Why is this on the site ? We went a few times to this lovely, tiny restaurant with excellent food, some of the best we’ve had in London, Sadly now closed ???

My experience at Marianne's restaurant was very memorable, it was the highlight of my trip to London to meet a friend and lunch together. I was able to enjoy my absolute favourite and I now know, one of the specialities of this delightful restaurant, a cheese soufflé, it was superb. The food was beautifully prepared, well balanced and went well with a great bottle of Rose, sadly I can't remember the name of it, I kept it on a bit of paper but as ever it was a moment in time, now passed but I hope to relive it again as soon as I can. All this is packed into a petit space, although there are only 14 covers, I think its 14, there still seems to be enough space to feel private at one's table. I work in a small office and so understand that it is sometimes a challenge but here it is carried off well. Marianne's is an intimate affair and in my view all the more charming for that!

I’ve recently enjoyed my 6th visit to Marianne - and it never fails to delight! As always the menu was imaginative and delicious, the wine very more-ish. The amuse bouche set the tone of the incredible taste sensations to come, but my sweet tooth has to report that the soufflé was the crowning glory. Unbelievably scrumptious! The service is second to none and you always feel you’ve had a real treat on a very special occasion. The atmosphere is so relaxed, but rarified. You just know you’re going to have the most wonderful time. The icing on the cake is seeing Marianne, who will always take the time to chat to her diners, making us feel extra special.

This is a wonderful little restaurant. Very stylish and understated luxury interior. It discretly ouses appeal. Quite intimate with under 20 covers, it would ideal for a private lunch or dinner party for a significant birthday or anniversary. - costs would make It prohibitive for any other, for most people! Talking of pricing, its rather high, even in the famed Notting Hill area. Tasting menus with numerous courses but tiny portions. Dishes is expertly and creatively put together but most courses are 'just a taste'. Service was very good and staff were customer focused but the ratio of staff to customer is the highest I have ever known In the hospitality industry and must come at a price too. Look at a spend of around £200 pp. It is a wonderful dining experience but with a restaurant so bijoux, your experience is very much determined by who else is dining there.

We went to Marianne for lunch and thought it extremely good. However I will start on the few negatives as I want to end on a high. We chose the lunch tasting menu which was good but we were surprised as I felt it was a little imbalanced as no meat course was offered. We were told we could change to something from the expensive deluxe menu and substituted the fish for the meat the Muntjac. However this carried a supplement of £15. That wasn’t the issue but the portion served was ridiculous for the money - I could only describe the portion as 4 shavings of deer, absolutely minute albeit delicious. The wines are also fairly expensive. However now onto the main review. The food served was delicious, the service especially by Barratt was amazing, attentive but unobtrusive. The restaurant is cute with 6 small tables and is lovely and intimate. The kitchen ( which we went into) was small with a fair few chefs but it was so clean and they worked meticulously. Marianne was not there. Everything served was tasty but the outstanding dish for me was the soufflé which was fantastic. I would definitely recommend a visit but please offer a better portion of meat.

Was here for a business lunch and was served with lobsters, probably a signature dish of here(most people were having it). Marianne is really a nice, cosy small restaurant - only 14 seats. Service is excellent and the pace of the various courses is perfect. The food has highs and lows: most dishes were very good but we found our mains not adequate to the ambition of a restaurant that charges over 125£ a person. Especially the mullet, but also the lobster with white truffle - both left us underwhelmed. Soufflé is really good.

This restaurant was a perfect venue for 15 of us to celebrate an important birthday. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and although some of our group were a little late due to transport issues, this was not a problem. As the restaurant only accommodates 15, we were the only diners. All of the food was beautifully presented and delicious, with some quite unusual flavours used, including truffles. Two of us are vegetarian and we were impressed with the way we were catered for, with equally interesting and tasty food as the others had. Definitely to be recommended for a special occasion.

