Solo Brazilian in Kerswell went to Honiton for lunch and stumbled into Mamma Mia’s. My goodness what a spot!! Delicious!! Had the beef with fried eggs and asked for rice instead of chips. A classic staple in Brazil. Then for desert had a lovely coffee mousse. 10/10! Very well priced. The couple that runs the restaurant is very friendly and personable. Will be coming back for more!

Visited for a birthday meal and we were so impressed by the friendly and efficient service. Our meals were excellent with big portions which were excellent value for money. I couldn't finish my meal and was given a 'doggie bag' without having to ask. Drinks were also sensibly priced. Thoroughly recommend and hope they are as successful as they deserve to be

Popped in on the way to Torquay for lunch. Had the presto chicken. Amazing Portuguese bread roll, beautifully marinated chicken and slightly spicy fries. Had it with a Portuguese pineapple drink. It was amazing and very well priced. The house spicy sauce was a nice touch and really tasted truly Portuguese. The service was great and we were sure they were all related. Brilliant family run bistro.

Delicious dinner with friends while visiting the area. The Father and son team were bot helpful and pleasant hosts. The chicken was extremely tasty and moist with its special marinade and they give you the piri sauce to add if you wish. The homemade desserts were delicious. All the drinks were a good price and the house wine starts at £15. They do a daytime offer of coffee and a nata for £4. We would highly recommend this little cafe/bistro. They deserve to be successful in offering something unique with their Portuguese menu. Well worth a visit!

Really good and value for money, we went in with our two children and were made to feel most welcome, all of the staff were fantastic, but genuinely fantastic, not fake like in some places. The food was amazing, the kids just had pizzas which were obviously hand made and I don't think they touched the sides when they were eaten! The Prego on a plate was amazing and yet a family meal for four, including drinks and two desserts was just over £50, an absolute bargain. This place is a real hidden gem and I already can't wait to go back for another meal.

Date night for my wife and me. Very friendly service. Lovely food, full of flavour. I had the chicken wings to start and my wife had the chicken samosas, both dishes full of flavour. Mains, enchiladas and fish combo of giant prawns and half a cod, both dishes were lovely. Followed by custard tarts, they had sold out but made some more for us, came out really warm but we couldn’t wait for them to cool down, absolutely gorgeous. 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 custard tarts, 2 coffees, large wine, bottle of beer, bottle of red wine and 2 brandies, all for £75, really good value for money. We will be back, for certain.

Fabulous birthday meal. A group of us went to celebrate my birthday and had a wonderful time. The bistro is beautifully decorated, there was a birthday balloon, and I had pre-ordered a birthday cake. The food was delicious, the service excellent, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. A wonderful time has had by all. Thank you.

Amazing home cooked food. This restaurant is all about flavour and the welcoming hosts! Try the bock beer or one of their excellent selection of wines. We’ve eaten here several times and they cater for both spicy food lovers or those that like it a little more simple! Highly recommend the Prego beef or mixed beef platter. For starters try the Durky Chicken Wings. But leave room for the homemade desserts - Amazing! This is food cooked with love, from a lovely, welcoming family . For fantastic food, welcoming hosts and a meal that won’t break the bank! Look no further than Mama Mia on Honiton High Street!

Had a great value for money birthday celebration at Mama Mia on Friday night. Mama is in charge of the kitchen and she is a great cook. She baked me a chocolate Guinness birthday cake which was delicious as were the fish and chips and chicken strips with chilli sauce. Her homemade samosas were very tasty. Worth a visit.

Fantastic food and lovely friendly staff in this family owned restaurant. I had the 'Prego on Plate' (marinated beef) and it was so delicious. My boyfriend and Mum both had the Enchiladas, and both said they were really good. The pastel de nata were so popular that when a customer came in to buy six to take away, customers sitting in the restaurant feared they would run out and so started reserving them for pudding whilst they were still eating their main course! Highly recommend and we will be back!

