Fabulous location but even better was the food and the service. We were served mainly by Rory who was outstanding with his customer service evening accompanying us the door and thanking us when we left. The food was very special and this is a great place for a celebration meal or a wedding or just a very nice meal out with friends.

I can only say the whole experience was fantastic, the food first class, the service very good and attentive and all this at a very acceptable price. Our weekend with family to celebrate my wife's birthday was perfect, the whole ambience and Christmas spirit was great. We travelled over 100 miles for the experience it was worth every mile. Thank you all.

We have been before but clearly the chef and management team have changed. the food lacks refinement. a large piece of venison with sauce dumped over it may suit some tastes, it didn't ours. one of our party had pigeon starter then guinea fowl which was ok but they were ill for 36 hours after.

The where: Mansion House, Llansteffan, Carmarthenshire The when: 1230h, Wednesday 01 March 2023 The why: lunch to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary Having been kind of let down by the place we'd booked a week-and-a-half prior to our anniversary (they pulled the regular menu with just 3 days to go in favour of afternoon teas or a hugely reduced set menu), my good lady & I decided to tootle down to Llansteffan, to a place that we've both visited before but many moons ago. The building has evidently had an extensive refurbishment programme, with a lot of money being spent on fixtures, fittings, fabrics, etc. The restaurant is very well appointed with good sized dining tables, all spaced out very well, as the room itself is not small. Drinks were very reasonably priced, which was a nice surprise, & the menu was absolutely spot-on in the value for money stakes. Especially given what we had ... Pre-starters consisted of a pair of charcoal bread rolls with sea salt & pesto butter, which were brought to the table in a vintage-style trinket box, lovely & warm. For starters proper, my wife had the sticky pork belly with pak choi & a garnish of red chillis, spring onion & coriander, while I opted for the goats cheese bon bons with a crunchy slaw & chopped pistachio nut topping. The bon bons were crispy ont he outside & oh-so fluffy inside. Both starters were delicious, & the right sized portions to give our stomachs the warning that more food was going to be coming right up! Mains were the chef's special pan-fried sea bass with roasted baby potatoes, confit tomato & pea shoots for my wife, while I went for the slow cooked venison topped with red onion marmalade, sweet potato mash & roasted cauliflower on the side drizzled with a rich jus. Again, both absolutely delightful & I can say that the venison was cooked beautifully ... when my fork initially connected with the meat, it just fell apart & practically shredded itself. Superb! Desserts came in the form of treacle tart with a pistachio coulis & lemon sorbet for Mrs H, while I partook of the affogato. What a way to finish a great meal! The welcome was warm, the service was great, the surroundings were tasteful, the cutlery & settings were immaculate (think crisp white table cloths, proper cloth napkins, etc.) & the views from our table out over the estuary were quite something. It's a solid 9-out-of-10 for us, with the only minor note being that it was ever-so slightly lacking in ambience, which is no fault of the establishment given the time of day & the indeed the day of the week during which we chose to visit. There was an ecletic mix of acoustic cover versions being played on the in-house audio system, which was absolutely fine, & had us both thinking about what we were listening to at times ... one minute it was a cover of Robin Thicke "Blurred Lines", & next it was an acoustic cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". Of course, this minor does not in any way detract from the great food, the great service & the venue itself. Heartily recommended, in other words. Thanks to the staff at Mansion House for a great dining experience!

Food quality is superb and extremely reasonably priced at £23 2 course and £26 3 course. I would describe the food as set between really, really great pub food and fine dining! My smoked pigeon starter was great, my parents squash soup was extremely smooth and had a great taste. My venison was great and the fish and chips using possibly locally caught mullet instead of (cod or haddock) in batter was inspired. The chips were superb. The creme brulee and panna cotta we both great as well. See you again soon.

This is a fabulous venue overlooking Llansteffan and the estuary. We went there for lunch today to celebrate my partners mother’s upcoming 90th birthday. The young staff were extremely friendly and polite and we had a lovely Sunday lunch. The food was very good and service excellent. One minor hiccup was they forgot to put a candle on the dessert but it’s not a big issue. The only other small issue is the noise in the dining room that can make it hard to hear conversation at the table. This could easily be resolved by adding some sound deadening and/or soft furnishings to the room. Overall we had a lovely afternoon at Mansion House and will definitely return.