From the surprising truffled popcorn, through the tastebud enlivening pumpkin soup with duck egg and bacon (don't miss it), the spectacular tricolour thick foam, to the delightful petit fours our meal was pure pleasure, enlivened by a wonderful sommelier and his wine selection which had us wandering from Eastern Europe to the far west through the most eclectic of smaller vineyards. Costly but not expensive for the scale of the experience. Our meal was beautifully paced, but took 3 hours which seemed to flash by. The chefs have created a wonder here and don't be tricked into thinking you will get what is on the webpage, the innovation seems to go on. This was our 28th anniversary and we would strongly recommend this as a place for culinary celebration. But this bread was outstandig. Wish I could have a slice right now... Anyway we would love to come again for dinner when in London. It is quite expensive and as we had another pudding than in the lunch menu mentioned - the waiter recommended it and I did not realize that it would be an extra charge (must be my English) - our lunch bill was on the hefty side. I would recommend this restaurant because the meal was outstanding. Seasonal ingredients and very accomplished cooking. In particular, the beef really was "melt in the mouth". We booked our table in this restaurant based on all the positive reviews and media coverage it has received. It is a small/intimate setting, where two very helpful waiters are willing to give you a nice evening. This is no rocket science; with only 12 guests in the restaurant it should be easy to give you enough attention. We had two different menu's, a deluxe and a tasting menu, accompanied by a wine arrangement. The first three courses where served within the first 50 minutes and we had to ask to bring down the tempo. The amuse was a "cappuccino" (foam) of tomato with cheese. An amuse should wake the taste buds, but this wasn't the case. It was very flat of taste, no sweet/sour/crunch or what so ever. And in fact that was the trend for all the other courses of the evening too. Don't expect anything exiting or rare for your taste buds. Ok, the first course was a very well prepared and tasteful truffle pasta, but is it really hard to prepare a simple truffle pasta? The two main courses, fish & lamb, both were accompanied by the same carrot cream, or at least the creams had the same texture and caramel taste. While foam and green dressing were a recurring ingredient during the evening too. The joke of the evening was the grilled cheese sandwich. I think it has been the most expensive grilled cheese sandwich I ever had and it was nothing more than that, just a cheddar cheese sandwich. For a 5th course not the lightest dish of the evening too. A compliment for the wine arrangement and the wine knowledge of the waiter though. All spice/wine combinations were spot on and not the most obvious choices. All dishes were well prepared, but could have been made at home too. We were not a single moment blown away by the meal/preparations and ingredients. Unfortunately the bill had this effect on us. The price/quality ratio is ridiculous and overpriced. If you want to spent £500 on an exiting evening, I would suggest to book a 1* or 2** Michelin restaurant in London. If you don't like challenges and just want a mediocre evening in an intimate setting, this could be the restaurant for you.

Not at all cheap but worth every penny. The food was all outstanding. I elected to swap an artichoke dish for some truffle linguine. When the artichoke arrived I was dismayed, but they apologised, told me to try the artichoke while I waited for my linguine. Both were wonderful. Bonus! The pace of the meal is slow so expect to spend hours there. But at no point were you left waiting. The pace was perfect. There are three menus from which to select - no a la carte. However, you do not regret this. The size of the portions is restrained and this allows you to enjoy each course without feeling as if you are eating too much. Wow , this felt like dinner in your living room but all the style and panache of a Michelin Starred experience, The intimacy of the surroundings led to a superb dining experience build by a great combination of food and service. Loved the fact you could mix and match from the different menus and the Sommelier had real class and didn't try and upsell you at every moment. Hard to pick out the highlights as everything was top drawer, never been a fan of foam ( sort of ok in the bath but not on your dinner plate) but the celeriac foam was the best I have ever tasted . The room itself is small with seating for a total of 14 so it is an intimate setting. The service was impeccable not obsequious or fawning but just right. We went for the five course tasting menu we were given a bowl of truffle flavoured popcorn which was delicious particularly with a glass of chilled Manzanilla. We chose Stellenbosch as the wine for our other courses. Each that came up was like a mini work of art the cured salmon was particularly good as was the charolais beef .It finished with a plate of petit fours which were exquisite. At the end of the meal we were introduced to Marianne Lumb which was very interesting .All in all a fantastic experience which I look forward to repeating .

I found out about this restaurant through the very positive reviews on Trip Advisor. My wife and I are very familiar with fine dining and the price point that comes along with it, so this in itself is not an issue. From a food value perspective, we really felt that the gastronomic experience was below our expectations from quality perspective and the sequence of the menu, we also felt that there was an element of overdoing it for some of the dishes which did not make it up for less than excellent ingredients and lack of imagination. The souffle was the outstanding item but you will have to wait for desert for that. Bottom line, London's fine dining scene has much better offerings at comparable price point. I do not write a lot of reviews but the more I read about positive reviews for this restaurant the more I felt that it was important for me to provide this perspective.

