Good local Chinese restaurants are on the wane so thank the stars for Mandarin Palace. The food is delicious and the portions are very generous indeed. The service is prompt and courteous. There is parking apparently round the back. The toilets are clean but in need of refurbishment. Celebrating 50 years so 15 per cent off (dining only) up to 31 July 2024! Expensive but worth it. We went to celebrate my daughters 18th. The portions are HUGE so if ordering set menu perhaps order for one less person.

Expected a set lunch they don't offer it anymore. Disappointing.

Food was great , service a little bit below par from one staff. In general its good One issue a bolw of rice for 3persons was outrageous at £13.50. Other food items was reasonable. Need to London Prices. For 3 person an adverage of £20 per head.

Really loved our first visit, all the traditional antiques is such a rare find in UK so we find it rather spacial, it was really nice to look around and soak in the culture from the emperor days whilst enjoying our dim sum galore, which was all very very good😊 we will definatley be back🌟

One of the few old remaining High Street Chinese restaurants left in this part of London .. you can depend on getting a good variety of dishes, all tasty and well cooked. The decor is good and so is the service.

Relatively good Chinese food in Ilford, and suspect it would be the best around! Nice decor and always receive good service (but my grandparents are friends with the owners).

Yummy Dim Sums. The place was packed, but we didn't wait too long for food to come. The service was quite good, I have to say. Only one little disappointment about the egg tarts. Looks need to stay in the oven a bit longer. The chicken feet are very fresh and delicious. I like the barbecued pork crisps and shrimp rice rolls. The Yangzhi Manlu is so delicious.

The only downside on the food is that if you order a lot, it all comes out at a similar time. So food can get cold. Tasty dim sum overall.

Authentic Cantonese food. Highly recommend.

Excellent food, certainly quite different to Cantonese cuisine though there is some overlap. The food is cooked to a high standard with balanced flavours. Slightly pricey but still worth it.

Unfortunately didn't enjoy my experience at this restaurant, although the food is of good quality it was insanely overpriced. My family and I visited for chinese new year and were extremely disappointed. The set menu was £68, we were told we had to have the set menu there was no other option (we were only 6 people not a huge group) to then see many tables of other people ordering from the a la carte menu which we really would have preferred. When asked they just told us most people were having set menu which wasn't even true... The food did not reflect the high price, there was only 1 duck leg to share between 3 people for pancakes... the lobster was of good quality but the rest of the meal was made up of average dishes that were yummy but nothing special. £68 is ludicrous for this, I have had better set menus in central London at higher end establishments for less money. My mum is a vegetarian so some vegetarian options were provided for her, although some of them were nice like the Aubergine and Tofu dishes... 2 courses of the set menu were exactly the same; the faux duck and the faux salt and pepper chicken were literally exactly the same dish with exactly the same ingredients. Who wants to pay for a set menu and have 2 courses exactly the same? I said to the staff this wasn't acceptable and they claimed it was different because it had salt and pepper?!?! On top of all of this we asked for a pot of jasmine tea for 4 people, the price of this was not on the menu but the table was set with tea cups and in a majority of chinese restaurants they usually offer this for free so I thought it wouldn't be that much money. When the bill came they had attempted to charge us £18.50 for one pot of jasmine tea?! I queried it and he told us we had had 2 pots and they charge per person not for the pot. I told him we had ordered and received 1 pot for 4 people and only 4 people drank the tea he then changed it to £10.50. £10.50 for a pot of jasmine tea is crazy!!! I wouldn't come back to this establishment and there are much nicer places in Gants Hill to eat that aren't trying to money grab (eg. Royale spicy Dosa which is just across the road)

Never going back! Poor customer service and rude staff. Rushed us to order, starter only duck pancakes took 25minutes. We waited over an hour, each time i asked got ignored, moaned at by muttering annoyance sounds. We eventually got upto leave and were told its valentines get over it, and got told to go away. But they kept accepting more customers even though they had lack of staff.

Celebrated our Mums 82nd birthday here today ,the food and service were excellent. A big thankyou to all the staff who made the meal special and were so kind and patient with the grandchildren.

