Mariners Chippie in West Somerset

A very tiny and pittoresk restaurant for take away. The prices are very low and the food is really delicious. The portions were really big, I came when they closed so I may have gotten all they had. No places to sit but i really recommend eating your food at the Pier.

Chips inedible and barely warm! Sausages curled up and crispy. Curry so thick and congealed that it plopped onto the plates! Contacted the business via its FB page after first getting hold of the old owners The reply from the new owners was that they do not work on a Thursday and the staff had told them they were busy!! The person who replied then blocked me! Have purchased from here previously and had horrid chips and tasteless fish so it’s not the first time. Won’t try again! May as well have thrown our money into the harbour. Clearly don’t know how to deal with a complaint!! Avoid at all costs! Nice way to treat local customers! Must bank on their customers being tourists who won’t return! Poor excuse for a business!

Shame I had high hopes, the fish was excellent but the batter was soggy, chips were like the end of a bag, bitty also soggy. The oil they were using was not hot enough to give that crispy exterior. Owners should visit The white horse Inn in Washford for object lesson in how to do it right. Hope you improve

Had fish and chips from here yesterday 19 th June,fish was ok , chips were diabolical,all bits disgusting 😡

I hardly ever write a bad review but this has to be the worst fish and chips I have ever had. The chips were soft, floppy and not crispy, the fish was horrible and the batter was disgusting. I can’t even describe the flavour. Don’t waste your money!

Grabbed some fish and chips for a seaside lunch. The chips were completely inedible, the worst I have ever had. The fish was nice but very greasy. What a waste of money.

Lovely helpful people but, unfortunately for us the food was thrown away. Brown floppy chips, not golden and crispy. Batter on fish was watery and soft. I guess chips had been re-fried because there was a few white ones in there as well.

On a visit to Watchet we were hungry and found this little jewel. The staff were all friendly, the cod and chips were delicious, beat the cod and chips we had at Clacton hands down! Free battered bits for my husband and 2 free sausages for our dog. Reasonably priced, well happy. We will see you again, maybe in a year or 2 but definitely we will be back.

Watery fish and dirty batter, peas watery, chips terrible, gravy was good.

Solid chippie experience, and a generally nice, cozy, local atmosphere, but the food was lacklustre in our experience.

Please avoid this Chip Shop. The Chips seemed like leftovers, small, black and not cooked and full of grease. As for the fish, tiny in horrible tasting batter and just as greasy as the chips. Don't normally like to leave bad reviews but I felt I had to on this occasion and find it strange how people say they loved it!!!

Proper chippy tea! Haddock freshly cooked. And gravy! Good portions at a fair price.

What a great find!! Great quality, good value for excellent portions. And what lovely people. In past years we drove to Watchet via Blue Anchor. This road now closed unfortunately due to cliff erosion, but worth making the detour back out via the main road to support this business. Definitely highly recommend!

Cocky chap on the door seemed to enjoy telling us they were closed when we arrived 15 minutes before the closing time stated in the window. Far better customer service at Watchet's other chippy at Liddymore Road though and according to the locals far better food.

Fish was disgusting, still looked frozen 😩. Gutted, didn't even give it to my dogs ☹️

Fish was undercooked and cold in the centre.. The fish looked anaemic in colour, a pastey bright yellow.. The batter was still raw and uncooked. Still flour and water paste on the inside.. I've never had such horrible fish and chips.. The curry sauce was cold and like a thick dark brown paste. Chips was luke warm and the place had just opened.. We returned and got our money back..

Excellent chippy and friendly, helpful staff. Good range of products at great prices. The mini fish supper was so tasty. Good amount of chips per portion too. Would definitely recommend.

Very nice fish and chips next to the harbour for just shy of £10. The staff were very pleasant too.

A very well run busy establishment. We didn't have to wait too long to be served. The quality of the food was excellent and freshly cooked to order. The portions were good sized & good value. It must be good if 16 people are prepared to queue outside!

Excellent fish & chips. I don't know whether it's just the experience of eating the fish & chips out of the paper on the Esplanade, but these were the best I had during the entire holiday and they were superb. The shop was busy, but staff remained very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