The most beautiful setting overlooking the Towy estuary. Chef Paul creates the most stunning dishes. Plus the service is fab. Fine dining at its best but in a relaxed atmosphere. Wendy & David are very welcoming hosts.

I visited the restaurant today at lunchtime and had a delicious three course meal. It’s the first meal I’ve had out since Covid stuck and to be honest I was feeling a little apprehensive before I went. However, the staff were very welcoming (at a distance) and there was hand sanitiser available in a couple of areas on entering the build and dining room. Other guest were sat at tables spread out in the large dining room and were a good distance apart. The meal was delicious and with the Eat out to help out offer available, was extremely good value. Highly recommended.

Our first visit, and took my wife's father for lunch. Service was excellent from the moment we entered. Food and drink orders taken quickly and wine and food were delicious. It was a very nice afternoon, so after dinner we took in the garden for a while looking at the wonderful view they have of the Towy Estuary. Only one down-side from my point of view was that I have an electric car, and although they had someone assisting with parking, they did not mention they had three electric charging points (2 Tesla and 1 for any other EV). It's not mentioned on their website anywhere either. I only spotted the chargers when leaving.

A cheeky late visit for Sunday lunch. Service was brilliant. We were greeted outside and shown where to park, then on entering the mansion we were seated in the bar area and drinks order taken promptly. When seated at our table - we were given time to study the menu. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. I only had a chance to take photos of our starters but the main course was beautiful. Lamb was tender and served with roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese and a mix of green veg. Condiments were available on the table already and more gravy arrived on request. I highly recommend Moryd for lovely service and wonderful food. The location is stunning and the amenities are kept clean. Will definitely be going back!!

They were lovely and friendly and showed no signs of stress given how busy it was. The children were also made to few at home. The food was lovely. The starters were varied and well presented. The main was also very good. The meat was fantastic and the vegetables were not over cooked. There were no complaints from our party at all.We ended the meal with complimentary coffees on the front garden enjoying the view of Carmarthen Bay and a Red Kite.Great day. Thank you.

This was a pleasant hotel, with fabulous service. We went along as a group of five for my daughter's 26th birthday. The service was absolutely first class, the ambience pleasant, and some lovely canapes arrived unexpectedly after we'd order but prior to our meal arriving. This was a lovely touch. Everyone enjoyed the meal, with the exception of myself. I was the only one eating vegetarian and I felt that all of the dishes were bland. I stress however this was not the experience of the rest of my party who would all go back again.

Despite booking 10 for Sunday lunch, and arriving on time, left standing in the entrance hall for 10-15 minutes before being seated. A further wait before order was taken, then waited nearly an hour, yes 1 HOUR for starters. Two of our party had soup which they were forced to eat with dessert spoons as no soup spoons were provided. Mediocre main course, one of the desserts, sticky toffee pudding, included a hard piece of penne pasta!! As a family group, mourning a recent bereavement, we made the most of it and were in no mood to create fuss. However, I for one am in no hurry to return.

Just trying to find an excuse to stay - as we live in Swansea we're only 40 minutes away which seems a bit too near to stay the night - but I'm sure I'll think of a reason to stay. We recently visited sampling their fixed price lunch, which was superb, so we thought we would return to try their al a carte evening menu. My egg starter was well cooked and presented but I found it slightly bland, possibly needing a drizzle to acompany the large amount of rocket and my wifes salmon dressing had split and had no discernible taste although we were told by the very pleasant waitress that that was how it should be? That said the overall meal, setting and service was very good. Would like to come back and stay the night.

I hadn't heard of the Mansion House before, but it was featured in a Wales Online article, and after checking the menu my Mum and I gave Sunday Lunch a go. Firstly, the setting is beautiful. A charming mansion house with a view over the estuary due to its hilly setting. As we entered we were pleasantly greeted and shown our seats in an expansive room (ideal for weddings no doubt) and placed at a big table with a view out across the aforementioned estuary. The sunday lunch was very good as was dessert. Being a busy Sunday, the food is not cooked to order, and the desserts definitely had a feel of just brought out from the fridge, but nevertheless they were tasty. The service was very efficient, mainly carried out by various young waiters and waitresses. There were a few minors that perhaps others would have marked harshly on, for example, the apricot parfait was served in just a cup, without a plate, so the only place to put the spoon was sticking out of the cup!Overall, a lovely experience in a beautiful setting. I would highly recommend others to give it a go.