Went to this restaurant for the 1st time on Christmas Eve. It was very busy at first with a very large party of Chinese customers (a good sign!!). Service was OK- a little variable- took a while to get drinks and then one was forgotten but then sorted when we asked. We chose one of the set menus which gave us a chance to try a range of dishes. Generally really good and did include a dessert - toffee banana with fresh fruit and ice cream - yum!! Would definitely go back and use as a takeaway/delivery option.

I have been visiting this restaraunt with my family for yours. Without a doubt the best food- never fails to impress. Have enjoyed every experience, the staff are attentive and efficient, the manager always greets us and the food is exceptional- have not had a dish i would not recommend !! Worth every penny!

One of the best dim sums in london. They were lovely staff members. It was raining and they kindly let us stay inside with our child. We met regular customers who loved the place and have been going for 4 years. The decoration was authentic Chinese decoration. Would definitely recommend for people who love dim sum and do not want to go central. The parking is a little harder to find but there are limited spots near the restaurant.

Excellent dim sum menu in; selection, price and quality. We have not found anything better this far east of China Town and are so grateful for this gem. The hosts are always friendly and the kids really enjoy the food too because it is simply delicious 😋. My favourites include the scallop dumplings, Turnip cakes, spicy squid, chicken dumplings in chilli oil, and the char sui buns.

We almost always go to The Mandarin Palace at lunchtime for the dim sum. It never disappoints. There’s a good range of dim sum to choose from and everything is authentic. The service is friendly and it’s pretty inexpensive for a restaurant of this quality. It’s a real gem, worth travelling to get to.

I've visited this restaurant on several occasions and I must say that the quality of their food has always been remarkable. The standout items are definitely their seafood and dim sum dishes, which are consistently fresh and expertly cooked. I have never been let down by this restaurant. Their menu offers a wide range of dishes from various regions in China, including a great selection of Hong Kong specialties.

Absolutely shocking service had to wait 25mins for prawn crackers we was only people in there potions was terribly small 6 drinks 4 starters and 5 mains totals £280 never again £25 service charge avoid at all costs get a takeway and stay at home

The food is delicious: generous portions, very fresh, and nice texture and flavours. The sweet and sour tofu was excellent with a crispy outer and lots of crunchy vegetables. Their vegetarian menu selection is good which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant.

Had dinner with my family. The food was delicious and the service was great.

We just walked in for lunch and we were sat in a lovely corner table. The waitress was lovely and very attentive. We ordered some mixed dumplings to start, it was delicious. Followed by sweet and sour hong kong style chicken with rice and my husband had vermicelli with beef. The food was tasty and service was quick. I look forward to going back at dinner time.

ALERT!!!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! The staff were cold and not interested. Took ages for us to get the main course and it came cold. The manager checked with every table but us and she even snatched my husband’s card off his hand when paying. I don’t know why I paid service charge for this kind of terrible service. There are so much more to complain about but in all, WE WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!

Food was good. Waiters very Moody Restaurant insists on 10% service charge and Alan the waiter claims is not discretionary!! Why not increase the price ? Customer should have the choice of a tip not restaurant. He claimed that they have always done this! Is it passed to staff or goes to owners coffers ? For this reason will not go back but watch out!! Restaurants around don’t do this

Have recently enjoyed some lovely lunches at the Mandarin Palace and cannot fault the service, the staff nor the tasty food. There were other diners and we were glad to be socially distanced from each other. I don't think standards have slipped since I first ate here in 2006, so can definitely recommend.

Authentic Hong Kong roast Duck and other delicious dishes, all served hot to the table. Lovely efficient staffs, especially Jenny, who went out of her way for an unusual request. Will be back....definitely.

Frozen dumplings and rushed service This place is gone down hill for sure

Mandarin Palace is expensive but it's worth paying extra for great quality. Due to the price, I've only come here very occasionally for special occasions over the years, and have generally been very impressed with the quality. However, recently, we ordered take away due to COVID for my wedding anniversary for a family of four to eat at home, and I also ordered at the same time a second batch with different food selections to drop off at my mother's for her to share with an aunt. Both we and they were very disappointed. The food tasted bland across the board, and my mother reported that the chicken was hard / tough. I don't come here often enough to know if this represents a long-term decline in standards, or if this was a one-off, where perhaps a key kitchen staff member was unwell and temporarily replaced in e.g. a COVID emergency with an inexperienced "locum" chef brought in to plug the gap. I do note however that overall there are many poor ratings on this site for this restaurant, with some others also feeling standards might have declined. I really don't like posting negative reviews but am forcing myself to do so not out of any anger or annoyance (happy to write off the experience as bad luck) but in the hope that the management will take a good long hard look at their standards and do what's necessary to salvage the reputation of this restaurant and make sure it survives and thrives long into the future, for their benefit and ours. Apologies to the staff at the restaurant as I appreciate you all work hard and do your best.