It isn't cheap but they have to keep a restaurant going with only fourteen covers and the service is impeccable, friendly and never intrusive. The tasting menu was a well balanced meal. A question. Turbot seems to be flavourless. It was rescued here by a fine sauce. This fish was poached in celeriac with fennel and a black quinoa beurre noisette. Could it be that farmed turbot has taken over from wild fish which had more flavour? Charolais beef was braised in tamarin and spices, it was special. We had a soufflé of macadamia nuts, honeymoon melon sorbet and raspberry purée.They offer matching wine. We settled for a glass of amazing Turkish white and an equally good red from Portugal. Even without Marianne in the kitchen this was a memorable meal. They even decorated our petit fours plate with the words happy anniversary. Nothing is too much trouble.

This is a small and intimate restaurant that serves only tasting menus. The food is quite exceptional and the courses very well selected to offer a wonderful range of tastes and flavours. The service is first class and the tables are not 'turned' so time is not important. There is a vegetarian tasting menu on offer, which my daughter appreciated and which was equally good.

Don't think I need to write a lot about this place. Went there for a evening meal and it was simply excellent. Despite I think it is pricey you don't regret paying when the food is so good. Lovely charming staff but it is all about food. Loved it!!

The booking process was wonderful thanks Claire and then from the greeting at the door to the petit fours there was total perfection. The staff and food made you feel very special and the wine list was wonderful. An excellent pairing between the manager and the kitchen and the drum beat service was best in class. The food was exceptional and one of the best menus I have tasted in the last year.Well done everyone for making two ladies birthdays so memorable ....

Small gem (just 6 tables) with great food and a good wine list. Very friendly service which is not intrusive. Slightly on the expensive side but understandable given the size of the restaurant.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Marianne. It is a small restaurant with only a few tables. That means you have to make a booking ahead of time. But it is worthwhile. The dinner, a tasting menu with 6 courses at 85 pounds, was extraordinary. The Souffle of grue de cacao was the best souffle I had ever had. And ice-cream is home-made, with Pacojet. What else can you wish for?

This restaurant should be on a list of every foodie. The food and presentation here are fantastic. We were here for a Sunday dinner, the dining room is not huge, but there was one vacant table still ( just to let you know that maybe Sundays are less busy , so you might still try to book a table on a short notice). Marianne herself was not there, but that does not mean that the food was not top notch, as it definitely was. Starters, amuse Bouche, main, dessert, wine ... everything was fantastic. Especially cheese and soufflé....Definitely enjoyed it and will try to get back. Would definitely recommend it!

You would never know what a treat you were in for from the outside of this unassuming restaurant in a residential street. Once through the doors of this 14 seat shop front, nothing is too much trouble for the knowledgeable waiters or the chefs. We were even able to modify the fixed menus to suit ourselves and there is a vegetarian tasting menu for those who want this. The different "fixed" menus can be mixed too. Each course looks small, but is beautifully presented and each subtle flavour adds up to a delicious whole. Saucing is carefully balanced and complements rather than drowns the food. By the end of the meal, you will be full up as the style is definitely not just "art on a plate". Since every dish and amuse bouche offers a different experience, you are given sufficient time to enjoy them and service is unobtrusive and attentive. Wines are available by the glass, bottle or as part of a pairing with the food, and are at the top of anyone's price range. As you would expect for a restaurant of this calibre, the meal is expensive but worth it, especially if you have something to celebrate. Booking ahead is essential.

A business colleague took me here to discuss some business but also for us to catch up as we had not seen each other for a while. This restaurant was an ideal choice - only has small amount of covers, & is set in a nice cosy building, (almost looks like a shop), and was a nice place to deal with the business but also be able to relax and discover what each other has been doing over the past few years.Service was very good, just enough attention to look after you, but not overbearing as I have experienced in some places. I think they knew we had things to talk about.Food was very good, well presented & great tastes. Accompanying wine, as recommended by the staff, was excellent. Now I know Marianne is here, I will be returning with my partner.

