The Fat Pheasant in West Lothian

Nice pub with lovely food. We've been a few times, both with their old menu and the new smokehouse menu. The food is always of a high standard and it's great to know that they source their produce locally. Nice selection of beers too and everything is reasonably priced. We'll definitely be back again. Really helpful that they're dog friendly too!

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat en route to Midhope and Blackness Castles. We were seated quickly, even without a booking. Great food and service. Had the Haggis Bon Bons, which were very tasty, and for main had the Roast W/ Yorkshire Pudding and vegetables. Great place to stop in and eat for sure!

This experience was unlike any other... Mainly for personal reasons but I'll tell you anyways.... It was our last night in Scotland and I wanted to go to a cute picturesque pub unlike anything we can get in Canada. We spent £25 to taxi here from our hotel and realized that it's not Scottish at all. But AMERICAN FOOD. Man was I disappointed... Either way, the place itself was quite gorgeous inside and indeed what I was searching for. My mistake for not realizing the menu was American ahead of time... I ended up getting the only UK thing on the menu, haggis and mash. It tasted amazing and I promise I'm not squeamish but it ended up coming back up....

Was in on sat 15th September & had sharing nachos with chilli 1pulled pork &1 brisket food was very good will definitely be back

Good value for money and service, if only there were BBQ options on the Sunday menu and the bathrooms are brought out of the 90s, this place could get 5 stars.

Popped in to see the new menu which has something for everybody on it. Simple comfort food done well. Ribs seemed very popular. Kind waiters.

Haven’t visited here in a while. The new menu launched this evening and I have to admit it was really good. Family friendly atmosphere too which is rare for a pub these days. Hopefully it stays this good!

Popped in on the passing to the Fat Pheasant. Was lucky as it was the day they launched their new smoke house menu. It was fantastic! good quality and the prices matched the quality and service. The portions were American sized 😂 Nice starters, and decent main meals. It’s something different, we’ll visit again and would recommend you try it👍 I didn’t take a picture of my main meal unfortunately, but it was good! Maybe the owner will upload pictures of the new menu soon enough.

Friday lunchtime and they didn't have steak pie and had only one beefburger! That beefburger was very nice. Waitress/barmaid seemed distracted/stressed and was slow to bring menus, though she was friendly enough. Place was a bit dead so no atmosphere.

We did the tasting menu.. it was superb, the wine was fantastic and the price was even better.

Food was brilliant staff were great. They made an amazing effort for us when I mentioned it was my partners birthday when booking. I was so surprised to see they Had set up a birthday banner. The gave her a birthday card on arrival. I Thought that was a really nice touch . She also got a Lovely birthday dessert. Will definitely be back can’t recommend it enough.

Delicious food and fantastic service

Driven by this place many times and finally went in. Service was excellent as was the food. For two of us 3 courses and 5 drinks was £65. Really good value for the quality we received. Will 100% be back

Visited around 5.30 on Saturday. No roast beef left, turkey dry, roast potatoes mushy and swimming in grease, congealed mushy peas and stuffing, chewy Yorkshire pudding. Really not good enough at what I would think is peak dinner time of the weekend.

We absolutely love The Fat Pheasant. You are always given a warm welcome and the food is fantastic. There is a lovely friendly atmosphere. Staff are lovely and professional. The menu is seasonal and always absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend.

First visit today at lunchtime today, pleasantly surprised at the nice choices of food , all our courses were well presented and tasted great! The venison was perfect as was the pheasant breast. The staff were lovely ,and we hope to go back soon to try out the Sunday lunch menu which looks like another winner.

Amazing food from start to finish, waitress was very nice and waited on us hand and foot to anything we needed the pub was quite when we where there. I did think it would be busier for the food quality they are serving up but it's a bit out of the way. We will be back 100%

First experience with food in Scotland and it's really positive, good food, good service from friendly and knowledgeable waiters and a fair price.

Very quiet here so no need to book, seems to have an outdoor bit at the back but it all looked a bit unused. Inside was nice and airy, a few people on eating. Food was very well cooked and mercifully not over seasoned. Some obvious thought and skill sent into what I got, so will done to the kitchen staff. The portions were a bit small but that's how you make a profit I guess. The food all tasted nice and well done. Cheers for a nice nibble.

We were so glad we made the trip back to this restaurant/ pub. It is cute. We went there for Sunday dinner. All three of usnhad the Sunday riast. There was so much meat on the plate, you were stuffed and it didn't look like you ate any. The potatoes were crisp on the outside and fully cooked inside. The parsnips paured well with the sweet carrots. It was delicious. And we had apperizers and desert as well. The service was good. The staff was very nice. The owner was there and was even giving us ideas of what to see on the way to glasgow. Will definately go back when in the area. Best meal us Americans have had over here in the week plus we have been here. No pictures, we devoured the food.

Visited on a Sunday. Food was amazing! The venison was served with chocolate (on the side) which isn’t my vibe, but creative. The venison was delicious and roast beef was tender. The venison was 5£ upcharge even though they have a set menu on Sunday

Called in on Easter Sunday on a day out for lunch, was really impressed. Food was beautiful and reasonably priced on the set menu, staff were lovely and friendly, and the atmosphere fab! Hoping to come back very soon and sample some more from the menu. The apple crumble with Kraken rum custard was to die for 🤤

Myself, my partner & our two Jack Russells went here for lunch today. Great menu and absolutely amazing food. My partner had the braised beef cheek and I had the fish & chips. We were served by a lovely waitress called Skye who was very friendly and loves dogs so our pups also got some cuddles too 🥰 her friendly service really added to our nice experience here. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for decent food in a cosy restaurant/bar. We will 100% be back. Amy & Lee x

We were asked to join a family occasion on Sunday early evening. Unfortunately they had run out of many items on their small menu. Room for improvement!