Food is really good especially the great selection of dim sum. Portion sizes are however on the smaller side considering the price. The young female waitress was very friendly but all other staff were miserable and not welcoming at all. They were in a rush to get us out by 9 even though I had called to find out the closing time beforehand.

Disgusting service, greasy food! Never again! They put on a 10% service charge and when I asked for it to be removed I was told that they showed us to our seats and put a heater on as it was freezing in there what more do we want. They were rude and arrogant, we would NEVER go back again even if it was free!!

Good dim sum but prices are too similar to a China Town prices

A very authentic Chinese restaurant the Decor and ambiance was good for the most part, staff were very attentive and allowed us to swap dishes on a set menu. However we felt that the portions were very stricken. (No prawn crackers) We ordered a mixed plate to which only a couple of each were served leaving up ordering some more, however the other courses arrived and we were served plenty. The one main reason why we would not return are the toilets. My Husband visited the men’s and said that they were absolutely disgusting with urine on the toilet seats and over flowing urinals. Thankfully he paid a visit at the end of our visit, however, this really did let the restaurant down as for the most part this was a good evening.

The dim sum overall are good standard. Only few things need to improve, such as the siu mai doesn't look attractive, specially the colour seems not fresh looking, but the taste nice! The chicken feet favour bit sweet, the star anise favour too strong. The salty egg bun not running, just like a custard bun. The chicken and chinese sausage rice not cook with a pot and came with a bowl only, the mushroom was bitter, and taste strange! The waiter refunded it. Also they forgot our ordered of the lotus sticky rice, so don't know about what the taste like and didn't know they charge or not as the bill not really clear and hard to check. Overall, the food is delicious. We will go again, hope they'll improve 😜. And the services was good too👍

Great local Chinese restaurant serving authentic Cantonese cuisine. Good variety of high quality dim sum dishes for that dumpling fix! The buns are excellent and served warm for maximum pillowy goodness. Dinner is also a treat. Catering to the “western Chinese” palate as well as traditional Chinese dishes from different regions. Their Cantonese dishes are stand out and the Chinese bbq here is a must try! I think they even supply supermarkets and other restaurants which don’t have the expertise to execute this. Omg the Peking duck 🤤 Another local gem literally at the exit of Gants Hill station and a favourite with locals (half their customers are Chinese which says it all). Highly recommended!

I heard really good things about this place and was disappointed with the service Manager has an attitude Made an error on my food, ordered crab but got seafood and didn't want to change it, had to pay for another meal I refused to pay service charge as I wasn't satisfied with the service, but manger goes I have to pay and I'm the only who complained about my food in the whole restaurant. Will not visit this place again.

I ordered food from here because of my past experience. Wish I had never done this again. My food was cold and no sauce provided. This place is a joke and there prices are ridiculous. Don’t mind paying if the food is nice but they are preying on your previous experience and then giving horrible food

Mandarin used to be the place to go for Chinese food in the area. The atmosphere was nice, the food was tasty and prices were reasonable. Alas when I visited, the food was below par, nothing to shout about, and prices were excessive eg £3.50pp a small bowl of rice, can you believe it? Won't be taking my business there again, rather hop on the train and go to Chinatown

Good dim sum but staff especially indifferent and unresponsive

Excellent covid19 precautions in l place. On arrival they check your temperature and ask you to use hand sanitiser. They also take your details for track and trace. A number of restaurants are not inforcing staff to wear PPE but here all the staff were wearing masks and gloves. The setting is very nice. Food and service was excellent. Good range of vegetarian options. Tables were appropriately spaced out. I could not fault them.

I've been going here for years for their great authentic dim sums and Peking duck. Great service and appreciate it being a local business!

