤨

Matou has some of the best views for dining in Liverpool! However, expect to pay a premium for the view and don't expect premium quality food to match the prices.

Wonderful views overlooking the eurovision village (one-off) and the Mersey. Received the wrong order, the service wasn’t great in addition to long and slow queues. Enjoyed the food. The dessert was a little disappointing - ordered the lemongrass creme brûlée and it didn’t taste any different. Good presentation.

I visited the restaurant on 23.03.2023, Thursday. I had booked a table for 5-6:30pm slot online assuming that we will be well recieved, the special occasion being my husband’s birthday, we were looking forward for a beautiful experience. Once we were seated we requested the staff that we would like to have drinks first and then head for mains. The coordination amongst the servers was so so poor, they kept on harassing us until 5:20pm to place an order for mains, they were inconsiderate, awful and very rude. The staff mentioned to us that we can’t keep the table( which was specifically reserved for 1.5 hours by us) only for drinks and nibbles. We kept on informing them that we would place the order for mains give us sometime, once the drinks are done we would ofcourse have a nice meal and leave but no, in a span of 12 mins- 5 staffers came in to ask and kept on nagging for the order, eventually we lost our patience and left our drinks and nibbles and left the place in 32 mins. If anyone wants to go and have a peaceful time, I would request u to never ever go to the place. We asked to speak to the manager about the behaviour and our dissatisfaction, but the person never showed up. It was the worst place we could choose. HORRIBLE and TRULY AWFUL EXPERIENCE

Absolutely outstanding the best we have had! We normally go to our hometown in Newcastle for a nice meal however this beat them all. Thank you we will return! We had the set meal and drinks and good value for £35 per head.

Lovely food BUT appalling service. Waited 2.5 hrs for food, received my rice 5 minutes before the curry arrived and constantly had to attract staffs attention to get a drinks order. I accept we were a large party but if you can’t cater attentively for that number of diners don’t accept the booking. Overall made to feel like we were a nuisance and spoilt our celebration.

Food was nice but majorly overpriced for what you get and experience was completely ruined by the customer service skills of some staff members. Working in hospitality myself, I try to be as patient and understanding as possible but staff didn’t appear to call away main meals to the kitchen so waited over 2 hours to eat anything whilst other members of the party were rushed to finish their starters before any one else could receive their food. After requesting for all meals to have been brought out at the same time - we were told by an assistant manager that ‘that sort of thing doesn’t happen’ in their ‘type’ of establishment. We were then further told to assume this sort of treatment due to a ‘party of our size’. I advise that in future this restaurant does not accept bookings of ‘our size’ if they cannot provide a decent standard of service. Left feeling as if we were nuisances and spoilt 30th birthday celebrations. Also told beforehand that there would be children’s food options to which their only choice was salt and pepper chicken minus the S+P and still expected to pay full price.

First and last visit. In with a party of twenty five. "Complimentary" prawn crackers offered for £4 for ten. Some of the party had the set menu but we were not offered the option to have our mains while the set menus had their starters. Consequently two thirds of the party waited nearly two hours for their meals! To top it all they added a £75 service charge to the bill ! The food wasn't that bad overall. Way over priced, service was dire and if I ever see the waitress that rolled her eyes and snarled at one of my relatives I won't be responsible for what I say !

Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing views, lovely friendly staff.

Lovely meal in beautiful setting, served by Megan, offered informative info about the menu and a great waitress. Will return soon

Had to wait an hour for drinks, complained twice and did nothing. Wanted to order more drinks but no staff appeared. Even after going to tell staff a couple times we want more drinks they didn't come. We had a table of about 10 people, they lost a load of cash simply by not serving us regularly (and it wasn't due to us being rowdy or anything, staff were just useless). I mean, we could have ordered four rounds in the time we were there, £7 x 10 x 4 orders = £280. Then scale that up to all the other tables. Insanity.