A Book Dealer, took me here once. It was likeDining in someone's home. Really IntimateWe discussed books. I brought up WinnieThe Pooh which originally was published in Latin. My Dad read it to me every night at the age of 4. It was our special time together. We bonded. My Dad was a very Busy man with no patience, but he had a great sense of humor and Winnie the PoohWas the funniest book ever written in English and probably the most sophisticated book ever done in the 20thCentury. The illustrations can't be beat.I love the United Kingdom because of it!The Royal Literary Fund, whom I hold in high esteem, published this book in 1958, four years after I was born.Notting Hill is An area of London that was even nicer before it was renovated and got expensive.Worth having dinner here, marvelous place

We celebrated my partner's birthday here one Saturday lunch. The restaurant has only 14 covers - one table of 6, one of 4 and 2 couples - and whilst the tables are well spaced out it does really feel like a private intimate dining experience. The reservation process was very straightforward with excellent communication by email. The dining room resembles a discrete store front decorated in pastel colours with curtains occluding the lower windows and entrance door with soft lighting and relaxing background music. It was great to have a view through the small shallow window and across the narrow pass into the compact kitchen. Marianne was present throughout service leading her brigade with her customary calm efficiency. We enjoyed the deluxe tasting menu with the sommelier led wine flight. Each and every dish was outstanding - executed to perfection, stunning presentation with a depth and balance of flavours. Our favourites included the Scottish langoustines with white asparagus and the loin and shoulder of Rhug estate lamb with broad beans, peas, morels and mint oil. The lamb was accompanied by a tiny copper saucepan containing a mini shepherd's pie made from the shoulder which was delicious. Overall all of the dishes represent quiet, good food taste made from premium ingredients. The tasting menu was a truly lavish meal - rich and indulgent whilst leaving us pleasantly satisfied. The service throughout provided by 2 Maitre d' was super efficient, convivial and friendly whilst extremely professional. The introduction to each wine was extremely comprehensive and delivered with such knowledge and depth of information that it felt as though you were at a tutored wine tasting. We took up the invitation to meet the kitchen brigade at the end of the meal and found it difficult to find enough superlatives to describe and compliment them on what was such an amazing tasting menu. Thank you Marianne for an outstanding experience and for making my partner's birthday so special - we will undoubtedly be back!

Me and my wife had the weekend in London and booked a lunch seating at Marianne after seeing the other positive reviews at TripAdvisor. We had the 5 course vegetable menu mixed with some seafood courses. We also did the wine pairing that came with the menu. All the dishes looked and tasted amazing and the wine pairings were some of the best I've experienced. They hit a floral note with one of the wines that just perfectly matched the taste of the dish. The restaurant can only seat 12 people so the experience here is very intimate. This could maybe be both a pro and a con but at our seating we only had 3 other people doing lunch so we had more than enough space for ourselves.I would really recommend taking a lunch here on a romantic weekend in London. Walk through Notting Hill, stop at a pub for a drink and then lunch at Marianne... Can't be more movie esque than that. Superb food, great wine pairing and excellent service.

Overall a really good experience but with a few flaws than could easily be ironed out. Firstly, virtually no choice of non alcoholic drinks, no fruit juice which seems rather bizarre. Choice was tonic, lemonade , coke. Second ..... PUT THE HEATING ON. I was so cold that in the end all I could think about was sitting on the heated seats in my car. How odd, all that work and attention to detail and it feels like you are sitting outside. Service ------ really good front of house Menus...... dont think deluxe is worth paying extra foreFood..... some fantastic courses esp souffle and fish but scallop dish was taste less and the cheese sandwich on deluxe menu ridiculously big, could come come from a builder's lunch box, what were they thinking? Would definitely recommend to friends who live nearby but only on barmy evenings

We had this planned for a couple of months and travelled from Manchester. We were not disappointed - the room is small and intimate and the service attentive. But the star is the cooking, from the truffled popcorn amuse bouche to the carrot cake soufflé with butterscotch sauce, all was delicious and beautifully balanced. The wine list offered some unusual accompaniments which complemented the meal very well.Top end cooking which made for a delightful celebration.8

A great dining experience is never just about the food, wine or service. For it to be special all of these need to be in harmony with each other and there needs to be the extra dimension that elevates a good meal into greatness. Marianne's managed to align all the stars to provide a really great experience. It is the subtle things that are unique to this place that help. Its tiny so it has a unique atmosphere. The service feels more personal than normal and the kitchen feels like it is only cooking for you. The price tag is relatively punchy however it never feels like you are not getting value. Like many other fine dining restaurants the food is great, but in this environment it feels special. The wine selection is well considered and opens you up to choices you would not make on your own.Really cool place and well worth a visit if you can plan ahead

Made the mistake of going into a cafe where there were no other customers. I think I now know why. Visited the premises in the Square. Latte and croissant, paid immediately by card, lukewarm coffee, stale croissant then on leaving was accused of not paying. They made a check of their records and voila, it seems I had. Quite embarrassing and won’t be back.
