I visited here this afternoon, the lady that owns the establishment was lovely, really attentive! It has an assortment of coffees, made to order and served in a generous sized mug, there's also several food options, fresh baked onion quiches assortment of sandwiches, toasties all made to order. A Variety of homemade cakes and sweet treats are also available, served with cream or custard at a steal of a price, I was recommended a cherry cake today and it was, warm moist and beautiful. The coffee was the best I've tasted, a lot more value for money than your usual Greggs, Starbucks or Costa coffee. I will be back as often as I can, the service, the coffee and food was unbelievable. 6*

Lovely little cafe, greeted and order taken. No problem with me eating my own gluten free snack. Like most Coeliacs I usually have something in my bag to go with a coffee but not all cafés are happy for you to eat it. Really good coffee, my husband had a delicious iced expresso cake. Said goodbye to us which was great.

A lovely small cafe in the market square run by a lovely Russian lady who has class. we had her apple cake and lemon drizzle- both were of a high standard. Although being Russian she can make a really good cappuchino as well!

The Market Square Coffee House is a little gem. It is certainly the best place in the whole of Torfaen to have proper coffee and fresh home-made cakes and pastries. Having no blaring music is a bonus. The Russian lady owner is really lovely as well as very professional. A real one-off enterprise which deserves to thrive.

Always used to stop here with my friend when we were doing errands. One of the very few coffee shops in the area that offer wheelchair access inside via a ramp and rail but there's always room outside too if you prefer that. Parking can be difficult though, there's not many spaces if you aren't within walking distance and need to park close. The coffee was always to my friend's high standards and the breakfasts are something that will always recommend. The food and drink are always reasonably priced and the ladies are always very friendly and approachable and will do everything they can to help you out and allow you to bring your own drinks in your own bottle as long as you buy something. Nice little spot that we will come back to if we are ever close enough. A local gem. Highly recommended.

We discovered this place while passing through town. It is a fascinating local Coffee House in the middle of Wales in Pontypool. It is tenderly embracing local culture and traditions as well as tastefully blending them with a slight twist of Russian cuisine, which is very touching especially because Pontypool is situated just two miles down the road from a town called Sebastopol, named after a Russian city. Russian lady owner was very welcoming and served her local customers as well as us with affectional attention and care. The Café was elegantly decorated with some Russian memorabilia and nonetheless somehow it did not feel imposing, but fit very well with the local traditional style. As any coffee house, it would serve a wide variety of coffee as well as tea and delicious home-made cakes. Overall, we were thrilled by the experience of this café and its hospitable and very friendly owner.

Being a coffee lover l have frequently drank coffee in a lot of places. But the russian cafe in Pontypool has to be one of the most places to enjoy a cracking cup of coffee. It's also served with politeness and a charming smile. I recently took a friend also a coffee lover merely to find what he thought. He was just as bowled over as l was on my first visit. One small problem was the bread pudding was actually cooking while we were there. So we went without on this occasion. Although during previous visits l have found this delicacy second to none. A return visit is a must sooner rather than later.

This tiny café had been recommended to us by a friend so we thought we would pop along to check it out. The café is quite small inside and is accessed via a slope with a handrail. There are approximately 5 tables inside with a number of tables laid out in the courtyard, very popular with smokers, though you may need to keep your coat on during the winter months as Irina, the Russian owner has to regularly open the door in order to serve customers sitting outside. We opted for home made bread pudding and and Kartoshka cake.We waited a little while as Irina had to cook a number of items for customers already there.Much nicer to have to wait a little while knowing that the food is fresly made.If you want fast food go elsewhere. Both cakes were delicious and we asked Irina how the Kartoshka was made and she took the trouble to explain to us. The food is very reasonably priced. We will certainly be returning and ,hopefully, checking out some other Russian delights.

I have been a regular at this cafe for some years - today I accidentally broke a cheap white cup and jug whilst trying to take them back in after use from outside. I could have simply walked away but was decent enough to go inside and apologise and offer to pay . The Russian owner was very rude to me and demanded ten pounds to replace some cheap white crockery - I could not believe it and whatsmore any credible business should have insurance for these things - I will never set foot in here again and willl tell my friends not to either - utterly disgraceful

We are regular visitors for coffee but on this occasion we booked afternoon tea. We were not sure what to expect but as always with Irena we received a very warm welcome and excellent food. Sandwiches were followed by two scones with jam and cream and cake, tea of your choice ( or coffee). There was more than enough food and at a reasonable price. We thoroughly recommend it.

The excellent quality of food and service is always consistent. I love coming in here after I finish work to relax with a cup of tea and one of Irina's biscuits. And when I feel I deserve a special treat I have a Kartoshka. Irina is now assisted on occasion by her friend Galina. Both ladies are delightful, long may the Market Square Coffee House continue!

Everything was delicious - onion tart, kartoshka cake and the Russian apple tart, as well as the coffee. The slight shabbiness of the place simply adds an interesting touch of bohemianism to the friendly, cheerful, intimate atmosphere of this cafe. Service is speedy and attentive, and Irina also displays posters and leaflets of the latest arts events in Pontypool. There is an additional room upstairs for when things get crowded downstairs and at the pavement tables. This place is the opposite of chain coffee shops, in a very good way!
