We have often eaten in Mason Belles Kitchen so it seemed a natural choice when we were having a special birthday celebration for a large group of family and friends. We weren’t disappointed - the food was delicious and the service attentive without being intrusive. From planning stages to the day itself, Hannah and the team did an amazing job in ensuring we had a wonderful celebration, enjoyed by all.

Had a lovely girlie Afternoon tea today at Mason Belle and it certainly didn't disappoint! Two normal and two veggie options were presented and everything was delicious! Not a boring sandwich in sight. We had the tastiest soup to start then gorgeous savoury bites! The homemade jam was lovely with the scones followed by dainty cakes that were to die for. The staff were outstanding very attentive. Hannah was so nice we couldn't have asked for more! Very happy girls, we will be back!

We attempted to book for dinner but no-one answered the phone - so we turned up. It was challenging to locate the restaurant as it is located down a poorly signed alley! Initially, we were told that we could not order for 45 minutes or so, but we were immediately shown to a free table. The restaurant was busy and we opted to have a drink at the table whilst we waited. Soon after the drinks arrived, we were asked to choose our food which arrived fairly quickly. Regrettably, as we write this review one month later, were are not able to recall what we ate, so it was not memorable in a good or bad sense! The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Had an afternoon tea here as part of a celebration in July. Staff were very attentive and some nice cakes and savouries on the afternoon tea. Chef had obviously had an eye for details and something a little different. I wasn’t drinking so can’t comment on the alcohol selection.

THE UGLY: We entered the restaurant via a weed strewn vennel with an assortment of beer barrels and chairs thrown in for good measure. We were unable to book a table for our preferred time of 5.30pm although the opening hours are advertised as 12pm to 10pm. Turned out the restaurant was empty when we arrived at 6pm and the table was only available for us till 7.55pm. THE GOOD: The chef did well in producing some delicious food although the portion sizes were not for those that are hungry. The menu had variety and should appeal to most. THE BAD: The desserts were disappointing. The Mango Cheesecake arrived looking like a kids plate of ice cream. When asked about the dish it was ‘a deconstructed cheesecake’. No mention of the deconstruction process on the menu, presumably this additional work in deconstructing what presumably was a perfectly good cheesecake increased the price to almost £9. I did look for the shortbread that allegedly came with the dish, never found it. The Strawberry Shortbread Meringue also failed to impress. But we did ask about the lack of shortbread. The waitress had to ask the chef. She returned with two small shortbread biscuits saying they should have been included. The desserts were further soured as our order was taken at 7.40pm and arrived at 7.50pm and we had to give up the table by 7.55pm. We paid up and left feeling that the experience could have been so much better. The cost of the food probably reflected the quality however to charge £3.40 for 250ml of a can of coke seems extortionate, that’s £13.60 a litre!

Nice setting, especially to eat in the garden area in the summer. We went for a Sunday lunch. Did not have a starter. Took an hour to be served our main course. When it arrived, the meat was delicious but some of the vegetables were very under cooked. Couldn't even cut through the parsnips. They did offer to take the parsnips away and cook them some more but it didn't seem worth it as we were half way through the meal. Dessert was quite good. Limited child's choices. We saw an Afternoon Tea being served and that looked very nice.

I went with my husband to celebrate my birthday as I wanted to go to somewhere with fine dining and somewhere a bit more special and I was very happy that we went here as the food was amazing. For starter we had the potted beef (every table seemed to have 1 person pick this when we were in so it's very popular) and the monkfish pil pil. After a little bit of salt on the pil pil it was truly amazing. Both were very flavoursome. For mains I had the pork and husband had the chicken. Both were unbelievably tasty and well balanced and the jus's were out of this world. I had seen complaints about portion sizes when looking at reviews before going, but it is fine dining so I expected it not to be massive. That said you do eat slower to savour the tastes and flavours and I was pretty stuffed after starter and main. I really wanted to try a dessert so we shared the tea and biscuits, and I was so glad we did it was gorgeous. The lemon didn't really make sense to me on the dish as the other flavours are very subtle so it was too strong but it was a glorious dessert and was so glad we tried it. Overall service was a bit slow initially, we arrived at the same time as another couple and they got their drinks order taken and then cocktails delivered before anyone came to ask us for our drinks which was a bit annoying. The pinto grigio was lovely and my husband enjoyed the malbec. Overall a really outstanding meal and I have raved about it to everyone. We liked the place so much we booked to go again in a few weeks time to try their mid week menu.

