Manzo in County Durham

Restaurant is closed, we booked tonight for 2 people 1900hrs 13/09/24. Got confirmation email, but when we arrived it is locked up with nothing on the shelf’s anymore.

Great food, nice decor, friendly staff and good value too.

As per usual. This place was fantastic. Our Host was great. Our server was great. Best of all, had a chat with our Chef, who had clearly had a busy day. His words “steak was great, because the Chef loves Steak” Fact, this is why the tip was so high. You guys put the NE on the map. Mr Singh

My steak was ok for the price. The seasonal veg was delicious. Unfortunately my friend was disappointed with her lasagne. She thought it should be renamed as didn't look or taste like lasagne. Large chunks of meat rather than mince and no layers of pasta and sauce.

Had a fillet steak which was a little overcooked (more “medium well” rather than “medium rare”, don’t know if the waitress misheard me) but it tasted so good, and was so tender it didn’t spoil the meat at all. The mustard cream sauce I had with it was gorgeous. Would definitely come again.

Called in last night for a family meal and the steak was outstanding looking forward to coming back and yes I got a sharer plate and nope I didn’t share 😉

Waited an hour and a half just for starters ,which was surposed to be froccia ,but was not it was thick toasted bread .then waited for main which was a very fattie shortrib and by fattie i mean very fattie very little meat on it ,two very small bits of broccoli which wre not purple sprouting broccoli as advertised and a small round of sweet potato .The main £26 for very little .the only good thing was the lovely you lady who served us .would i go again no ,would i recormmend manzo to anyone No .

Beautiful meal. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Starters were lovely (belly pork particularly good). For main we had ribeyes. They both had a great sear and were cooked to perfection. The only negative was the wait for our starters. Waited around 40 minutes after ordering. That said we'll definitely be back

Can only assume the good reviews are friends of the restaurant. What we experienced was horrendous. Management had no idea where people were sitting so were moving everyone around. We waited 10 minutes before we even had a drink menu, once ordered we had to wait an hour and a half for the food, at no point did anyone come over to get more drinks. The food when delivered was average, presented well, very small portions, not hot but Luke warm. They haven't even changed the old pub layout, just painted it and stuck a few tables in. Absolutely horrendous experience, we tried it. Chalked down as bad experience, will never go there again. Terrible. Looking around everyone in there was waiting for food and service so was not just us, really not a good experience at all.

Absolutely blown away by the quality of food and atmosphere. Can't be a better restaurant in bishop Auckland currently 11/10.

Absolutely loved it here! First time I have ever been and wow, what an atmosphere! All staff made us feel welcome, even the owner came over for a chat and a laugh with us. 2 cocktails for £10.. how could we resist. They were soo nice too! I went for the chicken & chorizo, yum! Came well presented and tasted divine. This is definitely a place I will be recommending for future reference and we will be returning for them stand up comedy nights! Thank you all so much.

What a fantastic find this was! Superb service from the moment we walked through the door and the food was fabulous, topped off with great wine and cocktails. Atmosphere was fantastic, couldnt have wished for a better evening. Thoroughly recommend and we will be returning.

Great first time at Manzo - I hadn't realised there were high seats so hadn't requested a low table in the booking (one of our party has knee problems so struggles with higher chairs and steps) and even though very busy, the manager was able to move us pretty quickly. Food was fantastic and I think we tried every cocktail on the menu between us which were all beautiful. Thank you, will be back :)

We visited this place for the first time today and we will definitely be back. We only had drinks on this occasion so we can't comment on the food, having said that it looks amazing which is the reason we will be coming back. We also found the staff to be really nice and helpful when we were asking them for recommendations on places nearby

Having eaten at Manzo since it opened, I find the steaks are not the same quality now.

Fantastic service and buitifull prepared food. Al little over priced but it was well worth it. We are definitely going again and would also recommend to others.

Dined at Manzos last night, opted for Prawns Pil Pil which was delicious especially the bread, garlic mushrooms which were nice. We both went for filet steak for main, one rare and one medium rare, both cooked to perfection in my opinion. We went for Peppercorn and creamy garlic sauce to accompany them and the fat chips. Both of the sauces were outstanding and the chips light and crispy. Overall a very good experience at Manzos, and if the lady who I assume is the manger / owner is reading this we made it to Kynren on time but thank you for offering us a lift down, fantastic customer service 😁. Would definitely visit again.