Three out of four meals were very good but one was on the cold side. The meal was totally let down by the service. The staff were pleasant but rarely visible. No wine list was presented and we had to find someone at the bar to provide one. Having ordered a bottle, it was delivered and set down on the table unopened. After a wait we had to go to the bar again to request a member of staff to open the bottle. It was then served out without being offered for tasting. It also took ages for the bill to arrive.

It was my husband's 65th birthday today and we decided to visit here for lunch. The Mansion House is a 200 year old Manor House which has been tastefully converted into a boutique hotel. On arriving, we were given an enthusiastic welcome and once we were seated, we were asked whether it was a special meal. When booking, I had asked for a window seat with a view and sure enough, we were given a table overlooking the spacious grounds and beyond that, the estuary, which was beautiful when the sun came out. The food was well presented - lovely soup, which we both had, then my husband had the salmon on a bed of wilted spinach and quinoa and I had pork in cider and mustard sauce with vegetables; for dessert, my husband had summer fruit crumble and I had raspberry and white chocolate panna cotta- delicious! Mansion house is a lovely boutique hotel with a personality, the starter, started terribly which was a selection of cold meats and pickles, the meat was clearly all pre sliced and the pickles were "weird" sprouts, red peppers, gherkins and capers. As a restauranteur and food & beverage professional I recommend they get rid of this ASAP! My friend had the salted cod starter which was absolutely delicious, (managed to get a small piece) I had the roast beef which was potentially the best I have ever had, very tender and flavoursome, with a lovely compliment of vegetables, gravy was very basic but overall a decent experience. Oh and they also run out of the beer that we were drinking (moretti draft) which isn't a problem for me personally because I drink a wide range of beers / alcohols. This is a complete new establishment so I take my hat off for what they have done and I hope this review helps the business improve

We were travelling to Llansteffan from Swansea to visit the castle for my 17 year old son's A level Archaeology project & decided to have lunch out. We googled places to eat and The Mansion House came up so we decided to try it. We are very glad we did. The setting is lovely, in pretty countryside but with spectacular views across the estuary towards Ferryside. There were little boats bobbing in the distance and the sun sparkling on the water, it was really picturesque, and we could see all this from our table by the window. There were tables and chairs outside for if you wanted to sit out wont a coffee and a nice orangery function room for events. The food was lovely…the 'market menu', available lunch time, with fresh seasonal food had plenty of choice and there was also a bar menu and a la carte. Two of us are gluten free and the waitress and chef couldn't have been more helpful, adapting some items to suit that. The food was plentiful, delicious and served by a friendly waitress(Kelly). I would describe it as traditional but with finesse, a bit special but recognisable as 'real food'!We strolled across the garden to take in the view after and vowed to come back again. My son has specifically asked to visit again next time we come to the castle, and you can't get much more praise than a 17 year old who would normally rather be stuck behind a computer eating a pizza saying that!

Since I last reviewed this establishment I have visited it for Christmas dinner, Sunday after Christmas tea, three Sunday lunches and a few weekday lunches and have enjoyed all the meals. The Christmas meals were served in the large elegant dining room which has large windows which overlook the estuary and the garden. The tables were well separated. On Christmas day we were greeted with canapés and sparkling wine and led to our table. I can’t remember all we had but there were good choices for all courses. For the main course we partook of turkey, beef and pheasant but didn’t try the fish or vegetarian options. For dessert there was Christmas pudding or one of the delectable sweets from the trolley. This was followed by the cheese course and finished with coffee and mince pies. I really appreciated the meal as it was only the second time in fifty three years that I had not had to make Christmas dinner! The Sunday after Christmas tea was enjoyed by all, particularly the children who were able to sample the sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, bara brith and all of the little cakes. When we finished the sandwiches more were brought. A happy occasion. The Sunday lunches are also served in the large dining room. There is usually a choice of three meats, and a fish and a vegetarian option. A selection and ample supply perfectly cooked vegetables as well as the appropriate accompaniments for the meats are always served. There are no fancy sauces etc but a traditional Sunday lunch is served, which is what the diners seem to want and enjoy,. The desserts are always good and are followed by tea or coffee. All this served by a friendly staff at a very reasonable price. We had lunch here last week. It was served in the comfortable bar area. I enjoyed a well cooked steak and chips followed by a chocolate and strawberry roulade and a delicious espresso coffee. I heard the coffee being freshly ground in the machine. Service was excellent. We will return before long! .

