We decided to try Mantra Thai to celebrate our 12yr olds birthday. There were 8 in our party and the food and service (by Shaun and others) were exemplary. Portions were generous and meat was succulent and beautifully cooked. Our first time here, won’t be the last!

Service was really poor, very slow and had to send my starter back as it took so long to come we had just shared the starter which turned up. It took approx 1 hour before the mains arrived. They were fine. Pricing continues to rise here, but unfortunately the service has gone the other direction. We complained and then the bill turned up with a service charge included which was then removed at my request. You can't charge for poor service. Recent reviews show that we aren't the only people who have been disappointed. Something must have changed with management or staffing as this place used to be top notch.

Very disappointed. We've been here a number of times and enjoyed our visits and food but this time was very different. The food was bland, and the portions small. Tempura King prawns starter at £12 for 2 prawns, 4 pieces but the prawns had been cut lengthways and battered, 4 bbq ribs @ £10 hardly any meat on them. 2 mains, sweet and sour chicken and chicken with cashews, far too much veg, i.e. Carrots and not enough meat. Disappointed

I have visited here several times with my wife and will be doing so again after our latest lunch experience.The chicken satay and salt and chilli spare rib starters were fresh and delicious. We shared crispy belly pork with egg fried rice for main washed down with some nice Sauvignon Blanc. Special thanks to our server Bodi who was so friendly and helpful throughout. Would not hesitate to recommend if you like top class Thai food and service in a lovely setting.

Beautiful food and a quality service in a lovely restaurant

There were 6 in our group and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

We visited this based on previous reviews for a special sunday lunch. Staff are friendly and polite and decor is nice. Food is dull tasting and very expensive for what is served in qualiy and taste. We set hot plates about 20mins before our mains, and some sides (rice) did not appear for another 15 mins after the mains. The consisted of just some grated carrot, papaya and too much chilli sauce, served with cucumber sliced and a big chunk of cabbage. No way is this the same quality of tasty food I have experienced in Bangkok and Northern Thailand.

Pretty average. Food looked good as was the Panang sauce but the beef was fatty. Would have expected it to be cheaper for such a poor cut of meat. Some of the salt and chilli ribs were dry and burnt in places and had no real flavor. Satay chicken skewers were the best part of the evening. I wouldn't be returning in a hurry and like another rcent reviewer, I too would have enjoyed the local takeaway more. If I'm paying a little more I'm expecting a little more.

A beautiful Thai restaurant, styled traditionally. Spotlessly clean. A limited number of free car parking spaces right outside or next door to a multi-storey. Service was very professional and polite. Food was delicious! Great value lunch menu with two courses and a drink (includes Prosecco) for I think £23. We have been before and will keep coming back

We visited Mantra based on other reviews and the fine dining experience for mother's day. Apart from the friendly staff and nice cold interior, there is really not much to highlight. Dull tasting food, slow service (waited a long time for the rice to join our mains), no heating on when we arrived so it was very cold. Overall this place is overrated and expensive. Also the cheeky service charge added on top. Would have thought the inflated menu prices would cover the staff costs?

Venue very nice, great reviews on line. Sadly was just ok at best. £38 for mixed starter for 2, was a bit steep. £110 for just an ok meal that would be £60 anywhere else. Left a lot of food, also said at the time food wasn’t up to expectations. Did nothing to rectify.

Getting physically robbed in Spain was more dignified than the robbery that took place after eating this meal. Firstly, £12 for 3 small pieces of chewy (not fresh) squid, which was bulked out with soggy fried courgette to try and somehow make it look like less of a pi$$take. Around the same price for 4, unseasoned, bang average prawns. Then the Thai Basil noodles which I usually get at any Thai were almost inedible, it tasted like Sambuca for reasons unknown. The only thing that was ok was the Thai Green curry. Average service. I've had much better Thai meals for half the price around Newcastle. To be honest I would of much preferred the local Chinese.

