So much about here is really good but a few things let it down. Most of the staff are lovely but there is one lady who is rude and patronising. Has a terrible habit of scowling, being negative and unhelpful and then calls you “hunny”. Service can be slow and food can take a while when busy but everything is cooked to order and delicious when it arrives. Toilets are tiny and wash hand basins difficult to use. On the whole well worth a visit and fingers crossed that one of the lovely friendly staff members serves you.

Myself and my partner went to mannerstons for some food as it had been recommended by some friends. Upon arrival we were seated promptly, however unfortunately the waitress who served us was not very hospitable for someone who works in hospitality. We arrived just before the change from breakfast to lunch so decided to wait the 5 minutes and go for the lunch menu. When the woman took our order she was very short with us both when trying to order from the lunch menu and told us we would need to wait and walked away when my partner tried to order a drink. When she eventually came back after having to flag down another member of staff, as we were left waiting a while, her attitude remained as if we were inconveniencing her. This brought an unpleasant atmosphere to our visit. On the other hand, despite the service the food was delicious, compliments to the chefs.

Went on the way to visit the House of Binns and stopped for some lunch. Shared a Fisherman’s Platter which brilliant in particular the Mackeral and Beetroot mousse. Service and quick and efficient and the staff were helpful despite being busy On the way home we decided to stop again for coffee and some cake which had seen earlier. Despite it being less busy the staff seemed to have switched off a bit and more interested in closing up (despite it being only 3:30) and needed to reminder we were wanting to order. Coffee and cake were excellent.

We have been here many times and always had a lovely breakfast. However we were really disappointed on Saturday, not only was the food very greasy but the quality seemed really bad. The bacon was paper thin and again greasy, so much so that the only thing I ate on my plate was the potato scone, egg & toast. It's about £13 for a breakfast, so not cheap and if I had enjoyed it I would not have minded paying this. Nobody came near us to ask if everything was alright. I will be back but definitely not for a breakfast, maybe a wee scone next time.

Sadly disappointing . Lovely girl on the desk as we left but otherwise customer service to that was robotic and lacked lacked warmth , food was ok but presentation lacking . No check in to see that everything was ok or extras required . Breakfast roll presentation was well below previous standards . Thought it must have been bought over given the changes but seemingly not . Sadly not the experience we’d hoped for and won’t be rushing back .

Popped in for a quick lunch. Nice place, but quite noisy. Disappointed in our choice of food - I had the quiche with deli salad. Although the quiche was very nice with lovely pastry, it was very shallow so only a few bites. The salad was just mixed leaves with a few cherry tomatoes and cucumber. Didn't have time to try any cakes which they seem to be renowned for.

Mannerstons is a lovely place to go for breakfast, or at anytime really. The staff are friendly, the place is clean, and the food is delicious. On my most recent visit I made a complete hash of my order. However, the lovely waitress fixed it for me without any fuss or bother and I have to say that is what good customer service is all about. I wouldn't have made a fuss if the order had not been sorted as it was COMPLETELY MY FAULT. It is service like this, and the good food of course, that makes customers go back again, and again. This is one of our favourites place to go to for breakfast/brunch and we will certainly continue to visit. Also have to say that Mannerstons ice cream is the best ever! Oh, should also say that they have a lovely gift shop and sell some nice food.

I have visited here fairly often. The food is good, surroundings very nice and the staff are friendly but the service at best is erratic and frequently poor. Track and trace is good and tables well spaced. We stopped in for a coffee and sandwich at 16.10 ( it shuts at 17.00). We were shown to our tables and given menus. We then waited for 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Halfway through I attracted the attention of the waitress who waved acknowledgement that she’d seen us. What a shame she didn’t come over…..at all! Eventually another waitress came, the one who’d given us menus. When we asked for a sandwich she said “Oh sorry. The kitchen closes at 15.00 every day”! What a shame she didn’t mention that when she gave us the menus in the first place. By then there were no cakes left and we had to leave. I would like to say that this was unusual but unfortunately not. We have gone to Mannerstons several times in the hope that things would improve, even once mentioning to the manager about the erratic service. At that point we didn’t realise he was the manager and he pretended that he would pass it on !!!It’s a real shame because the food is lovely but we are not the only people who have said about the service. Shame really.

I have been a fairly regular visitor to Mannerstons since it opened and have always enjoyed the experience and food however a friend and I visited last week and I felt very uncomfortable with the lack of social distancing measures in place. The restaurant was full to capacity and the spacing between tables was a bit close for comfort. People arriving were being encouraged to leave their names at the desk and to wait in the shop area which was becoming increasingly busy also. I will wait until the Covid crisis is over before I return.

This place is long overdue a review from us. We have eaten here on a number of occasions over the past year and it is consistently excellent. Staff are friendly, discreet and helpful and the ice cream (made on site) is to die for. It is half cafe/ half shop and sells alcohol and food produce as well as other goods. The only problem you will have is if you go for breakfast, do you stay for lunch? Is the fire on? Then the answer is yes!