I have been intrigued for some time about a large white house perched on a hillside across the estuary from Ferrryside. On doing a little research I found it was an old mansion house which is now a hotel and restaurant. We decided to have lunch out on Friday and I suggested we go to the Mansion House on the off chance of being able to have lunch there. I already knew from my little research that the main house is only open on a Sunday for lunch during the winter period but the Tafarn (attached to the main house) is open. It is a lovely drive from Swansea and takes in country roads following the estuary towards the end of the journey. We were served by Janet, a very pleasant lady, who not only took our order but gave us information on the house - the fact that the owners have been there for 2 years and are slowly bringing the house back to it's former glory. I had battered cod, my husband had steak - both came with chips and both meals were well cooked and well presented. My husband opted for Tirimasu for dessert and I had icecream. We followed this with coffee. All this, plus a bottle of wine, came to a little £60 which I felt was a fair price for the meal. The bonus is the view from outside the mansion house, across the estuary - idyllic. I'm looking forward to our returning there, if not during the coming months, in the summer where I look forward to partaking of a Pimms on the terrace - my idea of heaven.

The welcome is genuine and everyone works hard to make your experience memorable, it's attentive and friendly. The menu has some regular favourites and a few surprises, my wife had the cockles in popcorn lava bread, and all of us wished we had ordered those! The mains are well priced considering the quality, we all had fish, and the salmon and hake entrees were delicious, the hake with pesto, and the salmon special, on a bed of spinach. Sadly we were all too full to sample the deserts, hopefully a return visit will allow us to this.

We wanted to take our cousins out for a meal to end our trip. They suggested Mansion House. It was friendly, and I hoped to have some local food.I was not unhappy with the choice of menu. Local lamb, beef and fish dishes. The vegetables were just plain and steamed which could be deemed a little boring but for those frightened of butter and salt probably a good idea. The new potatoes were a little undercooked, but generally good. The chips were undercooked, but tasty. The sea bass was well cooked and the spinach in butter it was served with was delicious. Our relatives had lamb and enjoyed it immensely.I did not have dessert instead some whiskey in coffee, but the desserts seemed to go down well. All was enjoyed with a dry French white. The view from the building is wonderful, unfortunately the restaurant does not have the estuary view but instead has the garden which from our table was not visible. The staff are friendly and local.Give it a try if you are in the vicinity.

For me, this is a mixed review. On one hand, I really enjoyed my food, but on the other, my friends were not as impressed.Fisrtly, we came to the Mansion House on the same day as a wedding - I am not sure if this changed anything, because the bar/restaurant was running as normal. The house itself was very nice and we went into the bar/restaurant. There were a mix of diners at tables and people drinking at the bar. The decor was tired and it had a gastropub feel to it.The service was friendly and very good, and the lady who took care of us was particularly enthusiastic about the local options - cockles and sewin. I tried both. The cockles an laver bread was excellent. The mains came in a slightly old-school way, with vegetables at the side (which we ordered extra). The sewin in white sauce was good, and was a decent portion. Some of my friends had vegetarian option and they were small in size and they viewed them as poor value - see nji1000's review. Desserts were average. he wine menu was well priced with plenty of choice and I was very happy with that. For the score, I must consider all the meals we chose and the overall value - I really enjoyed the meal, but take the point that other diner's experiences were not as good. Overall, I would happily visit again, and recommend the local specials.

My husband and I went to the Mansion House on 29th April for my birthday. We were staying in Kidwelly, so it was quite a drive, but it was well worth it. I had the sewin which was delicious and my husband had the lamb which he thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and attentive. There was only one other gentleman eating that evening, but it was a Tuesday and apparently they had only recently started opening on Monday and Tuesday. The restaurant is in need of some TLC, there is damp above the fireplace and it is need of an update, but that apart I would definitely recommend it.

