We were greeted with warmth even though we didn't have a reservation. The waiters were very professional, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and the area. They all had a lighthearted and friendly jocular manner. The venue was very comfortable and clean with great decor, with pictures depicting the owners family in Italy. The food and wine was delicious and presented well. The service was prompt and unobtrusive. We were only in Edinburgh for a long weekend, but ate there twice and had a great experience both times. Would highly recommend.

What a find. This place was so good we ate here twice! On the Saturday we had pre-booked dinner in the upstairs dining area. We were not disappointed; My pasta dish was tasty and my wife's chicken was also good. We returned on Sunday evening without a booking and was surprised to find it very busy! They squeezed us in the downstairs restaurant. We went for the sharing deal of half pasta/half pizza. All great. Nice Italian staff and well placed for the Playhouse theatre.

On Friday night last we had the most enjoyable evening in this wonderful restaurant. It was about much more than just the food, which was impeccable. Add in the location, the atmosphere, the decor and the amazing staff, efficient, friendly and great fun. The mussels Pomodoro were some of the best we've ever tried and their pasta dishes,(including one Gluten free), were superb.....beautiful flavours and generous portions. Edinburgh folks are so lucky to have a top class Italian like this on their doorstep. Do not miss out on this winner.

Not quite 4 for the food 3.8 /5 Lovely intimate Italian restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the mussels, felt the portion was a little small for the price. Had lovely fresh cherry tomatoes. Subtle tomato and herb flavour, lacked some seasoning. Found the same with the seafood tagliatelle, lacked some seasoning to bring out the flavours of the seafood. Good variety of seafood in the dish . But found the portion was a bit small compared to my partner who had the same dish.I like some spice in my food, the spicy olive oil that was provided was weak. Overall an ok Italian, the service was the out standing, and nothing seemed too much trouble for them . They accept both card and card. Service charge was not automatically added. I agree with previous reviewer who doesn’t get why this place gets 4.5 rating. It is fine—a basic tourist Italian restaurant—but it is nothing great. The scallops were tough, the meatballs were tough. But the atmosphere was pleasant and it provided what we needed after a day of walking 7 miles throughout the city—pasta and wine—and it was just across the street.

We visit Mennato and Floriana's restaurant every time we are in Edinburgh. Hassan and Giovani always look after us and Mennato and Floriana look after the cooking. Just a brilliant restaurant. Can't wait to be back there, which will be this coming October and again in December 2024. Bravo Zulu to all Mamma Roma management and staff.