Delicious food and a nice ambiance. Was going to take one star off because they hadn't noticed one dish was missing, but they were quick to check and take it off the bill. Staff were excellent and quick to respond.

I live a few minutes walk from the Mandarin Palace and the food is always good. The set business lunch we had was delicious. Available weekday lunchtimes only, three courses including dim sum very reasonably priced and a loyalty card system is available. When cars has been stamped after several visits you get a free lunch. Ordering from the full menu is a bit more expensive but good quality. Looking forward to going again soon.

Nice place with scrumptious dishes and tasty drinks

This was my 3rd visit. Had a good table, the waitress was nice. However, the beef soup was tasteless, chicken and prawn steamed dumplings no great and biggest disappointment was the duck in plum sauce which was a bit undercooked and with a lot of fat. The food was not piping hot and did not enjoyed at all. It was surprising as normally love this place

We called in around 8pm to this Chinese restaurant on our way home from a matinee show up in London. We were greeted very pleasantly and shown directly to a table. Almost immediately some tasty small snacks were served and we ordered Tiger Beers to go with them. The menu is quite lengthy so for ease Sue and I chose the 'Jade' set meal for two a £25 per head. This turned out to be a very good choice - a selection of rice, ribs, king prawns and satay chicken was followed by shredded duck and then a selection of spicy Chicken and Beef in oyster sauce. The desert is listed on this set menu as either Fruit salad or toffee banana with ice cream and we were expecting to have to choose. But, interestingly the desert is then served as a whole, set out a together on a large plate. Consequently we were able to mix and match to create our own choices. A novel end to the meal ! All together a very fine meal - tasty and well presented.

We visited this lovely restaurant today on a whim, the place was quite busy with many Chinese and Asian people dining here. Which I find to be a very good sign. The food was delicious, the portions big enough for two and the service impeccable. The staff were friendly and efficient. The owner has been there for 40 years. Serving up the best Chinese food I’ve had in a long time, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It is quite expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Came on Saturday service was slow but they were very busy food was okay but not as good as it always has been . Great Menu and attractive restaurant. Could do with more staff at the weekend

Been coming here recently for dim sum and have been very impressed. The food is very fresh and tasty. Love the authentic Chinese dishes like cheong fun, dumplings, buns, sticky rice and chicken feet. Great that there's free parking for customers though you need to remember to ask them for a pass. There is one waiter who is a bit abrupt but on the whole customer service is good.

I went with my family for a birthday dim sum feast, and the food and service was perfect! Our waitress was so friendly, we'll definitely be back again!

The best Chinese restaurant with awesome food courses .

My daughter booked a table for 5.30pm a Mother’s Day treat for me, was so looking forward to some Dim Dum, got to restaurant on time, we were kept waiting for coming up to almost 10 mins with not even an acknowledgement from staff, yes it was busy and they walked past us on numerous occasions, but it was like we were invisible to them, so gutted and upset, now we ordering a takeaway as too late to get a table anywhere else :o(

Visited last week, been here at least half a dozen times over the last 10 years and the dim sum is always amazing, much better than what you will find in China Town or other restaurants. The prices are very affordable too. The bill came to £40 for three people including tea and we were beyond full! The staff is very attentive, especially the owner, a lovely lady who makes time to speak to all the diners and engage in banter. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, will be back again soon.

Guys don’t order or eat in this place. The food is disgusting we actually found a hair in our meal and They charged us for that dish too. The owner or manager didn’t even say sorry. We left the food and as soon we left the place I vomited and felt really sick. Never Again

good dim sum place in East London

Beautiful decor, friendly staff, traditional Chinese dim sum served. Located seconds away from Gants Hills tube station - London underground central line. Great alternative if you don't want to head to central London.

Been coming here for over 20 years and never been disappointed with the huge selection of fresh and succulent dimsum and the vibrant dinner dishes! The shanghai dimsum, turnip puff pastries, and the prawn and chive dimsums are personal favourites and all the dimsum are just the right size - not too small. The rest of the menu is just as delicious, the wasabi king prawns is unusual but works SO well, and the crispy shredded beef with spicy Singapore noodles always hits the spot! The owners are extremely pleasant and welcoming, and the staff is consistently efficient. This restaurant's quality has been perfect for years and I would recommend it for a variety of occasions from a romantic meal for two, to a large family dimsum catch up!

