Maria's Kitchen in Daventry

Recently moved to the area, and wanted to check out the local pub! I was pleasantly surprised that is it a Portuguese owned restaurant and me and my friend LOVED the food! We had the garlic prawns which just amazing ! And then lamb stew. The meat was really tender and well cooked ! Were we a little disappointed when we found out the little ports of pate wasn’t included in the couvert and were charged an extra couple of pounds ! But overall would really recommend! Thankyou will be back ☺️

Tasty food, we had the delicious lamb stew and vegetable curry. Great outdoor dining area under cover.

Restaurant really lacked atmosphere and we were waiting a very long time for the food to arrive - it turned out that one of the dishes we had ordered took 30 minutes to cook - why no note on the menu ? Food was perfectly ok when it arrived - I'm afraid Portuguese cuisine isn't my favourite.

Very nice resturant. They have a good selection of food with Meat, fish, vegetarian sections on their menu. The quality of all the dishes we've had so far have been great. We have been 3 times and the quality was consistently good. I love them Portuguese tarts too.

Amazing seafood!!! We had a mix of dishes but the seafood shines through! Especially the prawns and octopus - fabulous! Cosy pub side set in beautiful village of Newnham in the village pub.

Lovely pub with a twist of Portuguese food , food was ok the mix meat grill was abit too dry , prawns were nice , quite on the pricy side.

Really good, authentic, Portugese home-cooked food in a friendly family run pub. There is a wait as it is all freshly cooked, but everything arrived piping hot and delicious - apart from the salads ;-) Recommend the chorizo or pasty starters, the seafood main course dishes and the scrumptiously light desserts. The chicken piri piri is also very good.

I recently dined at Maria's Kitchen, and the experience was delightful. The restaurant exudes a warm and cosy atmosphere. The food, particularly the Seafood Rice, was absolutely fabulous—each bite was truly finger-licking good. A must-try for anyone seeking a delightful dining experience❤️

Beautiful food as always. I've visited with a couple of friends on Thursday lunchtime and we all really enjoyed our meals. Everything is cooked from scratch so there is always a wait but it's well worth it. The food taste delicious and authentic.

Absolutely abysmal food in a depressing location. How this place can have a 4.7 rating on Google is simply incredulous. Never eaten such an awful steak ever. Onion rings straight out of Iceland.

The food was good, but the service was awful.. there was no complaints about food because as it was delicious.. About the service, they never came to our table to ask if we need anything else, we always tried to get their attention, they didn’t ask for second drink, desert or coffee and I felt left out compared with other costumer’s.. In conclusion I will not come back because of the experience I had nor I would recommend this place

We were staying over for one night in a nearby village and visited Maria's on a whim on the hunt for food. We were so very happy we did! The food was lovely, the service was fantastic and every single member of staff we interacted with was so friendly and attentive. The portions were excellent, we even ended up taking home some leftovers and grabbing so desserts to go (which are absolutely not to be missed!). If we ever find ourselves in the area again we will be back for sure ✨

Had a great octopus dish, but the prawns could have been a little more flavoursome. The service was second to none!!! Very attentive front of house staff member. The plants were beautiful to look at within the conservatory.

Been here a few times, food has consistently tasted amazing and the portion sizes are pretty nice. I really like their soup starter and calamari starter. The steak with beer sauce is delicious as well as the peri-peri chicken, although the peri-peri chicken sauce may be a little salty for some people. But as someone with a sweet tooth my favourite part of the restaurant is the desserts, with my favourite probably being the house dessert. I've also tried their biscuit cake, meringue and Portuguese egg custard tart desserts, all of which taste really balanced, creamy and smooth. The atmosphere is pretty nice and the conservatory has some beautiful plants. The staff are really friendly and very approachable. One of the best places around Daventry for sure, a true gem!

Very friendly service, and the food was absolutely delicious. My sister had the spicy prawn linguine and I had the creamy baked cod, which were both fab! The cod was layered with potato in the dish. When I return for a visit, I will definitely order it again.

Max the bar beagle is an absolute legend.

It's OK just to grab a bit to eat but some bits was a bit pricey

FANTASTIC!!! Lovely atmosphere and extremely home cooked, very tasty food. The prices were good and when the helping came, it was enough to feed 2 people. Would highly recommend. Lovely drive out there away from the hustle and bustle. Pity that it was raining when we went so could not go for a lovely walk afterwards!

Great spot, delicious food of authentic Portuguese dishes

As a Portuguese, it’s really hard to find true Portuguese food made with great quality ingredients in the U.K. Lucky, a couple of months ago I visited Maria’s Kitchen for lunch. It was life changing. The place is very welcoming, very cozy. The people are really nice and helpful. But the food. Oh my! The food is tasty, well cooked, well seasoned, well served. It’s like being in Portugal (actually, I’ve had worse Portuguese food in Portugal). The seafood rice is a piece of heaven! It’s my second time and I’ll definitely be coming back!

We got there at 12 on a sunday ,the owner received us incredibly bad because we were not part of a group reservation, we were only 4 people and he was panicking because he was alone and he had to serve everyone alone ,than he started saying that we needed a reservation and not to show up again without one ,i did told him that i look online and i saw nothing about having to make a reservation and he replied that he can't add that to the site online it look bad. He was rude to the point we end up deciding to leave... Honestly the worst experience i ever had and never going back there. Ive been in the old one and this one a few times even Christmas events there and to the owner to speak to people the way he did is unforgivable...

Beautiful food… I had Bacalhau com natas and it was better than in Portugal itself. Good size portions and nice kids food too! Drove 45 minutes for lunch but was definitely worth it! Will be booking again soon! Thank you

This is an excellent place to have a very good quality and well prepared meal. It is about 40 miles for me to travel there.. Now after five times, I am planning my sixth! The pub itself, is very pleasant for a quiet drink and Newnham is a lovely village to visit. Daphne

Nice place, good food. Only thing I'd say is that the starter (which was great) was a little on the large side, and I struggled to finish it, and the mains was large as well, not a complaint, just need to be really hungry to eat both!

Really like this place. Home cooked food, no rush, great place for fish if that's what you like. Mixed meat Kebab is lovely and filling. Been a few times now and plan to keep going.