Lovely visit again to Mason Belle. The ambience in the restaurant is lovely and it always feels like you’re having a very special dining experience. Food was lovely again and service impeccable, although maybe a little on the slow side. There’s a fine line between feeling rushed and relaxed and I think this time was a little long but this is not a complaint, just an observation. There was a slight concern regarding portion size. My partner ordered the beef which was a fairly small portion but we thought this was just the norm. However the table beside us ordered the same dish and their portions looked nearly double the size. He did still leave feeling satisfied after his dessert but at the same time an underlying niggle that his meal had been significantly smaller than the average portion. The food was still delicious though and overall didn’t spoil our visit.

I’ve been a few times previously and had good experiences but our last one was a real disappointment. Hadnt been for 3 years when they had a separate vegan menu and the food was great. Imaginative and well presented with good service. But this visit was pretty awful. We were shown to our table by a new inexperienced server who in all honesty, shouldn’t be on the floor himself. We waited 20 mins to give a drinks order despite the small restaurant not being full. My partners cocktail came quickly after but was the worst mojito anyone has ever made. One mint leaf and no fresh lime?! My wine never appeared. So after another 20 mins I had to approach the bar since no one had came near us to ask about my drink and complain about the cocktail which was switched for a beer. So 40 mins in we ordered, mains only because it had been such a disaster up to this point. I ordered the vegan option, checking did it come vegan or need amended. Server said he didn’t know. I said well can you check? He never returned. The food was brought out and I was told this was the vegan version, which needed a sauce switched, but who knows if it was. Food was very underwhelming for the price, my cauliflower steak at £21 was over priced and lukewarm. The pork belly was good but portion small even with an added side of truffle fries. My wine was removed from the bill for waiting for so long without having to complain but it wasnt really good enough. Tables beside us also were complaining after a ridiculously long wait for desserts so it was def a bad night. Either way, I won’t be returning which is a shame, it used to be a great venue.

Left what was on the plate. I was not looking for a refund, not my style. I eat out a lot and can differentiate between good food and not good food. This is overpriced underwhelming food. We were here because I was given a birthday gift of a voucher for afternoon tea for two - which was much appreciated. It was even more appreciated when we discovered that this was no ordinary afternoon tea. We started with a lovely wee cup of delicious soup which was followed by a selection of savoury and sweet treats - and not a limp or dried out sandwich in sight!!! There were savoury mushrooms, tempura battered fish, haggis sausage rolls and red pepper bruschetta. Then scones with home made jam and cream, sticky toffee pudding pieces, a set mousse and lovely little filled shortcake biscuits. Everything was delicious and we could wash it all down with tea, coffee or hot chocolate - we had pots of tea. The service was very personal and friendly and we'd recommend this as the truly different afternoon tea experience. The selection changes all the time and we look forward to going again for some new treats!

Went for an early evening pre-booked family festive dinner. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived. The restaurant is not large, but the tables were adequately spaced in the dining area. We were asked to select our complete meal as the kitchen is small and this would assist the chef with meal planning and prevent undue waiting between courses. Meals and drinks were ordered. Throughout the evening our drinks requests proved something of an issue. We were continually being advised that what we had ordered was finished. This even included the non-alcoholic and soft drinks. The food eventually arrived, and although well presented, the portion size was small, warm rather than hot, and the taste was unremarkable considering the premium price paid. Lengthy delays were incurred between removing finished dishes and serving up the next course. Empty drinks glasses and bottles cluttered up our table – not ideal when we had three under 5’s with us. Overall we found the service to be extremely poor, and the attitude of some staff curt. It may well have been the time of year, as there did not appear to be sufficient staff on, and those that were appeared to be stretched. To cap what was a poor evening: a 12.5% service charge added to our bill!!