Chose this place on recommendation and location close to the arena. Lovely food let down by poor service on this occasion. Had to request cutlery, requests for water were ignored and were charged for prawn crackers that we never received. First time visiting and it was busy. Prices at the higher end but I would definitely go back, overall good experience

Me and my partner went for a meal here for Valentine’s Day. We were accompanied by Sean, who made both of us feel very welcomed from the start. This has been our second time coming to this restaurant and Sean has been there to assist us. Me and my partner got the valentines set menu Amour- it was really good. We were both so full! Sean, made our night even more special by his complimentary Mango mousse! It was delicious. My partner said that this will be his second go to dessert after Crème Brûlée.

What a meal... and the staff were so attentive! Despite getting the rice order wrong which we just laughed off the food was excellent

All the food was super tasty from start to finish. We had the duck spring rolls and pork skewer starters which I shared with my husband and I had the king prawn pad Thai for my main dish. I would highly recommend both! I have a severe peanut allergy which wasn’t an issue at all, the service was also great. Hopefully we will be back soon!

Food and service were outstanding. Atmosphere is a trickier one to mark. Although we went on a quiet weekday afternoon, you can hear the sounds of the local traffic and the trains overhead as it is near a railway bridge, it did put a slight downer on things, cannot fault anything else.

The service Sean provided was amazing! He’s so lovely and attentive, which made our dining experience so special. I will definitely be back!

I try to make it to Mantra whenever I’m in Newcastle, been at least 15 times over the years. Not cheap but the quality of food is exceptional, tried a few other Thais in Newcastle and they don’t even come close. Pad Thai at Mantra I’d say is hard to beat in the UK.

Beautiful restaurant, food and service.

First visit to Mantras but definitely not the last. Located in a stunning pagoda style building near the river with its own car park, we visited on a Wednesday and the restaurant was busy. A lovely welcome from all the staff and a great choice of menu. I opted for the deep fried crispy mushrooms in a sweet and sour sauce and my friend had the butternut squash curry. Both were delicious. We were tempted by the lemon posset which was amazing for dessert. There was live music from around 7pm and the restaurant was busy for a mid-week night. Lovely staff and one of the best meals I have had in Newcastle – prices reasonable – and we will definitely be back!

I chose mantra for my hen do meal as I’ve been before and it was lovely however this visit was a complete shambles. The service was the worst I have EVER had and we waited 2.5 hours for food which came out cold and at different times. We were then chased down in the car park to pay extra on the bill despite paying the full amount. The experience was horrendous and the staff didn’t care one bit that they had completely messed up. When we booked no one asked for allergies and when we arrived and explained some had a fish allergy were we made to feel like this was a big inconvenience and the staff were not willing to accommodate this. I will now never return after this experience and my money would be best spent elsewhere.

What an absolute disgrace . 20 of us for a hen do meal service absolutley shocking had to wait for drinks that's if you got the right drink . menus not explained to us we all got different to what we wanted they cannot handle a large group who were no trouble and well behaved service charge automatically on every drink. food was waited for over 2hours it wasn't distributed to us all at same time . I would never recommend this place as nobody could help and no manager available on a Saturday afternoon. Most paid by card a couple paid cash and deposit and discount not taken into consideration was an absolute joke and disappointment

The restaurant looks nice, nothing that will blow you away but still pleasant enough. We were seated straight away and greeted by our server, honestly he had a bit of an attitude problem. I get that everyone has an off night but even after being really friendly towards him he was still being borderline rude. The food was decent and you can tell it's all fresh but I wouldn't say the flavours and dishes match with the price. There are definitely better Thai restaurants in Newcastle where you are paying a fourth of the price for equal if not better food. I'd say what you're really paying for is the experience and it's a shame ours was let down by our server. (The espresso martini was also a bit of a let down being extremely sweet).

Awesome place! They make the best prawn's noodle and curry chicken! The service is really friendly and the food is Halal.

If you know. You know. Incredible Thai restaurant hidden away from the crowds of the city and quayside. Easily the best ‘fine’ Thai dining experience in the North East. large menu so there’s something for everyone, food was exceptional and so was the service.

Attended on 21st Jan 24 with my wife. The food was amazing and the service and atmosphere were excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely return very soon. First class. Thankyou.

