Plenty of worry free parking and unlike the ECP car park it's free for customers of the pub only. But be careful because you have to go through the ECP car park to get to the pub car park. So ecp cameras time you going in to their car park and then coming back out again. Those cameras do not know that you have gone to the pub car park. So you could get a fine because you've not paid ECP who seems to assume your parking on their car park. Not the matchstick man car park free to its customers. If you do get fined go back to the pub and they will quash the fine for you. As long as you were parked as one of their customers.

I've never been here even though I've lived in the Quays for 6 years. I was pleasantly surprised with the lovely decor in the restaurant actually. I used the app, which was straightforward! I ordered the Sunday roast, it was quite tasty! It would be even better if it had more flavour / seasoning; also the gravy portion isn't enough to cover the roast. Service was very good but my friend ordered at the bar and the kitchen missed her side of pigs in blanket. All well resolved though! Thank you for a fab meal

I recently visited the Matchstick Man and had a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, but what really stood out was the excellent service from Casper, the bartender. He was attentive, friendly, and incredibly helpful, making the evening enjoyable. The drinks were top-notch, crafted with care, and exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommend stopping by for a drink (or two!) and, if you’re lucky, being served by Casper. Will definitely be back!

The General Manager (or the like) offers extremely poor service. He is a bald man at his 50s-60s, shaved, wearing black T-shirt and black trousers. Always looks angry, and without any smiles or "thank you" or "please" etc. The manner he brought customers from the host stand to tables and the way he interacted with customers has been honestly terrible, rude and impatient. Totally not nice at all. In one instance - my pint of apple cider Strongbow tasted like water. I kindly told the waitress, then she raised it to this General Manager. This man came and told me that the cider was fine, and with an indifferent and impatient manner. Without any apologies, he gave me a smaller glass with an even smaller portion of cider without explanation, saying "The cider is fine" and simply walked away - leaving no chance for me to say anything as he was already gone metres away and vanished! What a non-British way of serving customers. Very disappointed, especially all the other waiters and waitresses have been very hospitable to customers, which makes a huge contrast with this guy. It is the waiters and waitresses that make me wanna come to enjoy the service and the food again and again. As a long-term supporter and customer, I am absolutely astonished by how inhospitable the General Manager is.

Think twice before you book a table in this place! They turned my night out with frineds into a nightmare. The managment doesn’t have a clue how to resolve problems. I think they want to escalate the problem, provoking customers verbaly or using agressive body language (landlord showed middle finger to the customer). Managment attidute is shocking, you can feel very unwelcome -a lot of customers been asked to leave premises by Tracey even though they didn’t finish their drinks that they paid for. Landlord spilt a drink on customers phones, pulled the chair out from under one lady etc. Avoid this place!

I recently visited the restaurant where Leanne greeted us warmly, making us feel welcome right away. Ellie and Monique provided excellent service, ensuring our experience was enjoyable. The food was delicious.Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and I can't wait to go back!

I've had a good time while visiting The Matchstick Man until I witnessed a very uncomfortable situation between the guests and the bar staff. The management of the staff got involved and I saw tension rising at the bar between the guests and the management. It seemed that guests were explaining something to the management but from far, it looked very unpleasant as the management was visibly getting angry and insulting. It was unbelievably unprofessional of the management to act this way towards the guests, resorting to anger and impoliteness to sort a situation. Having seen how aggressive the management was getting towards the guests at the bar was shocking and scary, thinking this could have been me in that situation. Nobody deserves that treatment and the guests have acted with integrity by waiting for the police to arrive to resolve the situation. I will never return to the Matchstick Man having seen how the staff treat guests. Very shocking behaviour.