This restaurant is confused - it has quite ambitious pricing and some interesting and flavoursome dishes but doesn't deliver. The staff are friendly and helpful and keen to promote the local dishes (e.g. local cockles and laverbread; local asparagus salad, sewn with chive cream sauce) but the presentation and preparation lets things down. Prices were at the higher end for starters (£7.50 for an asparagus salad) and disappointing. The asparagus salad was mostly green salad presented with 3 pieces of asparagus cut in half! A portobello mushroom was served with a dull side salad(whilst the 'shroom was good a fairer portion would have been two). The laverbread and cockles were the best starter of the three (and cheapest) but served with an entirely undressed side salad.Mains were also variable - the pearl barley risotto had a good dose of cheese and was a nice texture but the featured asparagus "could have been missed if you blinked". The sewin (sea trout) was an ample portion but the chive/cream sauce was not developed enough to truly complement the flavours. The sea bass was served with a very good salsa verde. Side portions of vegetables were extra. The wine list was good with a range of choices and was very competitively priced. Deserts were competent but not well thought out - a good chocolate sponge pudding was served without any ice cream / cream which it desperately needed to break up the uniform tastes.Decor is somewhat faded with areas of damp and damage to some of the wallpaper and dark wood furniture. It feels tired - and certainly does not project the ambience that should accompany meals at this price point. The restaurant was certainly popular - mostly with locals. Overall it felt like a faded pub-restaurant and delivered food of a comparable quality - but priced at unjustified upper gastro-pub levels. Some work on presentation and providing decent quantities of the key ingredients in the starters and holding off from anaemic side salads to bulk them up would go a long way to improving the dining experience. Overall we came away feeling that we had overpaid for some mostly mediocre food (with a few good dishes).

It ticks most of the boxes. Lovely location. Superb view from conservatory. Make sure you don't coinside with a wedding. Limited menu but well cooked, except Don't Chose The Duck! For some reason they over cook it. This is the only real criticism. All in all I would recommend this restaurant.

We ate at the Mansion House on Easter Sunday with 3 generations of family. It proved to be the perfect family choice for something a little more special from the warm welcome in the bar area when we arrived through to our departure. The set menu had 4 starters, one of the kids couldn't find a starter he liked, but the kitchen happily made up an alternative. 4 choices of mains, 3 roasts and fish, lots of vegetable accompaniments (not so sure about marrowfat peas as one of the options) through to an extensive desert list. The wine menu starts from a very reasonable price. Services was not hurried and very relaxed, although the young staff perhaps sometimes need a little direction, 1 solitary side plate remained through the whole meal (odd after the others were all collected after the starter). My only gripe would be to have linen napkins to match the linen on the table (paper napkins just don't do it). All in all a lovely relaxing lunch, well priced and enjoyed by everyone in our party.

We recently held a Business meeting at the Mansion House to entertain and present to local business people. What a superb venue. We were looked after well and David went out of his way to look after us and make sure the event went well. The lunch we received was excellent. If we ever need to hold a meeting in this area we would not hesitate to make they Mansion House our first point of call

Visited today for a family lunch. Food, service and ambience were perfect. The owners have been in charge for only a few months, but, my goodness - they certainly know what they're doing. If visitors to Carmarthenshire want a quality experience in a beautiful location then go no further than the Mansion House at Pantyrathro.

Ate here yesterday Mother's day. What a change to be able to dine in a relaxed setting and without the feeling of 'let's get as many as we can get in feeling' because of it being mother's day. The food was excellent and certainly not overpriced. The service was good and the young staff very pleasant and helpful. My two young grandchildren were made very welcomed and were accommodated to their needs. I know that it is under new owners and wish Dave and Wendy the best of luck in their new venture.

The restaurant is now under new management. THe standards are as high as ever. Our party which visited lunch time had: turkey with all the trimmings; Chicken curry with poppadoms; and sausage and mash with onion gravy. All were delicious. There were mouth-watering desserts such as chocolate roulade, blackcurrant cheesecake and of course christmas pudding. We finished with excellent espresso coffee. I can still thoroughly recommend this restaurant. We will be returning before too long!