Excellent friendly service from all staff particularly Sean with his warm personality. He was patient (when I couldn't decide on which of the many cocktails to choose), was helpful (happy to accommodate my request to alter an ingredient in the meal) and was enthusiastic when singing Happy Birthday to our friend! Every meal on the restaurant week menu came with a vegetarian option and all food was divine! Thankyou.

We had visited this restaurant before and were not disappointed with our return visit. The food is excellent, and the service is efficient and charming. I had chicken stir fry and my partner had duck. It is not the cheapest of restaurants but well worth a visit. Unusually for a city centre restaurant, it has its own carpark.

Always love coming here the food is always amazing and the staff are probably the best I've seen in any restaurant who will go out of their way for you. It's a little more expensive than alot of Thai restaurants but you ultimately are paying for the very well kept restaurant and brilliant service from the staff so it's worth it.

We had a lovely family meal at Mantra Thai for a family birthday celebration. The restaurant itself is in a really good place in the centre of Newcastle, very easy to get to from Newcastle Central station and really close to Newcastle Quayside area. The staff were extremely welcoming and professional. The food was delicious, we all tried something different and all dishes were exceptional. The prawn cracker starters were lovely too. For a beautiful authentic Thai meal this is a great place to visit. Prices were reasonable and definitely worth it for the quality of the food.

We're ate here on a Saturday night (before seeing Madness) and were pleased we'd booked as it was very busy. The restaurant is contemporary in decor and everything felt slick and professional. Unsurprisingly the food was excellent and certainly a cut above other Thai restaurants. To begin with we had the starter platter which came with prawn toasts, spring rolls, ribs etc. Everything was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. For mains I had the Choo Chee Curry King Prawns - the prawns were massive, but very enjoyable as was the sweet/savoury sauce which accompanied it. My wife had a stir fry which again was excellent and although my son felt his portion of green Thai curry was rather small, he enjoyed it. Prices are quite high, but the high quality food justifies any visit to Mantra Thai Dining.

The food looks nice in presentation. I had the Lamb Shank Penang Curry. Something was off and I end up vomiting the entire meal. I will certainly not recommend this place to anyone. Definitely not returning back ever again... please don't be fooled by the presentation...

We found this gem just near our hotel. Wonderful staff and service. The food was just delicious. It was a little expensive but then so are most places now. Thank you for a delicious meal.

First time visit. Nice decor, lighting nice and mellow, not feeling like you are being interrogated in some places. Staff are very attentive, polite and friendly from when you first walk in. Food was is well cooked and presented, absolutely no complaints for the food. The price is more on the steep side, but it is good value because of the quality. We will return!!

I'd say this was quite possibly the nicest tasting food I've ever eaten out. Not only was the food delicious but the service was excellent. Only come to Newcastle once a year but will definitely be making this place a must visit on our next trip!!

The food was very tasty, I was part of a party of 8, and we ordered starters to share and then main courses. All the dishes I tried were lovely, portion size just right and rice extra. The service, from the greeting on walking in, then throughout our meal, was great. Staff were friendly, patient and very attentive.

I took my son and his girlfriend for dinner and enjoyed some really delicious food! Soft shell crab, prawns and squid for starters and the sea bass jungle curry, lamb shank massaman were particularly good. Lovely setting and delightful service. Recommended.

Too expensive for what you had !

This place lacks authenticity. My friend ordered a broccoli with fried tofu which was not very much of an Asian dish. My chicken pad was good but I waited too long for it, and they asked me twice what I ordered, and by the end still charged us 10% for service fee. Unbelievable. They don’t have Thai dessert which is quite disappointing, but their other dessert is good, however, a bit overpriced. I won’t go there again.

The best Thai restaurant in town. The staffs are so lovely and pleasant. I was so satisfied with their service and the taste of foods. The dinning atmosphere is very chill and it’s a good place for gathering, family and birthday dinner.

first from outside, the restaurant just looks amazing. the service are beyond my imagination as the waitress used two spoon to take the dishes so that they won't touch the food. They change the settings when they serve any dishes. the view and the food is just too good.

Disappointed, very over priced, stay away from the set menu, alacarte menu may be more authentic but won't be back to find out. Changed a dish from the main course on the set menu for 4 and when the bill came we where charged for it. £280 for 4 people. High cost definitely doesn't mean better!
