Mare Street Market in Hackney

Met a large group of friends here for Sunday brunch to mark a special occasion. We had reserved tables and arrived at different times but service was prompt and attentive to make sure that everyone was served as they arrived. Food was good and reasonably priced and a special 5* shout out to Maria who looked after us throughout.

Called in here for a quick bite to eat and were surprised to get a full sized pizza for only £9. What great value. The staff were lovely and very friendly and the service was excellent.

Extras should be highlighted more when ordering from the servers . My husband had the lentil shepherds pie however he didn’t realise that it was topped with sweet potato which he hates . ( his fault as it was clearly visible on the hot counter) I then decided to eat it and he ordered the Nash goreng from the waitress . She said would you like prawns or chicken ? So he said prawns . I was then rather shocked that this was an extra charge. I have eaten this fish all over the world and both chicken and prawns are standard for the dish . So at a rather expensive £21.38 inch service turned into an expensive lunch . I must say the food was very good just pricing needs to be more transparent.

i've been to MSM a few times and 9/10 the service at the bar is awful.Staff look disinterested and ignore you for as long as they can,it's almost like they're hoping you walk away so they don't have to serve you. the building is beautiful Staff at the coffee counter are nice Pizza is really nice but the bar staff really let the place down

Mare Street Market at Coal Drop Yard. What a flipping gorgeous place! Lovely food, very lovely, chatty staff and excellent service! Even more - what a great location! I love the building and the whole model of collaboration between the food offer and the lovely neighbouring shops (plants, lighting etc). Everything about this place is modelling good practice. The staff are clearly proud of this venue - and rightly so! A gem!

Me and my friends on a holiday from Australia went here for some drinks. Heard it was the best place in town. Service was terrible. My wife and her friends lined up for 30 minutes at the bar and the bartenders would not acknowledge them or serve them as they had singled out other people to serve behind them and around them. We had to leave as we couldn’t even be served for a drink.

Poor, poor, poor service. Just had drinks before heading off to Taylor Swift, waited ages to get served. When we did took ages to get drinks and waved frantically at the waiters for service and the bill. Must try harder. Just wasn’t great experience and put us off from returning.

Ambling around Coal Drops Yard & looking for something light to eat for lunch, we stumbled upon this place! We were not disappointed! Lots of attentive & friendly staff, nice menu, good drinks & the best pizza I’ve had in ages! Great atmostphere to boot!

I had been recommended Mare Street from the original restaurant - our experience wasn’t great. No staff around on a busy Thursday evening, no organisation, very poor service. We had to wait absolute ages for someone to serve us, the staff kept bringing wrong drinks / food to tables (not just us but everyone around us), the food was mediocre at best, it was barely warm, and also came at different times. Needs a vast improvement!

Chanced upon this place and thought I’d go in to see what they had at the deli/wine at the front. Tried to buy something and was ignored so went to the bar and thought I might as well have a drink. After being ignored by the waitress, she decided to serve the people nearest her rather than who was next, she served me with a sort of dead look in her eyes and no hello. Never mind. Asked her a question on what was available, didn’t know. So I quickly ordered and turns out I got a wine I didn’t ask for. I suppose I should jump for joy as she gave me the cheaper option. Saved 2 quid? By the way, being mid afternoon the joint was fairly empty. So go outside to look for a table to relax. Most tables had empty plates etc whether they were occupied or not. I sat at one full of dirty dishes. Slowly drank my wine while checking the reviews. Sadly I have to agree with most negative comments. Finally after about half an hour a member of the kitchen staff came and cleared one table near me, not mine, I assume they were short of crockery. The bar staff didn’t do any clearing. So, pleasant looking place in a beer barn kind of way, funky looking joint. BUT like the reviews say, the bar staff are totally disinterested. Comes from the top, who knows? Puts a real downer on the experience. Unlikely to return and try the food. The trouble with bad service is you don’t know what else they’re doing with your food and drinks when your attention is elsewhere.

Great atmosphere sitting outside in the sunshine. I was the oldest person there by far and one of the few not using a laptop, but they let me in anyway. Cheeseburger was fantastic. Banana split was wonderful. Nice choice of beers too. Pizzas looked amazing will definitely go back for one of those. Staff friendly and professional.

We were given two incorrect orders and when we tried to query this, two waiters told us they would follow it up with the kitchen and did not do this and left us waiting until we asked a third waiter. Then, when the correct order came a waiter told us we had 7mins to move tables before the next guests arrived. We were not told we only had the table for a set time when we first sat down. In total, we were only here for 45 mins before being asked to move. To add insult to injury they tried to charge us for the incorrect order and the replacement food.