Went here tonight and it was really nice the foods both posh and also burgers, and both done well. The decor and ambience also good, it was quiet but maybe yo be expected after Xmas. The waitress/bar manager was great all round, attentive, friendly, just what you want. Don't know what her name was but she had lovely light blue nails. Definitely will be back.

The place is very nice, in a very pleasant location near Edinburgh airport, a feasible last stop before leaving Scotland. Very close to Blackness Castle. It's a shame that at lunch time at 12.30 they no longer serve lunch if you don't have a reservation!! Fast!! If so, book.

Shame they weren't serving the lunch menu but still tried it even though it was quite pricey for lunch. Ordered the hake and fish and chips which was nice. The side of mushy peas was a thimble size for some reason which was poor value considering the price. The major let down was the desserts, first choice when tried to order we were told they don't have it so both settled for sticky toffee pudding with banana sorbet(which sounded interesting) only to be given sticky toffee with a bog standard scoop of vanilla ice-cream. We didn't want vanilla ice-cream? Why substitute without saying? Odd as this was what was listed on the cheaper lunch menu...but weren't selling this today? Highlighted this twice, once after receiving the dish (said the said didn't bother making it today) well tell us when ordering? Another member of staff when paying asked how the meal was. Highlighted this and the response we got was "yeah" great, don't ask how it was if you don't care? Still charged full price for desserts with the missing element. Benefit, very dog friendly, bring water and give treats. Might try again for Sunday lunch in future.

Sunday dinner - really lovely food but portions were on the small side - especially for a Sunday roast!! Fish and chips - good but very small fish and skinny chips - criminal - should always be chunky for fish and chips Puddings delicious … but more like children portion.. £7.50 for a glass of Prosecco … We love dining out at great places … expensive which we normally do not grudge but when your leaving feeling like you could eat something more … not great..conscious we sound like greedy humans (we are not) had saved ourselves all day for that!

Good pub food. A little plusher than a pub. Heating hadn't been on for long. Friendly staff. Surprised when I ordered an alcohol-free dark ale and it came with 4 ice cubes in. I queried this with the waitress and she said quite innocently that she thought I'd like it to be cooler.(!?). I didn't say any more.

Very pretty old fashioned pub. Wasn't too busy. Friendly staff. Unfortunately we were seeking pub food and they'd stopped serving before the advertised time (hence 4 not 5 star). Will certainly give them another chance next time I'm in the neighborhood and revise if appropriate on basis of the food. Ambiance, staff etc lovely.

Had a wonderful Birthday lunch at the Fat Pheasant today and this restaurant deserves five stars. Attentive staff, and more to the point delicious food . First visit but will certainly be the first of many.

Went here for a wee date with my wife and had an amazing meal. Wonderful little place, staff are very friendly and helpful. We had asked to change the time and were accommodated immediately. The food was amazing, great quality, lovely flavour combinations and very well presented. This I think will become a happy little haunt of ours. Can't recommend enough.

So happy we found this place! Food was delicious, staff warm and welcoming and lovely atmosphere. We had the pheasant and the venison and both were excellent. Also recommend the home made lemon meringue pie!

3 for Dinner. The food is excellent, presentation of all 3 courses was beautiful. Chef is certainly talented. Staff were also very friendly, great service. A nice quiet place that I will definitely be back to.

Ended up here by chance. Wow! Had one of best lunches ever. Food excellent and so was service. I opted for vegetarian options(usually eat meat) and was more than pleasantly surprised. Heritage carrots to start, followed by celeriac steak with tempura fennel. My husband had beef cheek and then fish and chips. Lemon meringue pie(with raspberry sorbet) and coconut Panacotta to finish. Everything was perfect. Will DEFINITELY be going back.

Somewhere else I wish we had visited sooner! If you’re like us and ever drive past the Fat Pheasant and say ‘we should try there sometime’ .. do it!! We’ve been a couple times now and the food and staff are fantastic (the friends we have taken all agree). They also have bike racks so we will definitely be putting it on our post ride stops in spring. Definitely recommend!

We had a lovely meal today. The service was quick and the waitress Skye was knowledgeable and answered the questions we had with ease. I would recommend the mac cheese. Set meal for Sunday lunch was good value and will visit again.

Absolute terrible experience on Sunday 26th September. Ended up walking out on disbelief of the staff. Took 10 minutes to order a drink. When the waitress asked what my wife what she wanted to drink she asked how do you spell pinot grigio. After a futher 20 minutes wating and getting totally ignored we left. Shocking service

2 course set menu, not worth £20 roast beef was good, pea soup? Bag of frozen peas

Was treated to lunch, and had fish n chips. The fish was good but the chips not so much. We were first in so they weren't busy. A group appeared midway through our meal and the noise of moving tables and chairs was ridiculous. Probably won't be back.

Decent food, dog friendly, service was good and handy location. Car parking could be an issue on a busy day though.. I was ok and ound a space in the near by street.

Lovely pub style restaurant with amazing food and an extensive gluten free range. Had the best battered fish I've had in years! Would recommend to everyone.