This is the second time in a week we have ate in mannerstons. The food is lovely and initial service to take main meals is fine however once the main meals are finished the staff appear to be unaware that we've finished and are waiting to order sweets and coffee. Today we waited 30 minutes while more customers got seated, new orders taken but our plates remained. We eventually got up and left. The management need to get the staff more focused on the customers. The food is good service is poor.

Popped in here for lunch last week. Enjoyed lunch here on a few occasions. My friend and I thought we would see if service had improved any as we do enjoy the food. It was very busy so we had to wait for a table, not much of a problem so didn't mind. Our soups were served fairly quickly which was a good start. However, despite there being six members of staff on hand, no-one seemed interested in clearing away our empty soup bowls and enquiring if we would like tea or coffee. Eventually the owner came over and took our tea and coffee order. The problem with this place is not the quality of the food but the service. If you have all day to sit around and don't need to rush then I would recommend it. Otherwise I would try somewhere else (other good eateries close by) and service a lot better in my opinion. It's a shame as the food is tasty but service is appalling.

I always try my best to be fair when writing reviews. So, the good points were; staff very pleasant and friendly, food/drinks I thought were reasonably priced. The main drawback was it was COLD. I visited on a wintry day when it was snowing. The only source of heat appeared to be a wood burning stove in one corner of the cafe. Now, this might be acceptable in a small, 10 cover cafe, but the venue is really quite big. I heard several other customers having a bit of a moan about the cold temperature also. I think one of the staff said there is apparently underfloor heating but it only comes on at certain times. Anyway, it was a bit ridiculous everyone sitting with their coats and hats on drinking tea. It’s a shame but it’s put me off and I don’t think I’d return to be honest.

I like this place, it's very convenient, the food is OK especially the soup, and the coffee is very good. The staff are mostly pleasant but, yesterday the restaurant was pretty quiet and we asked if we could have a particular table as my partner is disabled and uses a crutch which he likes to keep out of the way. The waitress seemed not to be very pleased and snapped "you would take the one table that hasn't been cleaned"Well, we couldn't see whether the table had been cleared or not, it was NOT the only table that needed wiping and more importantly, as we had a choice, that's where we wanted to sit. I thought things had improved.

After a very poor experience a few months ago, i thought we would try again to see if there were any improvement - there wasn’t! We ordered cream tea for two, but with coffees instead of tea! The scones were ice cold and hard! I had expected lovely warm freshly baked scones! Coffee was ok. It was very busy , yet tables were getting cleared slowly. When I went up to pay the bill, which I thought was going to be the stated price of £8.50, I was told it was an extra £1 because we had coffee instead of tea! I really agree with others who have also commented on their pricing - over the top for what you get! If the scones had been freshly baked and delicious, fine - but they were hard and cold! We definitely won’t be back this time! Disappointed , yet again!!

Despite even enquiring about lite dishes that only require heating up, no attempt was made to even check with kitchen staff and again told 'sorry kitchen is closed'. Really disappointed as we drove long distance to get there, but they seem to be too popular for their own sake, therefore not caring about customers. Have been on a few occasions. The soup are so thick and piping hot sometimes you need to wait till it cools a bit. The sandwiches are very filling and if you ask for extra crispy bacon you get it. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable and the shop is good to.

Will not be back to eat at Mannerston. The staff are absolutely off putting. Training wouldn’t go a miss in this area!! We were given menus and served our main promptly. I have to say it was very tasty. However, we didn’t get asked if we wished a dessert. My friend and I waited 10 minutes, before eventually getting up and not bothering to have one. There were three ladies standing at the counter, chatting and drinking from a cup. One of the females dragged herself away to take our money. To top it all she tried to over charge me. On leaving we decided to buy icecream, which was delicious, but for £3-50 it was not worth the money for the small amount we were served. I found Mannerstons a friendly, well run place to go when it first opened. The two brothers who work there are gentlemen and so is the younger chap. Really guys you should be around to oversee things, show the staff how people ( that pay there wages) should be treated.

Finally made it here for a lunch visit to find it full, with people queuing up to get in - a good start! We went for a wander around the garden centre next door and then came back. Got a table quickly on this second attempt. The menu is not as varied as I had hoped but it's full of good simple food and some interesting flavour combinations. We both opted for sandwiches which were very fresh and accompanied by a generous salad, also very fresh and tasty. Coffee was also good. Would certainly go back again for a nice light lunch. Breakfast menu also sounded great!

We’ve eaten there many times before but today was the first for breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. Our plates were full and everything was delicious. Much of their food is sourced locally which is good. By 11.00am the cafe was full as it’s a very popular place. There’s plenty staff so it’s a quick and efficient service. Well done to the smiley staff.

Have visited here several times and have never been disappointed with either the service or the food. We did have to wait a little while for a table on our latest visit but really wasn't an issue. Usually, there are enough tables available but if you have to wait...it is worth it.

When we arrived it was busy but we were acknowledged that they would be with us in a minute once a table was cleared. That’s all you need, just to know they will be with you ASAP, that’s good to know if they’re busy and under pressure.