Hands down the best place to eat in all of bishop Auckland!. Food is undoubtedly some of the best I have ever eaten. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the customer service from the staff is some of the best! Definitely worth a visit.

Came up North to see our daughter . Didn’t realise there were establishments of this superior quality in this neck of the woods😂 calling this a steak house is an understatement. This is a very very good restaurant . Really good varied menu and a lovely ambiance with staff actually wanting to interact and serve you . Bev really made us feel welcome and the chef also deserves a big up . We were a party of four and our varied choices turned up on time and tasted great and piping hot too . Excellent choice of drinks and cocktails at very reasonable prices . We expected the usual warm northern welcome but were also amazed by both the ambiance and service and food . Cannot rate high enough👍

My family and I are still in the restaurant as I couldn't wait to give a review, the quality of the food was excellent, we had one of each of the starters and shared them between us and order a platter for x2 and rib eye steaks, I'm very fussy about steak when I eat out but have to say every dish that came out was cooked to perfection, every steak was perfect, the service staff were professional and attentive, food reasonably priced and the quality far exceeded the price. I shall certainly be recommending you, thank you for such a beautiful meal, we will be back in the future!

Some might say a bit pricey, but lovely steaks and something just a bit different. Beer also great.

Had dinner here before going to Kynren. The mains were very tasty and the staff were very friendly. Just a shame the main took so long to come out as it meant we ran out of time for dessert and they looked particularly good.

I love the place, the portions are fit for someone who is very hungry. I had the broccoli and salmon pasta, which very nice, but filling

Fantastic sharing steak platter. Couldn't fault the food or service. Live music was on and made a change to have live music that wasn't overpowering the venue.

From start to finish this was truly the best food and service we have experienced for a very long time. The homemade bread and olives, the mushroom starters and the lamb main course were all so amazing we went the following night for the steak night. Cooked to perfection. The kindness from the staff was amazing, so grateful how attentive they were. The only negative thing is we live so far away we can't visit every week!!!

Excellent night, there were 16 of us and all of us got served at the same time with amazing food. Staff were very attentive and professional throughout our meal.

Great food and ambience, friendly and knowledgable staff. Worth a visit if in area. We had rustic focaccia starter, mains, rack of lamb and chicken supreme, both tender meat with delicious sauces, and lemon tart / chocolate brownie & salted caramel desserts, the brownie was sooo nice and chocolatey, great with some added caramel ice cream 😋. Today, we dropped by for lunch. The food was excellent, and the service was wonderful. We were with our two young children, and one of the ladies from the restaurant took care of them so that we could enjoy our meal in peace, for which we are very grateful. I wholeheartedly recommend it! Hopefully, we'll have the chance to visit you again someday :)

Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. Food was good but a bit slow however it was packed so not surprising. Live music was a bit too loud for our liking but a nice touch. Certainly would visit again if we are in the area.

Eaten here twice now. Generally the food is lovely. The last time we were there though, there were not enough wait staff, those that were there were run off their feet. One meal was forgotten and then we had to send it back but this was replaced with a well cooked meal… rather too late though.

Nice place to go for a relaxing meal. The service was good considering that there were 13 of us. I think the quality of food suffered due to the number of people. Personally my food was lovely I would definitely go back

This is the second time we've been to Manzo's, it is simply sensational. I can say without any reservations that they do the best steaks anywhere! So tender they can be cut with a spoon.

Very slow service with no explanation. Spoiled the evening out because the food was good when it finally arrived.

Very disappointing rump steak. I requested mine cooked rare, but it was well done. In fairness, when I complained, this was quickly swapped for one which WAS rare. My father had a burger, which he said was tasteless, and one of the worst he'd ever had. The whole meal was not inexpensive either.

This is best described as a 'come back again' restaurant. There is such a selection on the menu and the way you are treated from when you arrive until you depart, makes the whole evening exceptional.

Food was ok. Staff pleasant, but seriously poor service, over an hour after each course! Rowdy customers that spoilt the atmosphere, which staff failed to do anything about. Really wouldn't recommend.

