A chef who knows how to balance their flavours and does it well. Innovative dishes that surprise and please. Front of house staff that care and are knowledgable (and know when to go and ask when they don’t). What’s not to love! Two minutes from Oban centre is no excuse not to go!

Absolutely adored our 2 nights at this lovely and historic facility. Rooms were on the 3rd floor and the views of sea and gardens were beautiful. The decor reflected the history of the home: beautiful fabrics and wallpaper along with antique(reproduction) furniture. Room and bath were clean and comfortable and David the evening host/barman was an informative delight. Easy walk into center of Oban for food and shopping. If you do nothing else in Oban, spend the night here.

Great food and wonderful staff. We received a lovely warm welcome and brilliant service both times we visited. David is so good at his job, full of recommendations and local knowledge, made us feel very welcome. The food is exceptional, local organic produce with such nice flavours. Escape from a disappointing hotel in Oban, and join a friend for dinner at The Manor House. Great decision, as from the moment we sat down to a very special malt whisky (Isle of Jura), Orkney Gin and Elgin Sauvignon, to the time we left after a very good dinner, the whole evening was just so enjoyable. Starters of seared scallops and goat cheese were followed by coq au champagne and perfectly prepared roe buck saddle and roasted monkfish. Peaceful surroundings, capped off with coffee in the lounge.

We booked the manor house on the recommendation of a local and were NOT disappointed. The food was absolutely top class - we cannot remember a nicer meal. The setting is just perfect, it really feels like you're in someone's home! We had drinks in the lounge in front of the fire and then moved through to the intimate dining room. All staff were good, but Ben was particularly great. Giving us advice on gin & generally making the evening a really brilliant experience. Would really recommend the Manor House to anyone looking for a special meal

Absolute gem. We had drinks on the terrace overlooking Oban. Then a delicious perfectly cooked and presented meal in a lovely traditional dining room. The service from beginning to end was flawless. Wonderful menu of local produce and a great balance between fish and meet course choices. The staff snd owners were professional , efficient and friendly . The Manor House has had a very interesting past and is a well maintained blended mix of decorative and architectural history - definitely recommended.

Staying in hotel, and dined there three times in six nights. Great sea view from the small dining room pressed into service. Unfortunately, they are only just getting back on their feet after three months enforced closure so, perhaps understandably, the menu alternated, day about, meaning you inevitably got the same menu twice, though each contained four starters and four mains, including a vegetarian option. Very pleasant and helpful staff and service, who offered to try to get us an off menu alternative. We found the amuses bouches delightful, and all the tried starters were great, and nicely presented. The mains were excellent too, with the emphasis on seafood. Decent selection of wine to suit any palate. Thoroughly recommended.

Sometimes it not when things go well when you get to find out the quality of an establishment but when they don't. This is what happened to us today we booked to have an early family Christmas lunch, unfortunately the booking got mixed up and they were not expecting us for a formal lunch but rather a bar meal. The staff could not have been kinder moving us to the formal restaurant for better Christmas atmosphere. They then explained no turkey! however other roasts were available with Christmas trimmings all well presented and cooked. In summary the staff did a great job of keeping our day special despite the issues and to round it off a very generous discount on all meals. Well done we will be back it is times like this when the cream rises and quality shows

Although we arrived well before check in time we were shown to our lovely room which looked out over the sea. The staff were all extremely helpful and very friendly nothing was a chore. Kaitlyn deserves a special message as she recommended things we could do and in the evening asked us how we had got on. The food was scrumptious both evenings and we were given a half bottle of champagne as it had recently been a special birthday. Breakfast was also of a very high standard would recommend scramble eggs and smoked salmon. The only downside of our visit is that Manor House is on the other side of the sea from of us . Readers should cross-reference my review of the Manor House Hotel. As per that review I accord very few 5 star ratings as I believe these should be reserved for exceptional experiences. The restaurant at the Manor House is first class, the staff warm, the food - particularly the seafood - exceptional and the setting special. My colleague and her and my spouse ate at the restaurant every day during our stay. The service was outstanding, and the staff accommodated our need to be out early as their service officially begins later than I'd expect. Breakfast was filling and very good, setting us up for the day ahead. Menus for dinner changed each day, and the Chef - a very talented individual - took to our challenge to design a tasting menu for us with gusto. (See the attached photo for details.) It was all delicious tho I recall the venison veered to slightly overcooked, but still very tasty. Nonetheless the dinner was a spectacular success and relatively reasonably priced. The Gin and Tonic Granita with Apple Caramel was a fantastic dessert. Chef pointed me to a recipe that had inspired him and I have served it at home on several occasions since. The restaurant richly deserves its AA Rosette and should likely be ranked higher than it is. I believe the Michelin guide should be scoping the Manor House Restaurant out for an award in the coming year, especially as the MHR has recently been awarded "Visit Scotland’s Taste Our Best award for 2016/17".