We had lunch today 2nd time we’ve visited, I ordered their homemade humous with pitta bread very very bland. I ordered chips as a side between us but they were clearly the last of the batch before new fresh chips were cooked they took so long to replace them that we gave up. Absolutely no attempt to apologise so we paid and left won’t be back.

We went with our daughter and son in law and granddaughter for lunch. The staff were all fantastic and the food quality was top notch, including the home made ice cream. A bonus is the lovely gift and farm shop. Will definitely be back.

We stopped here for a late lunch around 3 pm on a Monday. A large restaurant set in the middle of the countryside beside a garden centre, it was quite busy with separate couch areas where you could have a coffee and baking instead of a meal. We wanted soup as it was a cold day but they had run out, so we opted for burgers as my friends recommended them. Unfortunately they only had 3 beef ones left so we had one chicken and I can say that they lived up to their reputation, delicious home made and very tasty. The staff were lovely and attentive and plenty of people coming and going so obviously popular with locals. A very enjoyable meal and worth visiting again when we are in the area.

Have never been before but found this cafe whilst out on a drive and decided to stop for lunch....very glad we did. We were greeted warmly by a member of staff and shown to a table promptly. The food was lovely and arrived quite quickly after ordering. The coffee was hot and delicious. The tables are a bit close together but as it wasn't too busy when we were in it didn't prove a problem. Had a look around the on site shop after our meal and there was a great selection of goods on offer. Would recommend a visit.

This is a busy cafe and farm shop serving excellent food from breakfast through lunch and beyond with evening events such as beer tasting (not tested) arranged from time to time. We are always made to feel welcome and service and food are both excellent and good value too. Will be going back time and time again.

Excellent service, enjoyable food, good selection. Recommend for coffee or lunch stop. There is an attractively laid out area of gifts, books, teas, coffees, biscuits etc (including gluten free).

Went in for coffee etc. I had my usual roll and sausage and the quality was very good. Not cheap but worth it. Felt a bit crammed in by all the tables but luckily it was not too busy. Service was quick and efficient. We bought bread in the shop and it was fantastic. Only down side was that, since they stress how local things are, why do they serve French butter portions with scone? Surely there is local, or at least Scottish, butter portion available.

Visited here for the first time and although food was good it was very expensive £10 for burger and chips is too expensive . Chips were poor quality and there were more small crispy bits than actual chips . Also space between tables is not good especially the tables with the bench seating where we were it felt like we were dining with the couple sitting next to us as we could hear their conversation . Not a good experience .

Lovely place the food is really good always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, went for lunch on Monday the heat in the restaurant was unbearable and the windows couldn’t be opened because of the wasps. We won’t go back until the cooler weather come back which is a shame. Please install air conditioning or put nets over the windows and doors so they can be opened during the hot weather and keep the wasps out.See you in the cooler weather.

Visited here twice and happy to go again. Such a pleasure not to be blasted by cold AC so common in many restaurants. However, at this time of the year, the open windows allowed a fair number of wasps to fly in. I killed half a dozen at least - apologies to tree-huggers. Food and drink very good, and service also friendly and fairly prompt. Nice to get a decent glass of wine too. Scones nothing great, and coffee average. Parking easy, although the front of the building could to with a bigger Mannerston sign to indicate it is the restaurant.

I had a veggie toastie, a special for the day, and there's plenty of it! Their bread is excellent, large dimensions, and the filling, plus the accompanying salad, was very good indeed - as was the coffee. Prices much as expected, but new spacious comfortable surroundings. We would go again.

After 4 family members completed a charity run we headed to Beancross for lunch. We phoned ahead and booked for 13. 10 adults and 3 children. When we arrived we were impressed by the restaurant. We waited a while to be shown to our table while staff were chatting. Once seated we waited a while to be brought menus that were grubby and had seen better days. It took ages to come and take our drinks orders and even longer to bring them. Glasses were dirty and we requested they were changed. We then waited another 15 mins before our food order was taken. I ordered a sandwich and requested brown bread. I was told they only had white but our waiter would ask the chef. Another long wait until the food arrived. Some of our party had also ordered sandwiches and were served brown bread while I'd requested brown and was given white. When I queried the response was "you can swap'. Not easy when others had started eating. The white bread was stale. The inside of the sandwich, tuna and cucumber hadn't been buttered and the little tuna on it was in the middle leaving nothing around the edge of the sandwich. There were also a few wrong orders which had to be sent back. No one enquired while we were eating if the food was ok. No one came over when we'd finished eating to clear the table and ask if we wanted desserts or more drinks. We even had to chase the bill. The service was awful. A young team of waiting staff who were more interested in chatting than serving customers. The restaurant wasn't very busy so that probably says a lot about the place. We spoke to a waiter when leaving and told him how disappointed we were. He said he'd pass this on. Beancross you need to up your game. Training for staff would be a good starting point. My advice avoid at all costs.

Emma and David are worth visiting this bar for. You need an Emma in every pub and lucky for the orchid they have an Emma. So much fun. Make you feel like your home. If I could give more stars I would for the staff. Reasonable prices to win win