Great food all the time, cocktails are so good!!! So many choice on the menu it's great, busy location so hard to find free parking obviously being in London.

We arrived at 7 and were there til almost 11, lovely set menu priced at £45. Lots of food, substantially tasty. They were very busy so not the best organised not remembered which dishes we'd had or not, but we didn't mind as they were very polite and patient. They were serving fresh dishes on cold serving plates which was an issue for me and not sure they understood that this wasn't helpful as they were making all of the food cold, but I sent back the cold food. Entertainment was very good and lengthy. We were at the front, so it was extremely loud - drums were deafening. In hindsight, I would asked to be sat further back. I cannot complain as it was lovely and the staff are familiar to us so we feel like we know them personally. All in all a great time had, and I would definitely consider for future Chinese New Year.

My stepson took my partner and I here on Saturday for my partners birthday. We were seated quickly but were surprised to see all the tables already laid with dishes of nuts, pickled cabbage and sauces - god knows how long these had been laid out, although throughout the evening we noted that every table that was re-layed upon someone leaving was laid in this manner. Both very lazy service and unhygenic ! and our drinks order taken 1 coke and 1 bottle of still water. We asked for ice and lemon and were given the butt ends of a lemon on a saucer and the waitress proceeded to add ice from a bowl to our glasses by using my partners chopsticks. She actually held them by the ends that he would use to eat with and tried picking up the ice with the handle - as you can imagine most of it ended up on the table and was an extremely unhygenic and rude practise. We ordered our food which arrived intermittantly 1 dish not arriving at all. The food was bland and bog standard, the salad on the plate of duck was so dry it looked like it had been prepared 12 hours earlier, an absolute disgrace given the supposed reputation of this establishment. After we had almost finished and we realised one of our dishes had not arrived we called the waiter over to ask him to remove it from our bill. He informed us that he would just check with the kitchen as he believed it was just being cooked to which my partner told him we did not want it as we had just finished our meal. The waiter went off to the kitchen and returned to our table and stood looking at all our empty dishes informing us that chef had sent the dish out of the kitchen and we guessed it had been given to another table in error. Rather than apologising the waiter continued to check our table with a very accusatory look on his face as though the dish may be hidden or we had eaten it as though we were lying ! It was a shocking meal with appalling customer service, we were at no point asked if we were enjoying our food or if we required anything else. We would never frequent this restaurant again and will most definately not recommend it, in fact we would deter anyone going if they asked our opinion of it.

Fabulous fabulous, will definitely be going again.... The food was extremely tasty and fresh, lovely cocktails and the service was fabulous, The prices are reasonable too. Good ambuiance, and friendly staff. 👍🏾 Well worth a nice evening out.

Resorted to take away after a long days work and was thoroughly disappointed. Not only was the man on the phone extremely rude, rushing through the order and being distracted by someone else his side I could hear, he got it wrong 3 times and was getting aggressive as if it was my fault. Finally got it right but the order was very late, and on a weekday this isn't a peak time, it was also cold when it arrived (I'm only a 2minutes drive so NO excuse there). Extortionate prices for absolute rubbish and crap service. Had been warned off this place as a local but thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Steer clear plenty of other nice places in the area!

Went to the Mandarin Palace last Saturday night for a friend's birthday and was bitterly disappointed. They had previously been and had always had a good meal with good service. On this occasion, the service was very hit and miss, the food didn't all come up at the same time, so we had to wait until our friends food arrived and had to ask again where there's was, and items were missed off the order. We had a number of different waiters, as we sat down and ordered water there was an argument with the waiter when we asked for a jug of water and he bought bottled still water. The food was served without servers which is unhygienic how were we supposed to serve the food!?, so we had to ask for serving spoons, and to top it all it was very expensive. Would definitely not go back again, very disappointed,

As a regular diner of good food in a wide variety of restaurants and all cuisines, this establishment must rank as one of the worst places I have ever eaten. I will not waste my valuable time on giving reasons why but I strongly urge you to think twice before eating here. I cannot believe it is still in business, bloody awful.