I can’t express what an amazing venue the Mansion House Hotel is for a wedding or a short stay! We had our wedding here and due to us living in North Wales both families and friends had to travel down, everyone stayed at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food over the whole weekend was to die for and friends and family are still raving about it; compliments to Anwen the chef – amazing! The Mansion had the biggest Christmas tree I have ever seen which added to the ambience. The location is breathtaking with views of the estuary. We had a truly magical time during our stay here and the venue, food and location all made our wedding truly magical. Thank you all at Pantyrathro.

Stayed two nights here for a wedding in January, good weather stunning views and close to the beach. Had a lovely room, really comfortable bed, and everyone who stayed here commented on how nicw the rooms were. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant the first night, the wedding food was delicious, staff did their best to make the day go without a hitch, and it worked. Breakfast the following morning was great and stayed for an outstanding three course Sunday lunch. Would thoroughly recommend

We got married at The Mansion House Hotel in September. We have no complaints about the meal, the food was of a good standard. However the attitude of the Hotelier was appalling, she was rude and unhelpful. Many of our guests stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding and on the night of the wedding, the rooms were awful. They had mold on the walls, wallpaper peeling off, loose carpets. The bathrooms were dirty and also covered in mold. My husband to be and my mother in law had to clean the room the meal and ceremony were being held in as there were dead flies around the windows, cobwebs everywhere and mold on pictures. The hotel was understaffed, there was no one to check the wedding guests into hotel. It was like Fawlty Towers! Please do not book your wedding here, your wedding is supposed to be a memourable day and you do not want it tarnished by the things listed above.

We have had several meals at the Mansion House Restaurant and always been impressed. It is now a regular treat to have Sunday lunch here. The welcome is excellent, very friendly and we were remembered after our first visit despite about six weeks having passed before we went again. The food is very high quality, the portions are generous and ingredients are top quality. The soups are always fantastic, the many accompanying vegetables are a real treat and the puddings are works of art. Service is superb and a model of efficiency. Presentation is excellent. Welsh and English is spoken so if you're a Welsh speaker you'll be right at home. Families are welcome and the very large dining room means if children in restaurants are not your thing you'll be unlikely to notice any are present. My only suggestion would be to offer a vegetarian main course on the Sunday lunch menu. The setting is beautiful. The Mansion House is perched above the estuary with stunning views, magical on a sunny day. The building itself is an impressive house which retains many original features, check out the Victorian tiles in the ladies loo (but obviously don't do this if you are a man!!). Although it is largely unspoiled it is a bit 'shabby chic' ... it could do with a repaint and some of the chairs are a bit too old and uncomfortable to stay in service. Having said that it's preferable to corporate sterility; just take it for what it is- friendly, well run with a great atmosphere and tremendous, good value food.

The Mansion House Hotel is not easy to find. The first time we went (in the dark) we missed the turning. The advice we were given however was good as we were told that if we saw the boat club we’d gone too far, so we turned back and turned up the first road to the left. I’ve been here once for a function and several times for lunch and have never been disappointed. The function was in the main hotel and the lunches were served in a smaller room at the side of the hotel. At the moment they are serving a two course meal with a glass of wine for £10 from Wednesday to Saturday which is excellent value. There is also an a la carte menu with local produce. I particularly liked the unusual but delicious soups that they offer. There is usually a choice of 3 dishes for starters and main course and a good choice of desserts. The service is always friendly and efficient. The hotel has a good view of the estuary so we usually have a little walk after our lunch. A lovely place for a delicious meal.

While staying for a short period in the area, we looked on line for a nice restaurant and a his seemed to fit the bill. We were very pleased with our visit. The reception was friendly and not at all pretentious. It is not a large place, perhaps no more than 30 covers and although we made reservations, it was fairly quiet mid-week. Our starter was hummus but strangely we had to order accompaniments separately. Not particularly substantial but we enjoyed our main courses of chicken and salmon. Both well prepared and presented. There is is a choice of generous side dishes which made for a substantial meal. Prices are very reasonable.

We wanted to treat ourselves to a nice evening meal during our holiday and were glad to have found Picton House. Our starters, mains and dessert were all delicious and well presented. We felt the prices were appropriate for the quality of the food. The staff were friendly and the place has a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. We will certainly eat at Picton House again if we're in the area.