Had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. They took over a half hour to even come and take a drinks order when we first got there, then it took almost another half hour for some of those drinks to come - and at that point they came to say they didn't have x and z item. This is usually fine, but why did it take them a half hour from taking the order to telling us. They also then had no craft beers, no malbec, no lemonade. The food itself was fine and the place was nicely styled. But the service entirely let it down. Everything needed to be repeated several times, drinks took ages to be brought. Every ask seemed to inconvenience the staff. I wouldn't return to this restaurant and I wouldn't recommend it.

I was looking forward to visit this restaurant for ages, the name of the restaurant itself it’s beautiful but the food was a bit disappointing, this was the restaurant in falkirk maybe the one In Linlithgow is better. I had the calamari for starter which was soggy and stacked up with tempura vegetables underneath to make up for volume and it was also soggy. For Main I had chicken Caesar salad which was sold in bits, add on chicken, add on bacon which was actually ham and not crispy and all, the croutons were deep fried but very soggy and not crunch. I guess the salad price is just the lettuce, onions and the dressing? For a main it was ridiculously small and the dressing left a lot to wish for, it’s a shame because the best part was the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. It was ok overall but I won’t be rushing to come back.

I became obsessed with their pesto and they were very kind enough to give me a tub!!! We will certainly be back. Thank you again.

We had a fantastic lunch, all our food was amazing, our waitress “Hannah” was lovely and very efficient. I require a gluten free diet, this was catered for, with plenty of options, a real treat. We were on a canal holiday wish we had found...

We chose the lunch deal, 2 courses for £16. Service was very good. The food was hot and tasty. The wine was perfectly chilled. This restaurant is in a lovely setting, only a minute's stroll off the High Street. Thankfully this isn't a fast food...

We went for a family lunch and the service was appallingly bad. We had called earlier in the day to say could we shift our booking by 15 mins and were told this wasn’t possible as the kitchen would be too busy and we might...

Came back for a second time after a really positive experience after a first visit. Very disappointed. Food was average to below average. My main course was awful. Complained it was not to my liking twice but nothing was done. £120 for dinner for 2 people and left unhappy. Won't be back. Would have been nice if the cost of the main had been deducted from the bill.

My wife and I had a lunch at Mason Belles Kitchen in Linlithgow. It is tucked away down a lane off the High Street. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely. The service was first class and the food was good. We will be back.

Great food. Great wine. Great service. First time here for celebratory (significant) birthday meal. Couldn't fault it. Beautiful mushroom sauce with the roast chicken. Novel twist to sticky toffee (apple) pudding... with tablet ice cream. Yum!

Really taking the micky, especially with special which we weren't even told the price of. Small portions, icee cream flavour changed without telling us, poor service, and toilets smelled revolting. I really felt cheated. I don't mind paying extra for great food but this wasn't,...

We had a lovely super tasty afternoon tea today which everyone enjoyed and was impressed with. Savoury treats were brilliant- a bit different from the norm which turned out to be a really great surprise. We’ll definitely be back.

We booked a table last week, is a fantastic place for dinner. Little hidden gem I think I read somewhere and it's true. Lighting and mood was lovely. The place looks beautiful and cozy . The staff were fantastic, attentive but not over the top in any way. The food was the best I have had in a long time! It was hot , clearly made from scratch and with fresh produce. The menu is forever changing so when I looked it up I found the wrong one .. but that's just because I'm a picky eater, the choice when we were in was brilliant. Price - I will not complain was worth every penny, however the card machine didn't seem to have a tip option so if that's something you like to do carry cash. To be honest that was my only disappoint was I didn't have a note in my purse to leave with the bill. Will be back Our photos do not do the justice that the chef deserves

Been to this cafe many times coffee excellent and staff lovely but I felt very uncomfortable today at the way some of the staff were spoken to by either a manager or the owner really not acceptable and for that reason alone I won't be back

After arriving at the coffee shop at 3.30, told that they were closing in half an hour, and if we wanted to sit outside, the tables and chairs would be removed soon, so they could only do take away. That was ok, we only wanted three coffees. Sorry we came in when we did, in hindsight we maybe should have gone to one of the many other coffee shops in Linlithgow, and spent our money there - and sorry for asking how to pronounce the word Neuk.

Wow.. I had the vanilla ice cream with my waffle.. Best ice cream i have ever tasted. Caramel sauce and fruit. For a family it can be expensive. Definately enough to share. Staff very polite. Area very clean and well presented.