This is a class act in a town not flush with fine eating establishments. Our dinner was very good, with styles mixing nouvelle cuisine with fine Scottish ingredients. The table d'hote choices were very good, and the soup and sorbet courses a nice extra. Irrespective of the surroundings and pleasing facilities, the test for any restaurant should be if they can produce a steak cooked to the preference chosen by the guest. Unfortunately this restaurant, failed, miserably. Firstly, the steak ordered was to be cooked medium to well. What arrived, was a deep brown colour, charred beyond recognition, tough and with all the goodness left in the kitchen. It bore all the resemblance of a left over sirloin, when it should have been a thick juicy cut of filet. Our mistake was showing reticence to send it back to the kitchen. They also charged a £4 supplement for the privilege, when a piece of meat of that quality would not have cost £4 to buy in the first instance. When I did raise the matter with the staff, I was simply told.....medium to well done steak is difficult !!!! Says it all.

Even with only two tables occupied, the room feels comfortable and relaxing. The service was pitched just right and the food excellent, great tastes, nicely presented with interesting highlights. Well what a find this was! I had booked the hotel but only decided to have dinner there as we didn't fancy walking into town. Thank God we did! The little restaurant is beautifully furnished with tartan carpets and so appealing. The menu was exceptional and the food, presentation and service easily rivals the wide variety of places we eat in Central London. The full menu is £42 per person but this does include starter, soup, sorbet, main, dessert, coffee and petit fours but if you don't feel that hungry, you can have less and pay less. It was my birthday so they even brought candles out on my cheese - how sweet is that? I take my hat off to Gregor and his team, you have really done yourself proud.

My husband and I were staying at the truly exceptional Ardanaiseig Hotel and went into Oban for the day to sightsee. We decided to stay in Oban for dinner and chose the Manor House Hotel, which was supposed to have fine dining. When we entered the hotel, a server just looked at us and then left us for five minutes in the lobby before coming back and instead of welcoming us just asked us bluntly if we had a reservation. The hotel restaurant was completely empty and we said no and asked if there was an issue with two for dinner. Instead of replying she just pointed toward the drawing room, and then came back 5 minutes later and said "what do you want to drink." We hadn't even gotten menus yet to be able to consider what we might like to drink, and I had to ask to see a dinner menu. We settled on drinks and dinner and then had to wait another 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our orders. When they brought us through to the dining room, there was one other table there but other than that the place was still empty. They sat us at the worst table in the dining room where my chair was directly next to the swinging door to the kitchen. When we asked if we could move to another table a bit further from the door, we were told they were all reserved and that we couldn't move (1.5 hours later when we left they were still 80% empty tables). The service throughout the meal was absolutely terrible. And we joked that we had inadvertently sat at the "Chef's Table" because our entire meal we listened to our rude server and the Chef literally scream at each other, punctuated by the server slamming the swinging door open every time she left the kitchen. Nothing is more romantic than the kitchen staff yelling at each other. The server continued to be quite rude through the rest of the courses. The awful service perhaps could have been redeemed if the food had been halfway decent, but it was laughably uninspired. The appetizers were average, the black cherry sorbet was too overpowering to be a palate cleanser, and my husband's Filet was horribly bland and my Seafood Grill was literally drowning in oil and the fish was overcooked - at one point I had to cut the piece of salmon with a knife. And this in the "Seafood Capital" of Scotland! After the terrible entrees, we just had to ask for the check and get out of there because the whole experience was just so bad. I mentioned to the head server the issues we had, and he explained that the waitress was in a bad mood because the Chef was temperamental, and no apology for her behavior or recompense was offered. For this delightful pleasure we paid $47 pounds each. The Manor House is a beautiful location, but the restaurant is currently so poorly run and the food so clearly not worth the money that I would recommend to completely skip this disaster until they change chefs and wait staff. We have had some amazing meals in Scotland but this was by far the worst meal and experience we have had.

This restaurant is really something special. The food is very high quality and could rival a Michelin restaurant. The service is excellent and a window seat gives an excellent view over Oban Bay.

Enjoyed dinner with our friends who were also staying at this hotel. On the positiive side, the setting is lovely, overlooking Oban bay, and the room is comfortable. We started in the lounge area with wine and canapes which were delicious. Dinner was mixed: The gnocchi was very tasty but skimpy. The parsnip soup was outstanding and the seafood grill (halibut, sole, sea bass and salmon) was mostly very good. Some of the items lacked seasoning, something we have encountered repeatedly in Scotland. The real disappointment was that we were not allowed to bring in our own wines (even after offering to pay a corkage fee). Alas, the Frank Phelan St. Estephe was flat and overpriced. The Hubert Brochard Sancere 2014 was better. Nice touch having sorbet between the starters and the main. We skipped dessert and opted for tea. Overall pretty good.

Both the menu choices and portion sizes. Only one vegetarian option, which is a shame. The food, staff and surroundings (sat on their patio typing this message...) Are excellent!