I like to find something different when eating out when away or on holiday and this Portuguese restaurant fitted the bill perfectly. After ordering, I was offered a traditional Portuguese soup on the house which was very tasty. I then had the Chicken Livers as a starter and then the Beef Prego which I would swerve on another visit and go for one of the many other tasty looking options. I fancied a Pastel de Nata for dessert, they were out but the waiter offered to bake a fresh one for me, only 10 mins wait! The Amber beer, brewed in Madiera, was strong and full of flavour.

Fabulous, family run Portuguese restaurant. Home made dishes using fresh ingredients. On a dark November evening, it was a pleasant surprise to step into a welcoming warm, bright, clean restaurant with fresh flowers on the tables. We enjoyed a complimentary Portuguese cabbage soup to warm us up. The portions are generous and prices are reasonable. We had the Piri Piri Chicken and the fish and chips, both freshly cooked and delicious. The service was outstanding.

Been a while since I had authentic Portuguese food and I was pleasantly surprised by my experience of Mamma Mia's. The Peri peri chicken livers were exceptional, not too hot, but full of flavour. Being an ex pat South African, I was delighted to find they too were from my part of the world. Such friendly folk, who deserve every success with their restaurant. I shall soon be back with friends, to try more of their great choice of food.

Fare typical of many small café's I have visited along the Algarve. Although understandably lacking the variety of fish dishes you would expect there a good choice of mains and choice of five pre-potted sweets - again typical of what would be served by a similar establishment in Portugal. Finally to round off the illusion they serve Sagres beer although I am more used to drink it under a hot sun than with rain lashing against the windows. Lastly prices very reasonable. Two courses, a drink and coffee for £18.

When we first looked at the menu of Mamma Mia we weren't sure - there was a limited selection of main courses and most seemed to come with chips. It seemed to be more of a cafe than a restaurant. But seeing the picture of the fried prawns on the website, we decided to give it a try. And we're glad we did. It's nicely decorated inside and everyone is very friendly. I had the chicken livers (mild) as a starter which was delicious. If they did a slightly larger version it would make a great main course, with a couple of suitable side dishes. I haven't had piri piri chicken for years so it was nice to try it again. The 1/2 portion I had was nice, moist and spicy. I had some fries and a bowl of coleslaw with it - probably a bit too much, as my starter was pretty big. My wife had the fried prawns - 6 huge, whole prawns with chips and a salad. Couldn't finish the chips but made sure that she finished all of the prawns, which were apparently delicious! They're messy, though. Make sure that you have a large finger bowl and plenty of tissues. They have a selection of Portuguese wines and beers. Not knowing much about Portuguese wine, we asked for their suggestion for a dry white wine and the Dom Campos vinho branco was very good. They haven't been going long and there are a few things which could possibly be improved. A drinks menu would be nice - I like to know how much the wine is going to cost before ordering it - and we were not asked if we would like a dessert (not that we could have fitted one in anyway). A specials board would be nice, for a bit of variety. But these are minor points, especially with a new business. Mamma Mia serves very nice food at a good price in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. There are very few places in Honiton where you can get a reasonably priced meal in the evening, so I hope that Mamma Mia is a success. We'll definitely be back.

We tried this place for the first time today, arrived about midday, not many already there. We chose a table and were politely served by the guy in the picture shown on tripadvisor. My wife had the Hawaiian pizza, a large one with topping up to the edge of the thin base, I had the Portuguese fish with fries, two fillets! we shared a Portuguese salad and a pot of tea. The flavour really did taste like we were on holiday, I think it was because of the way it was seasoned. A few more people came in including one person for take away, he had obviously been before. I had to eat two slices of my wife’s pizza as it was more than she could manage. Our teapot was topped up with hot water on request and we left with satisfied appetites after paying a very fair price for what we had consumed. I will be back next month, with my brothers for a boys night when we will sample the Portuguese wines and maybe have a desert as well. So ,well done Mamma Mia for offering something not available elsewhere in the town.