So i have now dined at Manzo’s 4 times over the last roughly 4 months so i think i have a pretty good idea of what it’s like. So food wise has been different every time sadly not sure quite how they managed this the menu hasn’t changed but chef turnover may have ?? any way we have ordered the same dishes roughly between 4 of us and each time has been quite different and sadly i’d say gradually gotten worse. The food is average at a push if am honest and is very expensive for what you get there are far better local Italian restaurants for the money. On one occasion we had to wait 90 minutes for our food and then 3 of our orders were wrong in some fashion we were offered replacements but due to the wait times we just ate what came how ever after a few words with the bar manger we did get free drinks at a push. The drinks menu is also very poor if you like cocktails and badly made expensive ones at that again unfortunately. saying It’s a nice place to eat the decor is very nice and so is the atmosphere as long as you can get a normal height table….half the tables in the restaurant are high chairs ?? very unusual and uncomfortable quite a questionable choice given the variety of people that dine there. Over all is say try it for yourself but in my experience for the money sadly it’s just no we’re near as nice as other places.

The space was cute and cozy, the service was very friendly and casual but the food is for people that would appreciate a finer pallet; others with me said their food was amazing though.

Beautiful steak and seafood pizza absolutely fantastic

Really wanted to try and eat here and enjoy what they had to offer. Only to be sat on the phone trying to get through. Rang multiple times over the space of an hour and a half with no answer so gave in and went somewhere else unfortunately.

Worst management skills I've ever come across in the restaurant business. Table for 10 booked in for 7:30pm, got seated straight away and ordered 1st round of drinks, placed food order approximately 7:50pm, food was not served until 9:05pm. After the meals were being brought to our table the waitress came back over realising that one customer had no food, she apologised and said sorry yours will be out in 2 minutes. A few minutes later she came back to the table with a garlic bread and placed that in front of him, he explained that was not his main meal that was just a side for people to share. Again she apologised and went back to the kitchen, when she returned she said sorry your order has not been cooked would you like the chef to start it now, as most of the other people on the table had finished there meals he said no just make sure its not on the bill. One of our group was drunk and getting loud about the fact 1 of our friends had not had any food whatsoever the waitress who looked only maybe 18 was left to try and sort the situation out for close to 10 minutes while the manager or maybe owner stayed well away from us and never came over to apologise until one of our party went over to him and asked him to come to our table and sort the problem out. His solution was to cook him his £25 steak and he could take it away in a pizza box, all it would have taken is if the manager had came straight over to our table and offered to make things right instead of hiding at the other side of the restaurant and leaving a very young waitress to deal with it, disgusting behaviour for a so called manager. Really spoiled our Christmas night out.

Absolutely delicious food, was well and truly stuffed afterwards. My wife had the king prawns which were amazing and I went for the garlic bread with pesto and mozzarella, which went really nicely with the mushroom and chicken pasta I ordered. Can't recommend enough!

Me and a friend had a meal on Saturday evening and due to having such gorgeous food in a cosy relaxing warm friendly atmosphere ive booked again for Wed with my sister and Friday with a friend, do not miss out on this gem of a place 😊

Nice Steakhouse but a bit pricey.

We’d been meaning to try this place for a while so when we saw the good reviews for Sunday lunch along with photos of proper roast potatoes and home made Yorkshire puddings we booked up. Unfortunately we were served 2 small, frozen Yorkshire puddings filled with cold gravy which had turned them soggy. The roast potatoes were deep fried, there was a tiny portion of mash and the pig in blanket just tasted of oil. The crackling was chewy and unpleasant. At no point were we asked whether the food was/had been okay. You can get a nice Sunday dinner around here for £8 - £10 so if you want to charge roughly 55% more than your competition the food and service should be reflected in that price which sadly it wasn’t.

Best food Bishop Auckland has to offer, the steaks melt in your mouth, we've enjoyed every bite and will definitely be back again, lovely friendly staff very welcoming, would definitely recommend going here for a lovely evening.

We have just had our second visit to check if it was as good as the first time. It didn't disappoint really good food in a really nice setting with great service and good price. Well worth a visit.

This place is absolutely fabulous. I can honestly say that I have never had a better steak. The service was impeccable and the staff are very friendly and professional. My only criticism is the Diane sauce that I had was rather bland and tasteless.

Cheerful and welcoming place with excellent food. Was there for the first time yesterday evening with 3 friends, we all cleared our plates, the steaks were cooked precisely to order, tender and juicy. They took a little longer to arrive than we expected but, of course, worth the wait. Staff friendly, attentive, knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