Just come home from Matchstick Man, first and last time there. We pre booked a table for 6 adults and 2 children approx 4 days in advance for my daughters 11th birthday so they were aware there was a booking in for 6pm. We arrived and were told to all book from the same table number on the app by someone on the bar which we did. 2 combo starters. 6 adult meals and 4 side of fries. We requested on the app for the combo starters to come out AS starters. Fairly quickly 2 mains arrived. Then another 2. At which point I pointed out we had ordered 2 starters. We were told she could take the mains back to put under the light and wait for the starters but that "we would be waiting a while". Like it was our fault and were ready to penalise us. I told her to cancel the starters and just bring the mains at which point she pretty muched dropped the food on the table and stormed off. No apology. When questioned why mains were arriving before starters we were told the Greene King app doesnt allow you to select starters and will all come through as going out together despite anyone who uses the app knowing the app does in fact ask wether you'd like it as a main or starter. 40 mins later 4 of us had finished eating and 4 were still sat with no food. Waitresses back and forth hadn't thought to question why 4 people including 2 children were sat with no food. We questioned why our food hadn't arrived and were told they were unsure and they would look into it! 2 waitresses had zero idea where our food had gone. We were told they had let a chef leave early as it was quiet so it was busy. There were about 40 people in the pub at this point including ourselves. My mum and daughter went to the bar to question what was happening as about 10 mins had past with no update and were met with 3 people with absolutely zero clue what was happening. At this point my daughter commented to her Nanna one of the girls on the bar was *swear word* beginning with F rude. This apparently caused this girl to run to the kitchens in floods of tears. Next minute the manager comes into the pub with an attitude asking who swore. The other girl behind the bar had no idea anybody had swore. The manager wasn't interested in the fact that she had 8 people who were in the middle of an absolutely abysmal experience in her pub. Only that one of us had supposedly made her grandaughter cry. Bear in mind she wasn't there but was 100% certain her grandughter wasn't rude. When we began explaining what was going on and the fact the comment was made to another person not directly to her grandaughter quiet enough to where 2 others stood beside her hadn't even heard it and that she was in fact rude. We were pretty much called liars! Once she realised she was getting abit wobbly on her moral high ground she asked us to leave and if we would like to write to head office her name was Tracey! If we were the type of people to kick off and be rude, surely this would have happened alot earlier than this, when sat watching tables of food arriving to them over 30 mins after we had ordered? And surely would have been apparent to everyone in the pub not just 1 of 3 people behind the bar. There was a comment made from a frustrated customer being met with incapable staff. The manager was absolutely uninterested in anything other than her grandaughter had supposedly been made to cry. She was unprofessional and rude herself. The correct way to deal with this coming from a hospitality manager would have been to have got the facts together and made a professional decision. Not walked into a business establishment and act like a scorned grandmother with absolutely no interest in resolving the issue at hand. This pub is clearly run where compliments are welcome, complaints are met with an attitude, hostility and opinion of grandiour that has no place from a manager running a business, who sits on her moral high ground as a grandmother and not as a professional receiving critique.

Avoid! If I could give the place 0 stars, that's the rating that the place would have received. The management/landlords were absolutely disgusting to their customers last weekend and I have never seen anything like it. The male pub landlord had an issue with a group of 3 young ladies sitting by the bar after his employee accepted an old 20 pound note from them (the girls were tourists). The landlord was becoming more aggressive and intimidating to the girls while trying to resolve that situation, making the girls appear visibly uncomfortable, so another customer stepped in to see if she can help at all. The pub manager, Tracy, then shouted at the customer that tried to help and her friends and told them to get out for no reason. The male landlord had then came over to the table to take their drinks that the customer had just bought and the customer and her friends were of course unhappy. The male landlord ended up spilling alcohol on customer's phone and bag, soaking them, as he was so determined to take the drinks away from the customers. The customers had been told that police is on their way so they were waiting to speak to the police to understand what they had done to get this treatment and to get the refund for the drinks that they had just bought and have been taken by the landlord. The situation was escalating, with the male landlord using abusive spoken and body language, he told customers to go away using foul hand gestures when the customers complained about his and Tracy's attitudes. He even snatched a chair from the customer that tried to help the girls at the bar while she was still sitting on the chair! The pub got shut early because tension was rising. The male landlord appeared to have been provoking the customers on purpose to try and escalate the situation to become more serious, possibly to cause more drama so that the incident appeared more serious to the police. Tracy was equally disgusting in her behaviour, being utterly disrespectful to the customers and she should be ashamed to call herself a manager of the place when her job is to manage situations like this politely and efficiently. No customer wants to be shouted at, intimidated, treated like they are nothing and discriminated against. I will not be returning as a customer as it was a very scary situation.