We onle ate here one night but the food was very good indeed, well served, good choice - the menu was small and very well balanced. The dining room is small and quite intimate with good service and extremmy pleasant staff with a good wine list. You will need to book at all times as it is one of the best restaurants in Oban and whilst it is about 7 minutes walk from the town very well worth eating here.

We have been travelling in Scotland for about two months, so can speak from experience when we say that our two dinners and three breakfasts at the Manor House Hotel Restaurant were memorable. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and attentive, and the dining room itself has a pleasant ambience. We highly recommend dinning here.

The Manor House Hotel is used for pre-embarkation purposes for the Hebridean Princess. Afternoon Tea is always provided in that connection but today we decided to enjoy a Bar Snack. The Open Sandwiches were just delicious and served by friendly and helpful Staff.Shall certainly stay in the hotel when the opportunity arises.

I eat lunch at the Manor House from time to time when visiting Oban. It is best to book, especially in Summer, because the bar area is small. On good days it's a lovely spot to sit outside for drinks or coffee. On this occasion (miserable mid-week lunchtime) it was relatively quiet. I met a colleague and we had the soup from the daily menu and the liver and bacon from the standard menu. The soup was billed as "broth" and was more watery than I'd have expected but tasty enough in its way. I'm not sure soup at the Manor House is really good value at £3.45 for a modest dish but the bread is good and generously provided, so no serious complaint. [There is always a fish soup on offer which, if I recall correctly, is always very good.]I really go to the Manor House for either the liver & bacon or the halibut. I've never had either and they've been less than perfect. This was no exception. The liver is pan-fried but I'm not sure just how they cook it to keep it tender and succulent. If you are an offal-eater, this is as good as you'll get. A choice of chips or boiled new potatoes and salad or vegetable complements the main dish and, again, the portions are generous and the quality excellent.Prices represent good value. The Manor House Hotel is a little antiquated and just a tad shabby in a charming sort of way. At lunchtime food is served in the bar and delivered through a hatch by several ladies who are kind, helpful and attentive. Because there is no real bar, the variety of drinks on offer is somewhat limited and there are no beers on tap but a limited selection of products of local mini-breweries. It's very adequate for most at lunchtime and does not at all detract from the quality of the food but you should not expect a 40' bar, 20 beers and 100 malt whiskies!

We booked a birthday meal at the Manor House. The food is always to a high standard but we enjoyed one on the best meals ever. I need a gluten free meal and this was fully catered for - even with separate canapés. My main course was guinea fowl. It was tender and the vegetables and gravy were full of flavour. Desert was delicious. The manager made us extremely welcome too!

Food and restaurant service excellent especially young waitress called Cara. However, the present manager, Gerry (or Jerry) is totally disinterested in providing the level of service for which the Manor House is highly acclaimed. Certainly not service with a smile, very slow and inefficient. Did not enforce 'no mobiles in public areas' either as we sat and listened to someone else's conversation on their mobile in the lounge after dinner - no sight nor sign of 'Gerry'. As an aside it's also a pity there isn't a dress code on Saturday nights - I.e. jackets for gentlemen and no jeans or trainers as it's the only really nice restaurant to go to that many people want to dress up for - there are plenty of other restaurants in Oban where you can dress down!

We were staying in the hotel and had dinner in the restaurant. We ate there five times over two visits to the hotel, so you could say that we gave it a thorough testing! The food in the restaurant is not the usual small town hotel fare. It stands comparison with the best city restaurants. There is an imaginative menu which changes every day. The food is well prepared and presented by excellent staff. And after the meal, you can retire to the lounge for coffee and liqueurs beside the open fire! Not cheap, but then the best never is.

My husband and I selected this esablishment for a big anniversary meal and we were not disappointed. Staff were delightfully helpful, making a special night with small touches like hearts scattered on table. Nothing was too much trouble. Service was very good - just the right level of attention and the ambience had a warmth without being obtrusive. Formal but most certainly not stuffy. Food was excellent - a 5 course fix prix menu with very good portion control. We started with drinks and canapes in the bar, then the meal at window table int he beautiful classic dining room followed by coffee in the lounge. Thank you. We will be back.

We were looking forward to our meal after last years 5 star experience but the meal, although excellent in parts, was moderate in others. My starter of scallops was excellent as was my wife's haggis. The leek and potato soup was almost tasteless. I could taste potato but I am not sure that it had even a passing acquaintance with a leek. The lemon sorbet was outstanding but my seabass was moderate and my wife felt that her chicken was good but everything else on her plate was not. My wife's apple crumble tart was brilliant and my dessert was good. This meal doesn't fit TAs' star system. It was good, better than average, but not very good. A great shame that there wasn't greater consistency.

We had this restaurant recommended to us by our bed and breakfast hosts, "this is where we go for dinner when we want to dine out". They were quite correct. The greeting was friendly, and we had pre-dinner drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the traditional lounge, then we moved to the dining room for an excellent dinner. The slightly formal atmosphere might put some people off, but it is not in the least "stuffy". The food and service were impeccable.Highly recommended.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