I'm disgusted by last night's event we encountered at The Matchstick Man. Lack of professionalism and work ethics from the management was appalling. No basic training to an employee was obviously given in regards to handling the cash. The approach to the guest was very aggressive with abusive language. Only if the website would allow it, the rating would be 0 or even less. The police were called because of the inappropriate behaviour of the management, and I have to stress again appalling attitude towards a customer. Thank you for turning our evening into a nightmare. A formal complaint to Greene King will follow in a due course.

I am lost for words at the disgusting and obviously racist behaviour I witnessed this weekend. Unprofessional and outright aggressive towards a seemingly helpless group of young ladies. The staff and management (specifically Tracy) should be embarrassed to call themselves landlords. I am dumbfounded how these individuals can work in the hospitality sector with an attitude and behaviour as such.

Avoid at all costs. The security is extremely poor. No problem personally, but we witnessed extremely poor handling of a situation. They closed the pub early due to a situation with a group of Polish girls. The whole situation had a very racist overtone. First time visitor's and we won't be back.

Lovely friendly pub.. came for lunch with a couple of friends. Served by leanne nothing seemed to much trouble, pointed out the offers that were available I had the large chicken new yorker have to say it was simply delicious, complements to the chef. All food served piping hot and well presented. Overall a delightful visit, will definitely be back.

Nice enough place, staff very friendly, service fine. Food is good enough, comes out quite quickly, 2nd time I've been and both times steak overdone and not as I ordered. But overall place is fine, not to crowded and plenty of parking.

Great atmosphere but meal was average, chicken was not covered in bacon and no coleslaw as per menu. Texan sauce tasted more like barbecue sauce out of a bottle.

Good place to visit to watch football games. Loads of sections with tvs and commentary. Some sections are alcohol only so no food available so do check the same before you seat

We had a family meal there today (19/09) the staff are friendly and service was great but the food i had a mixed grille and most of it was nice but the sausages looked and tasted like they where from the day before's breakfast menu they were that bad i would not even feed them to a dog

Lovely evening. Very enjoyable well-cooked meal. The staff were amazing:friendly but still unobtrusive.

The building itself and seating is nice. However, the food menu was very limited, they didnt have much stock, so alot of it was not available. When we did order. We requested extra Jalapenos for the Nachos as there weren't many on it. They refused. We offered to pay for them, and they said no as they couldn't put it through the till. We then requested hot sauce, and again, they said they didn't have any despite Franks red hot clearly being on the menu for some of the offerings. I wouldn't recommend coming here for food overall as the experience was poor, the drinks were average and what you'd get anywhere.

AJ who served us was great, he had amazing customer service and made sure everything was right for us, had good humor, and had a great attitude for work. Would go again, made it a more than pleasant experience!

We hadn’t been for several years and visited with family members. We had two items from the menu and of the meals was lovely (lamb kofta flatbread) but the full Monty mixed grill had shrunk significantly since we last had it several years ago and the ‘chicken breast’ was awful - it seemed very processed and had an unusual flavour. It wasn’t off but it was rubbery and did not taste good. The quality of the sausage also seemed poor. To avoid embarrassment to party members, we didn’t say anything whilst there but we certainly wouldn’t have the mixed grill or anything with chicken if we go back.

Reasonable prices. Food was ok. Service was good.
